Did I Brick my iPhone? iOS6 Restore

I upgraded to iOS6.....My music would not show up, nor would it play via icloud.  After a number of hard restarts, I decided to restore the iOS.  For the last 5 hours, it has been stuck in a loading mode after trying to restore (I got passed all the initial promps).  Not my iphone is stuck in the loading mode, but the bar won't move past the initial load.....say it is at 10%.  I have tried to do hard restarts, but it loads to the 10% and stops.
I restored via wifi. it is a iPhone 4s, 32 gig.  I had a ton of music and apps on there.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I used this as my work phone too.
Thanks in advance.

As already provided, in order to install a firmware update on a no longer activated iPhone or restore a no longer activated iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed, you need to the no longer activated SIM card used with the iPhone when it was activated with AT&T inserted in the iPhone in order to complete the process. What happened to the AT&T SIM card used with the iPhone when it was activated with AT&T?

I want to restore my iPhone to the backup that I did just before upgrading to iOS6.  When I try to pull up old backups, I only see one from this morning and an old one from May 2012 when I still had my iPhone 3GS.  I have not been using iCloud since it was set up improperly when I first switched to the 4S, the contacts weren't being synced AT ALL.  visited the genius bar, they said I need a whole other appointment to visit them and solve that, I haven't had a chance to do that yet.  Thus, I am backing up to iTunes.
This morning's sync/backup resulted in me losing most of my contacts, and for the contacts that remain, 99% of the phone numbers are gone.  I can recover my calendar entries from this past week, but I don't know how I can recover all of them from my May 2012 backup.
Since I had a backup just last week, I'd like to just go back to it.  But how?  Or, is there another way to get my contacts restored?  And why did they disappear?  And what else may be gone that I just don't know about yet?

You should be syncing all your contacts and calendars with your computer, either via iCloud or iTunes, so it is easy to re-sync them back to the phone after you restore.

  • HT1386 I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  Now my iTunes says my iPhone 5 is no longer an authorized device.  What should I do?

I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  I had to rebuild my iTunes Library by dragging my music folders in my iTunes Media into the iTunes Application and rebuild my playlists manually.  After plugging my iPhone 5 into the computer USB, it immediately recognized my iPhone 5, showing: last backups, space left on my iPhone & all options available.  I then checked the box to manually manage music etc.  The problem I am now having is that when I actually try to drag music from my iTunes to my phone a prompt comes up saying that my iPhone is not an authorized device.  What should I do?  Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    jrmetzger,
iOS runs on iPads and iPhones; OS X runs on Macs.
Given your situation, I’d highly recommended that you purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter, so that you can test both your old disk and your new disk externally, since it might be that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than due to faulty disks.

    Resetting the Logic Board
Resetting the logic board can resolve many system problems. Whenever you have a
unit that fails to power up, you should follow this procedure
    before replacing any modules.
    1 Unplug the computer.
2 Press the Power On button on the front of the unit.
3 Open the side access panel.
4 Remove the battery from the logic board.
5 Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing the battery.
6 Make sure the battery is installed in the correct +/-
    direction.
7 Reassemble the computer and test the unit.

  • Backup with iOS6, restore iPhone, restore backup -- will I end up with iOS6 or iOS7?

If I backup my iPhone5 that currently has iOS6, restore the iPhone, then restore backup -- will I end up with iOS6 or iOS7?  When I click "restore iPhone", a message appears that says the latest software will be installed.  I don't want iOS7 (yet).

Backups are data only, not iOS.
A restore will always be the current version of iOS for the device.

  • IOS 8 update via OTA bricked my iPhone 4s. Error 2006

iOS 8 update via OTA bricked my iPhone 4s. Error 2006
Done a update on my iPhone 4s 64GB phone. done it over the air then comes up in recovery mode.  so plugged in iTunes (most up today on a macbook pro) downloaded IOS8 again then when i do a restore it comes up with the error message "The iPhone "IPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (2006)
Computer: macbook pro  15" mid 2012
2nd computer: just been rebuild with windows 7 on it all up today and latest iTunes,
    Cable: 3nd Party
Cable: Apples down brand only 2 days old as bought this one for in the office, (and seems to work with backing up my iPhone on to my macbook pro)
also restarted the machines and checked again for any updates  nothing els plugged in to any of the laptops and it makes no change still get the same error message.
anyone have any clue what is going on.
also i have never called my iPhone "iPhone" (from the error message) must of been a bad install of ios8 (OTA) to bring that name up.

My Iphone 5 got stuck right after I installed iOS8 also.  Mine would not let me past the Hello page.  I had an iCloud backup, so this is what I did.
Downloaded iOS 7.1.2 to my computer. http://www.iclarified.com/750/where-to-download-iphone-firmware-files-from
    Restored My iPhone using iTunes.
    -Launch iTunes
-Plug phone into computer and hold down the sleep button and wake button on your phone until it shows iTunes restore
-Hold Shift in windows 7 while you click restore in iTunes
This will erase everything on your phone and install a fresh version of 7.1.2
I had an icloud backup so I applied that to get all my files and settings back.  (you can not apply a backup from iOS7 onto iOS8 so that is why I did everything above)
I then tried to install the iOS8 update from iTunes instead of over the air.  No luck there either.
I guess I will stick with iOS7 untill the next build.
I hope this helps.  Remember if you do not have a backup that includes all your pictures and such don't do this Because all will be lost.
Has anyone else got iOS8 installed just to get stuck on the Hello page?

  • IOS 5.1.1 bricked my iPhone 4

I recently tried updating my "never jailbroken" iPhone to iOS 5.1.1 and it went into recovery mode. Nothing that myself or the Apple Geniuses could do to get it to update or restore. No problem with the Hardware as per the Apple Genius just software. Due to the phone being Out Of Warranty but less than a year old I have to pay for a replacement.
2 calls to the Apple store Rideau to talk to a manager and no call back after 6 days. Customer service at its finest.
I am not very impressed with Apple due to the fact that is was an official software update that bricked my iPhone and not a hardware or user error.
Has anyone else had this issue and if so have you done anything special to have Apple cover the replacement cost.

Something doesn't add up. The iPhone comes with a 1 year warranty from the original purchase date.
Unless you are not the original owner or if there is user damage.
Where did you get this phone from?

  • Problem recovering new iPhone 4, Stuck on "Preparing iphone for restore", then giving an error message

I recently bought an iPhone 4, and it worked just fine, until I tried to sync it with iTunes. Whenever I would try to sync it, it would stall somewhere in the process, and then an error message would come up eventually. It would say something along the lines of "Process timed out, Internal Harware error" or somthing like that, there were several error messages.
So then I tried to restore the phone. I did it through iTunes, and eventually the process stalled on the "Preparing iPhone for restore" part, and then it would give me an error message (4013). My phone is stuck on the connect to itunes screen. When I do connect it to iTunes it says that the phone is in recorvery mode and that and needs to be restored. So again, I try to restore it and it gets stalled in the "Preparing iPhone for restore" part. I have also recieved the 2005 error code. I have tried to fix it by unplugging all other USB's, using a different USB port, disabling firewalls ect.. I have the newest version of iTunes, and my phone is running 7.0.3 (Can't update now that the restore is necessary, and I couldn't update anyways because the same problem I had syncing it occured when I tried to update.) I have Windows XP.

Error 1 is a baseband error. If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution of this problem. If no coverage then search the Web for Error 1. Users have reported some success with this Error 1.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 3.1 update on Windows bricked my iPhone

There are serious problems with the new iTunes 9 and 3.1 iPhone update.
    1) The 3.1 update bricked my iPhone when iTunes hung at the "installing software" phase (100% CPU, no I/O for 2 hours). I could not kill the iTunes process and had to reboot. After that point I could not restore the previous version (not eligible) or install 3.1. After an hour on the phone with Apple support I ended up having to take it to the local Apple Store (another 2 hour odyssey) and they were able to restore the phone to factory defaults with 3.1
    2) While attempting to restore my backup it quit saying that the iPhone had been disconnected -- I wasn't even near it when this happened. The screen was dark, so I assume the iPhone timed out and locked itself, which shouldn't happen during a restore.
    3) The next attempt to restore failed with the message "iTunes: Attempting to copy to the disk named JHG failed. The disk could not be read from or written to" - AGAIN, the phone had locked itself in the middle of the update.
    I still don't have a working iPhone.

    Update
After two failed restores, iTunes had deleted my good backup from last night and replaced it with corrupted partial backups of partially completed restores.
A second call to AppleCare got me to "Jonathan", who was much more helpful.
He told me where to find the backup images, and I was able to delete the bad ones and restore the good image from my overnight Retrospect backup.
Restoring this image to the iPhone worked, and everything's back to normal with a couple of minor exceptions (email config, lock code). If I hadn't had a backup of the good config I would have been completely out of luck. Sounds like the algorithm for discarding previous backups needs to be rethought in the context of failed restores and/or failed backups.

  • TS3694 "There is a problem with your iPhone." (Restoring/Recovery issues)

So, the other day, I got my iPhone 4 wet (idiot, I know!).  After drying it out in a bowl of rice for 24 hours, it seemed to start up just fine and when connected to iTunes, it prompted me to do a full restore to factory settings. I did just that, and after the restore software downloaded and seemed to install onto the iPhone, it began going through the setup process.  It let me go through a few screens of setup (language, country, location services etc., before showing the connect to iTunes screen). Then iTunes displayed this message:
"There is a problem with your iPhone. Please visit the Service Answer Center to find answers to all your questions about service options, warranty and other      processes in your country. To find your nearest Apple Store, click here."
There are no other options given on neither the phone nor iTunes.
I am out of warranty, have called Apple about replacement options, and was also advised to continue trying to restore.  After 3 or 4 times trying to restore, with the same message, I am asking if anyone knows any other tricks before I go and fork out $169.99 for a replacement phone.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hii mikeszalay,
I have exactly same issue, and my screen can show language and country after I restored for like 7 times.
    My itunes is showing
"There is a problem with your iPhone. Please visit the Service Answer Center to find answers to all your questions about service options, warranty and other processes in your country. To find your nearest Apple Store, click here."
What did you do after this problem? did you successfully fix the phone? Cause I dont know what to do now, and my phone is also out of warranty : (( It will be a really great help if you could share experience!!
    Thank you so much!!!
