Did Verizon lie about Media Manager?

About a month ago I was told by a Verizon agent that Media Manager would still work and I could continue to use it after it was "retired" on Nov. 1 (as long as I had a working copy of the software on my computer) and that it would be replaced by another app by the end of the year.
Today I've discovered that the Media Manager link has disappeared from the STB menu, which for practical purposes means I can not use it now.  A confusing message from Verizon also announced that customers should switch to the "new" FiOS Mobile app available Nov. 29 (so what are we supposed to do to stream music, etc. for the next 28 days?) while at the same time inviting customers to try it out now.  This message also mentions that the new FiOS Mobile app will have "many" of the features Media Manager used to have, but is vague about just what those will be.  However, if the new mobile app is like the old mobile app, you will need a smart phone to use it, so if you were using Media Manager but don't have a smart phone, are you out of luck?

I don't understand what's going on with Verizon and FiOS when it comes to how customers are treated.  I remember when FiOS started up, the Verizon exec in charge of FiOS purposely set up FiOS customer service so it was a separate entity from Verizon's customer service.  He realized that for FiOS to succeed, poor customer service couldn't be tolerated.  As an example, the main reason I switched to FiOS from Comcast was Comcast's truly horrible customer service and putting up with too many inept service techs.  My earlier experiences with FiOS customer service were so much better.  But now, FiOS customer service seems increasingly tone deaf to its customers.  Case in point, customers that were using Media Manager have been screwed by Verizon when it "retired" Media Manager, not even allowing those customers it was working for to be able to access it, and not replacing it with any alternative.  Then, when customers complain, Verizon has nothing to say (and I know Verizon reps monitor this forum).
Maybe that's why the cable TV business had its worst year ever.  According to Wall Street media analysts Craig Moffett and Michael Nathanson, providers of TV, broadband, and phone communications lost 687,000 subscribers during Q3.  Screwing customers is a bad business model.

  • Question:   What about Media Manager?

Is there any equivalent to Media Manager in FCPX?   What we had wasn't perfect, but was incredibly useful.

So in other words, No.  There's no way to trim unused media while copyng, no way to recompress the media copied to a different codec during the xfer, no way to add handles to media copies - none of the good functionality available in FCP 7.   Media management is completely essential to any editing app, and FCPX doesn't have any.

  • What is media management software?

    Hi all,
I am new to RMAN and I am a bit confuse about media management software that is required to backup to tape. What is it exactly? Is it a backup software like Veritas Backup Exec? Does Oracle provide the media management software on Oracle 9i? Is the integrated backup apps in w2k system tools can be used with RMAN to backup to tape? I am planning to buy HP surestore 8i.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,
From my own personal experience, I suggest you also look at Bakbone's NetVault software: good quality, easy to use. (http://www.bakbone.com/products/downloads.asp) But, yes, media management software is 3rd party software to control tape libraries such as your HP Surestor 8i.
    Rgds,
    Mark

  • Media Manager Retirement

I just learned that Verizon is "retiring" Media Manager.  I use Media Manager almost every day to stream music from my PC to my home theater setup.  How will I be able to stream content from my PC thru my STB after Media Manager is "retired?"

Depending on your version, MS Windows Media Player has this capability.  Also there are a number of free stand-alone applications available online.  Search Google for "DLNA" to get started.

  • Verizon Media Manager won't open in Windows.

My Verizon Media Manager was working fine and all of sudden I get this error message
Verizon Media Manager has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    And the program closes.
Anyone know what the heck is going on? What is the problem?

    Dear toothsave,
Sorry about the inconvenience.  Have you attempted to uninstall and reinstall it?  Have you installed any new software that may have affected your computer?
    Thanks in advance

  • Media Manager not working with new Verizon Curve, Please Help...

Close to returning my new Curve. The Roxio Media Manager will not recognize my Curve at all. I have tried everything, read every post and still nothing. Using version 4.3 of Desktop Manager with Vista Home Premium. Someone please help...
                                                            Thanks for any help

Same issue here.  Contacted Verizon tech support, they had me reinstall media manager -- which did nothing.  They had me try disabling mass media support and the media card support.  Neither which worked.  After 90minutes on the phone, the tech was contacting their "advanced support department" to get more info.  I got fed up and hung up.  Maybe they will call me back -- who knows.
The tech said that they might have to contact RIM to get it fixed.  I am thinking verizon inadvertantly blocked media transferring -- like they do on all of their other phones.  However, VCAST is not available on Blackberry phones for Verizon, so it is a stupid idea if they did it.

  • Music drop outs / stutter when listening to MP3s or Internet Radio with Verizon Media Manager

Does anybody know when I play MP3s or listen to Internet Radio I'm getting slight drop out or stutter?
I just downloaded and installed the Verizon Media Manager on a machine running Windows 7.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Found this answer on DSLReports...
"This problem has reported before. It's a problem with the audio driver for 7XXX boxes that was introduced with IMG 1.9a. It also impacts iHeart radio and Pandora streaming. It is supposed to be fixed in 1.9.1, which is due sometime in the next decade."

  • Verizon Media Manager and Aperture

I just upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture.  Verizon Media Manager (VMM) sort of recognizes Aperture, but not completely.  It finds the Faces and Locations, but not the Projects.  I am using version 9.1.42 of VMM.  I saw in the pinned section that someone was using version 9.2.  Where can I get this version?

    mustbjones wrote:
Yes there is but it says that the update service is temporarily disabled.
Here is the link for the Mac download from Verizon: http://www36.verizon.com/fiostv/web/UnProtected/MediaManager.aspx?os=Mac.  It is likely the current version.

  • Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.

Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.  This started with the latest update.  I see that the desktop icon for Media Manager now has a security shield on it, and it requires UAC confirmation when you start it, which I don't remember the old version doing.
One thing I noticed, msconfig.exe shows that "C:\Program Files\Verizon\McciTrayApp.exe" is set to start at Windows startup, but the desktop icon used to start Media Manager manually has a target of ""C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Media Manager\Release\Verizon Media Manager.exe" Verizon Media Manager".
I don't remember what the previous version was, but this one is 9.4.86.  It asked me if I wanted to update it a few days ago, and I said yes.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try setting the startup option to off and then to on again. It looks to be pointing to a wrong location.
Attached is a partial screen shot of my msconfig setting.

  • "drm device registration failed" Verizon Media Manager android tablet

I get the error "drm device registration failed" using Verizon Media Manager on an android tablet.  Any ideas? You get this error if the device is "rooted" (meaing you have full root access).  There is an app in the Google Play Store that will temporarily allow you to un-root the device, and when done the registration will work.   I use OTA RootKeeper to temporarily un-root and then re-root.  The device must be un-rooted each time you attempt to use the Verizon Medai Manager app to view content.

  • Roxio Media Manager won't run and get error messge about C+++

Error message says Media Manager has requested Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.  Please contact suport team.  I wrote to Roxio about it and supplied screen shots of the message and their response was to contact RIM.  Typical run around.  Same problem on a different computer where I had a working version of BB Desktop Manager and then installed the new 4.7 and started to get the same problem. Would seem this is a RIM problem.  Anyone else out there that knows anything about this error or how to get past it?

  • Verizon Media Manager is setting off my Anti-Virus!

Today I ran a virus scan (using the ESET online Scanner www.eset.com/online-scanner ) and it only showed 1 threat:
the scan results were as follows:
    C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Media Manager\Release\VaultMediaClient.dll
probably a variant of Win32\Genetik trojan
    cleaned by deleting - quarantined
    =========
Why is eset detecting this? Please advise ASAP. This is not the 1st time a Verizon product set off my anti-virus software. Last time it was because of a file delivered in Verizon in-home agent...
    Help!!
    Thanks
    MJ

It's entirely possible that it's a false positive.  You should contact your Anti-virus provider to see what their procedure is for reporting a false positive to them.   They will usually provide you with instructions on how to upload the questionable executable so that they can check it in depth and make the necessary corrections if appropriate.

  • Verizon Media Manager won't install - How do I get photos from my phone memory to my PC?

I'm getting frustrated with my new Droid, HTC Incredible. The salesman said I could just plug in the USB and transfer my photos to and from my computer, that the phone would look just like an external hard drive. False...
I plug in the USB and get an option to open the folders or to install drivers. If I chose to open the folders, I see three external drives - one with an autorun.inf file and a few other files. If I click on the other two drives, I get a message telling me to install a disk in the drive.
If I click, "Install Drivers" I am taken to the VerizonWireless website and instructed to install Verizon Media Manager. Okay, so I try to do that, on my Windows 64 bit OS, and get a message that says,
"This Application does not support 64 bit operating systems - operation aborted" (or something like that).
    So now what?

I apologize you are having problems connecting your device with your PC.
    Try using these steps below:
    Windows 7
Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager.
    Windows Vista
Click Start > (Settings) Control Panel > (System and Maintenance) > Device Manager.
    If prompted, click Continue.
     Windows 2000 / XP
Click Start > (Settings) Control Panel > (Performance and Maintenance) > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
The following devices are normally installed:
    Anrdoid USB Devices
    My HTC
    Disk drives
    HTC Android Phone USB Device
    Modems
HTC Modem (if using as a tethered modem)
    Portable Devices
E:/ (Where E represents the assigned drive letter.)
    Universal Serial Bus controllers
    USB Composite Device
    USB Mass Storage Device
If a red X, yellow ! or yellow ? is displayed to the left of a listed device, a conflict is present and the drivers must be updated or reinstalled.
Driver conflicts may also be indicated by a device entry labeled Other Devices or Unknown.
    1.  If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Sync device continue to step 3. If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Modem ensure the device drivers are installed.
    2.  If VZAccess Manager is installed and a driver conflict is still present, continue to step 3. Right-click the device then click Update Driver Software.
    3.  If using Windows 2000 / XP, right-click the device then click Update Driver.
The device name may differ from the example shown.
    4. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
If using Windows 2000 / XP, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then click Next.
Enter C:\Windows\System32\driver into the search window then click Next.
If using Windows 2000 / XP, ensure that Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search are selected.
    5.  The driver location can be entered manually or navigated to by clicking Browse.
If the driver software is not found, a Windows Operating System update  may be needed.
    6. Click Close.
If using Windows 2000 / XP, click Finish.
Once your done, you should be able to see one of the following choices in  your My Computer:
    Anrdoid USB Devices
    My HTC
    Disk drives
    HTC Android Phone USB Device
    Modems
HTC Modem (if using as a tethered modem)
    Portable Devices
E:/ (Where E represents the assigned drive letter.)
    Universal Serial Bus controllers
    USB Composite Device
    USB Mass Storage Device
You can then sync the device with the PC.
Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable. From the home screen, pull down the window shade (located at the top of the screen).
Touch Disk drive then touch Done.
From File Explorer / Finder on the computer, create a new music folder in Removable Disk (X.
Removable Disk (X represents the SD Card installed in the device. This name may vary.
Use the computer to copy pictures into the newly created folder.
From the home screen, pull down the window shade (located at the top of the screen).
Touch Charge only then touch Done.
Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
