First, your carrier must support Personal Hotspot, and second, your account must be provisioned for such. Otherwise, that setting will not appear. So, contact your carrier.

Have you tried to erase your drive and reinstall the OS - you should use recoery (hold Command + R keys while restarting). Since the items in the menu bar are part of the system, a clean reinstall of the system should take care of it.

  • Personal hotspot menu

Personal hotspot menu on my iPhone unexpectedly moved into settings main menu (after having entered the menu but I didn't turn on the service or anything). It actually bugs me, because I'm not gonna use this feature and it would be better if it stayed in it's original place. Is there any way I can turn it back to the way it was?

    No.

  • Personal Hotspot menu disappeared after I updated my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3

Personal Hotspot menu disappeared after I updated my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3
My carrier provides tethering service and I used it often so I don't think this is from network problem.
What I remember is that after I upgrade my iPhone to iOS 4.3.3 I once activated personal hotspot function and it was hanged.
So I reboot my iPhone and the menu disappeared. Is this another bug that is from iOS 4.3.3??

What is the exact wording of the error message you received?
Has your iPhone been jailbroken or modified to work with other
    than the original wireless provider?
Not wise to post IMEI or ICCID in the clear, FYI. I have asked
the hosts to edit that info in your post.

Verify that your carrier supports Personal Hotspot for your device and that you have Personal Hotspot enabled on your cellular plan:

  • Using my personal hotspot to connect and set my ipad

Hi folks im having trouble using my personal hotspot to connect and set my ipad, the phone tells me thge ipad is connected to it via the hotspot but on the Ipad its founbd my phone and the little chain link hasd gone blue but i cant advance from this point to connect to itunes

Yes, the iPad will download app updates over your iPhone's cellular data. I just tested it.  I was tethered to my iPhone using Bluetooth, which I figured to make it even less likely to do so, but as soon as I turned on auto updates it started updating apps.
It's not obvious at first either. You can't see any progress bars. You will just notice  the number of pending updates gradually decreasing, and in the App Store "Updates" section you will notice apps appear as updated on this date.

  • Difficult to get personal hotspot working, need 10 retries!

The hotspot creation from OSX was the main reason I upgraded to Yosemite. But for some reason, on my system. It would not always work. When I click on it from OSX's wifi menu, it will attempt to connect (with the rings flashing) but it then it would error out. To get it to work, I usually have to keep hitting over 10 times, and eventually it might work. How do I fix this?

Turn off you Wifi everywhere and try the following:
I found a solution to USB tethering problems since recent firmware upgrades and share that here in case anyone else is having the same issue:
Since the introduction of the firmware update 4.3.2 or somewhere thereabouts, and personal hotspot implementation, "Tether using USB" has disappeared from the menu.
Semantically, where they've put it makes no sense (except financially, from forcing frustrated former users of USB tethering to use the wifi personal hotspot, forget, and rack up data charges with their carriers) - USB tethering is hiding under "Personal Hotspot" and the listed instructions don't work unless certain conditions are met. The iPhone shows up as a digital camera only under My Computer in Windows 7 until I follow the list below.
Here's how I got it to work today. There may be better ways and you may not need to take all steps but if you're like me you just want to get it working and carry on.
Solution: (assuming your iPhone is plugged in via USB, and Personal Hotspot is OFF (under Network | Personal Hotspot, and you're not connected to the Internet any other way....
    0.     Close iTunes if it's open
    1.    Turn Wifi off on your laptop
    2.     Turn Wifi off on your iPhone
    3.     Go into the Network | Personal Hotspot menu and turn P.H. on.
    4.     I get a dialog querying whether I want to turn Wifi on, or to use USB or Bluetooth. Choose the second option
    5.     Wait a little bit and it should find the device correctly and connect you to the internet. Verify with a web page.
Feel free to update or eliminate the list above and the assumptions but there you go, it works.

  • Need help: Unable to tether, personal hotspot settings are ON

Was hoping to see if I can get a solution here. Network service provider couldn't fix it.
    1. tethering is enabled for the network I'm on.
    2. My "Personal Hotspot" is on.
    3. iPhone plugged in via USB
    4. iTunes is running.
Unfortunately, it doesn't tether automatically like how it should. It's just not happening. I tried looking under the Network services and can't find the network to connect to.
Tethering used to work before I made the iOS 4.3 update, now it's not. Was wondering if any of you are having the same issue here? Or have a solution for this.

  • Personal hotspot is missing

The option was in my iphone4, somehow it is missing and no such option under my network section.
And my version now in my iphone4 is 4.3.3
    Anyone face the same problem?

    Hi raineee,
I faced the same problem you describe here, no "HotSpot" item to be found in "Settings -> General -> Network" (which is where this option should be found).
I knew I had seen it before upgrading to the latest OS  (currently on 4.3.3 as well) but now it was gone.
I found the solution for my phone, maybe it works for you (as well as maybe for some others with the same problem).
Some of the "explanations" I had found were claiming that it had to do with your provider (whether it allows tethering/hotspot functionality or not) but I have the feeling that the absence of this menu item is not related to that at all (whether hotspot functionality does work or not is a different story). It seems (at least for my case) that it is a glitch in the iOS which in some circumstances simply does not show the HotSpot functionality anymore.
Here's what made it work for me (warning: take care of storing the information (SSID, encryption type, password, ...) of your currently configured wireless networks as this action will erase them):
    - Goto "Settings -> General -> Reset" (at the bottom of the "General" section)
    - Select "Reset Network Settings" (optionally supply the password with which you protected these kind of settings to be accidentally executed) and wait for your phone to reboot ....
    - If all works out on your phone as it did on mine the "Personal Hotspot" menu should be back again in "Settings -> General -> Network" (between "Data Roaming" and "VPN")
Hope it will work for you (and maybe others) as it did for me.
Caution: You (most probably) need to reconfigure your WiFi settings after doing this reset! So take care of storing this information before you do so!

  • Personal hotspot is not visible

    personal hotspot is not visible

ok guys same thing happened to me on iphone 5 and I found a solution. my situation was similar as many of you:
my operator is vodafone and when my sim was activated vodafone sent me a profile for operator settings so I installed it. but when I tried to enable personal hotspot, the menu simply disappeared from settings menu. there was only settings -> general -> cellular  -> personal hotspot but it wasn't like "on" or "off", it was trying to do sth for a while but nothing happened. when i clicked on it it gave the message "to enable personal hotspot on this account, contact /operator_name/ (vodafone)". I contacted them for nothing, just to lose money for contacting. they said it was apple's problem but i knew it wasn't because it was working with my former operator. I tried everything suggested on forums, none worked. so I simply deleted this profile, and personal hotspot menu instantly came back to the settings menu. now it works just fine and you don't need a profile to make calls, send sms and mms or use cellular data (3g). I actually don't know what a profile is good for but I now know it disables personal hotspot.
    I hope this helps you.

  • Personal Hotspot discovery failure

My iPhone 5 on ios 6.1.2 shows Personal Hotspot is now discoverable, but it does not show up on my iPad 2 also on ios 6.1.2.  I have previously used my iPhone to share Internet to my iPad. This just happened out of nowhere. Help anyone?

Happens to me all the time when I try to connect my old iphone 4 to my iphone 5.
If I turn hotspot off and on again, wait 30 seconds it will usually show up and connect

I started experiencing the battery drain problem after:
I updated to 4.3.4 on my iPhone 4.
    Installed the Google+ iPhone app.
I added an Exchange account email access for work.
After this my battery would be down to 10-20% life after 5-6 hours. Prior to this my battery would last for several days without a charge. To resolve the problem I did the following:
    Removed my Exchange email account.
Changed the notifications for Google+ to just badges.
    Reset network connections.
Turn the phone off then back on.
Please note that I did NOT have to perform a restore from backup.
I'm happy to report that after 3 hours since the last charge, my battery level is still at 100%.
I may try to add my Exchange email account back on the phone, but that may re-introduce the battery drain problem.
