Did my refurb PowerBook come with complete install disks or upgrade disks?

The 12" PB I purchased in January came with 10.3.X installed but the included DVDs have 10.4. I have been using 10.3.9 until now and will want to upgrade to 10.4 in the near future. How can I tell if they are full install disks. The number on the disk is: 2Z691-5517-A. I'd like to know what to expect.

The only discs which are not the full install say Upgrade or Update on them. Even those are capable of an Upgrade and Install and Archive and Install when it comes to 10.4. They can't install though on an erased drive Tiger directly, and need 10.3 installed first before they can install.
Before upgrading, follow these tips:

  • My 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch didn't come with an install disk?

I opened up my MacBook Pro today as a christmas present. All was going well, until I wanted to do Boot Camp. Well, since the Windows support software download always starts to hang, (My internet isn't slow) I can't get the drivers installed. Windows is installed perfectly, however. I'm just really curious on why it didn't come with an Install disk.

If you're completely computer savvy, here you go:

You should also make yourself a USB recovery assistant first.

Macs which come with 10.7 preinstalled don't include install disks. Everything you need is either on Lion's recovery drive or the web.

  • Did OS 9.1 come on SAME install disk as OS X (10.0.3)?

Sorry, this is an embarrassing question..
I recently eBayed my old OS X system disk (v. 10.0.3). As I recall (and the manual stated) system 9.1 was included with the OS X system software so that one could still run the classic apps. Anyone know if 9.1 and OS X were on the SAME disk? I thought they were, but buyer is asking for 9.1 disks..
    Thanks for your help!

The buyer is correct. Only starting with 9.2.2 in July 2002, did Mac OS 9 come on the same restore discs. Furthermore if your 10.0.3 didn't look like * it is designed only for use with the Mac in question labeled on your disc. A separate 9 disc was bundled with earlier Macs and in the Mac OS X 10.1.5 and earlier retail package.
Furthermore, hardly any Mac OS X software is designed to work with 10.0.3. Mac OS X really didn't come into its own until 10.2. 10.0.3 is more for a curiosity, than a functional version of Mac OS X.

Did my macbook come with a install cd?
If so I've lost it and will need to look for it.
If not then I won't bother looking!
    Thanks.

Hi BenLeeke: Yes, your MacBook should have come with an Install DVD. Depending on the age of the MacBook it may have shipped with Tiger, 10.4

I recently bought my iPad Air in Dubai but it does not come with FaceTime installed. Is there any way I can download it?

You can't download FaceTime. It is a preinstalled app. If you live an a country where it is restricted - that is why you do not have the app on the iPad.

  • Can i wipe powerbook g4 w/o install disk?

I have a g4 powerbook. It works great and I've never had any problems on it. But over the years it has become very slow, esp. when running processor/memory intensive programs such as PS CS4 and Maya.
I have since moved on to a MBP.
I am prepping my g4 to give to my 89 yr. old grandpa and would prefer a clean install (wipe out all my data). I did purchase a Tiger disk some years ago, but the chance of finding it quite slim. Is there any way to wipe my powerbook w/o the install disk or Tiger disk? or should I just shell out $ to buy it? does anyone even sell it still?
    Thanks
    Thanks for the help

It would be worthless without the Install Disc, the License to use it actually goes to the holder of the Install Disc.

    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
If it meets Leo's requirement you might be able to call Apple & still get a copy of that.

  • Does macbook pro 13 come with an installation disk?

i just got it from amazon
but there is not operating system disk
does it come with an installation disk?

Depends on the Mac OS X version...if it is Lion, 10.7.2, no there is not an included install disk, there is a recovery partition containing a copy of the Mac OS X on the hard drive.
If it has Snow Leopard, 10.6, yes there should be an install disk.

  • Is it true that your computers dont come with windows reinstalation disks

I am a fan of open source *nix systems
and was reading that most hp and other systems dont come with windows reinstalation disks
    is this true?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As long as you have the recovery discs, there will not be a problem putting the original operating system back on the unit.

  • IMac won't startup with SL Install Disk

I purchased SL for my 20" Intel core-duo iMac and can't get the computer to get past the startup screen (grey apple with spinning bars) with the install disk. It starts up fine using the original system disk, and I've repaired the hard drive and tried to repair the permissions (some won't fix), but I wasn't worried since I was planning to run an archive and install. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be related to my hard drive?

no, it couldn't have anything to do with the hard drive. the hard drive is not involved in booting from the DVD. first try cleaning the dvd and then try booting again. if that does not help boot from the main hard drive, insert the dvd and verify it with disk utility. also checksum it with disk utility. (Images menu->checksum). most likely it's a bad dvd.

  • HT3986 can bootcamp be used with Windows install disk on an external drive (internal is broken) ?

can bootcamp be used with Windows install disk on an external drive (internal is broken) ?

With Boot Camp, you must install Windows onto in internal HDD (or SSD).  If you are referring that your internal Optical drive is broken, you might be able to install Windows from an external drive, but you might not.  I have heard varying levels of success with that.  I'm not sure what the official stance is, but I do know that if youe machine shipped with an internal optical drive, then you must use that to install Windows using Boot Camp and not swap it out for a "data doubler" and try to install from an external optical drive.
