Did you ship your products to Europe, Montenegro?

Hi,
My name is Sokol, I'm from Montenegro Europe.
I want to bay some products on your store, because in my country you "Apple" dont have a store I have no idea where to bay a MacBook Pro.
My question is, Did you ship your products to Montenegro?
thank you...

Apple does not ship outside the US from the US store. See this page http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/ and go to the list of countries in Europe. Apple treats all member staes of the EU as one country so should be able to ship to you from a neighboring store.

• Professionals, how did you get your start?

I know there are many people on here who earn a living working as professionals. I was just curious, how did you get your start?
I plan to attend Ohio University this fall to major in video production within the Scripps School of Communication. OU is well known for their school of communication, but obviously just having a good name behind your major doesn't guarantee a job.
What did you do to make yourself more marketable to potential employers? Any other advice that you have to share?
Thanks in advance
D

I started out as an apprentice editor on a feature film. Got the job mainly because I fixed the director's assistant's computer during my interview. Knowing how to use the Avid (thanks to film school) helped too.
I started at the bottom, and worked my way up. Gaining knowledge as I went. Apprentice editor, to tape vault manager, to post coordinator, to assistant editor, to online editor, back to assistant, then to editor. 6 years from the day I started apprenticing until the day I started editing a broadcast show.
>What did you do to make yourself more marketable to potential employers?
Learned the ins and outs of the edit systems. I could troubleshoot them if they were broken, and knew the workflows for multiple shooting formats. Was able to make the decision on edit systems to use and workflows to employ when presented with the shooting format, and delivery specs. I learned all that from on the job training, and trolling the web for resources. And a lot of work on my own.
>Any other advice that you have to share?
Work your @$$ off! If you think the job is below you, and act that way, you won't get hired again. Don't think that you will start off right away as an editor, or DP, or director. Starting out as an assistant is a great way to learn all that you need to learn to perform your job. Because right out of film school, you don't know what you don't know. But work hard, be dependable, and you will get hired again and again.

as you suspected, when you click on that "Did you forget your password" link on your local install, you're supposed to be taken to the screen where you can have your password reset to a system-generated value. after resetting the password, an email is then sent to the email address associated with that users record. having said this, can you let me know the URL to which that link is directing you on your local install (sending it to [email protected] would be great)? it sounds as if it's not pointing to the right place...for some reason. to be thorough, could you maybe include the url of the screen you're coming from as well? maybe there'll be a clue there as to what might be causing your issue.

• What did you replace your wireless mighty mouse with?

I am not happy with mine. What mouse did you replace yours with?

I've got an MX1000, I'll agree that it's quite nice. You may want to look around at Logitech's line. The MX1000 uses RF instead of bluetooth to transmit, though Logitech does offer a line of bluetooth mice. However, I've found that the bluetooth mice tend to be overpriced and lacking some features of their RF counterparts.
Currently, the top of the line Logitech cordless mouse is called the G7. It works much like the MX1000 (with a laser instead of LED) but runs at a higher DPS. It also includes two battery packs with an external charger so that you can use the mouse while charging a battery pack. I'm not sure of the price for the G7, but you should be able to find a MX1000 for $40-$50 US.

• Where Did You Get Your MacBook?

For those that have a MacBook, where did you purchase it from? Even with the student discount, purchasing from the Apple store doesn't provide any savings because of the taxes (~$84.00 in NY). I know Amazon.com sells it, but it's pre-order.

No need to get defensive. I wasn't saying that people shouldn't use the Apple Store. I was saying that unless Apple recognises your problems as problems, they will not do anything for you. That is to say, issues such as heat, whine and other common issues people worry about here on this forum will not be addressed by the Apple Store geniuses because they don't consider these problems out of specifications. This also means that if you have these issues and decide you can't live with them,you most probably will not be able to return a macbook of MBP to them without a restocking fee.
Believe me, I was amazed that they were so unwilling to consider not charging me a restocking fee. I was very calm, told them about the issues (whine, heat, loose battery, warped lid) and told them that over the past 15 years as an Apple user I have never felt disappointed with an Apple product except for this one. I told them that I have purchased items for tens of thousands of dollars from Apple over the years and asked them if they would at least consider charging me just half the restocking fee given that these are problems SO MANY people are having. There are OBVIOUSLY issues with the MBPs. The guy (who claimed to be the 'lead' rep there) refused and told me, in the same breath, how much they 'love' my business, pointing me in the direction of the checkout so I could line up to get refund, minus the $200 fee for beta testing. How insulting and disingenuous is that!
There are stores that will accept your claim that an item is defective. Since Apple is the mothership they decide what is within spec while some other stores just trust you when you say your notebook has excessive heat problems or whines and therefore needs to be returned. Given the many problems reported, I would recommend anybody to buy from a store with a more generous and no hassle return policy. Getting an exchange will not help if all units have the same problems....

• Did you change your home folder name and now your computer is all wierd?

Hello. I did the same thing and I called apple help and they just couldn't help me on this subject. I was messing around with the computer and I found a proper solution where you don't have to re-install the software. Here are the steps:
Step one: login (if your not already logged in) into the account. It should still be there as the original name.
Step two: Open your Finder or HD and select the Users folder.
Step three: You should see your original account name as well as any one else's account name if you have other people sharing the computer. In addition to this you will also see the name you attempted to use as a replacement for your old Home Folder name, note that this is a new unexpected user.
Have it in column mode for the easiest experience.
In the new folder you created (this is the user on the list that you named your original folder) You will find all your old settings. Don't do anything yet! take and highlight all of the content in that folder by holding shift and clicking or your preferred way. Drag ALL the content to your original home folder, which should only have library and Documents. (if it has more than it's okay) it will tell you that there are already folders with that name and will ask permission to replace them. Say yes.
Step four: log out or restart your computer.
Step five: log in, and or wait till it's restarted Your desktop and dock should be restored to the way you originally had it. Don't change the name on it again. if you want to change the name, you'll need to create a new user.
Step six: Thank me and leave me complements or questions.

I think it is rather surprising that the Mac OS allows you to change the name of the home folder and doesn't seem to put up a warning or anything.
I did change the short name used on my home folder about three weeks ago. I used ChangeShortName Utility v1.2 which I got from here:
http://www.macosxpowertools.com
All indications are that using this utility has been 100% successful.
I did create a new temporary account with administration privileges and I ran the utility from that account. This meant I wasn't changing the short name on the account I was actually using.
It is very important to read the "read me" with ChangeShortName so that you are 100% sure of what you are doing when you use it.
Also, of course, back up first

• New IE activeX issue: did you charge your clients to make the switch?

Hi all
I am going to update all my sites containing Flash content
and use one of these javascript functions
to generate the embed code, so that Flash plays normally in
IE.
I am wondering if I should notify my clients and charge them
for the change, or if this should be a
"free maintenance" thing.
Did you charge for it? Did you do it free?

as simple as it gets:
First, go there:
http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/
click on download
in the downloaded folder, find: swfobject.js
that's the only file you need.
Copy this file to your site folder.
Second, in the head of your web pages that contain Flash,
link to the script:

Third, in the same pages, replace any Flash embed code,
typically something like this:

with this:

Fourth, replace the values with the ones you need for your
particular flash movie, in this line:
var fo = new FlashObject("movie.swf", "", "305", "269", "6",
"#FFFFFF");
movie.swf = path to your swf file
305 = width of the swf
269 = height
6 = targeted flash player version (latest is 8)
#FFFFFF = background color
Last, if this is a drop-down flash menu or any flash content
that might go OVER or UNDER some html
content, you will want to add one parameter:
fo.addParam("wmode", "transparent");
just before
fo.write("flashcontent");
Voil

• How do you measure your productivity?

Hi everybody,
I have troubles estimating my productivity as a Java programmer. As far as I know "a normal programmer" produces from 80 to 400 lines of code (LOC) per month (comments are not counted).
I now it is very unclear how to define and estimate programmer's productivity a and I know it depends on a lot of factors. But still, I would be extremely greateful if someone would share with me how many lines of Java/JSP code s/he produces per hour (or per month).
A lot of thanks in advance.

How about trying to measure the financial return on the code you produce.
If, for example, you are a reuse asset producer, perhaps you could measure costs on the basis of SLOCRBO (Source LOC Reused By Others)?
So if you write a 1KLOC module that is reused in 10 projects, that's
SLOCRBO = 10 * 1000 = 10,000
You could try to take this forward by gathering stats for the relative cost of reuse for modules produced in your company. Let's say it costs 20% of the cost of writing a module from scratch to use a 'reusuable' module instead. So you can try to work out the amount of money you are saving the company:
CPLOC = (Cost per line of code) = $100 (say)
RCR = (Relative cost of reuse) = 20%
DCA = (Developer cost avoidance) = 10,000 * 0.8 * $100 = $800,000
But you'd need to measure code quality, so you need stats on error rates, and how much it costs to fix errors. This might depend on when errors tend to caught, and how critical the apps the company develops are. So:
ER = (Error Rate) = 0.001 (errors/LOC)
EC = (Error cost) = $10,000 (say)
MCA = (Maintenance cost avoidance) = 10,000 * 0.001 * $10,000 = $100,000
So your Reuse Cost Avoidance would be DCA + MCA = $900,000
Then you'd have to take into account your labour costs, costs of maintaining the reuse program, asset administration and so on. You are also going to need to take into account the impact that your bugs, and any future incompatable changes, are going to have on systems that reuse your code. You could (I think) get a fair idea of what you might be worth to the company, and how much money you could save by increasing Reuse a bit. Obviously, this kind of calculation is going to need statistics from the company to make the calculation meaningful.
You could also look at your maintenance patterns: Do you have to keep making lots of small changes to your code? If so, maybe you could improve your productivity by performing some preventative maintenance - improving the maintainability of your modules by re-engineering them.
I do think it's important that you do try to measure productivity - producing metrics is the hard part - but without taking measurements, how can you improve a software process (either from the pov of a manager, or as a matter of personal improvement)?

• How did you get your first Flex developer job???

Hi guys..
I know it might not be relevant for this forum, but I am dying to know how you guys get your first flex developer job. I am actually more interested in your resume. What sort of skill did you guys put on your resume? Thanks for the reply....:D

Started as a pure "Java/J2EE" dev. Rebelled and added Flex to my skill set (since JSP is sin on par with 'AJAX frameworks'), started new project using Flex.
In other words one way is to take ownership of a Java (or other) project, and force the bast... er, have your project team use Flex. he he
But this is the long path, of course. To start off in Flex (besides the obvious of looking for it by name) you'd probably focus on UI design skills/experience and competing (but crummy and old) front-end technologies, and then lobby for the Flex SDK on any new projects that come along (assuming it's a good fit). I suspect you'd have a tougher time if you're going into an organization which already has some late-generation RIA tech in use, such as Silverlight or GWT (bleh), but the ones still saying "JSP" or "AJAX" and any other associated legacy HTML-type technologies are soft targets.

• Why did you return your N97 - fail

Somebody suggested to take this conversation elsewhere. I'm starting this to really help Nokia as to why I returned my N97, and maybe somebody else looking to buy one, it will help them decide its nothing that matters to them.
After reading Nokia's return policy I found that you really only have 7 days to return the phone with the California exception being 30 days but having to pay a 15% restocking fee.
I returned my N97 because of all the hoopla about being the new flag ship phone that was a touch screen phone. When I tried to use the phone for 4 days and the back light would not turn on (This has since been fixed in the latest software update) Knowing I only had 7 days (30 really in my case) I called tech support and they quickly decided to have me send my phone in for repair, they said they had not heard of this problem and it was better to get it in earlier than later. All was so far ok, not great, about 4 days after they received the phone I received a call from the "executive offices of Nokia" telling me they understood I purchased their flag ship phone and they didn't want me to be without a phone, they were going to send me a N71 because the parts for my phone would not be in in 2-3 week. I said ok, and hung up the phone. Then my partner asked if this is a new phone without parts, why not just send you a new phone. I called back and the story changed, now it seemed they didn't know if it was software or hardware. I lost it, and asked for a refund, they said being a new phone they would give me 100% refund and send me out a box that day, and my refund would be mailed out in 6 weeks or more. 1 week later and no box to return the phone in, I called back, Seems they did not send a box out, its going out on Monday, When I said if I didn't get the box by Wednesday I would dispute the charges on my credit card. They also admited that the refund check has already been mailed and if I disputed the charges they would stop payment on the check.
Issue
#1 - Customer support never gave me the same story twice, it kept changing
#2 - I own an iPod touch to listen to music at the gym. The web browser blows the N97 browser away, I don't think Nokia even looked at the iTouch/iPhone to enhance their browser. I found I couldn't use the browser
#3 - Out of the box the phone software was bad, had they waited till July 1st to ship the phone (about 2 weeks) they would have had a phone that seemed to work
#4 - OVI prices on application are too high, why are there not any application for $0.99 everything seems to be $2.99 and up
#5 - Days after the phone release, when the software still didn't work, Nokia lowered the prices for 1 day, Would not give a refund of the difference.
#6 - Memory for the C: default drive is limited, when I send over some ring tones via blue tooth, I filled it up, after reading the forums I found I could set the memory to the 32G partition, Why does a $700 phone cause me to tweek it like that.
These were my major complaints, I figured for $700 (usd) I would get a phone that worked and smoked all the other phones out there.

• Fake Flash Drives Threaten PCs and Networks Alike! Did You Test Yours?

Hello Brothers;
I wanted to post this in the more mainstream Mac forums because it really does affect everyone who purchases flash drives or ANY memory product online.
In the past year, eBay and Amazon have been flooded with counterfeit flash drives that look identical to name brands. They look JUST LIKE the real deal. I know. Last month I unwarily bought a "Kingston" flash drive on eBay. Though PayPal grudgingly reimbursed me, this goes FAR beyond my being swindled.
Thousands of these fake drives have been purchased on eBay and Amazon as graduation and birthday gifts and party flavors and are landing in the unwary hands of those who jobs cannot tolerate data corrupted by one missing digit. When you walk past a hospital or construction site or industrial plant, someone there is plugging a flash drive into computers for precise medical and drug formula info or to feed instructions to heavy machinery or control a chemical plant or an aspect of our communications infrastructure. Maybe even computers aboard military aircraft and ships. This is an insidious and malignant issue that deserves FAR more attention by media and government than it has.
You can heads-up on this issue, find victim redemption assistance and test your flash drive at: http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
Please write to your local TV station and political representative about this pernicious blight! The person you eventually help might be you! Would you want the doctor or med tech managing your mother in a hospital to be carrying a fake flash?

Sounds like all of the troubleshooting regarding your home's wiring has been done. The noise on the phone line says what the problem is, and we should address the issues with voice FIRST before we start dealing with the DSL. Generally, once the phone is solved, the DSL will follow along.
Since you're receiving noise on the line, especially when the DSL is online you need to give Verizon a call during the time of the static from another line. Use a cell phone or a neighbor's line. When prompted, enter in your phone number and then navigate to Technical Support to the Telephone Repair section. When the agent comes on, tell them you are receiving Intermittent Static. They should proceed to perform a test called the MLT test, which will check your copper loop for any problems that may be developing such as shorts or unusual resistency (which can cause issues with DSL and phone). If the test picks up a problem, the agent should immediately be able to write up a trouble ticket with the details of the test for a technician to repair it. Just be aware, do NOT answer the phone or use your phone line while the test is ran. Stick to the alternate phone you are dialing support from. It requires the copper loop to be idle. DSL can be kept on with no problems. While in the call and when the tech visits (if they need to stop down), do NOT mention the DSL. Let them do the task of repairing the phone line. Once the problem is solved, you should see the DSL line stabalize, and if the statistics improve enough, the speed return and increase past the highest levels you've seen in a few days.
Your line should be short enough to have 3Mbps running on it. Just need to get the loop repaired

• How did you know your idevice will be activation lock ?

I bought used iPad mini (only the body) at present it's work well I could use my Apple ID, buy some apps and update the FW via OTA. I heard from amny person If I restore and maybe it could not work unless I do not know the username and password of the previous owener (Activation Locked). My iPad mini will be a piece of junk only.
My question is how did I know my current iPad mini will be Activation Locked if I do the restore ? Do we have the method to check ?

And how should I know my device was enabled the Find my Phone already ?
The way to know would be to look in the iCloud settings to see if Find My iPhone is set. If you can't set into those settings, then it's highly probable that it's set and hence Activation Lock will be in effect.
Because If the previous was never enable it, it should be ok from Activation lock right ?
If you are certain that the previous owner never set up Find My iPad, then Activation Lock would not be a concern.
