Did anyone manage to connect to a 802.11b network?

My MBP won't connect to my 802.11b router wirelessly.
It gets an IP, but the broadcasts it sends are not responded by the router or any other computer on the network.
The most likely option is, that the MBP broadcast in a "g" only mode, regardless of the fact that it should be "b/g" compatible.
My airport card firmware is 0.1.17
I wonder if anyone else can connect to a "b" router. I know that almost everyone has "g" noadays, but I don't and it bugs me that I'll have to get a new one.

Well, off course I tried all the security/no-security options the router supports. Won't work even without security.
I repeat: the Mac connects with IP (real) and all. It says it's connected, it also appears on the list of wireless connection on the router - but the transmissions the Mac sends (and it sends a lot) are not responded.
A friend of mine, a system guy, who tried to check this, said that the Mac's transmissions don't even look like "b" transmission - they are longer (or something of that sort).
The thing is: If I knew a way to enter the wireless card driver configuration, it probably would solve it. and I don't mean through the system preferences - there's nothing serious there.
On a PC it is so easy: you simply tell the card to work in a b/g mode, rather then a g only mode.

  • Problems with 802.11b networks

My MBP did not connect to my 802.11b home network as all my PCs do. So I upgraded to an 802.11g access point and now all the computers are talking to each other and the Internet.
But the MBP will not connect to ANY 802.11b network. I have tried several and no go!! All are unencrypted so no WEP issues. Am I missing something with the MBP or is there something wrong with the software. The configuration test window shows a strong signal and green indications for the top three lights (802.11b stuff) while turning red for the bottom three (actual connection related stuff).
I am a returning Mac user after 20 yrs with the PC, but this is very frustrating.
    Thanks for your help

I've connected to 802.11b networks with no problem so it isn't a general problem.
I'm not clear on what software you are using. What software shows red and green status indicators?

  • Anyone managed to connect an HP Photosmart B110a P...

I have a Photosmart B110a printer that refuses to connect.
After entering all network information SSID and wireless key, the printer attempts connection then you get a blue screen on the printer panel with error code B8126AD6, you then get a printer error then you are asked to switch off & switch on the printer. You are then in a loop!
Have tried the USB to wireless function on my PC but get the same error.
Anyone managed to connect one of these?

this time got a professional to try to set it up, he failed,  felt a bit better for that , but still got no wi fi connection.  he thinks you can only use a USB wired printer on a BT hub. BA!!! TO BT.
Some professional you used, that's total rubbish. I use a different model HP printer (Photosmart C4380) and it connects wirelessly on the BT hub 2 without any issues (other than the often **bleep** HP software but that's another story!).
Try the solution on the link below (note, I just found this by googling the error code quoted, there seem to be other links you can try if this one doesn't work)

You guys have DDL now, I think you should also pay for DTS. What reason would there to upgrade? I am taking my hats off to creative lately, they have really stepped up their game. I just hope and pray that they keep up with regular driver release now.

  • Why won't my iPad 2 connect to my 802.11g network?

    Hello everyone,
Today I received an iPad 2 as a gift.  It is the first Apple product I have ever owned.  I spent about 3 hours this morning trying to get it to turn on -- it kept displaying an image of a USB cord so I connected it to my computer.  Still the iPad would not display its desktop.  Finally, I learned that the iPad had to be connected to a PC running Windows (instead of the Centos 5 Linux system that I use).  Additionally iTunes had to be installed.  I find it extremely bizaare to require the device to connect to a computer before being able to turn it on.
Now after getting the device to boot, I am attempting to connect to my home wireless network.  Thus far it appears this is going to be Strike Two for me and the iPad 2.  My wifi network is 802.11g using WPA2-AES and 128 bit key.  The iPad 2 recognizes the presence of my network (the SSID appears in the listing when it prompts me to connect), however, when I supply the 128bit key to connect, the iPad 2 reports that it is unable to connect.
I went into the Network configuration in the General Settings and attempted to add the network manually (ensuring I could specify WPA2 as the encryption type).  Same failure.
Any hints on getting this thing to connect to my network?  I've already watered the security down to 128bit encryption (from 256bit).  All the other devices in my home are able to connect without issue.  The iPad 2 detects a strong signal from the router.
    Thanks,
    Josh

I appreciate everyone that responded with the intent of helping me solve the issue.  This forum is weird -- there are many users that try to help with iPad2 issues and then there are many that mock me and say I should just return it for expecting this very expensive device to just work.
After a late night of debugging with Wireshark, I finally tracked down the problem (Apple, feel free to send me a cheque for my services)
I will post the solution here for those who desire to use an 802.11x security protocol that has not yet been compromised (WPA2-AES).
When you attempt to join a wireless network, the iPad asks for the password.  If this password contains any characters other than 0-9, A-F (hexadecimal), WPA states that Password Based Key Derivation Function 2 (RSA Security, PKCS #5) must be used to calculate the pre-shared key.  If however, the password contains only hexadecimal characters, then that value *is* the key to be used (e.g. do not run the PBKDF2 function)
I specify my network keys in hex both in my router and my devices.  This means the devices nor the router need to invoke PBKDF2.
The key I specified in my router was entered using upper case hexadecimal letters (e.g. A, B, C, D, E, F) whereas the key I entered on the iPad 2 was entered using lower case hexadecimal letters (e.g. a, b, c, d, e, f).  Since I am specifying a key, the uppercase and lower case hexadecimal values have the same binary represention -- meaning they are identical.  The iPad, however, does not treat them as identical and therefore attemps to connect using an invalid pre-shared key (my guess is it is running PBKDF2 when it shouldn't be -- but I don't care enough to troubleshoot it any further)
In summary, this issue will only affect those of us that specify our pre-shared keys explicitly (via hexadecimal) in the router.  As a workaround, make sure you enter the hexadecimal key using only lower case letters (a-f) when you set the key in the router and use lower case letters (default) when entering the key on the iPad 2.
After doing so, iPad 2 can connect as can the other 20 devices I own that followed the WPA specification in the first place.

  • I have a dualband Airport Express. Why is my Macbook air default connecting to the 802.11g network instead of the n one?

I'm using a dualband Airport Express:
    http://www.apple.com/airport-express/specs/
Recently, I've noticed that my wi-fi speeds vary alot. I went into About this Mac---> System info -----> system report and went to wi-fi. Turns out it says my current configuration is on the 802.11g network. Under other connections, it lists my identical wi-fi as 802.11n.
How can i make it connect to the 802.11n connection by default?
    Much appreciated,

G-band networks generally will have a stronger signal than n-band.
Tell it to ignore the g network and only connect to the N-band network.
Open Network System Prefs, select WiFi, and click Advanced...
    Click on the WiFi tab.
Find you g-band network in the list and delete it.
Check the box to Remember networks this computer has joined.

  • Did you replace your older AE Base (802.11b/g) with a new AE Base 802.11n?

I am having issues with my iPad maintaining a stable connection to my older Airport Extreme base station. I have the latest 5.7 firmware, and all my other mac computers have no issues, but the iPad's wifi connection is up and down and all over the place. Example, I was sitting near my iMac which had an 8 meg signal on speedtest, and my iPad was a foot away with less than 1 meg. Then about 20 minutes later it went to 5 meg, then later it dropped to almost zero. Meanwhile the other computers have no issues.
Will upgrading to the new AE base station have any positive effect on my iPad?
    Thanks
    Len

One more thing... when I am in the Airport Utility setup, do I have to do anything to designate my Time Capsule as "N" or does it do this automatically?
    And is this line bull:
    "Note:
If you’re using Time Capsule as a client on an existing Wi-Fi network, it’s
recommended that the existing network is an 802.11n network."
    from the User's Guide?

  • New Mac connection to Linksys 802.11g network

Help...I bought my daughter a 20inch MAC for Christmas and I still haven't been able to connect it to my Wireless network, a Linksys 802.11g basestation. I have even tried to remove all security from the Linksys, but trying to configure the MAC, it always asks for a password to access the wireless network. I don't even know what password is.
Any help to guide me thru this??

    Hi there,
Almost all home based wireless services will require both an EESID and WEP KEY. It's a way to have a relatively secure connection to the internet using wireless. The EESID is sometmes known as the Serial Number of the Wireless Router. In fact, your can find the EESID and WEP KEY (aka Password) right on the router itself. Look on your router for these 2 items. You might also have to configure router through the internet to work with your current modem. You Should have gotten insturctions.
Your iMac will require, in most instances, both the EESID and WEB KEY. If you find the WEB KEY try using that for the password. The password can also be referring to your ISP account password...
    Good luck, Rick

  • How to connect SPT 1700 to 802.11b network?

I know this is an old (obsolete by most standards) device, but still...
The ads for it that I have seen, claim that it is wireless capable with 802.11b abilities. I have looked through it, but I couldn't figure out how to set it up to access a wireless network.
Can someone, first of all, either confirm or deny the claim that it is 802.11b capable and, if so, how do I set it up?
    Thanks...

  • Did anyone have issue connecting iphone to computer

When I try to connect my iphone to the computer, it shuts my computer down. However when I connect my ipod, I don't have any problems. I called the apple solution center and they told me uninstall itunes and re-install it. I did it and still had the same problem.  So they said it was my driver however, the ipod shows up so it can't be my driver.

    Thanks for your suggestion.
I have uninstalled & reinstalled the webcam drivers (and other Creative software), and upgraded to the latest drivers/software for it, and unfortunately the problem is still occurring.
Does anyone have any further suggestions?

  • Did anyone manage to read DLT with Ratoc FR1SX?

    Hi guys.
This week I got the Ratoc Firewire to SCSI adapter and hooked up my DLT4000 machine.
DVD SP (and every other relavant application I tried) worked perfectly to write the tapes with this adapter. Even dual layer projects, with the historically traumatic tape switching moment.
However, none of the applications (including DVD SP) could read back from the DLT tapes. The error messages were all different. But it doesn't work. And reading DLT doesn't work either when booting in Win XP.
From a search I just did, apparently nobody here ever got the Ratoc adapter to read DLT (bad, but not the end of the world, considering that some other authoring apps can write but don't have an option to read DLT!).
I wonder if the FR1SX configuration utility has some obscure checkbox or setting that will make it able to read DLT? Perhaps somebody found this magical setting?

    Hi,
it's very interesting that the Ratoc works with your setup, which version of DVDSP are you running?
I am planning a similar setup (I have a Quantum 4000 too) and was wrecking my brains trying to fit in the DLT drive. If your DVDSP is v.4.x it would be great news. Have you had your DLT tape tested by the replication plant to make sure it is written ok?
    Please let me know.
PS. Sorry I can't help with your reading-back issue, but does it really matter? Being able to write/format to DLT reliably without a SCSI card is alone an achievement!

  • Has anyone managed to connect an encrypted hard drive to airport extreme?

I am using Hitachi 4TB drive formatted to Apple Encrypted format, requiring password.
The drive works fine on my MACs, when connecting it direclty via USB3 cable.
However, the drive cannot be configured using Airport Utility. The Partion remains invisble, despite me entering the encryption password into it...
My airtport extreme has the lastest firmware 7.7.2
    Any ideas?

Yes there have been several posts about it here. HP does not have the caddy and connector you need but you can get it at www.newmodeus.com.

  • S8-50 Tablet connects only to 802.11g networks not 802.11n

My S8-50 table will only connect at 802.11g speeds to any wi-fi network. I tested this with multiple routers and the tablet will not connect at all if the router is set to 802.11n only mode. The wi-fi networks were using WPA2 AES/CCMP at the authentication method. The S8-50 wi-if adapter is listed as 802.11bgn so it should connect at 11n. Has anyone else run into this issue and is there a way to fix it?

If you are referring to the fact that it's not connecting to a 5GHz network it won't as the WiFi module is not a DUAL one ... It will connect to bgn networks but only in 2.4 GHz band.
