Did 3.1.3 Update Break Speed Control Feature?

I recently updated my 1st generation iPod Touch to iOS 3.1.3 - I then noticed that the 1x and 2x icons were gone while playing podcasts and audiobooks. My podcast seem to be permanently stuck in half speed. I only use my iTouch to listen to podcasts, so this is a serious problem. Any way to resolve it, or downgrade back to iOS 3.1.2 (if that is indeed the problem)?

I have a new 4G and there is only one speed button shown. When you touch it it cycles between 1/2X, 1X and 2X. What happens when you touch yours? Have you tried restting your iPod?
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Front Row - Did the 10.6.3 update break keyboard control?!

So, I came across an odd problem today when helping a friend get her data moved from an old iBook G4 onto a new MacBook Pro 2.66GHz. I walked her through setting up the Migration Assistant while on the phone and drove over to help her install some new software. When I got there, she said she was exploring some of the new apps and Front Row looked like it had frozen on her. It wouldn't respond to the arrow keys, Return, or even Command-Escape. Force-quitting via Command-Opt-Esc worked though. I opened Front Row again, and the same thing happened. For kicks, I grabbed my Apple Remote from my backpack and tried it... it seemed to have control just fine, but the keyboard still didn't. Baffled, I told her I'd look into it more later.
When I got home, I tried it on my MBP 2.53GHz and... low and behold... keyboard control wouldn't work on my machine either! I find this very strange because less than a month ago under 10.6.2 (I held out on 10.6.3 for quite a while... was just lazy, I admit) I KNOW I had full control without needing any Apple Remote to do it! I used it for photo slideshows, movies, and quicktime trailers with NO PROBLEM at all. Now, suddenly, under 10.6.3, I can't use Front Row without an Apple Remote?! What gives??
Am I being stupid or blind to some simple setting somewhere, or did Front Row seriously take a change for the worse and disable keyboard control?? If anyone else can chime in here, it would be most appreciated, particularly if you know of a way to help me regain control like I had before without needing an Apple Remote. (For a computer that sits less than two feet away from me, this is a real annoyance!) Thanks for the help!

I have tried that now, but still the same and now my wi-fi printer has stopped working - it is in the print and scan folder and showing as idle but when I send something to print it appears in the folder but does not print. This too was working fine before the update.
I am afraid as a newbie Mac person all this is just far too much for me. After spending £1500 on a machine only 4 days ago, over £50 on books from Amazon to make sure I learn about the Snow Leopard OS X platform, I do not expect to have these issues from just a simple update. When I wanted to turn back the system to 10.6.2 Apple Care told me I have to re-load the iMac operating system to put it back into its original state - on a pc you would just have to do system restore and the whole thing would have been corrected in 5 minutes whilst I waited for all the apparent issues to be resolved relating to the current update.
I have packed it and today it is going back to the shop - sorry I really tried but this experience is just too much for me - but thanks for all your help.

  • Did the 4.1 Update Break Frame-Blending?

Since the 4.1 update it appears that frame blending in slow motion footage looks noticeably worse. Has anyone else noticed this? Applying a speed change of 50% to my EX1 footage used to look beautiful, but now I get jerky, stuttery motion with noticeable blurring. I suppose this could also be an encoder issue.

Sync with itunes or on your phone go to appstore - update - purchase - all or not on this phone and redownload the app.

  • Did 10.8.2 update break bonjour?

Since updating to 10.8.2 on my two macbook pros, I have the same problems on each.
    1. Airprint printers stop responding after an idle period (30 mins or so).  Requires a reboot of router to access them again.  I can access the printer admin web page just fine with Safari at all times.
    2. Access to shares using Apple File Protocol over TCP/IP similarly cannot be accessed after an inactive period.  They are visible in the Finder, but clicking on them brings up an error about being unable to connect.  Accessing the shares via IP adress does work, however, and then re-enables browing in the Finder for a while.
Is this a bonjour problem?  Any thoughts on troubleshooting?
    Thanks

OK.  I have a fix for you all that seems to work especially if you need Java 6u37 working on any computer Apple disabled it on.  This will work best on 10.6 but can work on 10.7/10.8 as well.
Do not attempt this if you do not know what you are doing.
I will not be held responsible for your system if it stops working or you expose yourself to a virus.  If you are a novice user, you attempt to do this, and something goes wrong, remember you were warned.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Using whatever editor you want at command line as root or using sudo, you will need to edit:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.p list
    Change:
    <key>JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum</key>
    <string>1.6.0_37-b06-435</string>
    To:
    <key>JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum</key>
    <string>1.6.0_37-b06-434</string>
    Change:
    <key>MinimumPlugInBundleVersion</key>
    <string>1.7.11.22</string>
    To:
    <key>MinimumPlugInBundleVersion</key>
    <string>1.7.11.21</string>
    And best of all, change:
    <key>LastModification</key>
    <string>Thu, 31 Jan 2014 16:55:59 GMT</string>
To any date in the future.  (Bad programming on Apple's part but repreive for those of us who have to support archaic Oracle based systems that won't work under Java 7+.)  It won't update again until after the date you put in there.
DO NOT Delete any of the lines that have to do with version number because it will allow older versions of Java, which are not secure, to run.  I would also not recommend that you change the date too far ahead if you are on 10.7/10.8 and are running Java 7 because the security holes in Java 7 are horrible.

  • Did latest MAC OS update break connectaddin...?

Mac Snow leopard - since the latest update this week, connectaddin is not working.
Conference room is fine if I delete it - but if it installs (or if I install the newest version) then the room just locks up on on the little waiting to load windows and never finishes connecting.
    Worked fine before this week.
    Any one else see this?
    Thanks
    Paul

Hi, I am using Vista Ultima x64 and the same behavior is observable. The only changes to the system were update(s) in the last seven days. Yesterday I then noticed that loading the Connect Add-In PlugIn messes up the meeting room. All I can see is a little white window. Deinstalling the Connect Add-In allows at least to login to a meeting and participate as attendee. As soon as I try to share or broadcast content and therefore download and install the Add-In again, the problem shows up anew.
    Update:
This morning  (TUE 17th Nov.09) I could download the Add-In and it worked again (although I had to hit reload once). However, if I do the Audio Settings Wizzard, it complains that a newer Add-In should be used. If you say yes, it downloads again the broken version and the problems start anew, if you say no, everything works so far. It is a guess but it looks like Adobe reverted the Add-in back to the previous version for the main application, but the Audio Wizzards seems to 'see' still the newer (faulty) plugin.

  • XFCE update breaks removable devices feature

    Hello there,
I have read many topics about this but can't really get a hold of what's the issue here. Can somebody please make a summary?
I have thunar-vfs 1.2.0-2 but when plugging a mass storage device I no more get the relevant icons on the desktop. If I install gvfs then I get this feature restored but when trying to mount it I get 20 seconds of delay, then an error and finally the partition mounted!
I am launching the session this way:
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch startxfce4
Nothing useful in dmesg, except the normal log lines for "Attached SCSI removable disk"

    manouchk wrote:
Here, I cannot get access to mass storage devices anymore. I'm not using xfce so the problem maybe more general. Maybe we missed some changes in the automatic way the mass storage is treated?
Maybe something changed if a new kernel is installed??
Here my usb mass storage device looks like they are only acessible through root:
    crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 3  3 févr. 12:45 /dev/bus/usb/001/004
I think that the groups should not be root. I don't remember what it should be. Maybe we need to write a new udev rule?
    (Is udev still used?)
Here here here...I also suppose it's udev's fault, because the mass storage devices should belong to storage group!
But I need some other pointer for a solution...
Anyway I am using a custom 2.6.38-rc3 but it's the same with Arch Linux stock kernel

  • How do I update my ActiveX controls without breaking existing VIs?

Hi, I'm new to LabView. I've inherited a labview application that makes use of several user-written VIS. All these vi files use an ActiveX control. For better or worse, the way they've done it is to put a ActiveX Container on the front panel. They then picked "Insert ActiveX Control", and picked the correct OCX. In the block diagram, they set up a "Invoke" Node and wire the ActiveX control to that.
The problem occurs when I update the ActiveX control. I added a couple of methods and reregistered it. When I run one of my vi files, I get:
Error 0 occurred at VI Open & Init Spinstand
    Possible Reasons....
I then thought that going to the front panel and deleting the ActiveX control and reinser
ting it would work. Instead I got the message:
Error 1598667368 occurred at VI open & Init...
I should point out that I'm not even attempting to use the new function yet; I'm just running an old .vi file with the updated ActiveX control.
The version of LabView I'm using is 6.0.2. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Is there a way to gracefully update the ActiveX control? I'm I adding ActiveX controls in the best way?
Any help or references would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Updating *.OCX OR *.DLL Component When Active X Automation Interface has Changed
Given that you have changed the ActiveX automation interface, e.g: by appending new functions, then, the original 'registered' ActiveX server automation interface is no longer compatible with the new one.
In this case you must: (1) un-register the original interface; (2) Copy the New *.OCX/*.DLL File over the previous ones; (3) Then re-register the new interface; (4) After that you must visit ALL your LabVIEW Diagram PROPERTY and METHOD ActiveX automation nodes and re-reference those same functions.
These FOUR (4) Steps are further explained below:
    1. Unregister the *.OCX or *.DLL file by running the command
    Regsvr32 /u
Make sure that points to the full path name for your *.OCX or *.dll file. You must use the opening and closing quotes if your file path has spaces.
    2. Copy the new *.OCX or *.DLL files over the old ones
This means that you will be over-writing the old *.OCX or *.DLL with the new files. Replacing these files is re-commended so that you do not end up with multiple copies of the same file.
    3. Register The New *.OCX Controls
Register the new controls by running the command
    Regsvr32
This will now honor your new ActiveX automation interface in place of the last one.
    4. Re-Visit All PROPERTY and METHOD Nodes and Re-Reference the same functions that appear in those nodes
This means that you will be right-clicking on all the existing PROPERTY and METHOD nodes and choosing the functions accordingly from the drop-down list-view/menu. If the list view is grayed-out, then Steps 1 to 3 did not take!
    NB: GOTCHA FOR *.DDL Users
If you have sub-VIs that use the *.dll Ref icon then you will have to cut and re-insert this reference control in all those sub-Vis. A quick way is to copy the top level *.Dll ref icon and paste it over the control and indicator versions of the same in those sub VIs.
These four Steps plus the 'Gotcha Step' have worked consistenly when I have had to update ActiveX controls featuring a changed automation interface.

  • Did OS X Mavericks v10.9.4 update break bluetooth audio for anyone else?

Did OS X Mavericks v10.9.4 update break bluetooth audio for anyone else?
I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 duo MacMini from 2010, and I just updated to the latest OSX (10.9.4 (13E28)) and now bluetooth audio is broken.
I can pair my device (LG Tone+) to the mac, but no audio will play though it.  I've rebooted the machine, reconnected the device after the update, restarted the browser, all with no results.
Typically, when I connect to the system I will get audio acknowledgements through the headset, "Power On" "Battery High" "Connected"
I still get those audio queues through the device.  However when I open up a video on YouTube, or attempt to stream music on Spotify...nothing happens.
I've plugged wired headphones into the system and that works just fine.  When I connect my Bluetooth headset, the audio to the wired headphones disconnects, so it seems like everything is behaving normally, except that no audio plays through the bluetooth headset.
Any ideas on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.  So, what do we think?

    Try resetting the SMC.

  • New Podcasts app - now no speed control!

This morning, I updated to the newest Podcast app (version 1.2.1), as well as the newest iOS version (6.1.3). Now my Podcasts app doesn't have speed control! I read a review online that said it's supposed to look like this:
But instead, mine looks like this, without all the features at the top:
Am I missing something? Is there a way to customize it to show all those things at the top? Or did the new updates break something? Please help, since the speed option is the single most useful feature of Podcasts!
    Thanks

This really ticked me off to think they would remove that functionality. It looks like I just found it for the iPhone, though for an hour podcast just concluded I went all through the interface with no luck at spreading up the podcast.
So yes, it's still there, hopefully anyone looking can find the full screen album artwork within the interface to then touch and find the 1x, 1.5x, and 2x playback option.

  • What are the things 10.6.8 update break?

After the 10.6.8 update I am having so many issues,
first, the %100 cpu usage of dock, disabled parallels, and now it is ok,
then, a reboot and I am unable to login, I enter my password, it begins the login process, then logs me out,
if I persist, it logs me in after a couple of tries, but each time a few of my applications are missing at random, and the environment is very very unstable, sometimes I see no desktop background, sometimes I start firefox and I am logged out again.
I've seen some people suggesting removal of login items to resolve a similar but not the same issue, so I'm inclined to think overall, there is an issue with some applications which 10.6.8 update breaks.
For starters my login items are:
    GrowlHelper
    Geektool
    EyeTv Helper
    Canon IJ Network scanner
    ituneshelper
    Magicprefs
    Sophosuiserver
Does anyone have any problems with any of these?
I only verified the parallels desktop 6 issue up to now.

  • HT1386 It says to click the device button in the upper right corner....there isn't one.  Itunes doesn't even recognize my devices since I did the most current update.  I have two iPhones, thru different carriers, and neither one works now!

I did the latest iTunes update...I have 2 iPhones--each thru a different provider.  Now, I can't sync to download any music from iTunes.  iTunes doesn't recognize either device now.  I went thru diagnostics, didn't work.  I tried the suggestions from Apple...it says to click the device button in upper right corner....there isn't one.  When I connected each for the first time after update, it "installed device drivers".  I have checked for further updates on iTunes--nothing.  I made sure there were no updates listed for iPhones...all up to date.  I get an error code and from what I have looked through in forums etc, it seems like a lot of people are getting it...0ex000084 I believe it was.  Windows opens to download photos but that's it.  Devices are not listed at all.  I have tried all 3 USB ports in computer too.  I have never had any problems before this update!!  HELP!  I just bought $15 worth of music I can't download to phones now!

On the left hand side of iTunes do you have the sidebar up left hand side?
If this is not up then try this, with iTunes open press "Control" and "s" together and it should bring it up. From the sidebar it should show an option devices with the iPhones underneath it.

  • [Solved] Asus L1366 mobo, cpu fan speed control

    Hi, everyone,
I finally have this new core i7 system, to replace my old AMD athlonx2.  I have one question about the CPU fan speed control.
I remember that in my old system, the cpu fan speed control works out of box, no configuration is needed.
But when I install arch 64 on this new i7 system, the cpu fan is running at its maximum speed constantly while the CPU temperature is modestly low. I know there is a wiki teaching how to do it.
However, I am just curious why it doens't work out of box any more? Does CPU fan control work for you guys out of box normally? especially the new Core i7 cpu users?
Please let me know, really appreciated it.
    Thanks a lot.
Update: the issue is solved, see my last post, the solution is blacklisting: asus_atk0110, instead use w83667hg.
    Cheers.

First off, it would be useful to know what the sensors-detect script actually reports.
Okay. How fan control works on Linux: First, navigate to /sys/class/hwmon
Each of these folders, i.e. hwmon0, stands for a sensors monitor / fan controller on your mainboard that may control one or several fans. Inside hwmonN, there should be a subfolder called device, which contains several interfaces if your BIOS allows software-side fan control. You can read them with cat and write to them with echo.
    Examples:
pwm1_enable shows if OS-level fan control is enabled (1) or disabled and in BIOS control (0). Changing fan speed won't work if this is disabled. (i.e. cat /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable reports 0 -> disabled; you could enable it with echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon0/device/pwm1_enable).
pwm1 allows to change fan speed. The values range from 0 (fan off) to 255 (full speed, 12V).
fan1_input shows the current RPM if a fan is connected. You can only read from this interface. Its useful to check all of these in the each of the hwmon folders to find out if there is actually a fan connected to the fan controller (they often have more ports than mainboard manufacturers use).
There might be a fan1_div, this is somehow related to how the kernel reads the RPM, I don't know how it works.
temp1_input interfaces can appeare too, if some of the chips have temperature sensors located somewhere. I *think* lm_sensors places the core temperatures it reads from CPU (the coretemp-isa-000X thingies) in one of the hwmon-folders too.
There might be interfaces for different fans in the same hwmon folder, i.e. pwm2_enable, pwm2, fan2_input, etc., all interfaces with the same index belong to the same physical fan connector, and all in the same hwmonN are managed by the same IC on your mainboard.
Warning: These interfaces, if they work, control the fans directly without any kind of security measure. If you shut some essential fan down, it will stay off until you reboot your CPU shuts down.
(If you see something likein0_alarm, in0_input, in0_max, etc. it's a voltage monitoring chip.)
If one of those interfaces can do something, OS-level fan control does work, if none of those folders contain a working pwm interface, fan control seems to be unavailable.
Sometimes there is an option in the BIOS to enable it, and for some BIOSs software-side fan control only works if dynamic fan control is disabled in the BIOS and fan speed is set to a static value - or vice versa.
I don't know what you are using to control fan speed, there are many applications that use these interfaces, i.e. GNOME or KDE power managers, so I'm not sure what is happening:
    IF: Windows 7 enables OS-level fan control and sets it the RPM to those you observed and you have nothing that provides fan control in Arch and so fan control stays at BIOS-level, which might also read out a different sensor / the same sensor differently or it might be more conservative in setting fan speeds altogether;
OR: You have something that provides fan control installed in Arch and it reads out a the wrong value supplied by lm_sensors and thus sets a higher fan speed.
Anyway, possible solutions I can think of:
Find out if you have some kind of fan control software and what it does. For example, I use the fancontrol daemon, I can't help you if you use something else.
The wiki mentions how to assign a fan speed to a certain temperature sensors. You might assign it to a different one. For example, there are no sensor chips on the mainboard of my EEE (no temp1 etc.) so I assigned the fan speed to the temperature reported by the BIOS via ACPI (those are in /sys/class/thermal, also no "device" subfolder on EEEs):
    FCTEMPS=/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/pwm1=/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
You could also change the MINTEMP/MAXTEMP values to one higher than those you actually want to compensate for the effect of lm_sensors reporting temperatures that are too high.
It is currently not possible for a mortal user to change the coretemps lm_sensors reads, see this post, last paragraph.
There is a configuration file, /etc/sensors3.conf, you can change sensor names and adjust offsets here, but only for the monitoring chips and their sensors that are on the mainboard.

  • My iphone/itunes just did the complete new update with Icloud but the icloud icon doesn't show up anywhere on the iphone or my computer even though the install said it is all done and complete.

The Itunes and Iphone just did the complete new update addiing on Icloud and new applications.  After all was done and it said all was completed - the Icloud icon is not on my iphone screen anywhere nor is it on my computer after I did go to the control panel and set up.   I tried repairing the download and it said all was fine.  What needs to be done to get this all to work.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the reply.  I did think that could be the case but then other books would also show up as apps on phone but not counted as an app.  Maybe book apps downloaded from the app store work in this way whereas books bought from the ibooks app show in ibooks and not as apps.
I guess that would make sense, it must be because they are books but downloaded from the app store rather than the book store so they are visible as an app but don't actually get counted as an app.
Would you think that's the case too?
    Thanks

  • Performing check and potential update for status control table

    Cheers Experts,
I searched in the forum, but I didn't find an answer.
    I'm working on a 3.0B BW system.
After updating from PSA to an ODS, in the log I see the following line:
"Performing check and potential update for status control table" and double clicking on it, it says:
If data is loaded into an InfoCube, or existing data is edited (aggregated/compressed/deleted/got from a DataMart), then there is a change in  the potential reportability of the data , or the possibility of deleting data by request, or of aggregating or compressing.
This status of each one of these Cubes is stored in a status table, that is updated when there is any change to the status of a request in the Cube.
The system now analyzes the requests in the Cube and compares the calculated status with the status table.
If deviations from the status table arise then you are given the option of adjusting the status table.
    I have 2 questions:
    1) What is BW doing, mainly because I'm working on an ODS and not an Infocube?
    2) What can I do to reduce its execution time, since it lasts several minutes?
    Thanks and greetings.
    Roberto

Roberto, did you ever find an answer to your question?  We also are experiencing long runtimes during this particular process running 3.x deltas from ODS to ODS and cubes.

  • IMovie 10.0.3 on OSX 10.9.4 speed controls disabled on new projects

    Hi,
Since iMovie 10.0.3 / OS X 10.9.4, the speed controls are disabled / greyed out for all clips added to new projects.
However, I can still use the speed function on existing projects created prior the upgrade.
Video Clips were shot with iPhone 5 and are imported from iPhoto.
Do anyone experience the same issue ?
And is there a workaround to this problem ?
    Thanks.

    *** update ***
This bug only applies to new projects.
I can still use the speed function on existing projects created prior the iMovie/OS X upgrade.
I've just updated iMovie to 10.0.4 but the problem remains.
Do anyone experience the same issue ?
And is there a workaround to this problem ?
I found a workaround for this issue, but it's neither convenient nor elegant. You have to duplicate and old project, created prior the last OS X update or prior the iMovie 10.0.3 or 10.0.4 upgrade, and remove all clips off the duplicated project, and there you have a clean project were all clips you'll add will be speed controls capable.
    Thanks.
