Dictionary widget on dashboard stopped working?

This is what happens when I attempt to search/ define a word:
This little cup looking silver thing comes down as opposed to the definition bit.
Only started hapenning recently- worked find before.

I deleted 4 files from /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/ (don't know which file / combination it was but hey, this worked):
com.apple.Dictionary.plist
com.apple.DictionaryServices.plist
widget-com.apple.widget.dictionary.plist
widget-com.apple.widget.dictionary.plist.lockfile
(all the files that seemed relevant to the dictionary at a glance)

Spry widgets js suddenly stopped working

A Website I designed using Dreamweaver 5.5 and spry tabbed panel widget suddenly stopped working; I have made no updates to this page, and have not made any updates to spry menus, css or widgets. I did add google analytics, but that was over a year ago; this problem just started yesterday. Adobe abandoned the Spry framework last year. If your site, or someone else's site that you linked to, was deriving scripts from Adobe's Spry Labs server, those files are gone. You can read more about it below.

If you want to keep using Spry, you must retrieve the scripts from GitHub and upload to your server. Otherwise, switch to another framework like jQuery.

Dashboard stops working when parental controls enabled

Don't say this is answered because the workaround suggested in another topic does not work. This needs to be fixed soon - very annoying. Here are the steps to reproduce.
1. create 2 accounts.
2. enable parental controls on one of them.
3. set a time limit on the controlled account.
4. login to the non-controlled account when the controlled account does not have access.
5. access dashboard.
6. note that it does not work (no widgets come up and you cannot add them back)
If you try the workaround it is only temporary and you lose all your widgets the next time the controlled account is locked. I think there is more than one way to reproduce this but is the most common. Also, the workaround doesn't always work. I think this is a serious bug that fails the "it just works" test. This was my first OS X purchase and probably my last if these type of bugs continue to go unanswered.

I had the same problem, Safari would not open at all in the accounts that had parent controls enabled. I resolved this by going into the admin account and making a copy of safari then pasting it into the library folders as well as the application folders. You can also paste a copy of safari into the other user accounts (desktop) from the admin account. Once that is done, open the parent controls system (check the applications to allow) Internet tab then check safari. Hope that works for you

Widget close button stopped working?

i am finding that in the latest version of muse i can no longer create a lightbox or blank composition in the way i used to, with a close button that would remove the superposed element and return you to the page behind. the option to put in a close button is there, but it does nothing when clicked, so that once you have opened a lightbox or composition you cannot close it again.
has the way to do this changed? it used to work just fine.

It seems to work fine for me for Lightbox. Could you please test it creating a new test website and then preview it in a web browser?
Also, when you say Blank Composition, I assume you are using Lighbox option under widget settings for blank composition as the close button only works for Lightbox functionality.
Please confirm if it works with new test site or not.

Dashboard stopped working

Hi
Yesterday the F12 key suddenly didn't open up the Dashboard. I checked System prefs to see if the F12 key was set to open the Dashboard and it was. I have also tried finding Dashboard in the apps folder in the Finder, but double clicking on this doesn't open it up either. Any idea what might be wrong or how I can reinstall the Dashboard? I couldn't figure out how to do this from the Leopard installation CD...

Hi. You can try to delete the dashboard plist in your home folder. Go to Users/YourLoginName/Library/Preferences and then find com.apple.dashboard.plist and drag it to the trash. Logout and log back in and see if dashboard works already. You can also try repairing disk permission from the Disk Utility. Good luck.

Menu widget roll-over stopped working with Muse 1.0 in IE 8, works in IE 9

I published a site developed with Muse beta last Friday and everything worked perfectly.
Then Monday morning I got the notice to upgrade to Muse 1.0; which I did. I made some minor wording changes to text and then republished the site. (download HTML, published via FTP)
When I checked the site in Preview on a Mac - perfect.
When I checked the Site in Safari on Mac - Perfect
When I checked the site on Chrome in Windows 7 - perfect
When I checked the site in IE 9 on Windows 7 - perfect
When I checked the site in IE 8 on Windows 7 - no roll-over effect to see the sub-menus
All this worked on Friday when I was still using Muse Beta. did something change regarding IE 8 support in Muse 1.0??? I saw no mention of this if it did.

Keyboard Shortcuts (F3 & F4) Stopped Working

My F3 (exposé) and F4 (Dashboard) stopped working when im playing fullscreen games like Call of Duty, Civilization V.... and the trackpad gestures stopped working too
but when im using not fullscreen app/games (windowed) its working fine.
All the keyboard shortcuts (command+Tab,Cmnd+Ctr+Esc,ALL) are not working when i using fullscreen apps/games - so when the game hangs i cant quit it, so i use the shutdown button EVERYDAY
F1 & F2 (Brightness) F5 & F6 (Backlight) F7 F8 F9 F10 F11 F12 they work fine except for f3 and f4
I have no idea what happened, i think its because of a setting changed, i cant find any answer on every forum, i tried the restore default on keyboard pref

Go to (HardDrive) > Users > homefolder (the one with the house icon) > Library > Preferences.
Locate and drag the following prefs files into the Trash -
     com.apple.systempreferences.plist
     com.apple.ServicesMenu.Services.plist
     com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist
Empty the Trash and restart.

I get the "License has stopped working" mesages too.
We have a MacbookPro at home. There are two user-acounts on this mac, one for my wife and one for myself. This way we keep our personal stuff (e-mail, files, settings, dropbox, desktop clutter etc) separated. "Fast user switching" is enabled to easily switch to your personal account.
Now when I open Photoshop I might get the dreaded "License has stopped working" message. This will happen if Photoshop is left open in her account. So I'll have to log into her account, close Photoshop, go back into my own acount and open Photoshop again.
I should not get this message since Photoshop is not part of a particular user account, it is installed in the "Applications" folder which is accesible to all users.
What makes it even more annoying is that I get the "License has stopped working" message on trying to open Photoshop even when Photoshop is closed in in the other acount, but Illustrator is opened.
This makes no sense since we bought Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 as separate programs, not as a part of the Creative Suite.
I did not report this to Adobe yet but it wil do that now.

Yahoo Finance stock widget stopped working

I am using the Yahoo Finance stock widget on Dashboard that comes with OS X on both a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and an iMac running Lion. In the last few days, both of them stopped retrieving data. For years I have added my own mutual fund symbols to the widget to track my funds, and they have worked fine. Just to see if it made a difference, I removed my fund symbols, and suddenly the widget works again with the default stocks and indices that the widget comes with, on both of my machines.
I don't know what the issue is, but I was curious if anyone knows what is causing this. BTW, I already started using the Fidelity stock widget that is on the Apple widget site. The Fidelity widget works fine on both my machines.

When I've had problems with widgets I was able to fix them by deleting the .plist for the particular widget.
Either hold down the option key and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences. Near the bottom of Preferences are the widget .plists widget-com.apple.widget.widget name. You can move the .plist to your desktop and test. If okay delete the old .plist.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Widgets Stopped Working!!!

After reading a lot of articles on how people's widgets stopped working, and how there was no definitive answer, I would like to share what I did.
I have a brand new MBP with Snow Leopard installed. All my widgets worked fine for a while.. Then they just froze up.
I started researching, and trying various things, all with no success... I could see Dashboard eating 100% cpu in Activity Monitor, and when I would kill the process, it would come back.
What I did was, delete all dashboard preferences, ~/Library/Preferences, killed the Dashboard process, opened terminal and typed:
killall Dock(as my research suggested the Dock hold on to the dashboard preferences)
After that, I then added back my widgets and all worked.

Doesn't work for me - no stalled processes that I can find. There are four items called DashboeardClient that keep vanishing and then reappearing for a few seconds at a time. They have a number from 259 to 262 next to them
Also, in the WIDGET MANAGER some have a white '-' sign in a red circle next to them that does not seem to indicate anythng unusual - i.e. some of these widgets are still working.
If I turn widgets off, I can't turn them on again. Even doing a restart and Permissions repair doesn't restart them.
Some Widgets are on the desktop but are empty and do nothing.
You may click on the picture if you need to see it larger. As yo can see, although some are checked again, they haven't returned.

Remove the application, connect the device to Nokia suite, go to 'my stuff' where you'll find all your previously installed applications.
Select the one you want and install.

Widget stops working when second widget added

I added a twitter feed widget via adobe widget and it was working. Then I added an image cycle widget and the image cycle widget worked, but the twitter feed widget stopped showing up in the browser. Here's my code:

Two script instances running how do you keep them from both running? I am trying to bring in a jSocial(1.0) and a Flexslider (2.1) thumbnail navigator both will not run with the other. Can you help?

Gmail Widget in Dashboard Simply Doesn't Work

Hi,
I just purchased a MacBook Pro. Everything is great, but for some reason the Gmail widget in dashboard simply will not work. It installs, but after I put in my email and password the gmail logo blinks and the window remains blank. I have tried downloading it and uninstalling it numerous times. This is a really useful widget as it will allow me to check my email at a glance and it is simply not working. Am I missing something?

Widgets stopped working in iweb

The Google Maps and RSS widget in iWeb just stopped working on my website. Googleamaps says "Closed" and the RSS feed says it can't find it. Weird, my iWeb version is all up to date. Any ideas?

The Map widget hasn't worked since MobileMe shut down. I can be created in other ways. Go here for a step by step tutorial...
