Did Apple really duplicate data/serial numbers?

After my IPad stopped connecting to the cellular data network I called Verizon.  I talked to several Verizon customer service reps, store personnel and the fraud group and learned that someone else was now registered as the owner of my IPad. I heard this morning from Verizon that Apple duplicated data numbers.  Now I have to exchange my iPad in the Verizon store (hopefully they have one).  Has anyone else experienced this?

A small number of people have experienced it:

  • Why do Apple not register the serial numbers of stolen Apple Products?

My 3 month old 4gb iPod Nano was stolen today at the airport
As there is a small possibility of someone contacting Apple for support with a stolen product and according to http://www.stolenipods.com "Apple's iTunes software records the serial number of the last connected iPod",
so why do Apple not register the serial number of stolen products?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If Apple do not regsiter serial numbers why do
they ask for it in every form of support e.g. email,
phone calls etc. - to waste time or to enter it in
    their customer records?
Read Chris' post again, please. They DO record
serial numbers when you register your iPod for
    repair/service/warranty purposes.
They DO NOT release this information to anyone.
HP are not the Police either!!
HP is also not Apple. HP might have different
    policies.
If you've filed your police report... then you've
done the best you can already.
We understand you are bitter... but please do not
take your anger out on Apple or anyone on these
forums. It is not Apple's responsibility to track
    down lost or stolen goods.

I disagree. I feel that if the technology and systems are already in place and easily implemented, Apple have a responsiblility to their CUSTOMERS, many of whom are extremely loyal to the brand, to faciliate the locating of registered (and not inexpensive)products. Or, at the very least discouraging the theft of products that can be traced.

  • Hands free Siri - Did Apple really make this mistake?

So you want to make a phone call using Siri hands free in iOS8.  You tell it who to call and it initiates the call, but guess what?  The speakerphone is not activated.  So much for hands free calling.

    koco82 wrote:
This is just the reason thy I got to this forum. I wanted to make a suggestion:
It isn't really hands-free if I, after telling Siri to place a call, need to take the phone in my hand, or need to have headphones on while it is also connected to power supply.
It would be nice if Siri would understand a command like "Hey Siri! Call my girlfriend on speaker!".
So when the iPhone is connected to power supply and the "Hey Siri" function is enabled, the priority order (at least for outgoing calls) should automatically be speaker, bluetooth, headphones, phone (most hands-free to least hands-free).
The infrared sensor could be used to switch automatically from speaker to phone when the device is picked up and put to the ear.
Make the suggestion to Apple feedback

Why can't we track serial numbers and not the apple iD.   Since serial numbers can't be reset or erased. ?

Unfortunately it is in both Apple's and your carrier's economic interest to not provide such a feature. One would think that with all the technological capabilities that apple has provided us with that they would be able to do this as well. That's the point here, they are able to do it, probably quite easily; but it's economically beneficial to them if they don't. Remember, Apple doesn't provide the find my iPhone app as a pre-downloaded application, you have to do so yourself. One may say this is for privacy reasons, but there are clearly other reasons as well. So, Apple has no incentive to add such a feature unless it becomes an issue (customers demanding it or other companies providing such a feature). Thus as consumers we need to make this an issue that apple must address. I too lost my iPhone. The fact that Apple doesn't provide a feature such as allowing one to "flag" their device as stolen and thereby preventing that device from being unlocked, reset in itunes, or immediately turned into a tracking device when turned on is pretty frustrating and ridiculous. Apple provides very limited functions in their native find my iPhone app, and yet there are many more features it could provide. I'm aware of apps that provide far more capability, such as preventing shut down, taking pictures, taking audio/video recordings, remote backup, photo capture after failed unlock, call log, sms forwarding, and even constant GPS tracking. My point here is this, Apple can easily provide features that would further enable you to recover your apple device but there isn't an incentive to and there is actually economic incentive to not provide such features. We need to provide them with the incentive to do so, or else it is likely to never happen.

  • Trouble with Excel serial numbers to Dates

    Hi,
I am new to Numbers V3 (latest) but know Excel and Open Office
I have converted an Open Office worksheet to an Excel .xls which was then opened in Numbers.
The dates entered on the OO and Excel sheets appear in date format correctly and I then calculate the length (of rental) from 2 dates.
In Numbers the cells now contain the date serial numbers but I cannot get a date to appear. Frustrating!
I have opened format and tried to change the format of one cell to "date". Nothing happens.
My first thought is that I am not doing the formatting correctly. I click on the brush, open the window, change Data Format to Date and Time.... Then how do I accept this? I see no "Done" button so I just close the window by clicking the brush again and nothing changes. When I reopen the format window it still shows my data as a number. However if I change say the "Fill colour" section underneath, when I close format it changes the cell colour.
This happens in the cell I imported AND in a new cell in a new column.
I notice that if in the same cell I enter 20/11/2013 the Format box shows "Date and Time". If I then enter a number the Format box changes to "Number" so it is perhaps not here that I change the format.
    What am I missing?
    Henry

    Henry,
Simply stated, Numbers doesn't recognize date serial numbers. Your input will have to be in a form that looks like a date to a human.
If an input looks like a number, that's how Numbers will treat it.

  • MacOSXServer Serial Numbers

I am the AppleAmbassador for a Mac User Group. Our User Group meets in a church which has recently switched from PeeCees to Macs. They replaced an old Compac Server with 36 GB!! of disk space with a G5iMac. The deacon in charge of the IT department is a member of our MUG. I had a copy of MacOSX Tiger Server in a recent Mailbox, and we installed that on the iMacG5 Server. We hoped we could learn how to make use of it and benefit the MUG more than letting the disk rot on my bookshelf.
I got a call this morning saying "The MacOSX Server serial number has expired. What can we do about it?"
Any suggestions? Any help will be appreciated

    Greetings.
Depending on your needs & usage, the iMac G5 should do fine, but please do keep in mind that in no way is it "server" rated hardware.
Servers are rated for continuous use and the iMac is not. However, it should do fine for very light load and learning about OS X Server.
Now then, you haven't told us enough about how that copy of OS X Server showed up in your mailbox. Did someone purchase it ?
Serial numbers for commercial (boxed) copies of OS X Server never expire, period.
So I'm guessing you were given a demo and (for example) Apple reps may be allowed to distribute it. There are other legitimate avenuse, but that's neither here nor there. What matters is, contact the person that gave it to you (if it was a demo) and ask for a newer demo that is not yet expired.
If OS X Server was purchased & installed with a regular (non-demo) serial number, then your first stop should be to put in a call to Apple. They should know about it and you should get official help

  • How to give Serial numbers

    Hi Seth,
My problem is..I do not want to activate "Batch management" but i would like to allocate number for my material during GR.. Thanks

    Hi,
Yes it is possible to assign serial number at the time of GR.
Pls find the details for Serial Number Assignment while GR as below :
Assigning Serial Numbers at Goods Receipt
    Use
When carrying out the final backflush, a specific serial number is assigned to materials which require a serial number.
You can only assign serial numbers to assemblies, not to the individual components of an assembly.
    Prerequisites :
1.You must have defined that the material requires a serial number by selecting the serial number profile in the material master record (sales view).
In Customizing for Sales and Distribution, you must define how the serial number is to be assigned in the serial number profile for the serialization procedure PPSF (Serial Numbers in Repetitive Manufacturing):
    Automatic
    Mandatory entry
    Optional entry
    Features
When backflushing a material that is to be assigned a serial number, the following functions are carried out depending on the settings in Customizing:
    *Assigning serial numbers automatically :
In this setting, the serial number is automatically assigned by the system in the final backflush using the settings in the serial number profile.
Serial numbers as a mandatory entry :
With this setting, when saving the final backflush, the system displays the dialog box entitled Maintain Serial Numbers where you have to enter a serial number. The goods receipt cannot be posted if you do not enter a serial number.
Here, you can enter a serial number manually or you can instruct the system to search for the next free serial number and assign it to the material. In this case, choose Create serial no. automatically.
Serial numbers as an optional entry :
With this setting, when saving the final backflush, the system displays the dialog box entitled Maintain Serial Numbers where you can enter a serial number.
Here, you can enter a serial number manually or you can instruct the system to search for the next free serial number and assign it to the material. In this case, choose Create serial no. automatically.
    Activities :
Displaying serial number per material document
The serial numbers are recorded in the material documents. You can check the serial number assignment in the backflush document log.
In the SAP menu, choose Logistics ® Production ® Repetitive manufacturing ® Evaluations ® Display backflush documents.
Enter the selection criteria and choose Execute.
The system displays a list of the backflushing logs.
    Double-click the required document number.
The system accesses the overview display of the document.
Access the detailed display by choosing Details fm.item and then entering the appropriate item number.
The system accesses the details display.
In the detailed display, choose, Goto ® Serial number.
The system displays the dialog box, Display Serial Number.
    Displaying and changing serial numbers:
Starting from the main Repetitive Manufacturing menu, you can display, or change a certain serial number. In the SAP menu, choose Logistics ® Production ® Repetitive manufacturing ® Master data ® Serial numbers ® Display or Change.
Creating, displaying, and changing serial numbers collectively :
Starting from the main Repetitive Manufacturing menu, you can create, display or change serial numbers collectively. To do this, choose Logistics ® Production ® Repetitive manufacturing ® Master data ® Serial numbers ® List editing ® Create or change or display.
    Hope this helps.
Revert if any doubt and reward if useful.

  • Did Apple sell me a used iPhone?

Hi. Everything was in Spanish when I first turned on my iPhone. It said the iPhone belonged to some Spanish name but I changed it to my name.
[email protected] that's the email that's already been typed in my Game Center.
Is this default? Or did apple really sell me a used iPhone? Please tell me soon, I've had the phone for 8 days and if it is used I have to return it.. Thank you

If you bought the device from an Apple Retail Store and didn't buy a discounted refurbished device, then no they didn't.
If you bought it from a third party electronics store or a wireless carrier store (like T-Mobile), then it is a possibility that that third party did sell you a used phone.

  • Since Apple's data base has been accessed by burglars, why can't Apple track serial numbers?

If Apple's data base is accessed by people  like this, why can't the same data base be used to track ownership?  MOst Apple users sign on to itunes and share their system information.  Would it not make sense to share the serial numbers with a reporting system?
If I call into the local Apple store, will I receive any support in locating my systems or will they want to sell me an app to track them?
The data is available for Apple to promote an independent recovery sytem...why don't they?  Is there no money in it?
    <Edited By Host>

why can't the local Apple store access the national data base and find out where it was being serviced.
They can do that now, if the system is at an authorized service center. It's highly unlikely that a stolen system would just happen to have been checked into a service center at the time you happen to look, though. I also doubt that Apple would provide that information to you just on your request.
As to the report you are referencing, is it coinicidence homes with multiple Apple systems were targeted?  In my neighborhood, only homes with more than two Imacs were hit...and only Apple systems were taken.
Such information would not be available to any burglar, nor has there been even a rumor that Apple's internal customer databases have every been compromised. So yes, it was either coincidence or the burglars casing the premises, not at all hard to do. It's even often possible by doing a scan of someone's WiFi network; few people have theirs adequately secured.
Apple is not law enforcement. It's not their job to try and track stolen property; that's the job for the police. There's nothing further to be said.

  • Does Apple duplicate serial numbers

I am just trying to confirm that Apple does not duplicate serial numbers for any of their products.  Specifically IPod Touch.  Is anyone able to confirm this?

I have an uncle that works for apple that may have some info for you as long as the information isn't being used for police business...

  • Serial numbers for availabel stock at a specified date

    Dear all,
does anyone know how to get the serial numbers that correspond to the available stock of a material in a specific plant and storage location at a specified date? Is there a bapi, a function module or a class that can do this?
For example, lets say we have the serialized material A and the available stock of the material A in the plant 1000 and storage location 0001 on 15-10-2009 (which is not the current date, but can be any date in the past) is 5 pieces. Can we find the 5 corresponding serial numbers of the material and how?
    Looking forward to your replies.
    Best regards,
    George

    Hello,
From initial reading, looks like MB5B can help you.
Please check the transaction & revert back.

  • HT2905 Did Apple remove the Find Duplicates feature in iTunes 11?

Did Apple remove the Find Duplicates feature in iTunes 11? I don't see it in the File menu any more.

Apple says it will come back in a future update, but no time frame has been given. For now, you'll need to either find them manually or use a third-party script or utility such as Dupin.
    Regards.
