Diff between Oracle 9i Standard Editionand Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition

what is the diff between Oracle 9i Standard Edition     and Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition

Check http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
This is about 10g but mostly should be the same as in 9i with at least two exceptions known for me RAC is not possible for 9i SE and 9i had not XE at all.

    Paresh,
The best paper I've seen that describes the differences between
the various 8i family sets is "Oracle8i: A Family of Database
    Products".
You can download a copy at:
    http://www.oracle.com/database/prodfam/
BTW - If you are going to upgrade from 7.3.4 anyway, your best
bet is to go with 8i, otherwise you will have to upgrade from
    Oracle8 at some point anyway.
    Regards,
    Chris

Since it was released under 10.2..0.1, you are expected to install that and download the patch to upgrade to 10.2.0.4
Of course, the patch is available only on the Oracle Support site, and access is by paid support subscription.

More relevant info can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 ... scroll down to 'Platform Guide' and select the appropriate guide - Windows 32 bit, Windows Itanium, or Windows 64 bit - that is relevant to your environment. • Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 Enterprise to Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 Standard Edition migration

    Hi,
I'm in the planning stage of migrating an Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 Enterprise database to an Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 Standard Edition and i have a couple of questions.
    1) Can it be done or do i have to migrate to Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 Enterprise Edition?
    2) If it can be done can i
    a) follow the manual upgrade process to upgrade to 10.2.0.3.0 Standard Edition?
    b) use export to take an 8.1.7.4.1 enterprise export and then import it into a new empty 10.2.0.3.0 database?
I've read the 10g upgrade guide but i can't see any pointers on this but please feel free to point me to any documentation resources.
Thanks in anticipation of you help.

Thanks very much for the post. I am using this tutorial (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/apexinst/apexinst.htm) and everything seems to be working fine till I move to the step where I create A New Workspace. Even though I am following the steps exactly as explained I get an error message:

  • Unzip oracle 8i personnal Edition or enterprise edition

I have downloaded the oracle 8i personnal édition or 8i Enterprise Edition on download site and I can't unzip the files.
Does it need a special unzip software ? ( I use winzip or powerArchiver )
It works well with the 9i Lite Edition.
    Thanks.

Your download was probably aborted when it was partially complete, leaving you an invalid ZIP file. Did you check the file size that you downloaded against the file size specified on the download site?

Whilst it's possible to execute dynamic code and therefore create tables dynamically at run time, this is considered poor design and should be avoided in 99.99% of cases... though for some reason some people still think they need to do this, and it's never really justified.
So what issue are you facing that you need to even bother considering dynamic tables?

  • Database link between Oracle Standard Edition and Oracle Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
I am looking at setting up a data transfer process between an Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition database and an Oracle 11g Standard Edition database. Database links would be required each way.
I heard once that this is not permitted as connecting Standard to Enterprise via a DB Link means that the Standard Edition database would now need an Enterprise license.
I have searched around but can't find anything to confirm this. Am I being mislead by this information? Is it permitted to
connect Standard to Enterprise via a DB Link?

I have searched around but can't find anything to confirm this. Am I being mislead by this information? Is it permitted to
connect Standard to Enterprise via a DB Link?I would be shocked if it were not permitted due to licensing issues. When a db-1 has a link pointing to db-2, as far as db-2 is concerned db-1 is just another client .. no different than sqlplus. If you have an Enterprise Edition database, of course it will need to be properly licensed. But that doesn't mean all of its clients (including a SE database) have to be EE licensed.
But even my reply is just something you read on the internet. Licensing questions can only be definitively answered by Oracle itself. Ultimately you will need to put your hands on an official Oracle document or a written statement from someone authorized to make such statements.
