Did iTunes 11 stop sharing with Apple TV 5.2 update?

I could send movies from iTunes to my Apple TV 3 without wifi before the update. Now I can't. Anyone else having issues? You must have figured the "works with ATV without wifi" before updating as you will be no help to me if you didn't know you could. Any home movies you had in iTunes you could stream through some sort of remote Bluetooth setting in iTunes 11 to your ATV before this update. Help!

I had a similar problem after updating. But not only were my purchases not showing up, the apple tv would crash every time I tried to launch the movies or tv shows apps.  This post from another discussion solved all my problems:
Try signing out of your iTunes account and then signing back in, as suggested by this Apple doc ->
Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating
Symptoms
After updating to Apple TV Software 5.2, attempting to use the following features may result in Apple TV unexpectedly returning to the main menu:
Movies
Music
TV Shows
Other iTunes Store features
ResolutionYou can resolve this issue by signing out of your iTunes Store account, and then signing back in:
Select Settings > iTunes Store
Select your account, and then select Sign Out
Select Add New Account
Sign in to your account
Verify that the issue is resolved by accessing Movies or TV Shows on your Apple TV.
If you encounter an issue signing in or out of your iTunes Store account, try restarting your Apple TV.

I had an itunes account I shared with my family.  I opened a separate account when I got a new phone but cant't transfer my library of music.  I want to cancel new account and go back to original shared account.  How do I do this?

Content is permanently tied to the account it is acquired with.
    Apple ID's cannot be deleted.
Simply sign out of the undesired account and stop using it.  Sign in with the desired account.

In finder, it says that I am shared to a pc which I didn't know about nor do i know the pc, how do I stop sharing with it?

I gather that you are seeing other "pee-seas" (and | other hosts) in MAC OSX Finder UI under SHARED ? T/F ??  The Finder is reflecting what others are sharing.
In any case consider these items:
    1) Other hosts on your network (local) have ITEMS (folders and structures) that they themselves are sharing
with anyone on there network and to others outside who will access them via a specic host nae or address. KInda like your mate who has some files he wants to share with you. You connect to his host (machine) either by a host name (yourmate.com), an IP address (33.33.33.11) or on your local area network usually over Bonjour (yourmates_macbookair.local).
Simply THEY ARE sharing their stuff with you and this your MACs FINDER makes then apear under the SHARED parion of the side bar in the UI. This is likely what you are seeing
microsoft platforms have their users share DIRECTORIES mainly through the SHARING properties for that opject. YEp.. and then you can at a minimum SEE it . HOwever this doesnt mean you can access the contents.... This is all familiar to most.. nothing to be concerned about.
    Probably no need for concern.....
(IMO), its amazing the number of PC users that unknowingly expose their folder contents on a hotel WIFI or ETHERNET network... its astonishing....!
    2) YOUR CONCERN that you are sharing your stuff:
I'll hazard a guess that form you minmal description that you may feel that others on your network can SEE YOUR STUFF?? Bt Default, any user can see ANYTHING you have put in your ~/Public folder (theis is your Public folder in your home directory. Usually they can ONLY read whats there unless you have gone out of your way to change the ACCESS CONTROL LIST (ACL) to an access for others other than READ ONLY.
An extention so to speak of this sharing is the concept of a "DROP BOX" that is also maintained by default in your homes public folder (~/Public/Drop Box). This is very useful for people to GIVE you their files by DROPPING then into this ~/Public/Drop Box folder.
So THIS folder is exposed for all to see on your local network.
How to stop anyone seeing anything?.. easy..
Step 1: go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES/Sharing/ and UNTICK the  "File Sharing" service. Its probably already unticked. This will stop exposing anything that you have shared to others. pee-sea users may need your to enable SMB/CIFS TO READ YOUR STUFF. YOU WONT HAVE THIS ENABLED UNLESS YOU DID IT YOURSELF. Additionally there are windows .apps to read mac file systems too... so stopping all fie sharing will do the trick
Step 1.1: if you dont want others to see your ~/Public folder either then simply select the Public folder in your finder, open the Finder inspector (+i), open the disclosure triangle for "sharing and permissions" and then set the access by others to "NO ACCESS"
Step 2: while you are in SYSTEM PREFERENCES/Sharing/ and UNTICK the  "Remote Login" and "Screen Sharing" services. Its very likely already unticked. This will stop exposing remote services such as ssh and vnc anything that you have shared to others.
Step 3: for extra go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES/Security/Firewall and enable any setting for network here that you want to disable or filter... seek out these apple discussion forums.. tonnes of stuff here on his.

Post your results for others to see.

  • ITunes Home Sharing with Apple TV2, works with one Win 7 PC but not with the other

Hopefully someone out there can help with this, I have gone through all of the troubleshooting procedures that Apple provides, and have spoke to thier 'fast track' technical services department and we cannot resolve this.
My probelm is that Apple TV does not recognize my Win7 PC that has itunes running in Home Sharing mode.  In order to test my router, network configurationand the Apple TV, I put iTunes on a laptop on my network running Win7 as well, and the Apple TV had no problems sharing with that computer.  I have opened all of the ports in my firewall that Apple recommended, and tried to make it work both with and without my anti-virus software, but still no sharing of iTunes with this computer.  We are working with the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV, both updated today.
Has anyone run into this problem?
    Thanks
    S McD

Yep - have had the same problem, especially since IOS5 came about and no solution has worked.  I've fought this one for a while, I come back to it every once in a while when I see something that might be a new tack but no joy.  I've also tried all that stuff, but none of them fix it.
I can tell you a couple of things I have found out along the way:
First off, there is some kind of issue with the Apple Mobile Service that causes it to not stay working.  If you stop the service and start it you may be able to make the sharing show up for a bit, but it will eventually disappear.
Secondly, there may be a network routing factor to this too.  Apple doesn't like to use the same kind of protocols as many sharing schemes do, instead preferring something known as "Bonjour".  Bonjour uses multicast routing, and appears to either be programmed badly or in a non-standard way - or maybe there just is no standard.  In any case what you find is that it just doesn't work, and there is no current fix.
Keep trying though, maybe you can figure it out.  If you do, please come back and post what you did, I'd be very interested.  Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I can at least tell you that you're not crazy, there are others out there having the same problem with the same bleak outlook.  By the way, mine used to work until iOS5.

  • On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with apple tv

On my windows 7 machine, itunes won't connect home sharing with my apple tv.  This problem started about two itunes updates ago.  Any thoughts?

Try a search of the forums or the "More Like This" section to the right.
Also might have better luck posting to the Apple TV forum.

  • Home Sharing with Apple TV2 Broken After 4.2 Update

It looks like I have some company with at least similar issues. This is very frustrating and support was no help.
ATV 2 worked just great with Windows 7 64-bit and iTunes library until the 4.2 update was loaded. Now ATV 2 keeps telling me to turn on home sharing on a computer but it's already on and iTunes is running, I'm using iTunes 10.2.1.1 and Apple TV2 with latest update 4.2 (2060) and connection over WIFI. Home Sharing is enabled on my computer and ATV2 using the same Apple ID and password. I can get to YouTube and the iTunes store from my ATV 2 without issue.
I've attempted many solutions from what I could find online but no luck:
    1. Turned off/on home sharing on both the Apple TV 2 and in iTunes (multiple times)
    2. Re-entered my Apple ID and password on both ATV 2 / iTunes
    3. Restarted iTunes and ATV 2
    4. Restarted the DSL modem/router (ZyXEL PK5000z)
    5. Turned the firewall completely off (Norton Internet Security - firewall is off in router)
    6. Restored ATV 2 over WIFI
    7. Reinstalled iTunes
    8. Changed my Apple ID and password then reset in iTunes and ATV 2
    9. Renamed my itunes library
    10. Disabled QoS upstream/downstream protocol in my DSL modem/router
    11. Restored ATV 2 through USB connection in iTunes. This worked for a few minutes but after I turned off ATV 2 and later tried again it was back to it not working...
    Any other ideas?

Well, I tried a few other things and one worked but again just the first time I tried connecting to the desktop PC with iTunes. I flashed my router with the latest update and the ATV2 could see the iTunes library and I was able to play media. Later in the day I was going to show off to my daughter that I had fixed it and, to my dismay, no go. I tried opening the suggested ports but no luck.
I then tried loading iTunes on a Win7 laptop and it works perfectly with the ATV2. Both the laptop and the ATV2 are connected to the router wirelessly while the Desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet. Not sure if this is part of the issue as it sounds like this didn't work for others. The only other difference between the laptop and desktop is that the desktop has Win7 SP1 loaded while the laptop does not; now I'm scarred to load it though I don't think that's the issue. All in all, a very vexing situation. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

  • Why did my phone stop syncing with husband phone with calendars?

    My phone's calendar
has stopped syncing with husbands, the settings appear to all be the same.

Just an update; after an hour chatting with an Apple support person, I had to wipe my iPad & reload everything. Now it syncs fine, but it has taken way too long to reload everything. Note that iCloud or computer backups are all or nothing; you cannot do selective restores if you do not want to restore a lot of old stuff.

  • Gmail IMAP account stopped working with Apple Mail

I have Leopard with 10.5.5, just updated it a few days ago.
I have used my gmail account for a few years with Apple mail with no real problems, but now today, I got errors about an invalid certificate, and a little exclimation point by my gmail inbox. I have an iPhone and another Mac that I was syncing all this to so I don't know something with one of those screwed it up, so I have removed all gmail accounts from everything and I'm just trying to set it back up on my main laptop, but i get an error when setting up the new IMAP account. Now it says logging into the IMAP server has failed and to check my username and password... I am following the instructions from the gmail site really close, and I've even reset my gmail password.
anybody know why it still isn't working?

Hmm, turns out my iMac Apple Mail has been resetting the Mailbox activity settings for some random reason which would explain the drafts problem. Wonder why?

  • TS2771 itouch stopped working with Bose sounddock after software update 5.1.1

Have an iTouch that used to work well with Bose SoundDock.  Then updated iTouch software to version 5.1.1  and as usual apple ITouchOS now does not recognize the Bose SoundDock at all now.  Error message iTouch does not support this accessory.  What the heck?  How to fix?  Buying new dock is not solution. iTouch is gen 4.

You can try the standard fixes:
    Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
    - If still the problem then it appears that the iOS update broke the compatibility. That happens sometimes. In that case you have to wait for an update from either Apple or Bose.
    - Also, use the communities search box in the upper right and search for. bose. I think other users had same problem. It is hard to remember the dock manufacturer.

  • HT202157 problem with apple tv after new update

after update blinking signal and showing me connect to i tunes

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Home sharing stops working with Apple TV after about one hour.. Apple TV drops my MAC and says Home Sharing not available.

Hey there, Ihave the latest firmware update on my Apple TV 2. I have Lion with latest updates installed.
I have home sharing turned on in iTunes 10 no issues their
Network is set up as such.. Apple TV hardwired with Ethernet Cable, MAC where iTunes resides is WiFi on a dual band wireless N network. No dropped connections, network showing in perfect connected status.. All other home networking functions working perfectly. No wireless or ethernet disruptions.
Apple TV works perfect for about one hour then all of a sudden stops and says home sharing is turned off.. but it's not. Double checked iTunes on the MAC, home sharing still set up no issues. I restart iTunes.. does not help, reboot MAC does not help. Reset Apple TV doesn't help.
About an hour later, home sharing shows up in Apple TV again..
Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts as to why Home Sharing on the Apple TV stops by itself when no changes are occuring?

  • ITunes 11 home sharing with iPhone not quite working

This morning I updated iTunes 11 to the newly released iTunes 11.1. I never could get home sharing to work with my iPhone 3GS (iOS 6.0.1). It would start to download the library information and then just stop. I used home sharing all the time so I was eagerly waiting for the fix many people seemed to need.
So...Now getting the library information seems to take a long time--5 minutes or so, but it does run to completion. But, my lists of Artists and Albums are incomplete. I haven't done a lot of testing but it seems that all of my tracks are listed under Songs, and all of the references in my Playlists open the correct tracks. For example, Charlie Musselwhite is not listed under Artists. His album One Night in America is not listed under Albums, but the song Blues Overtook Me is listed under songs and appears in the Playlists where it belongs and clicking it there plays the correct song with the correct album artwork. Once I'm playing the song, I can switch from the artwork to the album list and all the album's songs are there and are playable.
I haven't tested every song, but I've done enough to believe that all my tracks are accessible, even though only about 10% of the albums and artists are listed properly.
BTW: I believe that the Album and Artist lists are the ones I would get if I changed iTunes to share only selected playlists, but I haven't bothered to prove this.
What was a prohibitive problem has been made into a minor annoyance, but in case anyone form Apple reads this, let me say this. I have been an Apple user and fan from long before Apple made the first iPod or iMac, but I am incrasingly disappointed with the dumb things Apple now releases. In the past I never thought twice about updating the the latest version of anything, because whatever Apple released worked, and if there were a few minor bugs, new software never, never, never went backwards.
    Booooo, Apple.
From now on I will be letting others do your beta testing for you while I continue to use maps that get me where I want to go and applications that work as advertised without drawing me into spending hours getting back to where I was before an upgrade. The fact that it is no longer possible to revert to a previous, properly working version of iTunes has cemented my feeling that I will remain safely behind the leading edge.

just found it out after playing around to get itunes 11 to look like the older version go to view ( TOP LEFT )
and click on show sidebar and then click ON SHOW STATUS BAR ... Then go to file and sign out of home share and then sign in again ... thats it and your import and sttings and other boxs will reapear ...REMEMBER TO REPEAT THIS ON ALL COMPUTERS THAT ARE RUNNING ITUNES .........HOPE YA WIFE IS HAPPY ..MINE WAS ....

  • Family sharing with apple ID not primary iCloud ID

hi! before family sharing existed, we set up a new apple id in iTunes (a gmail address) for my children to share so they could have the same purchases on their iPads. they also had their own unique apple id's for mail, contacts, etc. now that we're trying to work with family sharing, how do we accept the invitation for this  account, as it's not technically associated with an iCloud account. their iPads, my mac, my iPad and phone all have our own iCloud accounts. from what i've read, the recipient of the invitation needs to be logged into their account on a device or a mac, but i suspect it means logging in to iCloud in order to accept the email invite, not just logging into iTunes. but if i do that on my mac or other device, it wants to delete everything else from my primary apple ID account. is there a way to accept the invitation in an email if it's not a primary iCloud email?

yesterday i've played with that issue also. Here are my results:
When you assign an appleid to your user account, you have to verify it's properly linked. You can do so by going to the users & groups pref pane. unlock it and right click on your user account. You should see "additional options" then. Go for it. Now take a look to the "Aliases" Section. You should see the mail adress of your linked appleid there. right below there should follow a line, starting with "com.apple.idms.appleid....". This seems to be some kind of Unique ID of your AppleID. If this entry is present, your AppleID is correctly linked to your account. If there is only the mail adress, the linking was not successfull. In this case, make sure you have Internet connection. This is important, because the information of the AppleID must be taken from apple's servers. so if you link the AppleID without Internet Connection, it will not work at all. After you have ensured a working internet connection, remove and reassign the AppleID to your account. After that, the entries should be OK.
When you have done this on both computers, you now should be able to connect a remote computer using your AppleID. But only for Filesharing. Screen Sharing seems not to work this way at the moment. I have played around about 2h yesterday without finding a clue to get this authentication method working.
After reading around in the web for a while, i found several posts which indicate that this feature only work, if you connect to the other mac using the IP Adress and not the hostname. Because i personally do not have the possibility to check that at the moment, maybe someone else can check this. Just go to safari and enter "vnc://IPofRemoteMac" in the adress bar. Connection should be established using IP adress then. Maybe this works

  • RE: Library Sharing with Apple TV1, no longer works with Home Sharing on.

Let me begin by telling you what I have.
Last year I took my old 2006 XServe Dual Quad 2.8 GHz and moved it in my home which is hardwired, and set it to share my iTunes library (700 movies, 700 TV Shows and 16,000 songs) to my six Macs, 3 PC's and four Rev. 1 Apple TV's, thereby creating a cheap Kaleidescape Video Server System (www. Kaleidescape.com), and it worked great. However, when I introduced an Rev. 2 Apple TV into the equation, it, the Apple TV2 does not see the shared libraries on the XServe. It requires Home Sharing. The problem begins when I turn on Home Sharing for the Apple TV2, my Apple TV1's no longer see the Shared Libraries, and I have not be able to find a solution that allows me to run both TV's. In looking through the internet it appears the Traditional Sharing that I was used to, is going away with IOS. The question then becomes, is there a work around? Realistically, I cannot see why Apple would disable this feature as it works so well, and didn't require iTunes Authorization, which is user limited. Any ideas? I would really appreciate the help.
