  • Architectural difference between 11i and R12

    Hello Guys:
I am planning do a training in Oracle Apps very soon. We are running 11.5.10 CU2 and for the most part it won't be upgraded to R12 in at least next 1 year. Now that the R12 is released Oracle has more of R12 trainings than 11i. Given this situation I am in a dilemma has to which version I should be doing the training. 11i or R12.
I firmly believe that unless otherwise there is a huge change in Application Architecture I should go with R12. I went through some of the R12 release notes and to me it looks there is not much of a difference in Architecture between 11i and R12. Do you think my decision to do R12 is wise?
Hussein , your thoughts on this?

I went through some of the R12 release notes and to me it looks there is not much of a difference in Architecture between 11i and R12. "Oracle Applications Concepts - R12" manual lists all the new changes/components in Oracle E-Business Suite R12 on the Application, Database, and Desktop tiers.

  • Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database

Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database
    please give the comments

Well, the question is almost philosophic...<br>
In 9i, there is a Migration Guide whereas in 10g there is a Upgrade Guide.<br>
Furthermore, in 9i, there is the command line startup migrate whereas in 10g that's startup upgrade.
Somebody think upgrade when go to new release, and migration when go to new version.<br>
Others think upgrade when new version replace database in place, and migration when new version include a move of database.<br>
Another point of view is : upgrade is for technical, and migration for application/data.<br>
    <br>
Well, after these explanations, your upgrade/migratation notion will not be more clear, but I think that is not very important, only a terminology game. The most important is to know what you need : new version or new release.<br>

  • Difference between 'setup' and 'configuration' in Oracle Apps

    Hi,
    Thank in advance.
I want to know Difference between 'setup' and 'configuration'(Oracle Apps ). Could you provide the details with an example, please?
    Regards,
    Raghavendra Rao

    Business Requirement:-
    ===============
A company may want to allow all of its employees to make purchases up to $10 without having such purchases approved. Another company may have a business rule that each employee’s approval limit depends on his or her position within the organization.
    Question:-
    =======
How to reach the above requirement?
Is it thorugh configuration or setup?
It must be through configuration and not set up.
Set up is something like one time.. Configuration can be changed depends on your business needs.
Like if your company wants to increases the limit from 10 to 100$, then change in configuration is needed.
Hope you got the answer.. if you want more explanation, please be specific....

  • Differences between MOLAP and ROLAP in ORACLE

Surest i´m in a mistake but i want to tell you...
I think that if i want to build a data warehouse i have two options in ORACLE.
    1. MOLAP data warehouse.
So i have to create an analytic workspace and define there logic objects like dimensions, hierarchies, levels, and so on. Later i map data from OLTP systems to the logic objects ... (here i have a question)
    * The OLTP data must be in a star or snowflake scheme?
    * The ETL stage is made on OLTP or in analytic workspace?
... and later i execute calculates over the logic objects form a OLAP application ... (here i have another question).
    * I can make this calculates with OLAP DML or just with SQL???
    2. ROLAP data warehouse. Here i just create tables (facts and dimensions) in a star o snowflake scheme, load data from OLTP systems on this tables and
later i consult them using pure SQL.
Someone from this respectable forum can tell me if i'm in a mistake. I appreciate your help.
    Thanks a lot.

    Lisandro-
The MOLAP option includes creating the cubes, dimension and hierarchies etc in the analytical workspace and there corresponding metadata. This perhaps you could do easily using the new version of AWM 10g. Apart from creating the bare objects to store the cubes and dimension, AWM also creates the necessary metadata to store the description, hierarchies etc.
AWM enables you to create the MOLAP objects and map the relation structures (views/tables) which will populate the cubes/dimension in MOLAP. Typically one creates the star schema data model in relational schema in form of set of tables and then maps the AW objects (Cubes/dimension) using AWM to fetch the data from the relational data model. It is very rare that some one maintains staging area in the AW (molap storage). You can get rid of relation star schema if the source system are simple and can be easily mapped to the cubes/dimension.
    2. For the ROLAP option, it is not just creating set of relation tables and the foreign key relationship between them (star schema) and accessing through SQL. But part from creating the star schema it involves creating necessary metadata around it. This you can do it either through OEM, CWM pl/sql apis. You can get the further details in the OLAP User Guide.
The meta data inturn is used by reporting tools like BI Beans, Discoverer and Spreadsheet addin. The meta data and the OLAP API (which is part of Oracle OLAP) enables reporting tools to pose the complex analytics queries to the ROLAP schema.
    Hope this helps

  • Architectural difference in oracle HRMS 11i and r12

Hi - does anyone have information on the architectural difference between 11i and r12 in oracle hrms??

    Hi 924227,
There is not much difference between 11i and R12 with respect to architecture.
Some D2k forms moved to OAF and mainly bug fixes and minor enhancements.
You can find all the details in the below note -
Oracle E-Business Suite HRMS / HCM Information Center [ID 1099813.1]
In Fusion, there will be many changes as a lot of things are incorporated from Pplsoft.

  • Difference between TAXINN and TAXINJ

    Dear Friend,
Any one tell me the what are the difference between TAXINN and TAXINJ.
    regards
    Joseph

    Hello,
The only difference between TAXINJ & TAXINN is that TAXINJ is formula based tax calculation procedure for India and TAXINN is that condition based tax calculation procedure. Now a dayu2019s most of the companies are using TAXINJ procedure.
In formula based we are using the formula like (excisecessvat/cst etc.,) but in condition based we just maintain the tax codes which are relevant to taxes and these tax codes has been assign to condition records which we are maintained in MM and SD configuration.
    Thanks

  • Difference between Macros and subroutines

Hi experts can any one tell difference between macros and subroutines.

    1) Macros can only be used in the program the are defined in and only after the definition are expanded at compilation / generation. Subroutines (FORM) can be called from both the program the are defined in and other programs . A MACRO is more or less an abbreviation for some lines of code that are used more than once or twice. A FORM is a local subroutine (which can be called external). A FUNCTION is (more or less) a subroutine that is called external. Since debugging a MACRO is not really possible, prevent the use of them (I’ve never used them, but seen them in action). If the subroutine is used only local (called internal) use a FORM. If the subroutine is called external (used by more than one program) use a FUNCTION
    2)  The macros, which we may use,
    (stored in table TRMAC)
, we cannot debug that code.
    3) where as in subroutine,
its a abap code, directly visile in
    the editor,
and we can debug this code.
    4) MACROS =>
    Getting a feel of macros
The basic syntax of macros is as follows:
    DEFINE macro_name. "Macro Definition
    ……………. Statements
    ……………. Statements
    END-OF-DEFINITION. "Macro Definition
macro_name par1 par2 …par9. "Macro call -parameters separated by spaces
Within the DEFINE... and END-OF-DEFINITION lies the body of the macro—the statements that you wish to be executed each time the macro is called. These statements may be any valid ABAP statements, such as WRITE, CLEAR, FORM calls, or database statements such as SELECT or UPDATE.
To familiarize yourself with the working of macros, it's necessary to take a close look at exactly what happens when an ABAP program containing a macro call is generated. Consider Listing A.
All ABAP programs must be generated before they can be executed. At the time of program generation, the system supplants each macro call, as shown in Listing A, with the statement(s) placed between the macro definition. Furthermore, the parameters passed at the time of macro calling are copied in place of the any placeholders (numbered &1, &2 …&9) found in the body of the macro definition. The system simply ignores the presence of the macros during the execution of the program—that is, all statements are executed as a single block of code:
    write : int1.
    write : int2.
    write : int3.
Other than readability and meaningfulness, macros also offer performance advantages. For testing purposes, I wrote a macro that incremented the value of a variable by 1 and called the macro N times via a DO loop, as shown here:
    DEFINE INCREMENT.
    ADD 1 TO &1.
    END-OF-DEFINITION.
    DO N TIMES.
    INCREMENT VAR1.
    ENDDO.
    SUBROUTINES=>
    Subroutines
You call subroutines from ABAP programs using the PERFORM statement.
Subroutines are introduced with the FORM statement and concluded with the ENDFORM statement.
You can define subroutines in any ABAP program. You can either call a subroutine that is part of the same program or an external subroutine, that is, one that belongs to a different program. If you call an internal subroutine, you can use global data to pass values between the main program and the subroutine. When you call an external subroutine, you must pass actual parameters from the main program to formal parameters in the subroutine.

  • Difference between dispose and setVisible(false)?

What is the difference between dispose() and setVisible(false)? The only difference I see is that setVisible(false) and bring a window back by using a true flag, while dispose() cannot. Other than that, they appear to do the same thing.
If I want to get rid of a window (with no intention of bring it back), which should I use?
Also, is there a memory advantage to using one or the other?
    Thanks for any responses.

setVisible just makes it visible or not...the advantage would be that you would not have to constantly spend time creating a new object, downside is it sits in memory until you really need it again.
dispose will actually tell the gc it's ok to clean up the object...and you would have to make a new one each time you wanted to use it...advantage, frees up ram, disadvantage, takes time to create objects over and over.

  • Differences between OA 11i and R12 on User Management

    Hi All,
Please give some details about differences between OA 11i and R12 on User Management (Role Responsibilities and Role Based Access Control, etc).
Please advise me on this regard.
Moreover,I don't have any Metalink username and Password.
    Thanks

New features introduced for User Management (UMX) in R12
The following are the new features introduced in R12 for User Management (UMX):
    1)Proxy User:
    This new functionality:
    · Provides the delegator the ability to grant/revoke the proxy privilege to individuals
    · Provide a mechanism throughout the application’s framework where the user can access the proxy switcher feature
    · Provide a mechanism throughout the application’s framework which indicates to the user that they are acting as a proxy
    · Provide the ability to track the delegate’s actions within the system, while the delegate is acting on behalf of the delegator (Audit)
    Benefits of Proxy User:
Ability to delegate proxy authority provides great security controls and Granular control of proxy authority is provided i.e delegate authority can be specified for date ranges
    2) ICM (Separation of Duties – SoD) Integration
Oracle User Management is integrated with Oracle Internal Controls Manager (ICM) for the prevention, detection, enforcement, and resolution of separation-of-duties constraints during the assignment of roles by administrators to users.
For example, a constraint (created using a set of ICM UIs) can be defined such that no user is allowed to have "Role A" and "Role B" at the same time. In such a case, anadministrator attempting to assign Role B to a user who already has Role A will be presented with a dialog page displaying the constraint violation information.
At this point, the administrator can take one of two actions:
    • Go back to the role assignment page and remove the assignment that is causing the
    violation.
    • Override the constraint violation, if he has the "AMW: Allow SOD Violation
    Override" permission granted to him.
With this permission, the administrator will see Apply and Cancel buttons on the constraint violation dialog page. Clicking Apply will override the constraint, and assign Role B to the user despite the warning. Clicking Cancel will cancel the save operation without granting Role B to the user.
UMX integration with ICM is enabled according to the setting of site-level profile option "UMX: Enable ICM Validation". The default value is "Yes".
    3) Enhanced Forget Username/Password Functionality
Forgot Username Functionality is Introduced in R12 along with Forgot Password. So now Users can query on either lost “username” or lost “password” Users should enter email address if lost username and enter username if lost password
Users can now aslo reset username as part of email address verification instead of a two step process.
4)New Registration Process Type for Administrator Role Assignment
New Registration Process Type is introduced for type “Administrator Assisted Additional Access”
Different policies (registration processes) can be used as administrative actions vs. self service requests for
    · Approval Routing
    · UI
    · Notifications
    · Business Logic
Simpler registration processes can be created for self-service and administrator flavors
Support for alternative approvals for administrator role assignment is also introduced.
    5) Security Wizard Infrastructure
    a)Security Wizard Infrastructure
    · Infrastructure for product teams to create their own security wizards in context of a role.
    · Product teams can create their wizards and seed relevant information
    · These wizards appear in list of security wizards available to the administrator when creating/updating role information
b)New User Interface for Delegated Administration
    · Existing functionality(11.5.10) of delegated administration setup implemented using wizard infrastructure
    · Wizard guides the user through what options they can set for a delegated administration
    6) Search Enhancement for List of Value’s (LOV)
Search Enhancements has been made in LOV’s in User management.
    a) All LOVs in User Management (UMX) are now searchable by
    · Role
    · Responsibility
    · Both
    · Internal Code
b)A type included in the results – to differentiate roles and responsibilities
