Dialog box size when saving a postscript file CS5 is huge.

When i save a postscript file, the dialog box that allows me no navigate to the place I wish to save my file is huge. About 10 inches wide and 3 inches high.
I have tried to resize this box, expecting that the last used dimensions would be remembered the next time I entered this box but I get the same huge overly wide and not deep enough box.
I hate resizing this box so I can see my sidebar. This never happened in CS3. CS3 honored the box as I sized it every time I saved.
What is wrong with CS5?
Where do I change this behavior.

Replacing preferences did not help. System updates did not resolve this behavior.
The other behavior I hate is when I open a document the application window enlarges to the maximum area on my monitor. The application window occupies the left edge to the dock on the right, just below the menu bar at top to the very bottom edge of the monitor.
Most other applications remember what the last window size of a document was when I saved and closed it.
What I end up doing EVERY TIME I OPEN A FILE is shortening the window on the right and bottom so I do not have my tool windows covering my document. I like Static tools, not auto hide.
As long as I am griping I'd like to know how to turn off the auto resize of the document view when I enlarge or reduce my window. I want the document to remain a constant size UNTIL I DECIDE to resize it.

  • Illustrator CS5 - Cannot make custom size when "printing" a PostScript file

    Hi all,
I've recently picked up Illustrator CS5, and while this year's model sure is lovely, I'm having an issue when I save a file (or print) as a PostScript file. My aim is to convert the file to a PDF using Distiller and in the Print dialogue box, the PPD field in past versions says something along the lines of Adobe PDF 8.0. In CS5, I do not have the option to select that from the PPD drop down menu (Nor can I find the file to add to the list). Additionally, I can't make a 'custom sized pdf,' only preset paper sizes. I've had to resort to opening my files in CS3 to convert them to PostScript files. I forsee this becoming a problem once I start diving into some of Illustrator CS5's new features.
I get the feeling the program didn't install with an Adobe PDF plug-in and I can't seem to find a substitute online that isn't from 1999 (!). Is there a way to get that plug-in file that my copy of CS3 is using into my CS5?
I'm on a Mac by the way, version 10.6.

    I feel your frustration!
I ran all updates and it did nothing because I was still on an older version of Acrobat. Once I installed Acrobat 9, restarted illustrator, I had all of the PDF options avaliable to me found in the link that fuzzydisco design provided me:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
Having Acrobat 9 seemed to be the essential missing component to me. If you do have Acrobat 9 already, and its not working, then thats a problem I don't know how to fix unfortunately!

  • When saving my illustrator file to a pdf it doesnt show all the artwork ie boxes are hidden in the pdf or only showing part of them. How can I fix this?

when saving my illustrator file to a pdf it doesnt show all the artwork ie boxes are hidden in the pdf or only showing part of them. Even some text is hidden. I have flattened the artwork so everything is in one layer. How can I fix this?

    Hi John
I have indicated on the attached jpeg where the problem is, basically a line of text is missing at the top and part of the feeding diagram is missing. I created the artwork in different layer and then flattened. All text has been converted to outlines, however the areas being affected have no transparency, I have used solid fills or no fills. I get the same result when I export the file as a jpeg. Hope you can help.

  • Find Font dialog box appears when opening files

This didn't used to happen, but now whenever I open an Illustrator file, the "Find Font" dialog opens as though the fonts I'm using aren't found. Not sure what it wants me to do because no matter what I try nothing resolves. I simply click the "Done" button and go about my business. And there are no problems. Why is this happening? and why now? My fonts are always loaded before I open the file, the file looks and handles just fine.
    Mac OS 10.5.5
    CS3 Illustrator 13.0.2
    Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7
    Thanks

I realise this is an old thread but recently experienced this problem and found a solution that worked for me.
    MacBook Pro
    OS X 10.8.2
    Illustrator CS6
FYI, my case is slightly different from the OP's: Illustrator was exhibiting this behaviour with only one of my files so I guessed that the problem might be with that specific file. The Find Font dialog box would appear every time the file was opened, even though it showed that all the necessary fonts were present. I didn't have admin rights for that machine and couldn't delete any preference files. So, I tried creating a new .ai file, copying everything over and saving it with a new name. No more dialog box after that.
    Hope this helps.

  • Open and Save dialog box size?

How can I set a larger dialog box size for opening and saving files within any application? It seems as if they always appear with an 800 x 600 size witch is very small when you you have a large, high resolution screen. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For a larger Open & Save just drag the lower right hand corner of the window.
To expand the view click on the large blue triangle.

  • Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.

Like the title says Indesign CS4 "forgets" file name when saving as Postcript file.
    Example:
I open up indesign CS4 and open up a file called "test5". Then I go to the print menu and save it as a postscript file. Once the save as dialog box comes up it wont say "test5" but it uses whatever file name I used last time I created a PDF.
I want indesign to recognize that when I create a postscript file that I want it to be named the same way as my file that is open at that moment. Changing the file name every time is not bad when they are called "test5" etc but here at this company we use super long file names and it's a pain to change it every time.
Funny thing: Some machines here do it the way in the example but other machines will do it the correct way by using the same name in the save as box.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? If something is not clear just ask!

How about this - it's a workaround, I can't change ID or your system.
I'm big on EXACT filenames also, case and space sensative. Do a "Save As" before printing - the file name should be correct and highlighted, ctrl+c copy, escape/cancel the Save As. Paste in the filename during the Save as Postscript File.

  • Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?

My work involves preparing images for printing lightboxes and window installations.  My clients require to pre-approve the photos before printing.
I usually save my files as psd but since the files are very large in this format I usually save another copy as a jpg file that has a much smaller file size.  This makes it possible for me to add these to a presentation and and send them to my client.
Is it possible when saving the psd file to have an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?  Or do I still have to do this manually?

If you save the document manually as a PSD file in Phtoshop not from within an Action, Script, Plugin or Droplette.  You may be able to write a Photoshop that would do as save as Jpeg,  And you should be able trigger its execution by setting up a Script Save event using the Script event manager.  When You do a manual save  the script should be triggered.  I wrote may be able to for I have never tried to write that script or set up a Script Manager Save event.  I have only use open events.

  • CS6 Photoshop: One newly-created PSD filewon't print because the print dialog box won't appear altho the file properties appear to be the same as other files that do print.

CS6 Photoshop: One newly-created PSD file won't print because the print dialog box won't appear after selecting File > Print.  Then "Print" becomes grayed out. The file properties such as permissions, are the same as other PSD files that do print.  This file also cannot be converted to Adobe PDF, which is not offered as choice under "Save as", whereas other can be.  I've exited, reopened Photoshop, restarted computer, checked out other CS6 PSD files which do print, nothing changes.  The 52 MB file has been flattened. OS is Windows 7.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like the printer driver is having some problems.
Try holding the space bar down when you select Print (which makes the print dialog NOT load previously used settings).

  • JRE 1.6. 0_01 is giving issues in message dialog box size

    Hi There,
I am displaying message dialog for one of my web application. To resize the dialog automatically, I have set getPrefferedSize() property.
This is working fine with JRE 1.5.0_11 and all lower version, even ok with 1.4.x. But if I am viewing the applet in a browser having JRE 1.6.0, dialog box size is automatically streatched. Height of the dialog box is increased automatically more than the desktop height. I can not view top & bottom area of the dialog box on my desktop.
Please guide me why is this issue only with JRE 1.6.0 and what should I do to eliminate & resolve it.
    Thanks.

Really? I thought all official versions would be downloadable through webstart. I'm curious why would Sun not make them available. Now I need to explain to my higher-ups why I promised to get webstart to automatically update all our user's JRE but now failed to make good. :-(
Regarding the printing problem: With b105 the printouts would have text that is upside, mirrored and cropped. It was a total mess. The problem is reproducible. We manually upgraded some users to b106 and the problem disappeared completely. I think Sun fixed it in 106 but now the problem is getting all our users onto JRE b106.
Java Webstart is supposed to do this for me but now it appears to be failing me big time.

  • What happened to all the compressors when saving a wav file?

When saving a wav file in Soundbooth CS3 you had your choice of 7 different compressors. In Soundbooth CS4 you can only save a wav file uncompressed. My office has to save wav files using the CCITT u-Law compressor for uploading to Verizon's VoIP system when we create auto-attendant messages.
I could download a program that will save audio files into other formats, including the CCITT u-Law format, but I would prefer to just use Soundbooth and copying the CompilerWave.prm file from CS3 into CS4 doesn't work. Is there any way to get these compressors back without having to use another program?

    Hi,
Several of the WAV compressors available in Soundbooth CS3, including the CCITT u-Law, will be available soon. There were some issues with including them in CS4, but those problems have been resolved. I apologize for the inconvenience. On the upside, the codecs are now faster and several bugs were addressed.
I'll post an announcement here when this is available, and I believe it will show up in the Adobe Updater tool.

  • RAW Images Alter When Saved After Processing in CS5 Camera RAW?

    Hi,
I am currently experiencing a problem in Photoshop CS5, where after processing a CR2 RAW image file in Camera RAW, whether I then decide to open the image straight into CS5, or save as a jpeg or tiff file, the image completely alters from what I was previously seeing in the Camera RAW window?
The saved jpeg/tiff, or image now shown in CS5 is now very tinted, where objects that were perfectly white in the Camera RAW window are now a dirty yellow colour.
I was just wondering if there was any advice any of you could give me as to what the problem might be?
I have made sure that both CS5 and the Camera RAW window are both set to sRGB, but it has had no effect on the problem.
Thank you in advance for any help

  • Why do my images and layered files 'shrink' in pixel size when 'saving as/saving for web'?

I'm using CS3 and when I "Save As" or "Save For Web" to a format like .jpg for example, the resulting .jpg is reduced in size considerably.
For example I was touching up a photograph that was 1300 x 700. I saved out the file for web to my desktop and emailed it to a friend. When my friend opened it, it had shrunk down to about 75% of the original 1300 x 700 size. I have the same problem when saving out layered .psd's, which lead me to believe it had something to do with my save settings. I've scoured the net for answers as well as gone through each setting, but have not been able to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer in solving this annoying problem!
    Jason

Jeffrey, I checked the UI dialog and it's set to 'original'.
Marian, this problem occurs whether I email the file or not.
Thanks for the responses guys, but the problem continues. Any other thoughts? Remember this happens under both 'Save As' and 'Save for Web' actions.

  • Type Kit- Why does a dialog box appear when opening a file?

Type Kit- Why does a dialog box appear every time I open a file- asking to substitute fonts that I've had working for years. Also, what is that pink box around the type- they are not missing fonts.

Which version?- Latest Creative Cloud Type Kit
Which system?- Mac OS 10.10.1, iMac 7i
Where does the file come from? File is an Adobe Illustrator CC
Which fonts?- Any and all fonts that was used in the .ai file which I have been using for years.
Do you use font management? Which one? Mac Font Book
Are you really sure that your fonts are properly installed? Yes and verified.
Did it ever work? Yes, Ever since I opened Font Kit on Creative Cloud I get a window stating that the fonts in an existing file are missing and do I want to substitute.
Did you just upgrade?- Apps always upgraded.
Did you change systems?- Ever since I opened Font Kit on Creative Cloud
The PINK box around the type, I believe, indicates a missing font- but they are not missing and I'm sure as hell not going to let Type Kit control MY FONTS.  How do I turn it off as the pink box is intruding with the design composition???
SEE Sumit Singh’s reply- worked for the pink highlight. I have to see about the dialog box thing- I will let you know.

  • Adobe CS5 Applications open/save dialog boxes size always resets

So, since the Mountain Lion update, all of my Adobe CS5 save/open window dialog boxes reset their size each time. In my case they are too small, causing me to have to enlarge the window out every time, to be able to see file names/locations etc.
Not a massive issue, but rather annoying when I think of the time I'm wasting resizing windows hundreds of times a day, especially as this never used to happen.
    Is this an Adobe issue?
Can anyone using Adobe CS6 on Mountain Lion tell me if they experience this too?
Anyone on using Adobe CS5 on OSX-10.8.2 experienced this too, any suggestions?

I came here looking for this very same help.  It is driving me crazy.  It happened when I recently updated to Mountain Lion.  It has to be a Mountain Lion problem, as I'm using the very same Adobe products that I've used for years and it never occurred before.
I'm also having the problem with Mountain Lion resizing my coverflow finder windows every time I open them.  Also completely annoying.
How do I get the windows (saving and coverflow) to stay in the same position as I last had them versus resetting to some default position every time I open them or click on a new file?  Very annoying.
