  • Real difference in 3rd and 4th generation itouch

Hi I was thinking of upgrading from 3rd generation itouch to 4th generation. Is it worth it. Is there significant differences? They seem the same.

    Hey,
The following website compares the two models
    http://www.thelifedigital.com/ipod-touch-3rd-generation-vs-ipod-touch-4th-genera tion-comparison/
As to whether you should upgrade only you can decide. As I see it the main deciding factor would be the cameras - want to take photos, shoot video or do FaceTime? Then go for the upgrade. Not really bothered? Stick with the perfectly good 3rd gen.
    Hope that helps.

  • Old Docks and 3rd and 4th Gen Ipods

I have a dock from a 3rd gen ipod. My new classic does not fit into this dock. (I don't believe they were really universal yet). Does the 4th gen ipod fit into this dock? I'm looking to buy a used ipod and want to know whether I should limit myself to a 3G or if I can get a 4G.
    Thanks.

My iPod Classic fits just fine inside my 3rd generation iPod dock.

  • What is the difference between 1st and 4th generation wireless?

I see on my various airports there is 1st and 4th generation.  What are the differences?

For the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn):
    1st generation: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports; non-simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n draft
4th generation: 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet ports; simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n final
For the 802.11n Time Capsule (TC):
    1st generation: 500 GB or 1 TB HDD, non-simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n draft
4th generation: 2 TB or 3 TB HDD, simultaneous dual-band operation; 802.11n final

  • Differences between earlier and latest gen Airport Extremes

I bought my first Airport Extreme a few years back. About a year ago or so, it started running quite hot...figured it was because I added more ethernet cables for wired connections to the back of it. I used to only need to reset the router once a week or so to maintain optimal performance for both wired and wireless connections. (We do quite a bit of large LAN data transfers.)
Anyhow, now we find ourselves needing to reset it about once every day or two to keep things running quickly. We have 40down/4up internet speeds yet it struggles to keep things moving for some reason. So we've been debating whether or it's time for a new Airport Extreme or not. If it is...are there any notable differences between units over the years (leaving Airport Express out of the equation)?

You should not have to reset your Extreme at all. They normally run for months on end.
Several years ago there was a firmware update for the original, "round" AirPort Extreme that resulted in the need to periodically reset it as you describe, which was resolved by reverting to an older firmware version. Shortly thereafter Apple introduced the 802.11n Extremes, and subsequently the simultaneous dual band base stations. All Apple base stations are now simultaneous dual band models. If yours predates that model then an upgrade is justified.
40 Mbps download speed is nothing special. Even the earliest model AEBSs would not have presented a limitation.
A current production AirPort Express now has many of the advantages of the current production Extreme. The essential differences are: three LAN ports vs. only one on the Express, Gigabit Ethernet for the Extreme only, the ability to connect a USB hard disk drive (the Express's is for printers only), and the Express's AirPlay audio output. That's pretty much it.

  • What's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation

PLEASE HELP! New Apple user and looking to purchase a used 2nd or 3rd generation ipod touch.
what's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation?
apparently I am told that the 2nd gen does not have the capabilities of listening without headphone? and the 3rd gen does??

    Hi maximumslowness - (great name),
The 2nd gen Touch has one internal speaker, so you can listen to it, (both left and right channels) without headphones.
However - it's a small single speaker and it is not very loud. It's not designed for quality listening (neither is the speaker on the 3rd gen as far as I know) and probably will not be adequate if there is a lot of background noise nearby.
One option is to drop the iPod (not literally!) into an iPod Docking station so that the sound can play out through a self-contained mains-powered amplified speaker, which will also charge your iPod. There are many on the market. On the bottom of the iPod is the 30-pin dock connector which can be used to feed the audio to a docking station. Another option is simply to use a cable to connect from the headphone socket to the audio input on any amplifier.
Yet another is to plug in a small fold-up style speakers, such as
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Folding-Speakers-iPods-Players/dp/B000A1QKNU/re f=sr_1_84?ie=UTF8&qid=1332326622&sr=8-84
    or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generation-Capsule-iPhone-Laptop-Speaker/dp/B002XNO7FQ/r ef=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1332326656&sr=8-6
I've no idea how good the sound is, you'll have to judge that for yourself. The links are both to a UK store, but most countries will have a similar option.
I do not recieve any form of payment or compensatiion for the above links.

We would like to have all our music, photos, etc. on the iPad - is it best to create a new combined Apple ID for the iPad and simply upload our music, photos, etc. via our laptop instead? Does this not then render the iCloud useless to us?

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

Try a soft reset - press the home and power bottons and keep them pressed until the Apple logo comes on.  Then see if you can access Settings.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Take it back to Best Buy and talk to the store manager. Possibly they can work something out with Apple.

  • Difference between RP_PROVIDE_FROM_LAST and RP-PROVIDE-FROM-LAST

Can anyone tell me the difference between RP_PROVIDE_FROM_LAST and RP-PROVIDE-FROM-LAST?  Both the macros are same difference is with underscore(_) and hiphen(-).  Both are working fine for the functionality without any difference.  Then why there are two macros for a single functionality?

Just providing the links are considered as link farming ( which are against the rules of the forums ), the links would be removed for the following reasons:
    1) If a link is provided( not many ) , then you must point out the explanation in it
    2) If the links were easily searchable by the OP
    3) If the links just direct you to sap documentation
    4) If the reply consists only bunch of link references.
I think the 3rd & 4th point made your post to be deleted.
There are no links which states the differences between these two Macro's. Mod's are doing their right job, please join them and make this forum clean

  • Why can't I delete my mail folders on my 4th gen ipad like I could on my 3 gen ipad?

Why can't I delete the old mail messages on this 4th gen ipad. I could do it on my old 3rd gen ipad

    Hi joyceannlake1960,
In the iPad User Guide there are a few good pages that may help get you acquainted with deleting mail messages:

Page 44 has some good info on the layout of the buttons and what they do:

  • What's the difference between 45Wh and 54Wh battery?

    Hi,
I was looking for a new battery for my MacBook Aluminum Unibody (Late 2008) and found that there are 45Wh and 54Wh battery. So what's the difference between 45Wh and 54Wh one at the same capacity? Will the 54Wh one offer a longer usage-time?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

I wouldn't trust it. Even though the new battery is rated at 54 Watt hour but an apple battery may or may not run up to 1000 cycles. I looked the product reviews on amazon and I will go for what others said. However, Apple battery is designated to last about 700-1000 charge cycles but a battery over than 700 cycles. I am apple battery tech savvy. I would like to share my experience and provide sufficient answers to all the people in this forum.
I have no idea what you are trying to say. But I am NOT buying or recommending any 3rd party battery. Please read the post.
