Dictionary doesn't remember added words (ID2)

Hi. I like the interactivity of InDesign's dictionary, but there's one huge problem I've experienced since the beginning... the dictionary doesn't remember added words. As I add words in one document, it seems to acknowledge my action; ie, if I add the new word again, it no longer highlights it as misspelt. As far as I can see from my preferences, either with a document open or without a document open, I'm using the default BRT.UDC dictionary. Also, I merge this dictionary into any open document so that it can see (?) it...
The most annoying thing is that sometimes the dictionary appears to work! But I can't seem to find a hard and fast way of making it work all the time!
Also, is there a way of seeing what words I have added to the default dictionary. At the moment it appears that there are none... although I can see words that have been added to the dictionary of the open document (ie, a few).
This appears to be the ONLY area where quark was simpler, easier, more friendly, less techy...!
Any ideas?
Thanks

Yup - added words (gulp! I hope). I have the cursor flashing in a suspect word, hold down the control button and the contextual menu pops up, asking me what I want to do. I choose 'add word'... and hey, presto! Or not, in my case...!

  • 6280 won't remember 'spell' words

    Hey
Does anyone know how to get a 6280 to remember words that you spell ie. not in the predictive text dictionary?

I have exactly the same problem. My 6280 frequently "forgets" all of its new words and goes back to the original set. Is this a design fault or is this a problem with the phone? All my old nokias remembered added words whatever you did with them.

  • HT5624 how do I change the security questions on my daughters itunes account. I do not remember adding the questions and they do not make sence to me. can not figure out how to get to her  email account that it is showing for her altern

I cant seem to be able to change the secutity questions on my minor daughters itunes account. I set the account up but I do not remember adding the security questions and they do not make sense to me. It says that the alternate account it would be sent to is@ me.com but I can not figure our how to get to it to retreive the email to reset the questions. My daughters account may have recently been hacked so I am trying to change all passwords. I changed the itunes account and added another email but I still can not change security questions in case I ever need them.
    <Email Edited by Host>

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email address from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
The reset link on an account will only show if there is a rescue email address on it, alternate email addresses are different and not used for resetting them. If she has a rescue email address on her account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down this page will give you a reset link on the account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
If she doesn't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use steps 1 to 7 half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • My MBP doesn't remember my Time Capsule wireless network when waking from sleep

My MBP (OS 10.5.8) doesn't remember my Time Capsule wireless network when waking from sleep.  Thus, every time my MBP wakes from sleep, I need to select the Airport icon in the upper menu bar, select "Join other network", enter SSID and password.  This is very cumbersome.  And, I never had this problem when I was using the ISP's provided wireless router/gateway/DSL modem. Adding the Time Capsule and using it to generate the wireless network has introduced this problem.
It appears that this problem has to do with the hidden SSID.  I don't need the lecture on how hidden SSID provides no serious security benefit.  That's why I have the WPA2 encryption.  I'm interested in a solution that will allow the Time Capsule to generate the wireless network, maintain a hidden SSID, continue to use WPA2 encryption, but have my MBP recognzie and autoconnect to this network.
    Solutions I've alread tried:
    1. Open Network Preferences
    2. Select Airport from left hand column (and ensure Airport is at top of that list)
    3.  Select Advanced
    4.  Delete all Preferred Networks.
    5.  Apply settings.
    6.  Restart computer
    7.  Return to Network Preferences and from Advanced page, manually add my network with hidden SSID and WPA2 password
This solution works fine as long as I don't take my computer elsewhere and connect to another network.  As soon as my preferred networks list gets another network, my MBP stops finding my TC network.  Since I take my laptop to a lot of places (it's a laptop, after all...) this is a problem.
As I say, prior to adding the TC on my network (and using it to generate the wireless network), my MBP had no problem keeping 50+ preferred network names/passwords in the Preferred Network list, but always automatically finding/connecting to my home network without the need to "Join other network."  Thus, I assume the problem lies with the Time Capsule.
    Any ideas?

LaPastenague, thanks for weighing in.  Didn't know that the hidden SSID capability was not IEEE standardized, and thus different devices will handle hidden SSID differently.  With my admittedly limited knowledge of how SSID/hidden SSID works, I'm still a little confused as to why my MBP would remember the generic router/gateway's hidden network, but struggle with the TC's hidden network.
To my knowledge, when an SSID is broadcast by a base station (Airport, wireless gateway, etc.), a connecting device (like a laptop, iPad, etc.) detects this broadcast--this would be a passive reception of this SSID signal.
When an SSID is hidden, the base station does not broadcast its identification.  Rather, a connecting device must transmit the name, and when the base station recognizes the broadcast, the connection is made. That's what you do when you select "Join another network" and manually enter the SSID.
The idea with OS X's Network Preferences is that these steps, whether for hidden networks or broadcast SSIDs, become automated.
Where is the potential for a different chipset between the TC and the previously used wireless router/gateway to alter this functionality?  Shouldn't the selection of an SSID by the MBP to broadcast to seek for a base station be a function solely on the MBP?  And once broadcast by the MBP, the TC should detect and reply?
Basically, the MBP can connect to the hidden TC manually just fine.  The MBP can connect to the old setup automatically just fine.  The MBP cannot connect to the TC automatically.  Aren't these automatic connection functions solely on the MBP?
I'll try un-hiding the network and re-verifying that the problem is exclusively with the hidden network.

  • Adding words to spellcheck in Word

Hi, I'm not sure if this has been answered or not...still figuring out the whole discussion forum thing...how does one go about adding words to the spellchecker in word?
any help would be MOST appreciated
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Here's what Microsoft Office Word 2004 help says:
"Add words to a custom dictionary during a spelling check
    1. On the Tools menu, click Spelling and Grammar.
    2. In the Not in dictionary box, make sure you see the word you want to add to a custom dictionary.
    3. Click Options.
    4. On the Custom Dictionary pop-up menu, click the dictionary you want to add words to, and then click OK.
If you don't see your custom dictionary in the list, you need to activate the dictionar5. Click Add.
Tip If you're using automatic spell checking, you can hold down CONTROL and click the word you want to add, and then click Add on the contextual menu."

  • Spell Check ignores added words

I have a long list of added words in LocalDictionary. (Spell Check really needs a medical dictionary.) Spell Check now ignores all added words and marks those words as misspelled. When I tell Spell Check to learn a previously added word it does so. The LocalDictionary is not updated when the word is learned. Thus, Spell Check knows that the word is in the LocalDictionary when it is told to add a word, but not when it is spell checking.
This happens in TextEdit, Stickies, StoryMill, and all applications that use Apple's Spell Check. I copied the text of LocalDictionary, trashed the original, and saved a clean copy--no help. I used Terminal to kill and restart Spell Checking--no help. Shutdown--no help. My next step would be reinstalling OS X, but I'd prefer not to do that time-consuming task. Any advice?

    Welcome to our community, Dan
If you click File > Project Settings > General tab, what language is configured for the project?
Out of curiosity, how exactly did you check the dictionary to ensure the words were there?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Safari Doesn't Remember Tabs

Noticed a strange behaviour in Safari 6 on Mountain Lion.
When I close the window by clicking the red x in the top left and then re-open, Safari comes up with a blank pages, it doesn't remember any of the tabs I had open.
If however I close it by clicking quit on the Safari dock icon and then re-open, Safari opens back up with all my tabs from the last session.
This doesn't seem right, any advice?

When you quit Safari, (Mountain) Lion's Resume feature will remember what pages you had open and reopen them the next time you start Safari, because that's what the feature is supposed to do.
But when you close Safari's window—not by quitting, but by clicking the red button—(Mountain) Lion assumes that you don't want to see all those window's tabs again. (That's why you closed the window.) So it doesn't restore them when you open a new window.
You should get into the habit of quitting Safari when you want to stop using it, but might want to resume where you left off later. Really, the same goes for all other Apple apps. Closing a window tells the app and the OS, "I don't want this file/page/whatever to be open anymore." On the other hand, quitting the app tells the OS, "I don't want to use this app right now, but I might use it again later, and please reopen the same files/pages/whatever the next time."
By the way, the easiest way to quit an app is to press ⌘Q.

  • Since updating to 3.6.15 today, back button no longer works and FF doesn't remember URLs

Since updating to 3.6.15 today, back button no longer works and FF doesn't remember URLs. Not just that memory of previous URLs got wiped out, it still doesn't remember the ones I've typed in since I updated. And No back button, it's really hard to use.
I went thru all the settings and could not find a way to fix this problem. What is up? I've never had this happen in any version of IE, FF, or Chrome.
Can I get back previous version? Until then, it's Chrome and IE for me.
I'll be happy to delete any plug-ins if it will make this problem go away.
    THANKS in advance!

Thanks. This didn't solve te problem but it seemed to have solved itself. all of a sudden it started working properly, without me even closing FF and starting it up again. Thanks Cor-el, if it happens again I'll try your solution.

    With xfce4 I use .....mount /dev/sd(xx) /mnt/md...
    Setup .../mnt/md in /mnt with ..cd /mnt...mkdir /mnt/md
This will mount the flash drive.
I do not know automount for xfce4.

  • Labels not working...bridge doesn't remember labels

Adobe Bridge doesn't remember labels in CS4 in two computers...both Vista?

You could look at it another way.  Make your settings and folder selection then use file/exit.
Then no matter how you close it in future, or where you are at, it will open at your default setting.
Be aware however that it is always running in the background and must be closed to install updates.

Hey guys I got a used iBook from a family friend that has it password protected.I can't update or delete programs or download anything without the passwords and he doesn't remember them.Is there any way for me to get around these without wiping the computer and starting from scratch?

    Hello,
Sadly without the system disk you can't do a lot. I would suggest you enable root user, log in as root and reset your administrators password, however you can't without knowing the administrator password first.
The only solution would be is to obtain the correct system disk or buy a retail copy of Mac OS X. But note, it depends on what version of the iBook you own depends, on what version of Mac OS X you will require.
You can still obtain the system disk or retail disks from online vendors, but they come at a cost.
System disk are grey in color, while retail disk have a big 'X' on it.
    Best of luck

  • Preview doesn't remember the last page opened

I have noticed that Preview doesn't remember the last page of the PDF documents after 30 mins of usage (or opening up several PDF files). Is there any way to make Preview always remember the last page of files irrespective of time the file was last used and number of PDF files opened? I think in SL-ML era this was probably the case but since Mavericks it seems to have changed.

    Deleting "browser.download.lastDir" makes firefox unusable.
It's very annoying. I'm sick of the update to 3.6. It's getting worse with each minor update.
Hour after hour researching about this odd behavior sucks!
