Difference between 2nd generation and 3rd generation 8Gb iPod touch

Hello,
I recently won a 2nd generation 8Gb iPod Touch (Part No. MB528LL/A) that I would like to sell. I want to be able to tell the buyer the differences between the 2nd generation model and the 3rd generation model. According to Wikipedia in regards to the 3rd generation model:
"The 8 GB version is a reissue of the 2nd generation iPod touch hardware, includes OS version 3.x, but does not include support for Voice Control or the remote earphones with microphone."
According to Wikipedia in regards to the 2nd generation model:
"iPhone OS 2.0 and App Store access standard. Bluetooth support added but not made active until iPhone OS 3.0, which requires an upgrade fee."
Does anyone know if these statements are true? Are there any other differences? Is the 2nd generation model more or less desirable than the 3rd generation?
Thanks in advance!

  • 3rd gen 8GB ipod touch stuck on connect to itunes

This isn't fair. I just bought this 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch (my first ipod ever, only owned Mp3 players) from best buy today and i can't even use it...
I'm going to start from square one, this will be long-winded, so forgive me in advance. But detail might help you guys help me out...
Okay, all giddy with excitement I boot up my touch for the first time. It tells me to connect it to itunes. I do that, hooking up the touch to the computer via usb. Vista detects it, installs the "apple mobile device" drivers just fine. Good, so then I open up itunes -- latest version -- and it's telling me to set up my ipod; name it, etc. Alright, I'm almost bursting at the seams here with excitement, but then itunes is notifying me that iOS4 is out. I upgrade, it takes a few minutes to do its stuff, it's done, and bam it's working. I play with the ipod a little bit, looking at the apps that already came with it. I disconnect, play with it, then reconnect to the computer again.
So now, itunes for some reason is doing a "recovery" process -- i did not tell it to initiate this. So it's in the process of "recovering" (backing up, i guess?) and Vista is prompting me to install the driver "Apple Mobile Device (Recovery)" I tell it ok, locate and install them. It does that, I'm guessing, for it's now prompting me to insert a CD. Well, there is no CD so I tell it to find this driver on the internet. It says "cannot find drivers check manufacturer's support site blah blah blah." At this point, itunes tells me that it cannot complete the "recovery process" -- no error code or anything, and the dialog box closes.
Now, my ipod goes into the connect to itunes screen. Itunes does not recognize it, for it does not even display my ipod at all. Vista does however, and each time i connect the ipod to the computer it attempts to install the "apple mobile device (recovery)" driver and fails each time. I don't know what's happening. I've lost all functionality in my ipod, can't even get into DFU. iTunes just refuses to recognize it. I've tried all of those fixes (reinstalling itunes, rebooting, trying that method where you go into device manager and update the apple mobile device (recovery) drivers....all of it doesn't work). I've spent hours websearching...
And I'm at a loss. I'm ready to throw this thing somewhere. Can you guys suggest any help for me? Please...

  • What is the different between ipod touch 2nd generation and 3rd generation?

    Hi all
I bought a 3rd generation 8GB ipod touch for SGD$308 and the reseller selling the 2nd generation at SGD$288.
I read on the article apparently for the 3rd generation only the 16GB and 32GB ipod touch have voice command and 50% faster processor speed.
My question is what exactly is the difference for the 8GB 3rd generation one as compare with the 2nd generation.

i just bought an ipod touch 8 GB 3G from best buy yesterday ( i wanted to get the 32 GB one, but they didnt have any). I asked the guy at Best Buy if the 3 models (8, 32, 64) were the same (same processor speed etc) except for flash drive size and that the 32 and 64 models came with a mic. He said yes, and now i find out that the one i bought has a slower processor than the 32 and 64 version . I already opened it and added 2 songs and a couple of apps, can i take it back and buy a 32 one since i was given false information ?

  • IPod Classic - Differences between 6th, 7th and 8th generation

I am considering buying an iPod Classic 160gb. Various retailers are offering this as 6th, 7th or 8th generation. Whilst I realise that 8th generation is the most recent, does anyone know what the differences are between 6th, 7th and 8th? (This does appear to make a difference in the retail price). I don't mind buying a 7th generation if it just means it was manufactured a bit earlier (and allows me to save money) but I may not want it if generation 8 dealt with known bugs, for example, in generation 7). Any help appreciated.

The 2009 model is slimmer. Click here for more information.

  • Difference between current MacBook and the generation before

I'm looking into getting the older generation of the MacBook tomorrow, my school is having a sale and I need to know now.

Depending on which Macbooks you're referring to:
Current macbooks use the Ivy Bridge Processor/Chipset combo with USB3 ports - Intel 4000HD video in the 13 Inch models and Intel HD video + Nvidia discrete graphics in the 15 Inch Macbooks.
2011 Macbooks came with the Sandy Bridge Processor/Chipset combo with USB2 ports - Intel 3000HD video in the 13 Inch models and Intel HD vido + AMD/ATI discrete graphics in the 15 Inch Macbooks...
    2010 and below - have a look here and compare - www.everymac.com.

  • What are the differences between iPod 2nd and 3rd Generation models?

    Hi:
I have a couple questions about the differences between some of the iPod Touch models:
    1) What is the difference between the *2nd Gen 8GB iPod touch* and the *3rd Gen 8GB iPod touch?*
    2) What are the differences among the *3rd Gen iPod Touch 8GB* model and the *32 GB and 64 GB models* (other than the memory differences)?
    Thanks!

    none, really.

the 32 & 64 GB models have advanced hardware components. 32GB and 64GB Touches gain 3GS specs - roughly 2x faster, with more advanced 3D graphics for games that capitalize on OpenGL 2.0 - and features like Voice Control.

  • 4th gen 8gb ipod touch tiny memory

I have a 4th gen 8gb ipod touch and I can only put around 28 albums on, my dad has a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch and can put 58+ albums on it, why is my memory so small in comparison?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
Also, the music can have different compression. You can go to the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes and check the box that says "Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kbps ACC. A good compression is 128

  • What's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation

PLEASE HELP! New Apple user and looking to purchase a used 2nd or 3rd generation ipod touch.
what's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation?
apparently I am told that the 2nd gen does not have the capabilities of listening without headphone? and the 3rd gen does??

    Hi maximumslowness - (great name),
The 2nd gen Touch has one internal speaker, so you can listen to it, (both left and right channels) without headphones.
However - it's a small single speaker and it is not very loud. It's not designed for quality listening (neither is the speaker on the 3rd gen as far as I know) and probably will not be adequate if there is a lot of background noise nearby.
One option is to drop the iPod (not literally!) into an iPod Docking station so that the sound can play out through a self-contained mains-powered amplified speaker, which will also charge your iPod. There are many on the market. On the bottom of the iPod is the 30-pin dock connector which can be used to feed the audio to a docking station. Another option is simply to use a cable to connect from the headphone socket to the audio input on any amplifier.
Yet another is to plug in a small fold-up style speakers, such as

I've no idea how good the sound is, you'll have to judge that for yourself. The links are both to a UK store, but most countries will have a similar option.
I do not recieve any form of payment or compensatiion for the above links.

  • Any differences between 2nd generation and 3rd genration i-touch

any differences between 2nd generation and 3rd genration i-touch.
    thanks

Game performance is about 10% faster with the 3g, and Apple claims overall speed is 50% faster - though it's hard to tell the difference in everyday usage. The 3g has faster wireless. Most important, the 3g has a maximum of 64gigs storage, which can be very convenient when you're juggling videos, mp3s, podcasts, and audiobooks.

All iPads have the camera except the very first generation. You can only buy an iPad2, the new iPad (4th gen) and the iPad Mini now. You can compare for yourself.

  • HT202157 What is the difference between the 1st and 2nd generation Apple TV?

What is the main difference between the 1st and 2nd generation Apple TV's? I just got the 1st generation and was wondering if I should send back for the 2nd gen?

There is one other difference. The ATV3 uses a new processor with a better graphic processing unit.  If you only had the ATV2 for less than 14 day. Why not upgrade. 1080p video will be a little sharper, but in reality most people won't notice any real difference. It's likely that Apple will stop supporting the ATV 1st gen and 2nd gen in couple of years. Apple as a company usually only supports hardware 5-6yrs max!

  • Difference between 2nd & 3rd gen 32GB touch?

I looked through the recent posts & couldn't find an answer, so hopefully you folks can help me.
I'm thinking of buying a 32GB touch. The 2nd gen is a bit cheaper than the 3rd gen. What are the differences between the two? Is the 3rd gen worth spending the extra money? Thanks.

    Hi JohnnyV,
This was true, but not anymore, Apple do officially recognise the late 2009 version as 3rd gen.

    From apple.com
"The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318."
