Did my Mac Pro (early 2009) come shipped with built-in Wi-Fi?

I was pretty sure when I first started using my Mac pro (early 2009) that I had built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. I know for sure I was able to print wirelessly to my Brother HL 2070N B&W laser printer. I have always used Ethernet to my modem for internet mostly because I believe to get a more reliable signal strength. Over the years I have upgraded from the factory OSX to mountain Lion and then to Mavericks and somewhere (not sure exactly when) I have lost any and all Wi-Fi capabilities. Thinking perhaps Mavericks was the problem I have since Downgraded to Mountain Lion. Much to my dismay - after a clean install - It was clear to me Wi-Fi was no longer available. It was shaded during the set-up process after start-up. The Wi-Fi Icon does not show up in the top tool bar on the mac screen and the option for Wi-Fi does not show up in System Network preferences. I even went as far as try to re-install the top toolbar icon via "Library, Core Services, Menu Extras". It now shows a hollow icon when clicked on says "WiFi: no hardware installed".
Is it possible I need a new card installed?
or, could it be something as simple as changing my internal battery? can I do this myself?
I have already tried re-setting SMC. I don't think it worked because I have difficulties with my power button (another problem over the years) in which power & light doesn't always come on right away. It takes several tries and plugging / unplugging USB devises. This has been a whole other issue; perhaps for another discussion.
I have also tried re-setting NVRAM / PRAM.
I have run out of ideas (and USB ports) at this point - could use some expert advise.
Thank you in advance.

Some info at the above link on various wifi upgrades. If you are having USB issues, maybe the Asus PCIe card would be worth considering. Otherwise, I'd suggest one of their USB adapters (I have two).

  • My mac pro early 2009 keeps restarting with an unknown error

CPU will start up and stay in log-in mode with no issues. Once you log in the CPU will stay on for a few minutes and then restart itself for no apparent reason.

Pull the system drive. Or try command R to get into Recovery Mode (or use Option key)
Try your backup clone. If you don't add that to your to do list and for now get out your OS X Install flash drive you saved and made or your DVD if you are on Snow Leopard.
System is one thing. CPU refers only to the processor(s), not the disk drive which sounds to be corrupt, not the gpu which also could be an issue on yoru Mac Pro model (tell us - 2008 3,1 or whatever it is).
Panic or Prohibitory sign could be further hardware issue, or just need to see if it will try with no hard drive and look for "?" a system to boot from.
Reset SMC also in cases like this.

I am having trouble sending an audio signal from my computer (mac pro early 2009) to my TV.  Is there some interface or adapter that allows /enables the audio input from my computer to be sent to the TV (R,L signal?) any suggestions

just  the audio, eh?. If you were using DVI or DisplayPort that might be different, but for audio alone, it shouldn't be that hard.  Just grab a 3.5 mm stereo plug to 2 rca cables adapter. Plug the smaller end into the back of your Mac Pro (or the Front), where you see either the headphone or speaker icon). Alt-click on the speaker icon at the top of your screen to show all audio inputs and outputs. Make sure it's set to Line Out.  Plug the red and white end into the audio in jacks on the back of your tv and set it to the correct input. I don't know if your tv will allow just the audio to play. Usually one has to connect up something else, but hopefully I'm wrong.  If you were using DVI, or DisplayPort, you'd need an active DVI--HDMI adapter or a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but
    I don't know for sure

  • Windows XP Installation problem on Mac Pro (Early 2009)

I am wanting to install Windows XP on 400GB of my hard drive in Bay 2
I have 2 hard drives in my Mac Pro. The 1st one came pre-installed and I got a 1TB Western Digital SATA and formatted it as Mac OS Journaled. I used The Bootcamp Utility to make a Windows partition on my 2nd hard drive.
Once I do that I insert the Windows XP SP3 install disc to install it and it says it cannot install it because some random file is missing that is a random bunch of letter and numbers and it says I should erase the partition and try formatting it again. While I'm still using the Windows XP install disc I try doing this it does not work and then when I boot back into Snow Leopard the Bootcamp partition is still there.
Is this not possible? Or is the only way to install Windows XP on the hard drive in bay 2 by formatting the entire drive for Windows?

Since the Vista recovery works fine there must be a problem with the XP installation CD created by nLite. And yes this installation CD was not good. I created it with all current Security Patches and with all available Toshiba Satellite A200 Windows XP drivers. Obvisiously i picked up a wrong driver. May a 64-bit one.
    I tried this:
First I created a new Windows XP disc only with the Toshiba Storage Manager driver. This XP Installation works.
Then I created again a Windows XP disc will all Security Patches and all Toshiba Drivers. I doubble checked that I did NOT picked up a 64-bit driver. And this disc works. Thanks all.

  • Best option for wireless Mac Pro early 2009

I didn't but the airport card when I bought my Pro, but find myself needing a wireless connection.
    What is the best option?
I see many USB adapters cheap, but have heard that reliability has been an issue with many of them.
I've heard of issues with 10.6.x (and I need 64bit too) with some PCI adapters.
Should I try to find one of the airport express cards that shipped with it as a BTO option? I have the skill to dismantle the computer to install it myself.
I'd like to go the cheapest route, but don't want to chase down drive or other issues repeatedly; I've gone through that mess with "bargain" routers before.
I'd need it to work with boot camp too.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously you can find your way around inside one of these things, so yeah -- you're probably better off just shopping for the best deal online.
I think you have to be careful about the connection wires -- they're referred to here, in step 5

  • Weird Font behaviors /  Mac Pro (Early 2009) NEC LCD2690WUXI

Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz 8 GB Ram. GeForce GT 120 NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXI Monitor.
System fonts unresolved (not crisp) ghost-like, "rainbow colors". Targeted to the new Mac Pro from my G5. Some fonts tested corrupt. Then tried a clean install of the OS. Fonts tested fine, problem persists. Hardware tests passed. Started up from "test account" same problem. Checked connections, popped the hood, checked the card (well seated) Went to the NVIDIA site to look for drivers for the GT 120 (none there for Mac OS, what's with that?) System fonts with this monitor on the G5 were as crisp and clean as you would expect.
Really at my wits end. Is the card bad? Some sort of incompatibility with the monitor? Connection issue. I did hook the Mac Pro up to my old LaCie CRT and it looked OK. Wow. Any thoughts? Anyone?
    Thanks In Advance,
    Daniel

    Dear Phatpurrly,
I don't know where you can find a cheep Vista copy; I personally don't use this far too expensive beta-software (I bought a Mac to be able to avoid Microsoft in the first place).
But for you as a MacPro owner it's a possibility to discover if this is a hardware or software problem. There are also some threads in this forum pointing at issues with specific monitors not recognized to be a computer monitor but only seen as a television screen!
Apart from that: Yes, you should have gone for the ATI Radeon card in the first place, but that's my personal opinion after years of experience in the graphic industry. NVidia might be good for gamers, but certainly not for serious work on that, may I say, excellent and expensive screen you own.
    Best regards,

  • Power issues with Mac Pro (early 2009)

I have a problem that seems to be related to power issues. I have to disconnect the power cord for a few hours, then, I connec it again and turn on the mac. I have replaced the power supply (by a certified technician) and the problem seemed solved. Nonetheless I added a fourth disc drive and the problem presented again. I have two video cards a 20" cinema display and a 24" LED display (Apple) connected to a GT120. 10 GB RAM.
Every time I connect the computer there is an Inrush alarm in the UPS I have it connected to.
Does anybody else have had with this issue?

As Allan mentioned, the UPS is way too small for the task. I've seen mention of folks who have 1300's that are fine, but target recommendation (and what I plan to get soon) is 1500. Also, make sure you don't have a laser printer plugged into the same UPS.

  • I changed my Mac Pro early 2009 to Mac Pro 2013.

    After migration my Photoshop CS5 won't start again. I've error code : 213 :5 .

    never migrate adobe products.
undo whatever you've already done.  then run the cleaner and properly install ps cs5, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
if you need the cs5 installation files and if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

  • My mac pro early 2009 graphics fan is very loud

I think something might be wrong with the video card. The fan is very loud at all times and gets louder on flash or video sites. The fan speed is usually double the other fans.

Try smc reset to see if the fan slows down.
Add something like iStat Pro (or iStat Menus, Hardware Monitor, etc.) to measure the fan speeds and some of the temperatures.  Note none of these can measure the video card fan speed directly but knowing the various temps might indicate why it's thinks it needs to rev up.

  • Mac Pro early 2009 won't boot after running 1.8.2 update

It even does not get into recovery mode. A grey screen with dots appear.

Hold down the Option key at Startup.  This invokes the Startup Manager, whose code is all in ROM. It will then draw an Icon for each potentially bootable drive.
If there are defects on the screen during this process, you probably have a Hardware problem.

  • What drive in Mac Pro early 2008 or 2009?

I purchased a Western Digital Black 1Tb SATA hard drive and it did not work in any of my three Mac Pros (two are Early 2008, one is early 2009). It made a strange noise and was never seen by Disk Utility no matter what I did.
There are already three other drives in these machines, some of them are Western Digital drives and they work fine, but they were purchased years ago.
I returned the drive and purchased a Western Digital Red 1Tb drive in replacement. I chose a Red because I will be setting up a RAID system soon but needed it temporarily as storage in the Mac Pro. It didn't work at all in the Mac Pro Early 2008. At first it seemed to work but at restart, the system said the disk was not formatted, although I had formatted it successfully (but it really took a long time) with Disk Utility.
On the Mac Pro Early 2009 formatting was difficult. I tried to make two partitions instead of one and finally managed to format it and even copy some files to it. But Disk Utility couldn't verify it and Disk Warrior said it was having problems because of disk malfunction.
Apparently, I should be able to put a 1Tb disk in these machines, and the SATA 3 drives are supposed to be compatible with the SATA 2 of the Mac Pros. But it doesn't work although we spent hours trying everything and reading everything we could find on the subject.
My question is: are these drives supposed to work in older Mac Pros from 2008 and 2009?
If not, what drive should I purchase for these machines? I need a quiet, fast drive.
    Thanks.
    Ellen

Yes, I'm aware that SSD is the way to go. I have one (OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD), 480 GB, as my boot disk. It has the system and all my apps, plus my virtual machines for Windows. These are used very little, only to check if things we put on the web are OK in the various Win Browsers. But they need to be fast because otherwise, I'll go nuts.
About using SSD for Photoshop's scratch, I seem to remember reading something saying that it will reduce the drive's life somewhat. I don't know how much or if it matters, or if it's the better choice anyway.
Actually, the reason we still have these old Mac Pros (two for work, one for the server) is that, every year, we hoped to see some major improvement and put off upgrading because we didn't feel the new ones announced year after year would change our life.
We've been using Macs for almost 30 years now. The first was a Mac Plus 512k, in January 1985. (My first computer (in 1981) was a ZX81, with 1k of RAM... I did get a 16 k plug in extension though). We usually upgrade when the specs show a speed improvement of at least 4X, or when the architecture changes radically. All this to say we are now waiting to spend all our Christmas money on some shiny new tubular Mac Pros. We will then have to reconsider our whole setup,  and add some external Thunderbolt drives. At that time, I'll be back to discuss the best options. Till then, this will do.
And the reason we tried a Red was because we thought maybe we could use it later on a dedicated machine used only for music over the network. The drive is used just about continuously all day long. Bad idea obviously.
