  • Did you know that your iPhone will burn up your USB ports?

I have two Power Macs, Power PC G4s. After backing up my phone on both of these computers, the USB port does not work. What's up with that and how do I get the port to become usable again?

I used three Macs to sync my iPhone 3GS.  I used the two G4s to sync and update. I did use a USB hub on the main G4. Lost a port after each use. Then I used the Intel. After the first use, I noticed that the USB port used did not work after applying app updates. A hub was used during this sync. The message I get on the G4 Open Firmware is :  USB Setup Error: 5c000000 80002. I still have three available and usable ports on the Intel Mac. Just thought it was coincidental that this occurred on both types of Macs. Not going to update or sync on this one again.

Did you know that Verizonwireless is saving your checking account information when you pay your bill by check and then making it part of your "MyVerizon"  without you adding it? This means of course if they get hacked that information could be compromised. What do you think of this?

Credit card and debit card and checking and savings information is encrypted so it is possible to be hacked, but the odds are greater to get hit by the Love Boat then to have a wide scale hack.
Oh yes they do happen, Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, Target and quite a few others. But in all the years I have paid my invoice with saved card information I never been hacked.
You use good passwords and the risk is minimal.
    Good Luck

  • Did you know that the  carrier Verizon offer the merge conference call or internet while on call on the iphone? Only AT

Did you know that you can't use the merge function on a iPhone 4s with Verizon Wireless? They blocked the function only AT&T has it, also Verizon doesn't allow browsing the Internet while on a call like AT&T, huge mistake Verizon. For people that conference call, don't get tricked into changing carriers until Verizon changes this feature.

Not sure about the merging of calls, but being able to browse the internet while on a call can't be done with CDMA technology -- so it's not that Verizon doesn't allow it, it just can't be done on their network. This is old news ...

    Hi,
I have VS2013 update 4 and IE11 installed. When I try to sign in through VS I get the following error.
SP324081: Check that your Internet Explorer security settings will allow JavaScript and cookies. If enabled, please contact support.
I have checked and JAVASCRIPT and cookies are enabled.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Sath12,
If possible, I suggest you reset IE settings.
Please lower the security level. Then I added the site like https://*.visualstudio.com/ to the trusted zones. Test it again.
I have met this issue before which was related to the IE settings or the account issue.

  • Did you know that the Ipad 1 will not be able to upgrade to 6.0 so it will be obsolete within 6 months?

I am pretty upset.  Not very cool of Apple to not annouce that they have Obsoleted the Ipad 1.
    No upgrade process or anything.

Apple said when they announced iOS 6 months ago that it would not be supported on the iPad 1, so it should have come as no surprise to you. But your iPad is by no means obsolete. It does everything that it did on the day you bought it and almost certainly more since there has been two major upgrades to iOS and a number of minor ones since then.
If you get upset about such things easily, then you'll probably want to avoid purchasing any of this sort of device, since all manufacturers similarly stop providing updates a while after the device is discontinued. If fact, Apple provides updates for long than many manufacturers do.
    Regards.

  • Did you know that a phone number from a webpage loads to your contacts?

Very cool - I was looking up the phone number of a restaurant on its web page using my iPhone; the phone displays all telephone numbers as blue links - touch it and the phone dials. But, this I didn't know, the phone also names the number and puts it in your contacts list! No $1.50 calls to 411; no reason to write down or enter the info yourself, it's there! And if you don't want it for some reason, just delete the contact. Who would want that "ZUNE" thing when Apple's products anticipate what you want to do? I love my iPhone!

Interesting - it somewhat works for me.
I have used Safari Google (m) to find a business, clicked on the found link and iPhone took me to the Maps application, tapped the info bubble in the map, and it formatted the new contact for me, Name, phone, address, webpage etc - and gives me the choice to create a new contact or add to existing contact. I've used this feature a few times in the wild, but never noticed the contact being created automatically without a confirmation.
First time it happened I whooped out loud (on the street) - okay, I'm a geek.

  • Did you know that if your phone is stolen, Find my Phone is useless?

Lessons from my lost iPhone. Despite having a pin to unlock the iPhone, you can simply power off the phone with a long press of the power button. Which means that if your phone is stolen and the thief is smart enough to turn it off (is there one who isn't?), 'Find my phone' is virtually useless!
Also, you can use Siri on a locked phone to make phone calls and send messages. There are also enough tips available on the internet that show you how to use Siri to unlock the phone, making all your photos, emails and other information available to anyone keen enough to find it.
I've written to Apple to tell them that a phone lock should really do what it says - LOCK the phone! If you own an iPhone and would like the same please write to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Perhaps when enough people write they'll actually take some notice!

This subject is discussed fairly frequently. Find my iPhone is not useful unless a particularly ignorant thief takes it. It's primary use is to find lost phones, not stolen. Requiring a passcode to turn it off eliminates one way a thief can disable Find my iPhone, but it isn't the only one, and probably isn't the one used by most professional thieves. Among other ways to disable Find my iPhone:
    Remove the SIM
    Wrap in aluminum foil
Drop in a shoplifter's bag or backpack with its Faraday shield (copper mesh or foil lining)
Restore the phone from DFU mode
The Activation Lock feature, which prevents a stolen phone from ever being used again, except by the rightful owner, is the more valuable deterrent against theft. Once word gets around that a stolen iPhone is useless the market value of stolen phones will drop precipitously, and thieves will switch to stealing Android phones.

  • Did you know that TM's browser will NOT back up your sent E-mail messages?

    In Apple Mail anyway.
Since Verizon Yahoo! password fiasco, I decided just re-do my Verizon E-mail account. Figuring if I lost messages that I could bring the messages back in TM's browser.
I lost all my sent messages. I thought okay I'm going to enter my TM's browser and bring them back. However you can't do it for strange reason, the browser only has the NOW going. The pass is greyed out.
I know I should try the hard backup with Leopard's CD, but that's a pain in the butt. Besides I've saved a few E-mails since then too.
My main point is that I thought that TM's browser could restore EVERYTHING on my Mac. I've gotten a little sloppy since TM figuring that I had a good and fast backup system.
If TM's browser doesn't backup everything then Apple needs to tell us what it doesn't back up.

Here is a list of things TM excludes by default:

  • Did you know that Captivate 8 takes virtually all of the work out of creating responsive online courses?

I just saw the Adobe Blog article about Captivate 8 and the statement that Cp8 is an " authoring tool that takes virtually all of the work out of creating responsive courses online".
    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2014/05/the-all-new-adobe-captivate-8-blends-authoring-ea se-with-game-changing-mobile-support.html
Methinks this might be a tad overstating the matter. With responsive e-learning courses you effectively need to build the same course three times for the three different device screen sizes.
    Gotta love marketing people...

Of course it is marketing hype, almost the only feature that everyone is shouting about, but I never did see a work flow, or real time experience described in all those blogs. I never write about some features I didn't explore, so I started with those that are also useful for the many companies that are not turning to mobile or BYOD yet, and have talked about those, including limitation and possible improvements.
However, Rod, I don't agree totally with you. There is work taken out of your hand with the Responsive project work flow in Captivate. Responsive themes, smart positioning, resizing of objects, text, repositioning for phone break point, and testing with Edge Inspect are working pretty well, especially for this first implementation in Captivate (do not expect miracles). And from a usability standpoint, you have to reflect indeed on how the concept has to be, and that is different for each device. Such a mindframe takes a lot more than what a newbie playing for one day with Captivate can realize (as proclaim most blog posts), you don't have to persuade me about that. However I don't agree with your statement  'you effectively need to build the same course three times', but so-called 'single-source publishing' has always been a dream that will never be realized IMO, certainly not for eLearning.
I am busy creating a real responsive tutorial (for Captivate) and will try to explain later on what I learned by doing. Only at that moment I will 'write', marketing is certainly not one of my skills

  • Did you know that using the erase feature for stolen iPads can fail? Mine did and was not detected for 10days.

Thursday(day 1):Had an iPad2 wifi only which I rarely used, stolen.
minutes later, pulled up findmyphone on iCloud and put a lock on iPad and then erased the iPad.
Sunday(day4) : I noted websites opened on my iphone that I had not opened.
Monday: Spooked, I went to genius bar was informed that it would have been wiped since the thief had been hooked to wifi and thus the iPad would have been erased.
Sunday(day 11), my iCal has been deleted totally from all my devices (iMac, iPhone, MacAir)
Monday (day12): I go to genius bar with Time Machine backup drive and some magic is worked to recover it. The conclusion was that the thief of my iPad wiped it out. And, " there are always ways to get into the iPad if they really want to with firewalls etc....".  And I needed to change my iCloud password (which the first guy did not suggest and stupidly I did not presume I needed to do).
Monday: (day 12) Password changed. OK, done.
Wednesday (day14): I open my photo stream on the iphone and see screen shots of websites dated from as recently as day 10! These of course showed up on my iMac and my iPhone amongst my own photo shots. Talk about feeling violated and failed.
Moral of story: Can not trust that the erase feature works.
Change every single  password you have as there is not assurance that a track has not been made.
And, do not have more than one user on your device: such as your spouse as their stuff could be compromized too.
