Difference b/w scanning TEXT vs. IMAGES (or printing to pdf in PREVIEW)?

I have my scanner set to 300 dpi Color TIFF.
Is this giving me something different when I scan a text document or when I scan a series of images? Do these then get /converted/ in some way that I am not understanding when I print to pdf in PREVIEW? I run File > Print > Pulldown to pdf and SaveAs pdf. Does this do something to the images that it doesn't do to the text or vice-versa?
I have pdf's that are from 100 MB to 900 MB and I am trying to downsize them with this set of "quartz filters" (whatever that is).
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1292868?start=0&tstart=0
But doing this on a text pdf seems to work great and doing it on a pdf of scans of images (scanned with the same settings) doesn't reduce the file size?! I have a 33 page pdf of images and it is 66 GB in size and my email pipe is choking on it.
TIA

Hi Jason.
Interesting about the jpg's not degrading much upon compression. For some reason I have moved to TIFF due to recommendations on quality (?) and to png due to recommendations on bandwidth (?).
Also thanks for 150 px.
For me it is a little hard to switch back and forth between image settings and b + w settings but I will start keeping an eye on line art settings for b + w. Thanks again.
Is it possible anyone knows of a way to downsample a color pdf of images that are TIFF and 300 dpi or to downsample a black and white pdf that is in the same settings but is in Color Currently?
I'm running some quartz filter reduction routines on my largest pdf's (500 MB?!) and in some cases dropping it down to the 150 Average Compression is totally trashing these files. I can't understand what is going on or whether it is only doing it to the images and /why/ it is doing this to the images.
I mean, I'm getting ready to move these off my mac hard drive and onto a windows hard drive just to downsize them so I can move along...
Thanks.

  • The text and image are printing much smaller then what I selected.

I sized the canvas to 8.5 and 11. I layed the pic out and used 24pt type, but when I printed it, it came out tiny and looked like 1pt type.
    What did I do wrong?

On the screen it might be that when using text the image is not zoomed to 100% and hence your text might look like big on screen but small when viewed at 100% of the image. Try viewing your image once at 100% and check if your font size is apporpriate. Else increase the font size and save and view in Photo Viewer or at 100% zoom in Editor and make sure it looks fine.
Also try to print on Adobe PDF prior to actual print out to make sure it works fine.
    Thanks,

  • Missing images when printing to pdf from Word

When printing to pdf from MS Word 2003 in some cases textboxes and/or images disappear in the target PDF, depending on their position.
Word and Acrobat Standard are the latest updates. If the Word text is converted on a Mac the target pdf has the images present, so it looks like it's a Windows only problem. Any suggestions where to start looking for a fix?

You may have to turn on "display large images" in the preferences.

  • Firefox prints all webpages as images while printing as pdf.

I save pages as pdf using PDF-Printer that comes with Acrobat X Pro. But Firefox (16.0.2) prints the pages (text plus images) as image. This makes it impossible to select text or use search feature.
I tested it with IE and Chrome. In both cases the created PDFs are as expected (texts can be selected).
I tried the solution outlined in the following links and none of them work.
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-printing-problems-firefox
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/809705?esab=a&as=aaq
I am using WIndows 7 OS. I don't assume it's bug. If it's a feature does anyone know how to disable it?
    Thanks

If the printer (PDF printer settings) has an option to '''Embed fonts''' you can try selecting that. Another thing you could try is to print a sample from notepad. If it's okay you can try that font type for '''Serif''' in Firefox '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Content%20panel Content] > '''Advanced''' (beside Fonts & Colors) > while deselecting '''Allow pages to choose their own fonts, ...''' and check.

  • Why does the text in text boxes go invisible when annotating PDFs in preview?

If I hover my mouse over where the text box is, the little yellow box that tells you what text is there comes up and shows what the box is supposed to say, but the text is invisible. If I double click the area where the text is supposed to be, it highlights and makes the text visible again. Its not that the text is white, because if i drag it over a dark area, it still doesn't show up. This happens when I open it up again after annotating and saving/closing it. I attached pictures of my cursor hovering over the invisible text box, and one of it hovering over an unaffected text box, for comparison. This has happened to me before. What is happening and how do i stop it?

But, about half the time, when i am finished typing and click out of the box, back to view the result, the text does not appear. If i go back to Edit Content within the box, it is there, but disappears when i exit the box. It does not print when i print a test sheet.
The fact that 'about half the time' you are seeing this issue and presumably not the other part of the time, I would suggest trying to run the 'Repair Database' option in the First Aid dialog:
Quit Aperture > press and hold Option + Command keys while launching Aperture > select and run the 'Repair Database' option.
    Post back as needed.

  • How to avoid that some text [instructions] will be printed in PDF (forms)?

The idea is that some texts may be seen in the screen but not printed when the form is filled up.
Adobe has information on this in ECycle but could not find any reference in Acrobat X or Indesign.
It may be a solution to convert a frame text to a button and change thus its appeareance; but converting many continous texts in a form to single frames is a very dispensing task.

Place the text in a text field and set its visibility properties to "Visible, but doesn't print".
Alternatively, if the text is a part of the running text of the PDF and can't be placed in a form field, place a white form field on top of this text, and set that field's visibility to "Hidden but printable", so it would in effect hide the text underneath it when the file is printed, but will be invisible when viewed on screen.

  • Why has part of an image not printed from pdf file?

Hi, I have recently used Indesign to do the layout for a press advertisement. I exported the file as a High Quality pdf file to send to the printer. The logo on the advertisement  has not printed out correctly - the text part of the logo is showing but not the surrounding graphic. When you export and view the pdf file onscreen, everything looks fine. The graphic part of the logo is white - would this have anything to do with why it has not printed? What options should I have checked/unchecked to make sure the pdf prints exactly as it is seen onscreen or is it a problem with the logo file itself?
    I would appreciate any assistance.

    Hi
if the logo is placed in front of the tint/backgrounds, if it's reverse the tint/background same color will be applied and the percentage of the color has been changed to 0%. it will works fine rather than changing the overprint/knockout. hopes it works.
I'm afraid I don't understand waht you are trying to say here. The white in a logo should generally never be set to overprint. The only way I can think of to get any interaction between a backgorund and a white overprint is to use a blending mode, and that would affect the other colors as well, typically not what you want in a logo situation.
This is a mistake in the construction of the original art, not a problem at can be fixed directly in ID.

  • Text needs to be printed in PDF but needs to be invisible in sapscript

    Hi Experts,
We have a requirement to print a text but that should be available only in PDF and not in print preview or in print.
Please advice how coud I do it.
    Best Regards,
    Ranjeet.

    Hi,
Any way to convert script form into pdf you will pass as 'X' to the field OPTIONS-TDGETOTF of the function module OPEN_FORM. You can check the field in the script to differentiate between the print form or pdf to display the text.
I think it will help you.
    Thanks

  • Envy 4500 won't scan text to produce a searchable PDF file

I used to have a Photosmart 4400 C printer that would let me scan to produce searchable PDF files, i.e. I could select letters or words using a text selection tool in my PDF reader.   Today I Just purchased a ENVY 4500 e- All-in-One-Series.  It will only scan text to give me a graphic PDF file that is not searchable.  I updated to the latest driver EN4500_198.exe but that doesn't help. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, No, the Envy 4500 does not have any OCR software by default, you have to pay for that software and believe this or not, the software is more expensive than the printer itself. You can buy the software or you can try to use few free software around:     http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-ocr-software.htm Regards,

  • Image not printed in SapScript, only after page break

    Hi,
I have a problem in printing an image (stored as text) in a sapscript. The image was uploaded correctly from a TIF file in tcode SE78. The image contains a signature and I need to print it at variable positions within the form. That is I need to print it in the MAIN window. The image does not get printed when a page break occurs when outputing the text element containing the picture. If the page break occurs when outputing any (other) text, the image is printed correctly (after that text).
Has anybody else encountered this problem? Could it be a sapscript bug?
    Thx in advance.

  • Word hidden text printing to PDF.  How can I stop this?

I am using Acrobat X.  Every time I try to convert Word to PDF, the hidden text in Word appears in the PDF document.  I don't recall this happening in earlier versions of Acrobat.  How can I stop hidden text in Word from printing to PDF?

On the Mac there is not Reader Uninstaller.
For a simple uninstall You simply drag the application to the trash and empty it.
For a complete removal it takes a bit of doing.
    Reader Removal Process
    1. Use the Go menu>Go To Folder
    2. Paste the path in the Go To Folder dialog:
      /Library/Internet Plug-ins/
    3.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" and move it to the Trash
    4.  In the Authentication dialog, provide your Administrator password.
    5.  Select the file "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" and move it to the Trash
    6.  In the Authentication dialog, provide your Administrator password.
    7.  Use the Go menu>Go To Folder
    8.  Paste the path in the Go To Folder dialog:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/
    9.  Select the folder "Reader" and move it to the Trash
    10.  In the Authentication dialog, provide your Administrator password.
    11.  Use the Go menu>Go To Folder
    12.  Paste the path in the Go To Folder dialog:
    /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Preferences/
    13.  Select the file "com.adobe.ARM.plist" and move it to the Trash
    14.  Select the file "com.adobe.Reader.plist" and move it to the Trash
    15.  Select the file "com.adobe.Synchronizer.11.0.plist" and move it to the Trash
    16.  Use the Go menu>Go To Folder
    17.  Paste the path in the Go To Folder dialog:
    /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
18  Select the Folder Acrobat and move ( DO NOT DELETE ) it to a new folder on the Desktop (Note this may contain signature files and other data you want to keep).
    19.  Done
    Reinstall Adobe Reader
Download the DMG from Adobe Reader Install for all versions
Open the DMG to mount the image in your Downloads folder
    Double click on the installer
    Follow the prompts.
Finish the installation of Adobe Reader XI

  • Possible to scan a document into Acrobat XPro,then replace part of that PDF with text or image file?

    Hi everyone,
Is it possible first to  scan a paper document into Acrobat X Pro, and then to replace a "pane" or box within that PDF with a text or image file?
Would it require  SDK and Javascript?
    Thanks,
    Rick Weinhaus

    CtDave and others:
Here's the problem in more detail.
I am a physician and I already have the ability to incorporate paper-based
documents into an electronic health record (EHR) by scanning them and
saving them as PDFs.  The documents are paper patient encounter forms with
a different box or 'pane' for each category of data.   Each box has a fixed
    location on the paper form.
There are three situations, however, where I want to have the option to
overwrite certain boxes of the PDF with data generated by methods other
    than scanning.
    1) Insert text macros with variable fields using the electronic health
    record's software.
    2) Insert a drawing available as a pre-existing JPG or generated by using a
    tablet.
    3) Insert text generated using Dragon Naturally Speaking.
For efficient office workflow, in all three cases the text or image to be
inserted into the box or 'pane' in the PDF needs to be generated while I am
still seeing the patient -- that is -- before the paper form has been
scanned and converted to a PDF.
The sticky note tool is one option, but I would want to be able to modify
the default size of the sticky note so that it corresponded exactly to the
size of the box it was 'overwriting.'  I can't figure out how to do this?
Could it be done using scripting?
Furthermore, I would want the sticky notes to automatically display when
the PDF was opened, so that a hover would close rather than open them.  This
sticky note method would have the advantage of allowing the user to toggle
back and forth between inserted data and any original handwritten text.
    Any thoughts?
    Rick

  • How can I erase the residual background text and images from the backside of a scanned page?

How can I erase the residual background text and images from the backside of a scanned page?
Also, I wanted to know what each subscriptions included as far as my question above is concerned?
I am trying to edit a scanned page (pdf file) by changing some words and erasing the background from the page that is showing through it since the paper is so thin and want to know which subscription to buy in order to complete these tasks?

This cannot be done in Reader. I think you will need software like Photoshop. You may be able to get buy with Photoshop Elements, but I haven't used recent versions of that software. Using either software this will not be an automated task.

  • Why is the scan size of our epson 15Mb for PDF using image capture?

    Hi All-
This has been plaguing us since Snow Leopard when we lost the Epson Scanner tool from Epson to Image Capture scanning using our Epson 835 Artisan.
PDF sizes are ridiculous using Image Capture.
For example, 3 pages of text using Image Capture =
         15Mb
Using the same printer, same 3 pages and the builtin Epson Scanner (from the printer panel) and a USB stick =
         1.2Mb
This has been happening since the SL upgrade (as mentioned) but I had hoped that Epson/Apple could get their act together on the Epson drivers for ML.  Seems not to be the case.  It is kind of a drag to have a Network available Scanner only to have the built in software be a bum steer.  Not only that, but no relief from Epson since their Scanner program (as bad as it was UI wise, but at least you got a mail-able document) has been discontinued...
    Any ideas?
    jp

This doesn't answer the question but it is a workaround.
How is the quality if you do this:
Open the PDF in Apple Preview
    Choose File/Export
In Export, choose PDF format with the Quartz Filter option "Reduce File Size"
If it's ugly, there's a way to adjust the compression settings by using Apple ColorSync Utility to make a modified copy of the Reduce File Size filter with different settings. By playing with this I was able to start with a 7.1MB PDF scan from Image Capture, and export variations based on different Reduce File Size settings:
5.3MB (JPEG Max) - looks great
188KB (JPEG Min) - looks good as the 5.3 MB copy actually
40K (Automatic) - too blurry to be usable
If you were to perfect your own compression filter you could just export each PDF through Preview after scanning it, or presumably you could build some kind of drag-and-drop conversion utility in Automator although I don't know anything about Automator.
It's a workaround because I could not determine a way to apply a Quartz filter from Image Capture itself when saving a PDF.
