Difference between Apple Mail & Entourage

Hi, I'm very new to mac & was wondering if anyone can explain what is the difference between Apple Mail & Entourage. I'm getting a smart phone soon, anyone has any problem syncing bet the devices & both software??
  Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Let me first of all say that I prefer Apple Mail for its simplicity and unified inbox. But I also use Entourage. Here are a few of my observations:
1. Entourage does include conduits for Palm that work with both the Palm software and Missing Sync.
2. The current versions of Entourage syncs with Address Book and iCal, and has a .mac sync also for Notes. So, instead of using the supplied Palm sync conduits, with Missing Sync I let Entourage sync against the Apple sync system, which then syncs to Palm.
3. Images do not download automatically in the latest version.
4. It has Apple feature support such as AppleScript and Spotlight search.
5. Large mailboxes are stable - they are still not that way in Apple Mail.
6. Exchange Server access is more robust.
7. I have not seen the system load you mention, but I run on large memory systems (2Gb and 4GB.)
8. The interface and behavior is more customizable - I mean sounds, spell checking, and most importantly, when and how to send for each account under particular circumstances. This allows you to queue mail for sending, and then execute it once you are sure, you are not going to change your mind. There are also ways to group mail in the listing pane similar to Outlook. etc.
8. Functionality includes a News Reader integrated with experience, mailing lists manager etc.
The most important aspect is that Entourage takes an integrated producticity approach linking address book, calendar, and communications in one environment. This includes grouping items by project. By necessity, it is more complex this way. Apple offers simplicity and modularity.
It is clear the Microsoft team tried to achieve the best of both worlds. But in that it is more like Outlook - the proverbial kitchen sink!
My way out is to set up a local imap server to share local folders between both applications, and use them depending on circumstance. All my mail servers are imap plus on exchange, so I have the both views onto the same world.
Hope that helps.

  • Differences between Apple Mail and Outlook using EWS

    I know that this issue has been beat to death, so I'm requesting some very specific information to help with troubleshooting. My work has an uncooperative IT department that has indicated if I do the research myself, they will see if they can fix whatever settings are off in Exchange.
    Details:
    I'm using 10.9.3 and trying to connect to an Exchange 2010 server. When using Outlook 2011, everything works perfectly, when using ActiveSync on iPhones and iPads, everything works perfectly, but everything fails when using Apple Mail.
    When using AutoDiscover with Apple Mail, it sets both internal and external servers to webmail.domain.edu, which ends up not working. After some looking around, I set the internal server to xxx-xxx-xxx-02.domain.edu and it starts working perfectly, as long as I'm accessing from within the network. Accessing outside the network results in errors.
    Connecting to the Exchange server from my school works perfectly.
    So my question boils to: What Exchange Server 2010 or EWS settings may make it possible for Outlook 2011 to easily access anywhere, but Apple Mail to fail when AutoDiscover is used anywhere and fail when manual server information is entered and attempted to access outside the network? Absolutely any leads would be appreciated.
    I've run Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer and it's worked perfectly.
    Relevant log portions from failures (with certain information scrubbed)
    When AutoDiscover is used:
    <Autodiscover xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/responseschema/2006>
        <Response>
            <Error Time="11:10:44.4955481" Id="1505556818">
                <ErrorCode>600</ErrorCode>
                <Message>Invalid Request</Message>
                <DebugData/>
            </Error>
        </Response>
    </Autodiscover>
    When internal server is manually entered and attempted to access outside the network (works inside the network)
    2014-06-02 11:08:29.641 Mail[8898:9303] EXCHANGE -[SOAPRequest:0x7fe52f462c10 connection:didFailWithError:] https://domain%[email protected]/EWS/Exchange.asmx//domain%[email protected]/EWS/Exchange.asmx ERROR
    NSURLErrorDomain -1003 A server with the specified hostname could not be found.
    I'd love any brainstorming thoughts. Anything that could help me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    We are running Exchange 2013 here with auto discovery enabled.  We have checked all the MS documentation and our auto discovery is stop correctly, auto discovery does work as the internal server is discovered however as the first post describes email isn't working with outside the internal network without a VPN connected.  One of the guys is leaning towards it being a TLS issue but could just be a stab in the dark.  I've got 3 people from our IT department as well as myself looking into the issue and if we find out what is actually going on, I'll post.

  • What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model

    What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model # MD788LL/A and Model # MD788LL/B

    These models both use the same i7-3820QM processor, so difference(if any) is probably not in CPU(only stepping can be different, but intel site shows only E1). GPU is also the same(again, 'revision' or something may be different). doesn't seem that RAM is different either, it's 1600 DDR3L(only timings and power consumption can differ, but it's unlikely). SSD - cannot say anything from specs. Screen[manufacturer]? Googling shows nothing for me. And only visible difference(apart from model number) for me is price. As I'm considering purchase, I don't want to spend more money to get different number.

  • What is the difference  between apple care protection plan and apple care

    What is the difference between apple care protection plan and apple care +

    apple care protection plan
    That is the extended warranty (total of 3 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any Mac computer.
    apple care +
    That is the extended warranty (total of 2 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone, etc).
    For either, the standard warranty is usually referred to as hardware warranty (not Applecare); see an example for the warranty for an iMac:

    whereas the extended Applecare is referred to as that:

  • Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router)

    Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router?
    I'm using a tp link router and sometimes it takes a long time delay for my 2 mac computers to connect each other. I don't know this is because of the router compability or the computers.

    Anyone knows?

  • Delaying when switching between apple mail and safari

    just on mavericks.
    it more or less looks and feel ok but...
    when I switch between apple mail and safari, everything "freezes" for some seconds (up to 30).
    anyone similar experiences?
    what could be the cause of that?
    its really disturbing.

    I am a little puzzled by the libraries and switching between the libraries. My personal computer has the majority of the movies and content that would be transfered to the appletv. I chose to only select a minimal amount of content (of movies and tv shows, music via playlists) so there would be space left that would hold photos. Also, i just want to send over only what I want to view (manual synch) If I switch to my Kids library, it streams all the content well (movies & tv shows)(which is fine and streams well) If I switch back to my library, it shows every movie, every tv show, hundreds of music playlist that I did not choose to see. (stream mode) The only fix is to reboot the computer, and all is well. anyone experience this issue?

  • What's the difference in Apple Mail using "On My Mac" folders vs Export Mailbox?

    What's the difference in Apple Mail using "On My Mac" folders vs Export Mailbox?

    One (On My Mac) is a set of folders, the other is a way to export a mailbox for archiving or transfer to another machine.
    What do you want to do, these are not even similar.

  • HT1600 what's the difference between apple tv and apple tv2?

    What is the difference between apple tv and apple tv 2?
    How do I get videos on my Ipad to play on my Apple TV?  I tried Airplay and only vocal comes over.

    Thanks!  Yea, I'm leaning that way and from everything I've read the 'biggest' benefit would be Airplay - and the 5:1 surround in my gameroom (or the 7:1 surround in my screening room).  I don't stream movies - I'm more of a blu ray collector and watch movies that way - so in all probability I wouldn't use Apple TV in the screening room - but there are several other locations where it could be a nice addition.
    I do watch some TV shows on my iPAD, and lots of music videos - so perhaps, with Airplay they'll look/sound even better if I push that content to one of the other big screens.
    For the most part - whenever I wanted to watch something from my iPad on the big screen, I just connected it to my A/V receiver - pressed play, and enjoyed.  Apple TV would now become that device that's connected to my A/V receiver, and the iPad more of a remote - uncabled.
    Again - thanks for the reply; it's proven very helpful.
    Cheers.

  • What is the difference between Apple TV 2010 & 2011?

    Dear All,
    Is there any differences between Apple TV 2010 & 2011?

    ohh! you mean I should connect the optical audio to the receiver or the tv.
    if the receiver has optical input, i should connect the Apple TV optical audio to it, if no, i should connect it to the TV.
    Right?
    and this should be for each device connected with the receiver?
    So, If the receiver doesn't has optical audio input ports, the HDMI that connects the receiver with the TV set can transmit video only, right?
    Is that mean if we have Apple TV, DVD and Blue-Ray, we should have 3 HDMI input ports and 3 Optical Audio input ports????????
    The HDMI should transmit Audio Video, so the device should connect with only HDMI cable with the receiver.
    Sorry, I get confused. Why do we have Audio output (optical audio)?
    Is it only if we want to use Home Theater Speakers?

  • Difference between Apple products purchased around the world

    I travel/based all over the world and I have noticed the difference in prices when taking into account the exchange rate.
    Apple TV $99, £99, €102
    If I purchased the Apple TV in one country (for example US or Europe) will it work on an English, UK TV, when I eventually return home?
    Another question is whether products bought in one country can be used with other mac products purchased from another country.  Are they all compatible.
    Many Thanks

    The only difference between an Apple TV bought in one location and in another is the plug at the end of the power cord. Any Apple TV you purchase in any location will work in another.
    On the other matter, all hardware from any location is compatible with hardware from another. One thing you should remember however is that not all hardware has a universal aspect to it like the Apple TV, you should ensure that anything you purchase in one location will work on the voltage provided in another.
    The main difference between Apple products from different locations is related to services, for example in the case of the Apple TV whilst the hardware is exactly the same, there are services for example which you might find in the US that aren't available elsewhere, such as re-downloadable movies.

  • Difference between Apple 20" Cinema displays?

    Greetings,
    I would like to know what's the difference between Apple's 20" monitors Models A1081 and M9177LL/A (which s the model number currently used by Apple on their online Store). They seem to be somewhat identical, but eBay sellers do use either one of those model numbers to describe the units they sell.
    Thanks!
    - Roger T

    There were a lot of "sneak" part number changes to Apple products that may be connected with the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substance laws which required solders to change from leaded to lead-free (among other changes) in the middle of 2006. Around that time several Apple part number changes were noted with no changes to product specifications. So you might find two Apple products with different part numbers where the only difference is that one is RoHS compliant and the other is not.

  • Synchronisation problems between apple mail client on a MacBook Pro and Gmail

    I am having synchronisation problems between apple mail client and gmail on the MacBook Pro, but no similar problems on the ipad and iphone. My mail is not being collected by the aplle mail client on the laptop, and now all my inbox for my gmail account has disappeared, although the Archive and sub folders under "Google" are still showing.
    This is an intermittent problem.
    I have previousy re-built the mailbox and solved the problem, but there must be something more fundamental going on, as the problem has occurred again.
    Anyone have any tips?

    Sorry, but no. POP3 versus IMAP has nothing to do with keeping spam off your computer. Your ISP should be doing its filtering before the mail reached the mail server in either case, and your Mac would be doing its filtering after downloading the mail from the mail server in either case. (Your iPad does no filtering at all.)
