Diff Query output on Windows OS and Linux OS

I execute one simple query on the production environment and on test environment, everything is same except the OS and processor speed.
In Windows the query is :-
select product_code , product_sht_name, product_long_name from prod_master where product_code like 'IRON'
Output of this is everything which is equal to 'IRON'
In a unix we have same table and when i execute the query:
select product_code , product_sht_name, product_long_name
from prod_master
where product_code like 'IRON'
No output is coming.....
Let me know if we have diff output on diff OS??
Application is running fine on windows OS, but it is not running on Unix OS??? Recently we migrated from SCO-Unix to Red-hat-Linux.
need your expert opinions???

  • Dual Boot Windows 8 and Linux?

I have (UEFI System) an ASUS K55A UEFI motherboard laptop that came factory with Windows 8. I would like to install backtrack linux and Windows 8, but before I go screwing up my laptop, I want to see if this would be at all possible. I would use a virtual

  • DUAL BOOT windows 7 and linux HELP

    MASTERS
im planing to have windows 7 and linux at the same time (DUAL BOOT)
but i dont know if one key recovery still works after installation
    ihave lenovo g560
    i3 @ 2.53
    4gb ram
    any advice guys?

    hi botards01,
If you're planning to use linux occasionally (Ubuntu for example) and you don't want to risk losing the One Key Recovery functionality, try to install Ubuntu via Wubi as this doesn't repartition your HDD but creates a virtual disk on your current OS.
Check it out - Install Ubuntu in Windows With Wubi
    Hope this helps

  • Dual booting pre-installed Windows 8 and Linux?

I just bought a G780 with Windows 8 pre-installed. Ideally, I would also like to install some flavor of Linux. I've been searching but not finding much info on how difficult or time-consuming this would be, or if there are any special considerations or anything. I've found some guides on dual-booting Windows 8 and Linux but they were all for installing Windows straight from a disk, not anything where it's already pre-installed, and some indicated they thought it might be problematic to use a pre-installed version of Windows. Anyway I was hoping that if anybody has done this on the G780 or even a similar laptop that you could share how it went and any difficulties you encountered. I'm open to using any Linux distro if it'll be easy to install. I would appreciate any info you could share. Thanks.

I had issues with Windows 8 as pre-installed on my G580, my employer at the time was using Windows 7 only and would not allow upgrades for security purposes.  I deleted the entire drive (including hidden) knowing at some point I would re-install Windows 8 or later from retail disk when needed.
Linux can resize partitions during the install process, but be careful not to disturb the hidden partition or the windows boot loader in the process.  Linux Mint is the best yet for this purpose, OpenSUSE and Fedora failed, CentOS failed and Ubuntu was not able to boot, but did not "hurt" the windows partitions.
    Good luck.

  • Satelitte A110-180 - Update Bios for Windows 7 and Linux

    Hello,
I want to change the following settings in my bios on my laptop Satelitte A110-180
    * AHCI for SATA
    * Disable IDE
But there are no such options.
So I thought maybe I have to update my bios.
I found the download page, but there are 2 options: Windows Vista or NOT Windows vista, but I want to dual boot windows 7 and linux.
Wich one I have to download, or is there an other option to change the settings?
    Thank you!
    Bart

    Hi
Satellite A110 does not support such options (SATA AHCI).
The BIOS update will not help you!
Linux is not supported and therefore you will not find any special BIOS for Linux OS!
The both BIOS updates are for Win Vista or OS independent.
Therefore if you are using OS other as Vista then you should take the OS independent BIOS update!
But like mentioned above; both options will not appear after BIOS update!

  • DUAL BOOT windows 7 and linux HELP with Current info on BIOS, MBR vs GPT, etc

I have a feeling this should be easier than what I'm making it.  Please educate me on Lenovo's BIOS Setup menus, etc.
I have installed easyBCD in Windows 7, and plan to use it to set up my new boot menu with Linux Mint (and possibly other distros).
I am using a live DVD.  I inserted the DVD and went into SETUP and selected to boot off the DVD drive.  It started to boot into Linux and all was going well.
However, I realized that I had not checked on the Secure features (Secure Boot, EFI).  So I shutdown again and went into BIOS.  I went to the SECURITY menu and Disabled UEFI.  Then I disabled Secure boot.
Tried to boot off the DVD and couldn't get anywhere.  Kept putting me back into the window to select the boot device over and over again.  THought I'd ruined my machine
Anyway, finally stumbled upon STARTUP menu, and put it into EFI Legacy, and I was able to get back into Windows 7.
Obviously before I pursue this further, I need some educaiton on your MENUS, Lenovo and EFI/Secure Boot.
I have a feeling that I can probably now install the Linux but want to make sure my settings are correct before I pursue.
    Thanks, Kim
Moderator note:  this thread gets more Linux-flavored with each post   Moved from the "T" board to the Linux board.

Hi, thanks for ans.  Your specs are almost identical to my T530 ,which I should have listed.  The only diff is
I have an i7 35something processor.   Same intel card, RAM and HDD, not that that should matter I'm guessing.
I purposely avoided the Nvidia card because of all the heaadaches with Nvidia.
I have to teach a class tomorrow and I need to clean up my notes.  (Definitely not computer related...LOL.)  I don't want to  be stressed out about this during class, so I plan to wait to attempt a new install tomorrow afternoon.
What I have done is find out some more info about dual booting with windows 7.  I went in to windows 7 to shrink the C: partiition and it said I'd have to reserve at least 220 GB for MS!  Not what I wanted; I don't really care a thing for MS.  I was born and raised on Unix and Linux; I never really fiddled with MS after the demise of MS-DOS during my college days.
Given that, and the fact that I'd lose half my 500 GB HDD to the Borg, I may just chuck the entire dual boot thing and just load Linux on it.
If you say you're running Linux on it just fine, that would be a great encouragement.  No HW problems at all? Everything working fine?  Which distro are you using?
I plan to test Mint, Fedora, PCLinuxOS, Mageira (sp?), saybahon (sp again?), Debian Wheezy, and even Pear, LOL. I'll keep trying till I find a distro to run on my Lenovo T530, but I'm guessing all of 'em should do okay.
I have Lubuntu I could give a spin, as well and Crunchbang and Bodhi, but they're all 32 bit.  (I have an antique Dell desktop that I still use down in my woman cave.)

  • Install PT8.53 with Linux Issue: Windows NetMgr and Linux NetMgr

    Folks,
Hello. I am installing PeopleTools 8.53 Internet Architecture. Database Server is Oracle Dabase 11gR1. OS is Oracle Linux 5. I have installed JDK7, WebLogic 10.3.6, Tuxedo 11gR1 and PeopleTools 8.53 successfully into Oracle Linux 5.
I have been setting up PeopleTools8.53 Database. Because the Install Wizard has problem, I set up PeopleTools 8.53 Database manually using Oracle starter database instance PT853. I have run the following scripts:
    1) utlspace.sql
    2) dbowner.sql
    3) ptddl.sql
    4) psadmin.sql
    5) psroles.sql
    6) connect.sql
Then, we need to run Data Mover script in a Windows Client machine to populate PeopleTools Database instance PT853 in Linux Sever machine. I have installed Oracle Database 11gR2 client for 32-bit Windows in my 64-bit Windows XP Virtual Machine. Now, I confront 2 VMs' connection issue as below:
In Linux Server Machine Net Manager:
    Service Name: PT853
    Connection Type: Database Default
    Protocol" TCP/IP
    Host Name: localhost.localdomain
    Port Name: 1521
    Listener: LISTENER
    Protocol: TCP/IP
    Host: localhost.localdomain
    Port: 1521
I test the Service PT853 using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.
In Windows Client machine, the information in Net Manager is the same, but the connection is not successful. Its details are as below:
    Net Service Name: PT853
    Protocol: TCP/IP
Host name of Database Machine: localhost.localdomain
    Port Number: 1521
    Database Service Name: PT853
    Connection Type: Database Default
I test the Service using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM" that are the same with Linux, but get this error: TNS: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
    My questions are:
Do we need to do something to connect Windows XP with Linux at first ? If yes, How to do it ? If no, how to solve the above issue ?
    Thanks.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
Regarding PeopleSoft networking, I have done Configuration Manager to enable Data Mover and Application Designer to login into Database Instance PT853.
Regarding 2 Virtual Machines (Windows XP and Oracle Linux 5) connects with each other, I have done the following:
First, I follow this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 VMs for Windows 7 Host.
Second, in Windows XP Oracle Database Client Install Directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has one entry that is the Service Name in Net Manager. In Linux Oracle Database Server install directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has no entries because I installed Oracle Database Server with the starter Database instance PT853.
I have tried to test 2 VMs in the way as below:
    In Linux, [user@localhost ~]$ping WindowsHostName
    Its output: unknown host WindowsHostName
    In Windows XP Command Prompt:
    C:\ping localhost.localdomain
Its output: pinging localhost.localdomain 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
    Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=2ms, TTL=128
It replies a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is pinging itself and not Linux Server. The hostname of Linux Server is "localhost.localdomain" as well. It's a kind of confusing to me.
From the above infromation, we  can see 2 VMs cannot connect with each other. Net Manager in Windows XP Oracle Client cannot connect its Service PT853.
I don't understand how to connect Oracle Client in Windows with Oracle Database Server in Linux. Can any folk help to solve this issue ?
    Very grateful in advanced.

  • Installing Windows Server and Linux on a hyper-v

    Scott Alan Miller wrote:

That allow the sunlight into your office?! :)

Are you allowed to install Linux in a hyper-v on the same hardware as a Windows server? Also, would there be any issues to crop up? I am curious because I want to put Windows Server 2012 on one VM, Exchange on another VM, and then a Linux Server on another VM all on the same physical hardware. Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V would be hosting them all. The reason for the Linux Server is to use it for anti-virus or spam etc. and Linux is a free OS. I am curious though how it will jive with a Windows domain as well as being on the same machine as a hosted VM.

  • What are your experiences in integrating Windows AD and Linux

I got into a job with a domain of about 70 Windows PCs and about 100 Linux machines.
The domains are quite old, and I mean Samba 4 and NIS old. Obviously one wants something newer, as in AD on the Windows side and Kerberos/LDAP on the Linux side. Preferably with a single user-database.
Question to the more experienced members:
    Should I go
    - Windows based and use something like an OpenLDAP Proxy for the Linux-LDAP
    or
    - Samba 4 based AD with the same
    or
    - Any of the above with Linux attributes added to the user entries in LDAP
What are thoughts and experiences on this? Especially is Samba 4 stable enough to be used in a production environment? What experiences with having Linux machines running in AD directly or via LDAP Proxy/Kerberos Proxy?

    1. Thsi contribution is not discussion, it is question. So better category is needed.
    2. Samba forum is better platform for topics llike Samba stability. Your infrastructure is much closer to Linux one.
    3. As you has landed in Windows Server forum, I would recommend using Windows Server 2012 R2. This is stable and reliable. Homogeneous infrastructure brings less headaches that hybrid one.

  • Dual Booting Windows 7 and Linux on a IdealPad Y580

Okay, I am a gradaute student and need to have linux dual booted with windows 7 on my y580.  It currently has windows 7 on it. However, it already has four primary partitions.
    C:/ Windows OS
    A hidden OEM
    D:/Lenovo
    And a boot system drive.
Is there anyway to convert one of thse drives into an extended partition ?   HowCan I delete one of the partitions ? did you guys get your dual boots to work in this case. Please list step by step if possible.

    Hello and welcome,
You can probably finagle the partitions to allow for dual boot: copy the contents of D: to C: and delete D:, for instance.   Speculating, since I don't have an IdeaPad to test on. You usually/probably/maybe lose the OneKey Recovery feature if you touch the partitions.
Others here on the Linux board may have been able to preserve OKR, but I'll leave that to them to describe since I haven't done it.
Long way of leading up to the question: is it sufficient to run Linux in a virtual machine, or as a WUBI install within windows?  That keeps things simple and makes backups much easier as well.
Whatever you do, burn your recovery media first.  Now.

  • Dual boot with Windows 7 and LINUX - Tecra A11 (PTSE1A-00L005)

    Hi,
I bought a new Tecra A11 Laptop which runs WIN7 Pro. I want to install LINUX also. That means, I want to run my laptop in dual boot Win7 Pro/LINUX (any distributor). Please tell me how to do that.
There are 5 partitions on the HDD:
    1. Active, Recovery partiton 1.46 Gb (no drive letter)
    2. Active Primary C: Boot 145.04 Gb (NTFS)
    3. Active Logical E: 78.13 Gb (NTFS)
    4. Active Logical F: 64.25 Gb (NTFS)
    5. Primary Partition 9.2 Gb (no drive letter, application unknown)
Hey, I need it badly, because I have admitted to a course of RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer)
    Please help me

    Hi
I may not be able to give You a step-by-step explanation but most distros today offer a possibility to co-exist with Windows.
During the installation the unused free space will be taken by Linux (with the consent of the user of course!!)
What exact setup is needed by You is impossible for anyone else to say, but I would suggest to make the space occupied by the F drive available for Linux.
You seem to have space enough for Windows and the Linux OS does not need much.
Some thoughts concerning your partition setup:
I would NOT touch 1,2 and 5 no matter what. They are your system and some system internal partitions (recovery environment and data) and would not be fun to lose.
    1. Active, Recovery partiton 1.46 Gb (no drive letter)
    2. Active Primary C: Boot 145.04 Gb (NTFS)
    3. Active Logical E: 78.13 Gb (NTFS)
    4. Active Logical F: 64.25 Gb (NTFS)
    5. Primary Partition 9.2 Gb (no drive letter, application unknown)
So pick a Distro (my suggestion Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, OpenSuse - Fedora will be the one closest related to RedHat) which will guide You through the steps to allocate space for Linux.
I would suggest however to remove the drive F in Windows so Linux does not start resizing all partitions.
I am sure that will work fine, but will just take time and the pretty unnecessary F drive will most surely be kept.
If You already have valuable data on your unit, make sure to back it up!! No software comes with warranties :)
Last but not least - make 100% sure to create a recovery set with the help of Toshiba Recovery media creator BEFORE you start installing Linux.
If something goes wrong You might want to have the possibility to put the unit back into factory state.
Good luck and keep asking if You need additional help!
    Tom

  • Has anyone successfully installed OSX, Windows 7 and Linux on macbook pro 8, 2

I just want to know before I take a shot at this, if there are any success storys of this or similar model macbook pro
also i want to do this while having a shared partition for music movies and pics to share between the 3 os's
also i would prefer all efi, but understand that i will most likely have to at least have windows in bios mode
so please post your fails and successes as this may help me
idk if any tianocore bootduet works on macbook pro either if anyone knows more about that please post
and i will post my results and attempts
also the linux i will use will most likely be ubuntu
one more thing, when i first got this macbook, the superdrive wasnt recognised in ubuntu so it would boot, then fail while trying to load the files
so i tried many things, couldnt get even cd combined with usb to work, so i waited, now with the recent release of 12.04 LTS, ubuntu will boot just fine on my macbook so i know it can now be done

No problem installing on my windows 7 x64 systems.  Try uninstall AIR seperateley and then reinstalling it.  Then reinstall IB.  Note the more recent help systems also run Air so you can test that as well.
I believe this is the url for air (or try off the adobe home page)
    http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-AIR
you need to make sure you get the most recent as IB and AIR are more current then the ELEMents installs.
    Don't uninstall elements.

  • Main difference between windows version and linux/mac version?

    Hi,
Our lab just buy a labview package 2011 and it comes with several dvds, including
    For windows
    1) NILabView Core Software DVD1/2
    2) NILabView Core Software DVD2/2
    3) Extended Development Suite
    4) Labview Option DVD1/2
    5) LabView Option DVD 2/2,
    6) Ni device drivers
    For Mac/Linux
    1) Professional Developement SyStem
Why there are that many dvds for windows, but only one disc for mac/linux? What's the main difference? I aslo curious if there is any advantage to use MAC/LINUX (in terms of efficiency or speed)?

I have been using LV on the Mac almost exclusively since version 1.2.
    <soapbox mode = ON>
It has been a major source of frustration, that so many features available to the Windows versions are not available on the Mac.  Some, like Vision, started (as iMAQ ) on the Mac, but are now Windows-only. Things like .NET are understandable, just as the Windows version probably does not support Apple Events. But support for all DAQ devices, Vision, the State Chart program and many others are missing with no good explanation from NI.
Just trying to figure out what is supported on which platforms is a major headache. NI's website does not make that obvious, particularly at the Buy page, where is should be extremely clear as to what you get for ~$5k or not. Given the substantial discrepancy between the features on the various platforms, the price should also reflect that.
Field representatives and phone support people often do not know these things as well.
Nancy Pelosi is quoted as having said that the health care bill had to be passed so we could see what was in it.  Apparently some of the marketing people at NI are the same way.  But the Mac/Linux versions at full price so you can find out what is not in them.
