Did I Just Go Back In Time?
Some friends came over to do homework, and since we needed Windows, I restarted my MBP to start up Vista. I unplugged my external Hard Drive (where all my music is) as usual.
A friend of mine wanted to transfer her iPod music over to my Mac to burn a CD, so we created a new library and did just that.
However, when I switched back to Mac OS X and plugged my Hard Drive, everything on iTunes was really weird.
I did hold the option key when I opened iTunes to choose my library, and I chose my ext. Hard Drive, but I was missing some songs I had purchased/imported on January.
In fact, the library that it was displaying didn't even list my new purchases.
The files were on my Hard Drive, but weren't listed on iTunes.
So I had to manually import everything on my ext. Hard Drive for iTunes to only import what I was missing.
Even though it's fixed, I want to know what happened...
No-one responds. Sad.

Ive just been traveling for 4 months and left my 1TB Time Machine @ home.
I just came back - plugged it in so that time machine could do a back up but, it says it can't, because it has been over 127 days - or something like that.
Now it says it need 521GB
My last backup was 458GB - only 63GB DIFFERENCE
It seems that it is now trying to write a whole new backup instead of adding to my previous ones.
Also I can't enter time machine and browse my old backups.
Please I don't want to have this problem every time i get home- why can;t i just plug it in and backup?Beetlejuice07 wrote:

Yes, that can happen. See #D3 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Also I can't enter time machine and browse my old backups.
Most likely, TM deleted all but your most recent backup trying to make room for the new full one. But if you see no backups at all, try the Browse option in #E2 of the same Tip. -
Did someone just reset the all time statistics on Leaderboards?

As the title says, seems all the old information from the "All Time" statistics of "Leaderboards" have gotten wiped for both internal and external users while the "Current Month" statistics have stayed intact.
- JouniI thought everyone wouldn't mind if we started from scratch again We will try and reset the leaderboard cache this evening and hope it will fix the issue. If that doesn't work we'll investigate further. Not to worry though if you look in your profile all points are still accounted for.

I am using an Mac PPC version 10.5.8 and I am trying to download the correct version of Flash Player. I did once but I had to install a "Clean Install" of my computer and when finished I had put back the new Flash Player I just installed well every time I try install the new player it is place in my Trash Folder and I can not get Player to work. I did everything I was to install it correctly but it still does not install it correctly. Can some help me. Bob

My iMac suddenly can't read the backup hard drive I've been using for Time Machine. I tried unplugging the cord that connects the HD to the iMac and plugging it back in, but I still get "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" below which are buttons for Initialize, Ignore and Eject. I was using a cord that went from larger square plug to larger square plug. So then I tried one that went from smaller square plug to what I think is USB (thin rectangular plug) of the sort that connects the keyboard and mouse. It's the type that my printers and scanners use to connect to the iMac. I did NOT just upgrade the OS or anything. The external HD is an OWC Mercury Elite All Pro. It's worked fine since I got the iMac 4 years ago. What else can I try before just trying to initialize and
Thanks, Michael! I do hear it at times spooling up and running. Just after I bumped the thread I looked for troubleshooting for this drive online and found the manual which suggested using Disk Utility which I've seen before accidentally (if I hit Command Shift U instead of Shift U to type "Unit" on a new folder for a student's homework ) but had never really noticed. Disk Utility does see it and also a sub-something (directory?) which might be the Time Machine archives on the disk, called disk1s2), sort of the way that my iMac's hard drive shows up as 640.14 GB Nitachi HDT7... and has a sub-something titled DB iMac, which is what I named my iMac's hard drive.
Anyway the owner's manual just shows the image under the formatting section, not the troubleshooting section, but as soon as I saw it in the manual I remembered seeing it accidentally a few times, went to it, and am now verifying the disk. Right now it's telling me that it will take 2 hours to complete the verification, so I guess I have a bigt of a wait. :-)
Does that fact that Disk Utilities can see it mean it's not failed, or just that it hasn't completely failed?
I can see the virtue in having multiple redundant backups, or at least two backups. What do you suggest? Two external hard drives? I had this one linked by ethernet, and but I also have a cord that could link it by USB (like a printer), so if this one is reparable I could get a second one and link it by USB. If this one is not reparable I could get two and do the same thing. I do have an Airport so I suppose it's possible to get some sort of Wi-Fi hard drive (my new printer/scanner uses only the network and not a cable, although it has a cable that I used for the initial installation), but I'd suspect a Wi-Fi hard drive might have a higher price.
What hard drives, if any, do you recommend? I seem to recall that when I was looking at external hard drives 4 years ago, Apple's were substantially more expensive, which is why I got the OWC Mercury Elite All Pro. -
I purchased doc mcstuffins on the iPad. Downloaded several times which takes at least a day to do. Still unable to view episodes. Akers for a frustrated mommy & 3yr old. Did I just waste $30????

Don't take your laptop back. Find out the number for Apple Care in your part of the world and call them. Tell your story to them. If the person on the phone can't help you, ask for their supervisor. Keep asking for supervisors until you get exactly what you want to get. If that mean you want to get the problem fixed without having the computer gone for four weeks, then keep asking for supervisors till you get someone who can do that for you.
Be prepared to be on the phone for a while, so arrange a speaker phone, water to hand etc. Be patient.
As for "crappy computers"--my MBA has worked flawlessly since the day I got it. As good if not better than any Apple laptop I've ever had, and I've had several.This is the thing though, there is a percentage of failure rate that occurs in electronics. It occurs whether we're talking about televison sets or toasters. If it's electric, it has that failure rate. Now sometimes a thing will be bad and in that case the word gets out and everyone knows that particular electronic has surpassed the normal failure percentage. The Airs, however, have not done that. Their reputation, so far, has been incredibly solid and good. So you can assume that you, unfortunately, got one out of that small percentage of electronics that have an issue.
Laptops, let us remember, are doing a lot in a very small area. A lot can go wrong, and it's pretty amazing how many don't, especially given how many are made and sold. Sometimes we get the bad apple in the barrel, it doesn' t mean that the company making it has gone down hill. We hope the manager of the store, or the company, or someone will do right by us. If they don't, then we need to make sure they do. Keep asking for upper management till you get what you want. -
I go to settings and switch "Automatic time" off and then back on. It works for a while, but then just goes back to being off. I've tried manually setting the time, but it just goes back to what it was before. If I send a text, it sends and then disapears. I can't see what I wrote! I went in to Apple to try and get it fixed, but they just restored my phone. It's still not working. Please help!
It's not hacker or a virus. You are experiencing what a number of users of iOS 5 are experiencing now - sluggish or less than perfect iPad performance. It seems that for some of us - memory management has gotten a little out of whack with this most recent update. Some of the basic troubleshooting steps that you can try are ....
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Close apps in the recents tray. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If you have Safari crashing issues - Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
None of these steps should be necessary as part of your daily routine - the iOS is supposed to handle all of this without any user input. Once again - for some of us - the iOS is letting us down.
Until Apple releases another update that resolves this issue for the "few" that suffer, keep these steps in mind and use them as needed. -
I have just installed a 2TB time capsule on my iMac i7, it see my second 1TB hard drive but the 256 SSD doesn't come up in the list of hard drives I can back up. How can I enable the time machine to see my first SSD 256gb hard drive?

How can I force Time Machine to make a complete backup of my Hard Drive. I just installed a new external drive for Backup since my previous one failed. Now when I back up, Time Machine only backs up my data folder and the Users folder.

How do I set up my new Time Capsule just to back up not as a wireless?
Can anyone tell me how to use my new Time Capsule just for back up not as a wireless router?
I have an ATT Uverse for my wireless service and have not been able to get the two to work together.
I just want to plug my Time capsule in and connect it to my MacBook Pro with an ethernet an click backup.
So far my computer doesn't reconnect the Time Capsule.
Thank you for your helpYou will need to configure the Time Capsule (TC) to join the wireless network provided by the ATT Uverse router, as follows:
Either connect to the TC's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN port of the TC, and then, using the AirPort Utility, change this setting:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless tab > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
Wireless tab > Wireless Network Name: <select the ATT Uverse network>
This configuration will allow your Mac to connect by wireless to the ATT Uverse router and perform Time Machine backups wirelessly.
If you want to only do this backups by wire, then you will need to connect the TC directly to the ATT Uverse router by Ethernet, and then, reconfigure the TC as a bridge. You can then connect the Mac to the TC by Ethernet as well for backups. -
i just came back from a family vacation and tried to sync my phone to my laptop. It didnt recognize my phone, and did i want to add device or restore to old device. i chose to restore and in doing so, i lost all the photos taken on our vacation. is there a way to retrieve photos? the completely disappeared from my iphone altogether. I am using iphone 5. I did not have any backup since I was about to download the photo. Please help me. Thank you

I dissabled my ipod touch 4th generation. It says connect to itunes, and i did what it say to do but the "connect to itunes" screen never shows up...it just goes back to the "ipod is dissabled connect to itunes screen. What do i do?????
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If they are in photo stream and your computer meets the minimum system requirements (OS X 10.7.2 or higher and iPhoto '11 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later; or Vista SP2 or later if you have a PC), set up iCloud on your computer and enable photo stream, as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/. You'll get any photo stream photos from the last 30 days.
Camera roll photos are stored in your iCloud backup, and can only be recovered by restoring the entire backup to another iPhone or iPod Touch that is running the same or higher version of iOS as the phone you backed up.
