Did Apple entirely drop old models of the Ipod Touch?

For example, the second generation and first generation?  I just got my second generation but none of the apps are working.  Does this mean its pointless to have and I should just throw it away?  I just find it rather pointless than, I know its an electronic and most are like this but the fact that they are refusing to give the update to this model makes it a bit different right?  In electronics, most of the reason is that the older computers or something can't handle the newer style games due to its requirements but it can still play the same of its age.  It seems as though Apple is forcing you to throw it away because they remove the app entirely from being downloaded for older models.

The main reason Apple doesn't support is bcause, while, it really can't if it wants to continue to make better operating systems for iOS devices, the hardware in 1st and 2nd gen. iPods is quite dated, so if apple did make the ne OS compatible with your iPod, they would also be holding back some who just purchased say, and iPhone 5, and in relation regarding not being able to play newer games, thats more of the companies that made the games choice. They have to decide when making a game, how advanced they want to make a game, and since most models of iOS games are new, they just make it as best as it can be, leaving old devices behind. For example, my iPOd touch 3rd gen. can play the new game "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" but at times it takes a while to load; so they do make the games avalible as long as possible. In regards to it being useless, its not entirely, in regards to the apple world, yes, you can't do much, however if you view jailbreaking as a ptential idea, it opens a whole new world, or you can use it for simple tasks like email, web, calendars, or music. It's up to you.
