Did Lenovo update, Windows 8.1 won't load. BSOD

I did an update from Lenovo which included video drivers, BIOS, and other stuff. Now my computer won't start. I get a BSOD and then the computer loops into the Automatic Repair menu (Windows 8.1). I did a System Restore Point and even though the OS said the recovery was successful, it still won't boot up correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I gave that a try. I was able to get to regedit (I didn't think it was possible) and I did follow the directions to the key. I don't have that last key mentioned. I also noticed the article was for Windows7.
I found a link on that same Microsoft page to a different way to solve a similar thing on Windows8. I followed the directions to get into COMMAND / DOS and get an elevated command prompt. I followed the directions to get the computer to restart in Safemode "bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal" and then followed the directions to type "shutdown /r /t 0"  to shutdown the computer and then start it back up. The computer didn't recognize the shutdown command so I hit exit. The computer went back into the Win8.1 repair menu. I chose to "shutdown" the computer. I restarted the computer and after approximaetly 10 minutes, it went into some sort of Safemode screen. The screen said "safemode" on all 4 corners but the desktop never fully developed. The screen flashed and I got the Lenovo splash scree with "Diagnosing your PC" again with the Windows8.1 moving cirle in the middle.  Now I am back to "Choose and Option."
I still can't boot. I am learning a lot about Win8.1 though...

    can this be correct?

It's a problem with Gmail. There is another thread discussing it, but most would rather whine than try to fix it.
Nobody has figured out what is causing it, but there have been various suggestions.
One was to display the All Mail folder if you've hidden it.
You can delete by opt- delete. I think that will delete it immediately.
Another person looked in the user/Library/Mail/V2/ folder.  He had duplicate account folders, having a sequence digit suffix.  He deleted the duplicates and it fixed things.

  • After I updated Windows my Firefox will not load completley, the page is nothing but boxes.

I updated windows 2 days ago and since then all of the pages I try to go to will not load up properly. Everything on the page is boxed off. I am using Windows Vista and have 4.01 Firefox. I already looked at my add-ons and removed or disabled the things that said they were not compatible.

Did you remove the Firefox program folder before reinstalling Firefox?
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 15.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Windows boots but won't load (Black screen with cursor)

[Sorry for the long post, but I feel the need to fully explain my situation]
    I have the following problem:
I turn on my PC, and Windows shows it's normal loading screen, after which it goes into a completely black screen, with just the mouse in the middle. By the cursor size I can tell that it's in a low resolution, probably 800x600 (compared to my usual 1920x1080). I am able to move the mouse around, but with no particular use without something to click on. No other keyboard input seems to work, except for Shift key 5 times, which brings up the Sticky Keys dialog box (with just "Yes" or "No" options, no other link); and Windows key+U which brings up the Ease of Access center. Ctr+Alt+Del does NOT work.
So far this is what I have tried (in chronological order):
Boot into Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Booting in low resolution video, Last known good configuration: all yield the same result as booting normally.
    Repair your computer:
Startup Repair: Found Registry Errors (I realized and fixed this later on)
System Restore: Did not find any previous restore points (I know for sure that there are, I made a habit of making restore points regularly).
Windows Memory Diagnostics: Did not find errors.
    Command prompt:
Ran chkdsk /f /r command, did not report errors.
Ran sfc /scannow : I don't remember the exact report, but it asked for a restart to finish repairing problems. I restarted, and ran the command again for the same result.
Forced the scan with: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows , it found and repaired some errors, still could not load windows.
Ran Dell Startup Diagnostics, found no errors.
Ran Startup Repair again, found the registry errors again. I found the solution to this in a Microsoft Help forum ( answers.microsoft.com/.../f77d5355-b8be-41d6-af24-cae994e1768f ), and fixed the issue. I rebooted, but the problem persists.
Startup Repair now finds no errors. I tried System Restore again, it found 2 restore points dated AFTER my problem started. I decided to restore anyways, but neither of them worked.
    I ran Windows Defender Offline:
Quick Scan: and found 2 threats and removed them.
Full System Scan: found 4 more threats, removed 2 of them, the other two couldn't be removed because they were within an ISO file.
I tried Steps 1, 2 and 3 again with no luck.
With each step I am aware that I'm closer to having to reinstall Windows, so I decided to see if I could still access my HHDD to save my personal files. I made a Linux live CD (with Ubuntu), but I am having trouble mounting the drives, because they are in a RAID0 configuration. "sudo dmraid -s" gives the following error: "ERROR: isw: wrong number of devices in RAID set "isw_dbdffjficc_ARRAY0" [1/2] on /dev/sdb".
    Important Details:
I changed my graphics card about 4 months ago (an Nvidia GTX 750ti for an ATI Radeon HD 6450), and I was told that I may be running short with the Power Supply. The new card asks for a minimum of 450W and I think my PSU is 460W. This may or may not have something to do with this issue, I have no idea.
The RAID0 configuration of my 2 500GB Hard Drives brought me a lot of problems from day 1. One of the HDD would randomly fail (I am able to hear a different clicking sound when this happens), and the computer would crash. Upon startup, it would ask for a boot device. The Dell startup utility would then only recognize 1 of the drives, but would finish without errors. After a restart or two, all would be fine and windows would boot normally (aside from the usual error recovery screen) without any sign of corrupted data or anything. Like I said, this has been happening form the day my PC arrived, but restarting a couple of times always fixed it. As of now, both HHDD seem to be working fine, the Dell utility recognizes both of them, and does not find errors in any of them, and I can access any directory from the command prompt.
Is there anything else I should try before reinstalling Windows?
Before the install, I would really like to be able to recover my files (I have important documents from college), is there any way to do this?
Sorry again for the extremely long post (and for any language errors, English is not my native language), and thanks in advance.

Since you still haven't got your data from the drive(s). I would advise performing a Windows installation without formatting the drive... I don't like this solution but at this stage you have probably tried everything else.
Use a Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD when installing ensure you select...
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
If you do not select any of the drive options and simply highlight the largest partition and select next:
Windows will dump all the old installation files in the Windows.old folder

  • Lenovo g550 windows xp drivers will not load

Help!  I purchased a Lenovo G550 yesterday and am in need of assistance.  Unfortuantely it doesn't appear that there is any way to contact Lenovo, the website doesn't show any method of even emailing them without an IBM service tag (which unless you are corporate user you can't get).
I purchased a lenovo g550 yesterday configuration is 3gb ram 160Gb HDD.  Upon booting the system I discovered that in fact users only get access to about 100Gb of the harddrive the rest is set up under multiple hidden drives.  I the system came with windows 7 home edition.  I need windows xp.  So through several hours of work I was able to create some unallocated space on the harddrive.  I loaded my copy of windows xp professional to this space and since windows automatically selects the drive name it is drive D:
I went to the lenovo website prior to loading xp and manually downloaded every driver from the site (very time consuming, I saw another way via a forum but was not able to locate it on the lenovo website).  Immendiately after loading xp and rebooting I loaded the intel chipset driver.  Then rebooted.  No other drivers will load for any of the other pieces of hardware.  All of THEM, everyone crashes with an error message that there is not enough disk space on c: to load.  I would guess that there isn't since c: is a 200mb hidden drive created by Lenovo.
Does anyone have a work around for this problem with the lenovo drivers?  This has turned into a multi-hour project for something very simple - putting an alternative operating system on the computer.  I cannot put xp as the c: drive because of the lenovo hidden partition is named c:.  I don't want to delete windows 7, as I expect to move to it in the next year but right now I several thousand dollars worth of software in xp and need to use that software.
I sure would appreciate any assistance :-)  Again the issue is the lenovo windows xp drivers, everyone of them excluding the intel chipset driver will not load under windows xp when windows xp is loaded onto the d: partition.  they all say they want to load onto the c: parition which is not an option.
thanks in advance for any help and if anyone knows how to get in contact with lenovo would love that also.

Well if you do not want win7 all together, then just delete all the partitions and install your XP. But if your not wanting to mess up this drive to be able to use the win7 later then just buy a cheap HDD to put XP on. --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148452 $10 off and free shipping. but being that you already tried installing XP then you already messed up win7 anyways(if you did not make the restore disks), your better off just deleting and redoing XP.

Have the company who changed the HD fix it.  There are so many things it could be they would be the only ones who would know what they did to it.

  • Updated windows. Firefox gives "Problem loading page" error everytime now.

my computer told me that windows updates were available and that I needed to restart so I did. When the restart was complete firefox doesn't work at all now. It jut gives me the "Problem loading page" error no matter what website I visit. I have tried removing it from my windows fire wall and re-adding it but that did not help. I also try to uninstall firefox and reinstall but that didn't help either.
I am using Widows 7 for what it's worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Try these in order.
Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
    Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''Network.'''
Look for '''Configure How Firefox Connects''' and press the '''Settings''' button.
    Check the settings.
Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-firewalls-so-firefox-can-access-internet Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.]''' {web link}
    '''[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems]''' {web link}
    Save the file. Then;
Using your file browser, open the '''Programs''' folder on your computer.
    '''Windows:''' C:\Program Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Look for, and rename any Mozilla and Firefox folders by adding '''.old''' to them.
    Now run the full installer.
If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 won't open, tried to update software, but software won't load

I have CS6 (not cloud) installed on my computer, I use Photoshop and Illustrator regularly with no problems.  I recently got a freelance job that requires me to use Dreamweaver.  I've used it in the past but it's been some time since I've opened the program.  Recently I've tried to launch CS6 Dreamweaver and the Application won't open, but my Illustrator and Photoshop programs open just fine.  I tried to update my software through the Adobe Application Manager but its claiming that the update has failed and cannot be applied.  Is there a reason my applications are not working properly?

  • ITunes tells me it has a new update . . . but won't load it.

The Updater says 10.2.2. is available to me, but when I ask it to download the new iteration, the window then says that no updates are available.  What am I missing? I have closed the program, restarted, and tried with and without my iPad connected. Nothing.

Yes, I tried all that several times.  I finally simply downloaded and reinstalled iTunes 10.2.2 (my application kept telling me that I had had 10.2.1(1), even though my update history said that I already had 10.2.2.

  • Firmware 1.0.2 Update Crashes iTunes and Won't Load on 80G Classic

Updating to 1.0.2., when iTunes tries to install the update on my new 80Gb iPod Classic, I get an unknown error message: 1462 ("iPod could not be updated") and iTunes freezes. Just before iTunes freezes, the display on my iPod indicates that it is ejecting. Once the iPod icon vanishes from my desktop, iTunes stops responding.
I know. I know; I'm still running with crazy-slow USB 1, but I see other folks with USB 2.0 are having the same problem. So I don't think we can blame this problem on that.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a solution. ~Shawn

    hi,
i've got this problem, but the above fix doesn't seem to work for me.
nothing happens when i try to put the ipod into "disk mode".
well, to be fair, if i try the above instructions when it's
not connected, the screen goes blank, then comes back on when
i release the buttons. nothing happens at all if the ipod
is connected. [update: after some searching, i did manage to
put the ipod into disk mode - reset ipod (select+play for 10s),
press select+play immediately on seeing apple logo)...
but i still get exactly the same error trying to update.
for the record, i did the following
    1) clicked Install the new version (1.0.2)
    2) itunes hung up totally. i left it for 5-10 minutes or so. no indication that it was doing anything at all.
    3) the ipod was in interactive menu mode, indicating that it was fine to disconnect, so i disconnected.
    4) an error instantly came up in itunes saying cannot install (error 1462, i think)
    5) now every time i try to install, i get the same error (after the "Extracting software" dialog has appeared.
surely loads of people must have had this problem?
    any suggestions?

    Hello CRG37,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
