Diamond plus vcore problem

hey guys, just purchased this board (see topic) and tried to overclock my 3200+ amd venice core. For some reason i cant get the voltage to go any higher than 1.45 in the bios (or elsewhere), no other options in the menu are selectable, only 1.450 and everthing lower to 0.800 in 0.050 increments or something. Am i completely missing something or is the board screwed? btw..i reflashed bios and same problem.
thanks in advance

Hello !!
There is an Option in Bios in Cell Menu called  "Extra CPU voltage" you can raise it with the +/- keys.
This guide is also good getting into the basics with this Board:

  • K8N Diamond Plus BIOS problems

Hi , just replaced my lanpartyUT sli-dr expert with K8N Diamond Plus mobo and having problems allready :D
    Just finished overclocking and now running at (250 x 11 x 800mhz x 1.300v+0.2v x dram/fsb 1/1 x 2.80v)
    Memory timings --> (3,7,14,3,2,8,2,2,1,3,200mhz(15.6us),1,16x,7x,7ns,5ns,0clk,DiCC:enabled,1T,8beats,reduce 00%... ...)
The problem is "BOOT" related... System is PRIME95 stable , but still when trying to "restart windows" or "reset" the system wont BOOT !!?
When i shutdown and then power up, the system boots perfectly !? What can cause this kind of behaviour :/
I have OC:d quite many systems , but this is new even to me

The windows core program shows htt link 1000mhz exact. Memory settings are all "manually" adjusted. Cpu vcore is 1.300 & extra voltage 0.2v=1.5v.
All ECC options are disabled.Hdd:s adjusted manually. Should i rise the (NB) voltage , or does that have anything to do with this !? Maybe not at 250fsb only :D Cool & quiet is disabled naturally :/ All fan controls disabled , connected directly to psu. No D.O.T,s or anything automatic overclocking enabled. The (L cache & data cache scrubs) are strange to me, so those are disabled. After flashed bios , enabled boot sector protection. All the mobo power connectors are in use (24pin+8pin+4pin) Could it be that the memory modules should be used on ports 3 & 4 (now on 1 & 2) ??

  • NX8600GTS - Diamond Plus HDMI Problem

I have this new video card and am trying to connect a single display via HDMI only.  I do not wish to use DVI.  I'm having difficulity in setting this up properly.  I need help.  So far the only way I can get this to work is using Dual Display option and use DVI and then send the signal to the HDMI interface; however it requires the DVI connecter be active.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I too am having this problem!!  This is a serious problem that someone from MSI needs to address.  I bought this card to use on my HTPC in my living room on my new Sony 52" LCD for gaming and HDTV.  If I plug just the HDMI in then then everything works up until the point Windows is supposed to start, and the sytem goes still and no display unless I plug something into the DVI port, even a VGA adapter to the TV's built in PC input, then suddently the system starts to boot.  I don't want to have to flip back and forth just to get windows to boot everytime!
I did some searching on the internet and noticed other people have had this problem in the past with older model Nvidia cards like the 6800.  They appeared to have solved the problem by updating the Nvidia Bios with an ASUS version bios (even though their card was a different manufacturer).  I don't want to attempt this, but the moral of the story is it means the problem most likely is bios related, not driver.  Also the fact that Windows doesn't even boot yet, meaning the driver isn't even loaded yet, confirms that assumption.  What is probably happening is Windows is not detecting any displays so it doesn't boot.  I tried to update the MSI bios but apparently it's at the most current version, and there are no older versions listed for download I could try.
Can someone from MSI please help us out here with this problem?  Most of the people who buy this HDMI card want to plug it into their HDTV as the only display.  If you can't do that with the HDMI it's worthless for that use!

I have the same problem as the original poster with still no solution.
Maybe I can clear it up a little as far as the specific problem.
    Hardware:
MSI 8600GTS Diamond Plus (just one, no sli)
    MSI K9N SLI MB
    Corsair XMS2 Ram
    Sony Bravia 60" Projection TV
If I plug the video card into a regular monitor via DVI, video card works great. Boots into Windows XP, everything is good.
As soon as I disconnect the card from the monitor and move it to the tv and connect the tv via HDMI, system can boot into BIOS but after the summary screen, goes blank and Windows won't load. No HDD active LED, nothing.
As soon as I plug in a monitor via DVI, boot into Windows, plug in HDMI, switch to Multiple monitors, I can then use the TV as a monitor.
This wont due since I don't want to have a monitor sitting next to my TV all the time.
I don't want to use another output method for my TV as, the way my sound system is connected, I don't want to have to select different sound sources everytime I switch input's on my tv (if that makes sense to anyone).
I have done a MSILive BIOS update for the card but I'm not sure what it did since I didn't read the release notes.
Drivers have no affect in this problem since it doesn't physically boot into Windows anyway.
    ANY HELP WOULD BE AWESOME!!!

  • K8N Diamond Plus boot problems

I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month.  Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on.  The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen.  The set of four lights on the back show  R R
                                                                                                    G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine.  I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software.  I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything.  The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does.  However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly.  And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor?  I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard.  Any help or suggestions would be welcome.  Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem?  I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements.   Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are awesome!  Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about.  I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer.  I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before.  So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right?  And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial?  I'll have to go poke around their website also.  Well, thank you all so much for all of your help.  This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them.  Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first.  Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that?  It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram.  Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen.  thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

New rig - have the K8N Diamond Plus, AMD 64 X2 4400+, Logictechz5300-e speakers.  When testing audio - the front speaker channel does not work - the center and rear are fine - tested to make sure it wasn't the speakers - definitely a mobo problem.  Have tried it set to 5.1, 6 and 8 channels.  Has anyone else experienced this issue??
    Thx

The audio signal from DVD or CD is passingthrough IDE CABLE digital..(When listen CD audio). Now with X-FI you must buy(of corse if you have the money) 7.1 audio speakers like mine(gigaworks s750) to take full advance of your card.Believe me you won't regret it!.

  • New BIOS for Diamond Plus any problem noted yet.

Anybody using the new BIOS for the Diamond Plus Version 3.09 BIOS.
I have got it installed and upgrade went will, but be ready for changes.  Go over you BIOS Setting each and every parameter, because they have changed a lot of the defaults, like all Network controllers are disabled by default.  The have made changes to the Hyper Transport Defaults setting they are what they should have been in the first place.
Marvel Yukon network controller drivers of old will not will not load and MSI USA download for the driver is off line. Tw site is not down but not taking new requests for the drive because of traffic load.  Old nVidia network drives loaded after I enabled on board LAN on in the BIOS.
That, all I have checked out so far, Oh yes the changes in Memory BIOS setting, but have not been able to check all of the out.  If some one with experience with memory BIOS settings could check them out and give report back it would be helpful.
We asked for it now we got it, for better or worse.

Wow, funny how 2 gigs still needs a paging file with a standard desk top!
Of course, even funnier just how fast 2 gigs can be eat'n up with 3d rendering and audio/video encoding!
Just blowing my mind, remember when 32meg RAM was considered over kill?
    Ah those 3.1 days
that's not a bios issue it is a xp home and xp pro 32 bit issue.
if you want 4 gigs you need a 64 bit OS like server 2003 or xp pro 64 bit.
Yes it will run in dual channel but due to limitations you will have it run in ddr 333 *UNLESS* you have single sided 1 gig sticks.
Even with 4 gigs you will see slightly less than 4 gigs in bios, as a portion is Used there. once in windows you will see the full 4 gigs.
btw I am on my old P4 3.0e prescott as i sent in my two 7800gt's for the step up program.
They should be here by the 31st.
For what it is worth I have had 4 gigs working on this mb and cpu using ms's free dl of their 64 bit os.
It took me for ever to figure out why i was only getting 333 ddr and 3.5 gigs. this was 18 months ago.
When i ran a dual boot of the xp hom and xp 64 with 4 gigs, i did not see the support from my prefered software vendors.  So i sent back 2 gigs, and stuck with xp home. Now that i have the new amd i stepped up to xp pro 64 bit and love it.

  • MSI Diamond Plus - SATA problem

    Hello,
I have a MSI Diamond Plus board.  About 3 weeks ago my old OCZ 520ADJ power supply failed.  I RMA'd it and received a 600 ModXtreme back.  After hooking it up I am no longer able to use the four nForce4 SATA ports connected through the nvidia chipset.  I am still able to use the 2 from SIL.  Please any advice would be really helpful!  When I plug any device ( 3 HD's 1 DVD/CD Rom ) into any of the nvidia supplied ports they are not detected by the BIOS.

  • Diamond Plus overclocking problems - memory related?

    Here's my setup:
    K8N Diamond Plus (stock BIOS)
    x4 512MB Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL PC3200 Memory (2-2-2-5 factory settings)
    AMD San Diego 3700+
    Seasonic S12 500
If I run two of the sticks in dual channel (1 gig of memory), I get DDR 400 but any attempt to change FSB results in Windows being unable to start.  I've tried x10 and x11 mults. Being able to overclock with only one gig of memory is my main priority since I can use my extra gig for another machine. That and I want to run at true DDR400.
Here's where I'm really confused: If I run all four sticks (2 gigs), my memory runs in DDR333 and I can get the following overclock:
CPU @ 2.64 ghz (up from 2.2): x11 Mult, 240 HTT, +.05 additional voltage. Temperatures all seem fine, but I know people have been able to get this CPU up to 2.8 ghz. Any higher than what I have, and I can't post or Windows will crash.
Prime95 ran once overnight w/out error. Will try again tonight.
My memory is set for 1:1 and it shows up as DDR400 in the BIOS, but detects as DDR333 at post (why?). Also, CPU-Z shows my memory frequency as only 188.6 MHZ (too low?) and FSB:DRAM as CPU/14 (also too low?). Command rate is 2T and the volts have been set to Corsair's spec of 1.75.
This is my first overclock so I'm sure I've screwed up somewhere. For example, in the Hyper Transport settings, I set all three of the possible settings to 1000mhz from 400mhz. Is this wrong?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Just to reemphasize- I'd like to overclock with only 1 gig of my memory in the system, or have higher clock and memory speeds using two gigs.

you will get the DDR333 when using 4 sticks because of the memory controller limitations on the CPU. there is nothing you or MSI can do about it, it's the CPU's fault. however, san diegos might be working at DDR400 with 4 sticks if you set the command rate to 2T. it doesn't always work, but sometimes it does.
as for the hyper transport, do the following. divide the number that you set in BIOS for all 3 to 200 (for example if you set it to 400 then 400/200 =2). that gives you the HT multiplier. now, multiply that by the FSB that you are using, so at 240, you will have 240x2=480. you always have to keep the resulting value between 600 and 1000.
hope it's clear. you can read some more on the OC-ing in the stickies of this section.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Bios problem solved ;-))

Thanx for the advices related to my previous topic. The system is 100% stable now , the problem was bios protection & cpu vcore related
I noticed that i had forgot to enable the bios protection after flashing and enabled it, now the system boots every time normally
The cpu vcore was messed up too.. i changed the 1.300v+0.2v to 1.400v+0.1v and it works now, the vcore is now 1.524v and i just primed another 24hours
Oh i almost forgot, i have to give extra credit to MSi from making this EXELLENT board    i tought that my previous "lanpartyUT nf4 sli-dr expert" board was good, but this mobo has deffinetly shown DFi its place

No , the bios (boot) sector/virus  protection is not so important.. Just noticed that my "FORTRON" epsilon 700w PSU was the main problem... You guys can imagine starting a 2X 7900gtx , x-fi fatality and 6hdd:s powered system with a psu that has only ("15A") 12v rails
When booting to OS , the monitor shuts down because theres not enough power to feed even the 7900gtx cards  still the system boots, but
thats not a good sign... Just ordered the TAGAN 1,1KW PSU !!! its has 20A 12v rails..GOD DAMNED if thats not enough...

they still only find em as ddr 266 or ddr 333, tried too update my bios too 1.2 but then board gets unstable but can find emas ddr 400 in manuel mode but how too find the ram as  ddr 400 with the 1.00 bios where board is stable.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Power Problems...

Hi all, having problems again  When booting to OS , the monitor shuts down.. still after a few seconds the os boots
It sounds like the system "almost" isnt getting enough juice.. Could it be ?? The fortron epsilon (fx700-gln) psu has only 15A 12v rails,
and i think those should be like at least 18Amps am i right ? So maybe all the problems are caused by my crap PSU !?
Or could it be just that the 4pin molex (pci-e extra voltage) and my x-fi fatalitys (4pin mini) are connected on the same 12v rail ?
Its hard to connect all the devices, because the psu has only 2 mini connectors (4pin) and my system reguires 4 of those
So the same 12v rail that powers the 7900gtx cards (4pin mobo) powers allso my x-fi fatality , DVD-RAM
Would the "TAGAN" 1,1KW PSU do the trick !? Noticed that it has 20A 12 rails

Ok.. But still wondering.. theres so many little annoying problems that.. USB devices leave lights on when shutdown.. when booting to OS the monitor shuts down (no signal) for a while and then starts up..?.. it can of curse be the SLi configuration (startup).. and the reset/restart problem still occurs..
Just wondering my "BIOS" settings.. How these should be --> Pci-e (pcie1-pcie2-pci/pcie2-pcie1-pci) or something like that..<---
The second is PCI Latency (32/64/96/128.....)
The A643700+ is OC,d the same way that with my previous mobo (lanpartyUT nf4 sli-dr expert) , 250x11x4xdram/fsb:1/1x1.300.2vx2,80v
    So its 1.5v & 2,75ghz (PRIMED) , ram timings are the same , ram in slots 1 & 2 (green & purple) , 24pin main power+8pin extra power+4pin molex.. , both pci-e cards have 6pin power , sli-bridge installed properly , newest nf4 x16 drivers , newest BIOS , newest display driver....
But still when not OC,d , the system works OK  i cant understand  :-X
