Did the fan controls change with 10.4.10 ?

It seems that my fans are always running pretty high since the last two system updates. They are typically over 3000 RPMs lately...and the noise is noticeable and irritating. Even with all apps closed.
This is on a 2.4GHZ Core 2 Duo with 4G RAM. I am using the MBP with a 23" Cinema display. The fans did not become noisy until recently, and I have not changed my computing habits or installed new apps, which is why I suspect the latest system updates.
Has anyone else seen this?

Hi, Andrew -
The original OS that came with a G4/400 (AGP) model was either OS 8.6 or OS 9.0.4. If your original disk is for OS 9.0.4, you can install that and update it to at least OS 9.1 (using a download update) in order to be able to use it a Classic under OSX (Classic must be OS 9.1, 9.2.1, or 9.2.2).
You can also use a retail OS 9.1 or OS 9.2.1 Install CD.
The installer on those disks runs only when the machine is booted to OS 9; it will not run when the machine is booted to OSX. The trick is that you must boot the machne to the OS 9 Install CD.
Once you have booted to the OS 9 Install CD. select to do a Clean Install. This will not harm the installed OSX or any other files in any way, and avoids a confusion problem that the OS 9 installer may have.
Article #58176 - Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9: Performing a Clean Installation
It is possible that after booting to the OS 9 Install CD, the hard drive's icon will not appear on the desktop. When this happens, it is almost always because the hard drive has been re0initialized using OSX's Disk Utility, and the option to install OS 9 drivers was not selected.
Article #106849 - Disk Is Available in Mac OS X But Not in Mac OS 9
If you do not update past OS 9.1, then when booted to OS 9 the Startup Disk control panel in OS 9 will not be able to offer OSX as a selection for the boot OS. The solution for that is to do one of the following -
• Download and install an updated control panel -
Startup Disk 9.2.1 Document and Software
• Download and install the OS 9.2.1 download update (and continue to OS 9.2.2 using its download update, if desired).
In case you need the download updates -

  • How to change a setting in the Java Control Panel with command line

    Hi,
    I am trying to figure out how to change a setting in the Java Control Panel with command line or with a script. I want to enable "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"
    I can't seem to find any documentation on how to change settings in the Java Control Panel via the command line
    Edited by: 897133 on Nov 14, 2011 7:15 AM

    OK figured it out. This is for the next person seeking the same solution.
    When you click on the Java Control Panel (found in the Control panel) in any version of Windows, it first looks for a System Wide Java Configuration (found here: C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment). At this point you must be wondering why you don't have this folder (C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment) or why its empty. Well, for an enterprise environment, you have to create it and place something in it - it doesn't exist by default. So you'll need a script (I used Autoit) to create the directory structure and place the the two files into it. The two files are "deployment.properties" and "deployment.config".
    Example: When you click on the Java Control Panel it first checks to see if this directory exists (C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment) and then checks if there is a "deployment.config". If there is one it opens it and reads it. If it doesn't exist, Java creates user settings found here C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment on Windows 7.
    __deployment.config__
    It should look like this inside:
    *#deployment.config*
    *#Mon Nov 14 13:06:38 AST 2011*
    *# The First line below specifies if this config is mandatory which is simple enough*
    *# The second line just tells Java where to the properties of your Java Configuration*
    *# NOTE: These java settings will be applied to each user file and will overwrite existing ones*
    deployment.system.config.mandatory=True
    deployment.system.config=file\:C\:/WINDOWS/Sun/Java/Deployment/deployment.properties
    If you look in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment on Windows 7 for example you will find "deployment.properties". You can use this as your default example and add your settings to it.
    How?
    Easy. If you want to add *"Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"*
    Add this line:
    deployment.security.SSLv2Hello=true
    Maybe you want to disable Java update (which is a big problem for enterprises)
    Add these lines:
    deployment.javaws.autodownload=NEVER
    deployment.javaws.autodownload.locked=
    Below is a basic AutoIt script you could use (It compiles the files into the executable. When you compile the script the two Java files must be in the directory you specify in the FileInstall line, which can be anything you choose. It will also create your directory structure):
    #NoTrayIcon
    #RequireAdmin
    #Region ;**** Directives created by AutoIt3Wrapper_GUI ****
    #AutoIt3Wrapper_UseX64=n
    #EndRegion ;**** Directives created by AutoIt3Wrapper_GUI ****
    Func _JavaConfig()
         $ConfigFile_1 = @TempDir & "\deployment.properties"
         $ConfigFile_2 = @TempDir & "\deployment.config"
         FileInstall ("D:\My Documents\Autoit\Java config\deployment.properties", $ConfigFile_1)
    FileInstall ("D:\My Documents\Autoit\Java config\deployment.config", $ConfigFile_2)
         FileCopy($ConfigFile_1, @WindowsDir & "\Sun\Java\Deployment\", 9)
         FileCopy($ConfigFile_2, @WindowsDir & "\Sun\Java\Deployment\", 9)
         Sleep(10000)
         FileDelete(@TempDir & "\deployment.properties")
         FileDelete(@TempDir & "\deployment.config")
    EndFunc
    _JavaConfig()
    Now if you have SCUP and have setup Self Cert for your organization, you just need to create a SCUP update for JRE.

  • Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

    I have a Macbook Core Du0 1.83ghz running 10.6.3. Each time I watch a video on youtube or watching Flash or other multimedia animations, my fan run super fast.
    Is it the same with the new Macbook with the Nvidia Geforce graphic card?
    Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

    Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
    Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up.

Now they want only one credit control area ie  XX12,( all customers which are in XX10, should be now with XX12 credit control area) but when  changing the credit control area of a particular customer from  XX10 to XX12, the credit limit and exposure is not displayed in new credit control area. • My iphone/itunes just did the complete new update with Icloud but the icloud icon doesn't show up anywhere on the iphone or my computer even though the install said it is all done and complete.

    The Itunes and Iphone just did the complete new update addiing on Icloud and new applications.  After all was done and it said all was completed - the Icloud icon is not on my iphone screen anywhere nor is it on my computer after I did go to the control panel and set up.   I tried repairing the download and it said all was fine.  What needs to be done to get this all to work.

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the reply.  I did think that could be the case but then other books would also show up as apps on phone but not counted as an app.  Maybe book apps downloaded from the app store work in this way whereas books bought from the ibooks app show in ibooks and not as apps.
    I guess that would make sense, it must be because they are books but downloaded from the app store rather than the book store so they are visible as an app but don't actually get counted as an app.
    Would you think that's the case too?
    Thanks

  • ¿el complemento fan control daña mi macbook pro? Does the fan control plug damaged my macbook pro?

    Agradezco que me saquen de esta duda.

    Hi Phelusia,
    Your fan(s) are always running when the computer is turned on and not in sleep mode. At an idle fan speed (~2000 RPM) you should not be able to hear the fans unless there's a problem with the fan assembly. If there's an audible noise then it's possible that the fan needs to be replaced, especially if you're also having cooling issues with the machine.
    You can run the Apple software update on the Windows side to see if there any new drivers available and you can also run 3rd party 'fan management' programs to try and address any cooling issues. But as you encountered, Apple won't do much to support the Windows side of things.
    I suspect there might be an issue with one (or both) of the fans or a temperature sensor in the machine that's causing things to not behave properly.

  • The Pan controls change by themselves

    Hi.. I'm a fairly new Logic user and I'm having the hardest time with the panning.. Whether on a midi track or audio track, the pan control will move far left or far right at various times..
    Can't figure this out..Can anyone help?
    thanks
    Bryan

    You might want to check to see if a controller is sending pan events. On the Click & Ports page in the Environment check the Input View to see if there are unexpected events there.
    I've had controllers with pots that would send things like pan and volume events when I didn't want them to.

  • Where did the Glide control go?

    Just started using Garageband 10.0.  A previous version included a "Glide" control (slide / glissando / portamento) on the Analog Mono synth generator.  You could slide the pitch of a note, say, from middle C to an octave higher, by holding middle C and then pressing the higher C key.  The Glide control allowed you to set the speed at which the pitch slid from one note to the other.  Such a great feature.  You can tell that some of the new Garageband instruments use glide, like Vintage Synth Bass and Jump Up Bass, but I don't see any control for the glide.  Is there one, or was that removed from new version??

    In iTunes 11, the Power Search option in the iTunes Store has been removed. If you want to tell Apple how you feel about the removal of the Power Search feature, you can use the iTunes Feedback page:

  • TextEdit - Did the "text" font change recently?

    For some personal music, I take a screen shot of a text edit window (not RTF, just text). TextEdit shows the text in it, ina system font or something, and now it's different. You can really tell in the "9" and lowercase "t". I believe this happened when I upgraded to 10.4.9, but I'm not sure. I can't find any other information about the "text" font that TextEdit uses.
    Any ideas?
    J.

    Sorry, I guess my question should be if the Monaco font changed, or if it was previously something else that looked very similar.
    Thanks.
