Did a corrupted (8008) iTunes video corrupt my entire iPod (80 GB classic)?

I've had a black 80 GB iPod since around the time it was first released (January 2007). Until about 6 months ago, I never had any problems with it - I could download songs, TV shows, movies, and games without experiencing any problems.
About 6 months ago, when downloading a TV show season package, I received a message on one of the episodes that I'd never seen before, error 8008 (which told me that the file was corrupted and could not be downloaded). After some unproductive back-and-forth with a representative, I gave up on the episode and deleted the file from my computer hard drive completely. Of note, even though I'd given up on the episode and removed it from my iTunes download list, it appeared on my iTunes download list randomly last week and there were no problems with the download.
But ever since the original incident 6 months ago (when I received the 8008 error message), my iPod has turned on me. Videos that I have downloaded since then (both movies and TV shows) will suddenly freeze and the iPod itself will start making this noise - kind of like a computer when it's "thinking" - and I can feel the iPod churning in my hand. This is usually accompanied by a harsh loud scratching and "bleeping" noise on the audio, and the screen goes black. On some videos, I have been able to fast-forward for several seconds and then it returns to normal. On some of these videos, I have to fast-forward several times during the video because it will happen more than once. And some videos I simply cannot watch because the iPod will not permit me to fast forward over the corrupted segments. It takes a lot of effort and many attempts at resetting before the iPod will become "unstuck." Songs and albums I've downloaded also have minor "skips" in certain places as well (kind of like a CD with a tiny scratch) but this is not as frustrating as the TV shows and movies ... a "skip" here or there is nothing compared to paying $15.99 for a movie you cannot watch!
Edited to add: None of the videos I downloaded before receiving the 8008 error have had any problems since the 8008 error appeared. I can still watch them all just as before. No skipping, no freezing, nothing. It is only videos I've downloaded since then that have had these issues.
Oh, also after the 8008 error, I began seeing a white screen I'd never seen before after turning on my iPod telling me that my iPod needed to be restored. I had never seen such a message before. Again, I followed all of the steps that Apple suggested; it kept happening anyway. I saw this message for about 4 months, but I haven't seen it since.
Currently, I have 31.80 GB free on my iPod. I have never "overloaded" my iPod and have never had less than 20 GB free at a time. I've never dropped my iPod; I keep it in a protected plastic case; I update the iTunes software every time it is available; I am not using Genius; I have never imported a video or a CD that was NOT from iTunes into my library - after my library was erased when I upgraded from the earlier version to the 80 GB model, I didn't feel like uploading my CDs all over again, so this cannot possibly be an issue related to getting a "virus" from downloading movies from the Internet.
Is my iPod corrupted forever? Will it always be a guessing game from now on as to whether a video I've downloaded will be perfectly fine or whether it will skip and freeze and not permit me to watch it? (In which case, iTunes certainly doesn't return money, as the download on their end was "successful.") How do I go about fixing this problem when the iPod - while in perfect condition otherwise because I've kept such good care of it - is no longer under warranty?

Also, if there's a better place to post this question, please let me know how to post it elsewhere. I tried to do so but I suppose I'm not permitted to double post in different forums?

How can I convert Itunes video albums tracks to ipod tracks?

3pg is an odd format... That or I just never seen it before. :P
iTunes just ***** at converting videos. So far all videos I tried converting with iTunes have resulted in the same error you got.
You're better-off using 3rd party apps, and then copying to iTunes, and then copying to the iPod.
Unfortunately I don't know of any conversion programs for Windows.
If you by chance have a mac, this program works great: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flv2itunes.html
The mac version of Handbrake below works great, hopefully the Windows version does, too:
    http://handbrake.fr/?article=download
When converting with handbrake, make sure to use the iPod preset for the out-put video.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Sound is gone for iTune videos that convert to iPod

I have a problem. I load movies into iTunes, and they work. But as soon as I convert them for iPod, the sound is gone. It's not just one file, its all of them. Something must be wrong with iTunes cause I know more than that should work.

You can always contact tech support: http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Do any videos play correctly in iTunes? If there is a problem with iTunes playing all videos this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706 may help
Videos that did not come from the iTunes store are going to be harder to troubleshoot because there are many ways the video's could have been created. Another article that has good information on video conversion for the iPod is: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302892

  • I have a ipod classic which i purchased 2007,can i use the new apple tv dock to play my itunes video clips via my ipod classic to view on my tv

hi there, i have a ipod classic purchased in 2007,with the release of the new Apple TV dock in Australia,my question to anyone out there including apple suooort staff,CAN I USE THIS NEW DEVICE TO VIEW MY VIDEO CLIPS I DOWN LOADED FROM ITUNES ON MY TV INSTEAD OF BUYING THE APPLE COMPONANT CABLES....THANKS  EDWARD

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer.  How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.

  • I did the restore through Itunes and it still says Ipod disabled - Any other suggestions?

I did the restore on my Ipod through I Tunes and it still says it is disabled - Any other suggestions?

If you are talking about the screen-lock passcode, thate means that the restore never successfully completed.
Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • Purchased a tv episode and won't download keep getting Error 8008. iTunes tells me its corrupt and need to redownload it, but everytime I do the error shows up...grrr..what do i do to make it download

Purchased a T.V episode and won't download. I keep getting Error 8008. iTunes just keeps telling me its corrupt and I need to go redownload it, but everytime I try to it just pops up with the Error 8008 message again.. How do I get the episode to download all the way.

Clear the contents of ...iTunes\iTunes Media\Download and try one more time.
If the problem recurs use the "report a problem" links in your account history and explain what has happened so far. There may be a problem with the source rather than your download of it.

  • Did something change with the video formats in iTunes 10.5?

    Good afternoon,
Since updating to iTunes 10.5, I've found that I can't sync any videos (whether they be TV Shows, Films or Video Podcasts) to my iPod. I've tried various different methods of trying to fix this but every time I do I get given the error message "Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "xxxxx", were not copied to the iPod "xxxxx" because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Now, any of the videos added prior to iTunes 10.5 still work and I can sync them to my iPod without a problem and still play them from there, but anything since then it's just been throwing out the error. I have a 16GB iPod Nano with the latest software version (1.0.2), running off Windows XP SP3, and all Apple software I use is up-to-date.
Please can anyone give me any hints or help in solving this problem?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I think you do not understand, this is all in iTunes under windows.
Here I have a few screens of the problem.
Here is my iTunes video list
Here is me looking at the info of a video in the iTunes library
Here is a list of videos on my iPhone
And here is the info for a video that is on the iPhone
As you can see after the video has been transferred the artwork tab and the artwork it self disappears.

  • How to delete corrupted files on ipod classic

Somehow the "index" of files on my Ipod Classic HD got corrupted so none of my music, video, etc files showed up on the Ipod.  The library, and all the files, would display in Itunes so I followed the instructions and copied them over to an external HD.  Then, when I synced the Ipod, about 1/3 of my available HD on the Ipod shows up as yellow in the space available indicator.  Fortunately I had enough capacity to re-sync....just with very little free space on the HD afterward
    My question is:
Should I reset the Ipod and then copy the library media folder from the external HD back to my PC?....and then sync?  Will that get rid of the corrupted files so I regain the capacity on the Ipod HD?
    Thanks for any help

    Hi arakis,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
In this situation I would restore your iPod back to factory settings and then sync the music back onto it. It shouldn’t matter if the music is located on the computer hard drive or an external hard drive, as long as the iTunes Media Folder is pointed to the correct location to access the music from iTunes. The first article below explains the process of restoring your iPod back to factory settings and the second article shows the location (and how to change the location) of the iTunes Media Folder.

  • Corrupt and Frozen ipod classic

    hi,
I have an i pod classic 120 gb its not even a week old and ive got about 11 gb of music on it, no video and no pictures. When i wanted to sync it with my itunes the screan froze on the ipod and now i can't do anything, itunes says that the ipod might be corrupt. Help me, what can i do?

I have tried this and continue to have to reset my ipod every time I connect to USB. The ipod completely freezes and I am left resetting the ipod then itunes recognizes it. Please note that itunes works fine while the ipod is frozen. I have restored the ipod and still have an issue. I have left it connected for longer than 10 hours and it stays frozen...I have 149GB of music on it...any help would be appreciated (reset is terribly annoying)

  • I am on Windows XP. Updated to latest iTunes but it would not install. Tried again and the system hung. I did a restart and iTunes had completely vanished from my system. Tried to do a new install but it won't finalise. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I am on Windows XP. Updated to latest iTunes but it would not install. Tried again and the system hung. I did a restart and iTunes had completely vanished from my system. Tried to do a new install but it won't finalise. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
