I need to upgrade the HD in my white macbook early 2008. I went to crucial and ran their compatibility tool and what I purchased was a western digital 500GB SATA 5400 8MB. It was also recomended that I get an enclosure and I bought one from amazon itdoes not seem to have a name on it but just says "USB2.0 HDD External Box" this one.
At this point I have not attempted to just swap out the HD's (not sure I will be able to get to the ap store to download my other aps, can't find Snow Leopard disk). The pins on the enclosure do not seem to be compatable with the contacts on the HD.

After you've put the drive in an external case. Then with the drive plugged in to a USB port, open Disk Utility. It's in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. You should see the new drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the external drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click on the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the partitioning is done quit Disk Utility. Your external drive should now appear on your desktop.
You can now clone your drive over to the new drive.

Tiger 10.4.11 vs Leopard 10.5 did I get the right one for me?

I recently installed Tiger 10.4.11 ..waiting for iLife 05 and Office Mac S&T Edition to arrive.
I chose Tiger 10.4 over Leopard 10.5 b/c of Leopard's recommended processor speed of 867 ...mine is 667.
I now realize that some folks in the forum are running Leopard 10.5.
Did I choose wisely or not? Not sure what I am missing.

I'm half asleep and can't think of the name right now, but 10.5 (and up) has built-in VNC so you can use remote desktop (see/use another computer's desktop just like you're on that other computer) without any additional software. With 10.4 I have to use a third-party app (was using ChickenoftheVNC, now using JollysFastVNC), which is free, but not very fast and not bug-free. In any case, it allows me to be on any one of my computers and work on/from a different one, just like I'm on the other one (ok, I'm not sure I can even make sense of that ).

Ok There seems to be alot of confusion on hear about the Friday ( 07-08-11) Update that was sent out to fix the Reboot issue with the Phone. Some people like my self have reported that they can not get the Update as there phone is getting an inability to connect to the network error, or the update window simply disappears with out a response (This is what is happening to me).
Many have reported that they got the update it fixed the reboot bug, and that they are seeing improvement in the phones functionality in general. Some people have reported that they have heard that the update is causing more problems. What I have yet to see (And I might have simply missed them) is reports from users that this has actually happened to them. So I started this Thread to see if we can't get a straight answer from the people that are actually using the phone (Because it seems VZW and HTC don't' seem to know or want to tell us right now)

When I changed computers, my IPAD did not get the apps that I had downloaded or purchased. It did get my calendar,music and related items.

I would try first in iTunes right clicking on your iPad and selecting "Transfer Purchases from iPad". This will add any new downloads from your iPad to your computer. Then click on the iPad and at the top choose Apps and make sure you have "Sync Apps" checked. I hope that helps.

I'd like to get something bigger and also upgrade the operating system. Don't need multiple TB's nor can I afford it but want to ensure i get the right thing for my needs.
It won't install adobe photoshop 6 because operating system is too old but don't want to spend money on new operating system with hard drive that keeps failing.

Got this error code about a year ago. downloaded a manual fan program that has helped but every third day or so it crashes and when i try reboot i get the dreaded question mark. usually if i let it rest for an hour or two it fires up but i don't want to risk anymore.

I suspect a failed HD, in that case I'd recommend Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode at least 3x. You will need the original install discs that shipped with the computer, if you do not have them any longer you will need to order a replacement set from Apple by calling AppleCare. You will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. The cost should be nominal.

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.

What model computer do you have? some early trackpads will not support all gestures.
Front Row was dropped by Apple in Lion. I beleive it can be recovered from Snow Leopard, I haven't tried it myself.
