Did my laptop commit suicide?

Here's what I have:
HP Pavilion dv7-3079wm laptop with Windows 7 x64 system.
My system restore disks that I purchased from HP.com could not load (would freeze at 2% or 3%) and would say that preload/base.wim failed to load to the hard drive.
I was suggested by an HP "expert" on the forums to try running a killdisk and rerunning the system restore disks.
Again, the killdisk worked, but the system restore disks continue to stop loading at between 2% to 3% with the same above message and my laptop is now unusable.
What now?

Here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. The Image source is - Digital River.

Please Help with backing up before I commit suicide

I have an MBA and just bought Time Capsule thought it would be good idea to back up my research studies and to store my important files. I have a BT Home Hub which is connected to the TC by Ethernet. It started backing up but the process was interupted many times. One time the MBA got frozen. The other time it quitted unexpeditely. I have 36.67GB and the highest data backed up was 656MB and the backing up was interrupted. I Left it overnights to back up but without anu success and it seems everytime resume backing up it starts from the scratch not from where it stopped. I have connected my MBA to the TC by Ethernet but the Ethernet ligh in the TC is off. I want to get this **** to back up my MBA as I stored one important file in it and I had to reset it and the file was not saved properly.
I m loosing my temper with this so called TC. I have erased it and i want to start from the scratch and see how it will go.
I want adives on the best quikest way to have it backup my MBA and then after finishing backup I want to set it up to use the maximum of it.
I have in the house 4 laptops including my MBA and I want to access it while away.
Please help!!
As I speak it started backing up and now it is 1.7MB out of 36.67GB

I am sorry to hear about your trouble. There are so many of us who have been trying very hard to get this device to work with no resolve. I too am in that boat,and I have a tremendous amount of time to work on it. There does not seem to be a way past these simple little error screens that pop up after a 12-14 hour backup,or preparing for 5 hours,or stopping at the very end saying something like backing up 136mb of 136mb,and that runs for endless hours with no backup. Seems to be some pretty common issues but know one seems to know how to fix us. It is broken.It was broken out of the box as far as backups go. Seems to work very well as a wireless router and space heater but backups not a chance it seems as of right now,I wouldn't trust even if it did backup,sure as shootin' we would see the error screens on the other end then!

Why did my laptop start asking for application manager?

I had an old Macbook with CS5 on it for a long time and it worked fine. Then I did a recent migration to a new Macbook Air, and suddenly a couple weeks later a sign comes up, a box, saying I need a newer version of appication manager. I did not even now what that was, so I googled it and found it and downloaded it. Then a sign came up saying I had CS5 on more that 2 computers. So I chatted with Adobe a few times, wasted many hours— they said they reset the license, it still never went away. I finally just de-installed CS5 off the macbook air, as delete applications manager and the macbook air is now just running an old copy of CS3. Should I try to re-install CS5, it kind of worreies me now. Maybe I should just wait till I get CS7? thats the next Photoshop I am going to buy. thanks.

Chris Cox is correct. When you do a migration tool/Time Machine, few important files may not transfer correctly. Hence as I suggested above uninstall the software and run Adobe Cleaner Tool and re-install from the Original media.
Regarding "Too many activations" error. You can install and activate the software on 2 computers and use simultaneously. If you have any changes to your computer like Hard Drive replace or upgraded your OS without deactivating the software, you may not be able to activate on the new computer. Hence you need to contact Adobe Customer Service to make few changes to your license which allows you to activate the software on new computer.

Why did my laptop mouse cease to scroll as soon as I upgraded to 4.0?

As soon as I upgraded, the scroll sensor on my laptop mousepad stopped working.

I also updated to iTunes 8.2.0 today and am getting the same message. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice to no avail. Quicktime v7.6.2 is installed and working properly. No idea what to do now.

My computer died and so did my laptop. i need to deactivate my photoshop code by contacting customer support as i can't do it myself but can't find out how.

i can only use my photoshop serial code twice and need to deactivate it first before being able to instal on my new computer. Normally you'd do this yourself but i can't get into my old computers at all.
how on earth do i get to speak to a rep

I currently have CS3 and would like to upgrade to CS4 if it agrees with my system. My specs are:
Q6600 @3.2Ghz
ASUS P5E WS motherboard
4GB DDR2 800mhz
4 500GB drives (7,200)
8800GT nVidia
XP x64
Do you have similar specs and run CS4?
Are you having problems?
Do you want to kill yourself because it would be easier than going back to CS3?
Like it or Love it, what are your specs?

Everything is on four 500GB, 7200-rpm drives setup as a single 1-TB Raid 10.
And yes, I know that "officially" XP x64 Professional is not supported, however, when I spec'd the computer and had it built and delivered in early September, there was no indication from Adobe that they were going to abandon X64 with CS4 (Thank you Adobe!).
Since I had just paid for and had a working installation of X64, I was not of the mind to invest the time and money to go to an untried, resource hogging OS just to have flashy icons, so when Production Premium CS4 arrived in mid October, I installed it and everything, except Premiere, worked perfectly.
Photoshop 64-bit is amazing! And rock solid. I love that the Clone Stamp shows you what it will look like before you apply it and that the fonts all show previews.
After Effects runs my 1280x720p footage at 25 - 30 fps and exports Composition/Make Movie using the LEAD MJPG codec perfectly. Never any problems whatsoever.
Encore works flawlessly, although I admit I'm just scratching the surface of how to use it.
And, once I got a clearer picture of how Dynamic Link works from an Adobe employee who actually knew how it worked, rather than the poorly written descriptions in all the Adobe documentation, even DL has been stable and usable.
Only Premiere has ever crashed.
Only AME has failed to export using the MJPG codec. Before the update, it too would crash. After the update, it exports about 1-minute's worth of timeline, and then reports a "disk full" error.
As long as I am working with DV footage, everything is fine in Premiere. And as long as I export hidef footage as UYVY uncompressed through AME and compress the output later in the workflow, everything is fine.
So, Officially supported or not, XP x64 works just fine.
But, the point of my original post is that a number of people are having timeline playback problems and perhaps the audio has more to do with it than the video card/drivers.
Thought they might like to know in case it might help solve some issues. :)

I have 2 entities (obviously only part of my Entity Relationship Diagram) Cow and Herd. A herd could contain 1 or many cows but a cow could belong to a number of different herds.

Broken laptop and Iphone..how to restore

So in a span of a couple days, my iphone 5 died and so did my laptop. I have a new phone and installed itunes on new laptop BUT I need to be able to access my old restore points from my old laptop. I was able to have the hard drive copied to an external so I still have my old itunes folder. Is there a way to restore my new phone from an old backup on a new laptop? When the old phone worked, I backed up everything to the old computer. Now neither are alive and I lost thousands of pics.

Device backups are stored at \Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.
If you copy this folder from your recovered hard drive into your current profile then open iTunes then hopefully you should see the device backups listed under Edit > Preferences > Devices.
If they don't show automatically then I'm sure there is a way to coerce iTunes into recognizing them.

COMM API problem

I am hoping you can help me with following. I am trying to transfer files from one computer
to another using a serial port and hence I am using the communications api. I have gotten so
many errors on the problem. I have followed the information for installing the api but I
still get errors. It will let me compile a file but when I try to run it it give me the
following error
NoClassDeffounder found
What my lecturer did was opened up the jar file and put them into a separate folder. We then
put them into the bin directory in the jdk.
Everywhere in the code where it was calling a class,constant belong to the api we did the
following
comm.CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers();
In the above line comm is the folder with the class files
When we try to tun it now it executes.But it still cannot find any ports whatsoever
Please can anyone at all help. I am stuck on this problem for over a month and is slowing me down

HT5096 I back up wrong one. I select wrong file when I restore my whole files to my desktop. Right now my desktop looks like my laptop. How can I restore or back to my old desktop?

SAVE / COMMIT further problems

I am using JDeveloper 3.1 to create JSP applications using the wizard for business components for JSP application.
I want to amend the generated application in the following ways :
1) On pressing the SAVE button, a COMMIT is automatically performed. Or the Save and Commit to occur together.
2) Once the data is committed I want to stay on the record I have commited.
To resolve the issues above I found the solution of setting the Module properties file parameter to IsStateLessRuntime=true from IsStateLessRuntime=false.
This did save and commit together but caused the following problems.
a) On inserting a record, I still did not get back to the inserted record on Save (On Editing a record it was fine).
b) The application was much slower
c) When I tried to insert a child record, on Save, I got the error message :
JBO-27021 : Failed to load CustomDayum value at index 1 with java object of type oracle.jbo.domain.Number due to java.sql.SQLException. Exhausted ResultSet
Anyone have any ideas ?

Laptop-mode-tools and hdparm -B settings

Since the change to systemd (I think so), I have a problem with laptop-mode-tools and hdparm. The hdparm -B settings (settings to park the hard drive) are most of the times not applied on startup of my laptop. But: sometimes the setting in the config file of laptop-mode-tools is applied.
These configs I have in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf:
# Power management for HD (hdparm -B values)
BATT_HD_POWERMGMT=254
LM_AC_HD_POWERMGMT=254
NOLM_AC_HD_POWERMGMT=254
If I check the settings of hdparm after starting my laptop (sudo hdparm -B /dev/sda), most of the times the setting is 128. Because I am afraid that my hard drive will damage with this setting, every time I have to do 'sudo systemctl restart laptop-mode.service'. After that, the setting of hdparm -B is 254.
Does anybody know something to solve this annoying problem? Thanks in advance!

You could write an udev rule. That's what I did, although laptop-mode-tools was giving me the same result - I just wanted to reduce the list of services for the sake of boot speed.
Mine looks like this:
/etc/udev/rules.d/75-hdparm.rules
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sda", ATTR{queue/rotational}=="1", RUN+="/sbin/hdparm -B 254 /dev/$kernel"
You might have to change "sda" according to your system.
Disclaimer (and friendly hint): I didn't come up with this by myself, I had to borrow it from somewhere on this forum.

Kjs threads errors and suicides

iAS 6 sp2 running iPM will start reporting thread errors on kjs without any meaningfull message. It just prints this: 'Exception in thread "Thread-##" '
(xx is a number)
Also my kjs processes "commit suicide" without any reason. Sometimes as soon as they come up. No particular order or

Are you using external threads in your code. Specially, this type of errors happens when you use external threads, and if you use ejb lookups in your threads.

Configuration commit auto-save filename

We found a couple issues with this command. The first is pretty major. If you do a 'commit' it works as expected and you get a backup copy of your config to your location of choice. Alternatively, if you do an 'end' followed by 'yes' nothing happens. Your changes are committed, but since you did not type 'commit', no backup is generated. Can we get a bug fix for this so that any commits, even if you don't explicitly type 'commit', generate a backup file?
Works:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:ASR9K-1(config-if)#commit
This could be a few minutes if your config is large. Confirm? [y/n][confirm]y
Does not work:

The other issue is with using this command when your FTP server is on a VRF. The syntax you need is as follows:
configuration commit auto-save filename ftp://username:[email protected];VRF_NAME/folder/file.extension
The command reference documentation could use this update.

What code are you currently on and what code do you plan to move to in the future?
Very few people use the commit auto-save but I can look into this with that development team to see if we can get this enhancement added; I imagine it has to do with the order in which the saving happens.
The reason people don't use the auto-save is because it does not generate a unique name. If that is also something you are interested in I could talk to the DEs about adding a knob for adding the timestamp to the file name.
I'm not in front of a router right this second so I don't recall if there is a keyword for VRF in that CLI string, but I do agree that the ;VRF_NAME is very well hidden in the command docs. I'll talk with the doc team to get this fixed.
