Did update - now my default is another wireless network?

Did the update and now whenever I re-boot, the default wireless network is someone else's in my building.
How can I change this to recognize my own trusted network as a default????

Also, when someone is at my place (before and after update), whay can't they sign on and pick my wireless network. I give them the password and they stille can't get on...is this normal??? Am I missing something simple?

You can tell it to join your own network via Network Prefs>Airport. In the "By default, join" option, insert your network instead of the "automatic" option.
The second problem sounds security related. What security do you have in place?

You might be able to set up the SMTP server settings in Mail to authenticate with a password. That may get the email through.
In Mail Preferences, Accounts, select the account.
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu and select Edit SMTP Server List
Select the Server and then click the Advanced tab at the bottom.
Select Password authentication and add your details.
You might also want to set a custom port (even if it is one of the defaults)
This solution is normally for an email provider that will not let you send outside of your ISP network, which most prevent. They also must support password authentication of the SMTP server.

Depends on where you are. Most all hotels/motels have wireless. There are Internet cafes, libraries, Starbucks, and many other places providing WiFi service.
In your iPad's Network settings you will usually find displayed all detected wireless systems. Not all of them may be usable unless they provide free access or you have a paid access membership. You should find this discussed in the user manual:

You can configure the AirPort Expess to "Join a wireless network" and enable the Ethernet port so that Ethernet devices will be able to connect.
In order to print from the iOS devices, you will need to have an application like Printopia installed on your Mac. The Mac must be active when you want to print.

There is a free trial available for Printopia, so make sure that it will work before you buy the AirPort Express.

Just did update now cannot play itunes songs???

I just was prompted to do an itunes update. I did this (now I wish that I had not) and I cannot play any of my songs on itunes. Each time I try to play a song I get a message saying...."the song "xxxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be found." Any help is much much much appreciated!!!

Have you been able to find a song file on your system's hard drives?
Are those songs on an external hard drive?

I've noticed that at periods throughout the day my network slows down considerably. I did a wireless diagnostics report and found an external wireless network with a TW (Taiwan) country code is nearby. I'd like to block it. How can I do this?

You may want to check if the adjacent networks are using the same WiFi channel you are using.
Try a utility such as iStumbler.
For 2.4GHz frequences, you want to be on a channel all by yourself and 5 channels away from the strongest signals. That means channels 1, 6, or 11 typically. Outside the US, some countries allow channels 12 & 13, so you may play different 5 channel apart games.
The 5GHz frequencies are better spaced so as long as you are not using the same channel, all is OK.
If you are using channels that conflict, then you can get interference that may slow down your WiFi.
Another approach is to make an Ethernet connection instead of WiFi, and see if your performance improves. If it does, then it may be WiFi interference. If it does not improve, then it may be how fast your Internet connection is working.
I know a lot of people using Cable based broadband that see performance slow down when school lets out and the neighborhood kids start watching YouTube videos and chewing up the shared neighborhood bandwidth.

Airport Express simultaneously with another Wireless Network

I'm working in a space right now where they have a fantastic Wireless Network. Its a D-Link wireless access point that they use, and I am totally satisfied on their network.
However, I need to be able to print wirelessly via my Airport Express.
Is there a way for me to connect to the Wireless LAN and print to the Express without logging off of one network and switching to the other?

But - you CANNOT connect your PC to the Airport Express via ethernet. Period. It's been hamstrung.
All you can do in client mode is play some music, and print. And of course, complain like a raving fool out here on the forums that Apple would even think of doing this.
This is tantamount to purchasing an external hard drive, but having the USB port disabled when the disk is turned on. Jezz...

One wireless network to another wireless network

I have searched other questions and I don't see anything like what im trying to do.
We have an RV that we just got and I am trying to set up a wireless network like what we have in our home but use the Wifi that is included in the campsite(s)
I want to be able to connect our wireless printer, Chromecast, radio... Ect.
Using the camp wifi does not work well with those things if at all.
I have an airport extreme 802.11n (2nd Generation) and an airport express 802.11n (1st Gen.).
What I think will work best is if i can have one router extend or connect to the wifi almost as a modem then wire that to the second modem and set up a second network with a new name. because I also don't want other campers to have access to my media library, or printer, or anything else. and I can see all these people who i can view what is on their computers.
Here is the setup i see:

I'm probably the last person who should be trying to help here - I can't even get my MacBook Pro to connect wirelessly to the iBook which is connected via ethernet cable to the router! However, have you turned on the appropriate sharing options in the Sharing preferences on both machines?

I agree on the updates, I wish it wasn't automatic. I completely, totally agree.
Keep in mind, you can't complain about having CM7 messed up from webOS updates. CM7 is not supported on this hardware by HP. CM7 is all on you.
There was no webOS upgrade in your case. The upgrade was stopped midstream, possibly damaging the TouchPad.
I asked 'why did you do that', because I actually want to know why in the world anyone would ever stop a firmware upgrade. It's like teasing a crocodile with chicken meat and wondering why it bit your hand off. You seem to know your way around technology, so I can't understand why you'd stop a firmware upgrade. I'm sure you know how dangerous that is. I did, in fact, provide a constructive suggestion. But not a solution, because I don't know of one. I haven't run across anyone who stopped their TP's upgrade process midstream. I am sure it's happened before somewhere, I just don't know about it.

VMware Fusion Update, now PC side no longer sees network

I had installed VMware Fusion V 1.1.2 on my MB Pro and had set set up network printing and file sharing. Then a couple of days ago I updated to 1.1.3, and now I can no longer see my work network, and my printer is nolonger there. I can still connect to the Internet on both the PC screen and on the Mac OS X screen. Any ideas what could have changed to cause this to happen?

I need to backup to TC from another wireless network

TC works fine when I am within range of the network, but I want to back up when I am connected to the internet but on another network. TC is always connected (ethernet), is this possible/how do I do it?

interesting scenario. I don't know if this is possible , never tried it but use the Go function>connect to server. Use the ip address found under the internet tab in Airport Utility. Make sure under Finder preference checked "show servers on desktop." type afp://your ip address I'm assuming when TC shows on the desktop then you configure TC on your computer it should be able to select it as a backup drive. Same relative scenario on local network, eh?

first off, are there any MAC apps that would allow me to surf, proxy surf, anonymously? i know there are many available for the PC.
second, is my IP address visible to others on the web if I am connected using someone elses wireless connection instead of mine?

I'm not sure you understand the concept of 'your IP address.'
If you use someone elses wireless connection, almost certainly you will get a ssigned a private (rfc 1918) IP address by their router, and that wireless router will be providing the internet via NAT (network address transalation). IOW, you make a web request, the router changes your private IP address into its public one, waits for the reponse, then sends it back to your private address....So, in that scenario...what do you consider 'your' IP address ?
The wireless routers IP address will be known, yes. Anyone with access to the logs on that wireless router will see your MAC address, and see that you have been assigned an IP address, and have accessed the router ( assumeing they know how to read thier logs.) But no one on the internet should be able to tell that your computer made a particular request from behind that wireless router...there is nothing identifying you in that request that goes out into the internet.
So, perhpas I have the scenario wrong, but if not, I hope that answers your concerns.
