Did I lose all of my data trying to install XP in Bootcamp???

Ok so I need to know if I am out of luck!
I have been using Parallels but decided to use Boot camp. I went through the process of partitioning 12 or 13GB for Windows XP in the Boot camp app within OSX and then rebooted as it told me and put in the Windows XP disk. The only issues I can see is I used Windows XP Service Pack 1 and not 2 or later as required. Not sure if this could really screw anything up or if it just wouldn’t work. Then in the XP install it asked me what partition to use and format and I selected C: and did NTFS. I didn’t complete the install and when it reboots the only option I get if I take the XP CD out is to go into Windows. I used one of the CD’s that came with the system and it doesn’t seem to find my OSX install but I am still showing 150GB free which is what I had free before so I still have hope that my data may at least be there.
Any thoughts or advice? I tried to call Apple last night since I spent $249.00 on support and it said they closed at 9:00 Eastern Time? Is that true or could I be using the wrong number.
Is my OSX install gone or just hidden somewhere and is all my data gone, please say no.
This is making me curse ever trying to put Windows on there but they give you the option and I have some apps that don’t work on Mac and I don’t want to use to computers…
Thanks,
Tucker

Yeah I did some quick google searches for info last night and tried rebooting holding down the Option Key as I booted and all I got was the Windows Option. I tried putting the Apple Disks in to see if the OS was still there and it didn't show it...
So you say if "If ONLY Windows shows as an option then we have an issue to deal with." Does this mean there is a fix / solution? I have so many photos of my son (7 months old this weekend) on there that I irresponsibly didn't back up.
Any help would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks,
-Tucker

Why did I lose all of my contacts when I installed 5.1.1 version on my iphone 4? I did back-up and got everything else back except the contacts???

What address book or cloud service were you syncing your contacts with before the update? They should still be there.
Contact information is only part of the backup in order to maintain your favorites and recent calls list. Contacts are meant to be synced to a cloud service or address book.

If you didn't back it up, your data is gone. There is no "solution" after the fact.

  • ITunes lost all of its data will my iPad lose all of its data too?

I opened my iTunes then all my music, movies, etc. are gone. I'm afraid if my iPad/itouch will lose all of its data if I sync it to my empty iTunes.

if you do a sync with itunes on your computer before the restore and a sync after the restore (making sure you have set all the the things you want synched turned on) - it should put all of the data back on your restore ipad
when you do a restore (making sure you did a sync before the restore) - check restore from backup not restore as a new device

  • Closed a logic pro x project and when asked to save i said no did i lose all i did or is there a way i can recover the files??

Closed a logic pro x project and when asked to save i said no did i lose all i did or is there a way i can recover the files??

Your only parachute would be Time Machine (if you have it running).
Logic's Auto Save feature doesn't help you at that point because that data is reset if you close the Project (or save the Project). However, the recorded audio files should be still in the Projects File (inside the Media folder of the Package File).
My guess is that this is actually a bug because it leaves orphan files behind that cannot be accessed from the Logic Project itself.
    Hope that helps

If you have a backup, you can retrieve the camera roll pictures, app data and some other items. This will explain what is contained in the backup.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and now it won't turn on at all, will i lose all of my data, for example my photos and messages etc? and is there any way you can back the phone up without having it switched on?

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and now it won't turn on at all, will i lose all of my data, for example my photos and messages etc? and is there any way you can back the phone up without having it switched on?

If you had previously been backing up to iCloud (or a computer with iTunes), you would possibly have a backup.  That said, if you can't turn the phone on, you cannot create a backup of the device now.  Sorry.

    Restore from the backup!
You password: You have set it! It might be your passcode or you mioght have set it accidentally, so test all of the passwords you normally use. If you cannot get the password you backup is lost, but you can still sync your iTunes content.

  • My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. What do you do when you buy a new computer or have a new hard drive?  Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

See this article for details: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Make sure your Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your MacBook.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I recently backed up my iPhone using iCloud and now can not get my camera roll onto my new iPhone or my Mac.  Did I lose all the photos from my old phone?

I recently picked up a new iPhone6.  Before i handed in my old phone(iphone5), I backed it up using iCloud.
Now I can't seem to get the photos from my old camera roll onto my new phone or my Mac.  Did I lose all
the photos from my old phone?

    1. Create a backup of your iPad to iTunes on your computer or to iCloud
    2. Transfer any and all photos & videos on your iPad to your computer.
    3. Erase the iPad and restore the iPhone's iCloud backup to the device.
    4. Transfer any and all photos & videos on your iPad to your computer.
    5. Restore the iPad backup you reated in step #1 back to the iPad.

  • TS1967 I gave my iMac to a recycler and bought a new iPad.  Did I lose all my iTunes songs?

I gave away my iMac to a recycler.  Did I lose all my iTunes songs?

Your music will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Did you fail to do this?
The ipad is not a replacement for a computer.  It is simply a large ipod touch.
If for some reason you have failed to keep a copy of your music, not good, you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

why did I lose all of my documents in Pages?

I'm being "snarky" for asking you to actually provide some information?
Don't be so self obsessed as to imagine that we are constantly looking over your shoulder at what you are doing.
All we have to go on is what you choose to tell us. If you choose not to, what do you expect?
You are not alone in the childish "Mom, I can't find it!?" style questions. It gets wearisome playing 20 questions to just get to the point where you have a comprehendable question.
We still don't know what version of Pages.
Saved documents don't live in Pages, they are on your hard drive, on a server or some other device.
"ALL" your documents is comprehensive. So you have no documents of any description left on your Mac (now that we know it is a Mac) or anywhere else?
AS Peggy pointed out, if you never saved the document, it is gone.
We are still struggling to find out what you are talking about.

  • Trying to install Windows with Bootcamp

Hello. First, I do know this has been a recurrent trouble for a lot of Mac user who have tried to install Windows using Bootcamp. Believe me, I've looked it up both here in the Apple Communities and in saint Google. My situation is, however, that I have replaced my optical drive with a SSD, and now my optical drive works externally, via USB. Everytime I try to install Windows in a dedicated partition in the SSD, it just stays forever in a blank screen with blinking cursor.
Apple's troubleshot won't work for me, and I'm beginning to think that the issue has more to do with the optical drive itself. I tried:
To install Windows on the HDD instead of SSD.
To unplug every USB (even mouse), except for the optical drive with Windows 7.
To install it via USB stick (creating a bootable .iso with Disk Utility). In this case the usb stick does not even appear when holding option key.
To try another Windows 7 version (32/64 bits).
I have even read it might be because of a bad installation of the RAM memory... this makes no sense?!
If anyone has encountered this same situation, I'd appreciate some help. Hope I can get this done, because Steam's Age Of Empires won't ever work in OS X :S
Thank you all for reading and helping!

    OS X 10.9.5

If your Mac was originally configured with a built-in Optical drive, and it was later replaced, Bootcamp knows your original configuration and will not work properly in the modified configuration, because it uses your Mac's model string (found in About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> Hardware) for example, MacbookPro 11,3. The only supported method to install Windows is to restore the original HW configuration and install it and then move hardware around.
