Didn't iPhoto come with Tiger?

Isn't iPhoto part of OS-X Tiger? I could have sworn I had it on my Mac when I installed Tiger. I might have deleted it thinking I would never use it as I have been disappointed by past versions. But the more I read about it, I want to try it again. How can I get it back?

Hi Brian,
No it does not come with tiger. It probably came installed on your new computer. You will need to either buy the iLife package or try to install it from your computer software CD/DVD. check out the links for a solution that pertains to your situation.

  • What version of ARD comes with Tiger?

What version of ARD comes with Tiger? Do I need to go out and buy 3.0 in order to connect to other computers in my network?
I tried setting it up in the sharing section but when I entered the address in Safari it wouldn't work. Am I completely clueless or am I supposed to go out and buy ARD in order to connect to other computers in my network?
I would like to be able to connect with all of the other macs in my home.

So basically what I have only allows other computers to see me. I can't see other computers?
Correct, not unless you purchase Apple Remote Desktop, or get a (free) VNC application which would allow you to take control of other systems (the ARD client uses VNC's protocol for observation and control, so all you would need is the software for the administration system). Many people use Chicken of the VNC successfully (don't be confused by the terminology; in VNC parlance, "client" is what goes on the admin system).

  • Doesn't iPhoto come with 10.5?

I recently tried to use iPhoto, probably for the first time since upgrading from 10.3.9. The version listed in my applications folder is 2.0.1, which isn't compatible with 10.5.5. Doesn't the most recent version of iPhoto come with the OS? How can I get an iPhoto that works with 10.5? Or do I have to buy something else?

Or follow the Adobe model and simply charge a nominal fee to upgrade
As I said, you can buy the complete iLife '08 package of applications for about half the price of just a Photoshop upgrade.
The point is, the Apple applications and the Adobe applications are aimed at different markets. iPhoto isn't designed to compete with Photoshop and Photoshop isn't designed to compete with iPhoto. (BTW, I've been a Photoshop user since the original beta test when it fit on a single floppy disk.) I almost never use iPhoto, but I do use iDVD, iMovie and iWeb and occasionally GarageBand. I think the iApps are a GREAT bargain!

  • HT1338 does iphoto come with mac osx

I recently had to get my hard drive replaced by Apple, and was wondering - doesn't iPhoto / GarageBand come standard with OS X?  I've not had to pay for it (and my Apps Store purchases confirm this), but now that I have the hard drive back, I don't have iPhoto, GarageBand or iMovie anymore.  If someone could cofirm this for me, that woudl be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks Niel.  That helps - I guess my question is if you think that if Apple (under warranty) had to replace the hard drive, if they should have installed iPhoto and other software again?  To me they should as the replacing of the hard drive was not my choice.  But I am a relatively new Apple customer and so unaware of their practices.
    Your thoughts are appreciated.

  • Why do I have OpenBase installed? Does it come with Tiger?

I have that OpenBase folder in /Applications and I don't know why! Does Tiger uses these databases? Each time I log in hundreds of files in /Library/OpenBase are modified.
Apparently it was there from the beginning but nowhere on Apple site is something told about it, so I'm wondering if I can just remove all OpenBase-related stuff.
Mac mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

OK, I discovered OpenBase is installed with WebObjects on the OS X installation disc. But I don't like having all those databases running, especially since I have no idea what they are for.
It seems most of the databases are examples, as WODiscussionBoard.db or WOPetStoreX.db...
Will removing the /Library/StartupItems/OpenBase directory prevent the database from starting?

  • Why didn't pages come with my laptop?, why didn't pages come with my laptop?

I thought pages came installed on the Mac Books?

You may purchase it via the App store.  Check the website for the applications that are included.  Pages is not one of them.
    Ciao.

  • Will my new iMac come with Leopard or Tiger?

    Hi,
I'm going to Uni on Monday and want to finally purchase my Mac now that Leopard has been released.
My question is: If I order my new Mac on Monday, will it come with Leopard or Tiger?
In the online store it still states that it will come with Tiger, but maybe this has just not been updated?
If people don't know the answer, would you happen to know an Apple contact email address or telephone number I can call (in the UK) to check prior to ordering?

Are you sure you want to get a Mac with Leopard preloaded?
It may actually not be compatible with some of the software you depend on, and will have no chance of being so (unless the product is updated) because Macs historically have only been able to use the operating system they ship with and newer operating systems, and we are still learning which products need updates for Leopard.
The online store has a phone number in the upper left hand corner:

1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

  • How come iPhoto is for sale if it comes with a Mac

I am thinking of buying my first Mac and was told that iPhoto comes with the Mac for free. But when I searched it online it said that iPhoto was available in the Mac App Store for €11.99. I was wondering whether the one that comes on the Mac is a trial version or is it the full version, and if so why is it for sale on the Mac App Store

Your new Mac will have iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie free, but it doesn't come preinstalled. You have to download them in the App Store, but they will be free for you because the App Store checks the serial number. It can be purchased in older Macs

  • MacBook didn't come with an iLife CD?

My MacBook is currently in the process of being replaced, and I figured that, since I have the opportunity, I'll reinstall OSX when I get the new machine so that I have more free space for BootCamp and stuff.
Anyway, I noticed that my first MacBook didn't actually come with a iLife install disc... Did I just not see it? I'll want to reinstall the iLife programs...
    Francis

    Francis,
iLife is part of the included installation disks that come with the MBP. When doing an install, they will automactically be included, unless you choose to not install them when you pick Customize during install.

  • IPhoto compatible with Sony Handycam (with mini-DVD)?

I have a Sony Handycam and a MacBook Pro with iPhoto. The Handycam takes decent pictures and video, but it does not have a port for a memory stick. Also, the upload software that the Handycam came with... well... isn't so good. (I'm not sure if it's even Mac-compatible.)
Unfortunately, the Sony Handycam is not listed as one of the "cameras" that iPhoto comes with. (I put the word "cameras" in quotes because the Handycam is more a video camera than a still camera even though it takes still pictures.)
If anyone here knows of a workaround so that I can upload pictures from my Handycam to my MacBook Pro using iPhoto (or other appropriate software in the iLife suite), please let me know! I'm dying to have an excuse to not install the uploading software the Handycam came with.
    Thanks in advance!

The Handycam's video format is one that in not OS X compatible. i don't know about the stills, however. I don't believe the mini-DVD disc that it create is Mac readable either. It's designed to go straight to DVD players and display the videos and stills on a TV set.
Do a search in the iPhoto 6 forum for "Sony Handycam" and you'll find previous topics on the subject. You might also try in the iDVD and iMovie forums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Anyone bought a imac in UK with Tiger and ordered Leopard disk for £5.95

Im looking at buying a iMac, I can get 10% discount from Comet and so am thinking of going there.
However there iMacs come with Tiger on, but I belive that if you buy an iMac after 27th Oct (ie now) then for £5.95 you can get Leopard sent to you from Apple?
    1) Has anyone done this?
    2) How long did the disk take to arrive?
    3) Do you still get iLife 08 with Tiger bought formthe shop?
    4) Did everything go smooth on the upgrade?

    Ian,
Will is correct that neither Tiger or Leopard included iLife however Panther did include iMovie and iPhoto.
    the loc-man,
Each new Mac will have an software bundle on one or more discs that will include both a copy of OS X and iLife etc. This is where the confusion comes in when the bundle is on a single disc.
Although I did order an iMac on 10 Oct and ordered a UTD copy of Leopard for £5.95 on 25 Oct I couldn't answer your question as I haven't used the disc preferring instead to use the separate Retail disc I had for the Powerbook. (So I do have two licenses but only used one disc )
    cheers

  • Doesn't the Imacs already come with OS X already installed?

Do i need to download the Install Dics that come with the Imac? What comes in the bundled software?

The bundled software that comes with an iMac varies depending on when it is sold. The current models come with Tiger (OS 10.4) & the applications always bundled with it (Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, & the Xcode Developer Tools) plus the iLife ’08 bundle (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, & GarageBand). Of these, only QuickTime, Xcode Developer Tools, & iTunes can be downloaded independently & for free.
All of this is pre-installed on the iMac & can be re-installed if need be from the system disks that come with it -- you do not need to nor can you download them, except as noted above. The disk set also includes a version of Apple Hardware Test (AHT) specific to the hardware/model, which can only be run by booting the machine directly into it -- in effect it is a special purpose OS, not an application, & can be obtained & used in no other way. The disk set also includes a limited version of the Tiger OS itself, which supports the applications on the set, including the Installer application & some utilities like Disk Utility. This enables you to boot from disk one of the set even if your hard drive or its installed OS is damaged or missing to do maintenance or installations.
For these reasons, you should treat the installer disk set as an essential part of the iMac & keep it in a safe place.
