Did Firefox 5 drop the ability to display RSS feeds?

With previous versions of firefox, i could load an rss feed and it would display in the main window, nicely parsed and styled. this functionality seems to have disappeared in firefox 5. load an RSS feed such as http://feeds.nytimes.com/nyt/rss/HomePage and you get an opportunity to create a live bookmark, but the rss/xml is not displayed in the main window. "live bookmarks" still work, but i'd like to see the firefox display the RSS natively without an RSS-reader plugin. Has this feature been intentionally dropped, or is this a bug? or am i missing something?

The button was not used by most people so Mozilla moved it off the location bar.
* You can use it from within the Bookmarks Menu
* You can restore the button to a toolbar through customize
: View ("Alt+V") > Toolbars > Customize > drag icon to a toolbar
See item #9 for a some additional information and other items for additional customization changes.
You can make Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]

  • Can I configure firefox to download the content of my RSS feeds rather than display it?

With IE, I am able to have the actual contents of my RSS feed downloaded to my PC. I'm not seeing how I can do that with Firefox. If it's possible, can someone let me know how I can do it? Thanks.

    Hi jenmek,
You used to be able to add "/rss" to the end and bookmark the feed as a live bookmark.
However if this does not pop up the rss reader, where it asks you if you want to subscribe there is also a few add ons you can add to the Firefox profile to organize RSS feeds: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=rss+live+bookmark&appver=36.0&platform=all]

I have set the CustWiz/MST to  'Disable and Lock' the ability to display PDFs in the browser.  We want  them to open separately in Acrobat.  After I deploy, the setting IS  disabled and locked, but when you click a PDF in the browser, it STILL  opens in the browser, and not in Acrobat.
I am pushing  Acrobat onto machines that already have Acrobat Standard 9 installed  with the same settings.  It worked properly then.
What is causing this setting to be ignored?  How can I fix it?  It's delaying my deployment.
I have to deploy Acrobat 9 due to the bug I discovered here:

This is getting a little irritating...

Thank you for the answer about updating the Foxit plugin. Firefox tags the Foxit plugin as potentially unstable, so it turns out I had another program killing the plugin's startup process so it was always disabled in firefox. I reenabled its startup process and updated the plugin. To get firefox to use it as the main pdf reader I went to options>applications and changed the option for pdf to the foxit plugin and everything works dandy now! Thanks again!

  • HAVi Widget to display RSS feeds using Nanoxml parser

I have got an assignment of developing a HAVi widget to display RSS feeds using the NanoXML parser. I am a beginner in JAVA tv concepts and is stuck with this problem on how to start!
    Can please someone help?

Havi widgets are lightweight components. You could start by creating a Havi widget extending HComponent and overriding paint method. For the initial urpose, try using some dummy text to fill in your widget. You can later experimenting with the XML parser and query it to dislay the actual text you would want to (remember to get rid o the dummy text).

  • My podcast isn't updating in iTunes despite the fact that my RSS feed is updating just fine. Help?

I posted an episode about a week and a bit ago. It was viewable on the RSS feed but not on iTunes. After a week went by I tried reposting it plus the next day I posted another new episode as a test. Neither appeared in the podcast.
My RSS feed seems fine. Does anyone know what's going on?

    Hi Jacolli,
I have recommended Libsyn.com for the past 7 Plus years.  I have worked for them for the past 5 years - so I am a little biased.  But again I was recommending them before I worked for them.
Libsyn is the largest podcast host.  90% of the top audio comedy podcast host with libsyn.  And any given week 30 to 50% of the top audio podcast in iTunes top 200 list are podcasts using libsyn.
If you are using Feedburner - switching is simple.  We can import in your files from your source feed - and then you can just repoint feedburner to the new libsyn feed.  Then going forward all you have to do is upload a file - enter a title and description and hit publish - it is that easy.

  • With my new computer with win 7, why did my 990cse lose the ability to print banner?

I have kept an HP 990cse solely to print genealogy charts in a banner format. My old computer crashed and I purchased a new one with windows 7 (formerly Win XP). The driver that was downloaded does not have the ability to print these banner charts. Is there another driver I can download to restore this ability

You might try the following:  install the HP Deskjet 5550 (HPA) (HP) driver using Add a Printer, select the same post the Deskjet 990cse is on.  Click on Windows Update when the list of printers comes up, then select the HP version of the Deskjet 5550 driver.
This should be compatibel with the Deskjet 990, at least for the basic printing.  Banner paper is available as an option.  Print modes such as some of the photo print modes or automatic paper type selection for the Deskjet 5550 will not likely work, but draft, normal and best modes with specific paper type selected should work.

  • Firefox changes the url of my RSS feed. How do I fix this?

It changes the URL from http://www.vict-consultancy.co.uk/rss_feed.rss to feed://www.vict-consultancy.co.uk. The result is the xml code is shown as text on the web page http://www.vict-consultancy.co.uk/rss_feed.rss
The RSS feed seems to be working properly in other browsers (IE, Safari, Opera), it's only Firefox that is doing this.

This is only a problem if you open the feed link directly in the location bar.
If a feed is added via a link tag in the page code then it should work as you can via the above posted code.<br />
Firefox 13 doesn't have the "subscribe to this page" icon on the Navigation Toolbar by default, so you would have to add it yourself to easily discover live feeds.

  • Display RSS feed from external site on my page

    HI,
I need to know if it is possible with CFMX7 to grab rss feeds
from a remote location and just display it on my site?
    How to?

well, cf8 has a new <cffeed> tag... and though i have
    not ever needed to
use it (i prefer to create my feeds manually), it is
    *supposed to* make
creating and consuming (readin) rss and atom feeds a
    breeze... but
judging by many a blog posts, it is not without bugs...
google <cffeed>, and check out ray camden's blog at
    coldfusionjedi.com
for many posts on this tag
but there is really nothing stopping you from using
    <cfhttp> + <cfxml>
tags in cf7 to achieve what you want...
as for porting cf7 apps to cf8 - it is usually painless, but
    depending
on the complexity of your server/hardware configuration, it
    may require
    close attention to minute details
just to check if you code runs fine in cf8, there is a code
    analyser
    available in cf admin.

  • Having problem at displaying RSS Feed

    Hi,
I am having problem in displaying the RSS feeds at the Global homepage applet in Single tenant Pod. Are there any special settings required/ or could there be any restrictions? I tested the same in one of the multi-tenant pods and is working fine at the same network. However facing issue in displaying the same at Single tenant pod.
Sample feed that I am trying to check: http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml

It doesn't show me any error message, it just displays the blank screen. Waited until the complete page loads, however still the same blank screen. When I access the same link in different tab (Not in OnDemand), can see the screen. What could be the problem?

  • Display RSS Feed Description of selected Title

    Hei There,
Since i'm no programmer, i should be able to make this happen in siena, so thanks for clear explanations in advance. I would like to display the RSS-Feed Titles in one Listbox, and then show the Content (Description) of the selected RSS-Title in the second
Listbox. How would i do this? My best attempt ist the following sting which doesnt work:
    rss_1(Filter(Listbox1,SelectedItems!Description))
rss_1 is my RSS Data Source
Thank you so much for your Help

I found a solution to this Problem (Thanks to @Marcel Spring)
    1. Create a gallery (i used a custom gallery)
    2. Use a Text Label as Visual
    3. Only Show RSS-Title
    4. Add Visual HTML Text
    5. Use the function <<Gallery3!Selected!description>> In my example, the Gallery3 was the above mentionend custom gallery.
    Done :-)

  • How can I enlarge the firefox window where the theme is displayed?

I would like to enlarge the area where the persona/theme is displayed at the top of my screen.

Add some Toolbars to see the entire height of the persona image = 3000px by 200px ''(I don't think the full width of the Persona image can be seen on anything except a wide screen TV display)''.
Firefox comes with 3 Toolbars, the Menu bar, the Navigation bar, and the Bookmarks toolbar. It may vary depending on your operating system and whether you have Large or Small toolbar icons selected, but on my system I need to have 10 toolbars showing to see the full height of the Persona I have selected.
    ''YMMV''
    View > Toolbars - Customize
Then hit the '''Add New Toolbar''' button, name that new toolbar ''(I named them Spacer 1 -7)'', and then add a single ''' ''Space'' ''' to each new Toolbar. Repeat until you have 7 more Toolbars. When you're done - hit the '''Done''' button.

  • Did anyone else lose the ability to see recovery drive in Disk Utility after 107.1?

After I updated to Lion 10.7.1 I can no longer see my Recovery Drive in Disk Utility. Did 10.7.1 take that away ?
    Just cusious.

    Retired Engineer wrote:

I do remember seeing it. I guess they removed its visability.

  • Did Firefox recently change the bookmarks controls?

When I double-clicked the bookmarks star, it used to respond with a drop-down menu of ALL my bookmark folders so that I could instantly put the current webpage link into whatever bookmark folder I wanted. Today that doesn't happen. Does anyone know how i can regain the old way, which was great, and get rid of this current grossly inefficient clunking process?
I hope this isn't another case of some bored Firefox programmer jerking me around for his/her own amusement.

    * Click the star at the right end of the location bar once to bookmark the current site to the Unsorted folder (this will highlight the star)
    * Click the blue highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and move the bookmark to another folder or edit the name
    * Click the Remove button in the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog to remove a bookmark
Click the arrow at the far right (outside) of the folder field (i.e. not the arrow in the folder field, but the one further to the right) in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list.
This full folder list also opens if you click the drop marker in the Folder field and click the "Choose..." item.
The full folder window has a button to create a "New Folder" (look for a button with "New Folder" or a "+" under the folder list).
If folders in the full folder list aren't expanded (i.e. are closed) then look for a, possibly faint, arrow icon to expand (open) the folders.

  • I have an ecommerce website and FireFox is dropping the items placed in the cart

Hello, I own www.laurenshope.com I have several customers who use Fire Fox as their browser. Lately, I have had several customers call and say that they have placed an item in the cart, then continued shopping. When they were ready to check out it told them their cart was empty. This is really frustrating to them and me. What can I do on the back end of our site to make it compatible with FireFox? This happened last year as well in October. Have you recently launched an update? We strive to make our site compatible with all browsers. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

I assume that the content of that cart is stored in a cookie that needs to be send to your server.<br />
If that cookie isn't send for some reason then such an issue can happen.<br />
    They can also try:
    * "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Visitors can check that they do not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode or have an extension that blocks cookies. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
