Difference between backup incremental level 0 Vs incremental level 1?
I am getting confuse. I have 2 commands:
-- Weekly full backup --
backup incremental level 0 database plus archivelog delete all input;
-- Daily backup --
backup incremental level 1 cumulative database plus archvielog delete all inputs;
What is the different if I put "level 1" in the weekly full backup and "level 0" in daily backup?

Its not much tricky read the doc

Posting of difference between PO and invoice by authorization level
Hi all,
I have a question on price difference between PO and invoice.
If i want to restrict postings of invoice by authorization like the following, is it possible to be done? If yes, how?
Clerks only allowed to post those invoice with no difference and rounding difference (small difference). Other invoice with difference (not caused by rounding) can be posted by a higher authorised person and not the clerk. Can this type of authorization be set?
Thanks.
Regards,Hello
First decide on the authorization roles for different users.
Then these roles can be set by the BASIS team.
Also tolerence groups for different users and amounts can also be set.

Difference between BACKUP RMAN commands
Hi Friends
Are there any difference between these 02 commands?
I mean, if I type "backup as compressed backupset database;" it will show me on v$rman_backup_job_details the input_type DB FULL.
If I type "backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 database;" it shows me DB INC.
My doubt is:
Proceeding with "backup as compressed backupset database" makes a level 0 backup to be used with "backup as compressed backupset incremental level 1 database;" ????
Or I must proceed with the command incremental level 0 to use it with future level1 operations?
I'm running 11.2.0.3.0 on Windows Server

A level 0 incremental backup, which is the base for subsequent incremental backups, copies all blocks containing data, backing the datafile up into a backup set just as a full backup would. The only difference between a level 0 incremental backup and a full backup is that a full backup is never included in an incremental strategy. -
Difference between backup and sync ?
What is the difference between a backup and doing a sync ?
backup is part of the sync procedure. If you uncheck the "Sync contacts to.." box under the phone info, special field names used in the contacts list won't get lost as they will if iTunes tries to stuff your contact fields into some address book on your host computer. Create a contact with a few phone numbers like "Main" and "Support" and "Shipping" as additional phone numbers. Do a SYNC, and check your address book on the host computer. You'll find that data is simply gone for these additional phone number fields.
Apparently if you don't SYNC to an address book, the sync/backup procedure saves the special fields in the backup directory. Maybe it even saves these fields if you backup using the SYNC approach, but this isn't the impression left by 2nd level tech support. Their solution is to get mobile me to keep your contacts list from getting corrupted or losing data. -
Difference between backup, sync and transfer?
I've read the iPad book and a few Apple tech notes on this but am still not 100% clear on the differences. It seems we can sync, backup and transfer our iPad data to our computers.
Frankly, I don't understand why there isn't just one process that "backs up" your iPad to your computer so there is a mirror copy of data in case you need to restore your iPad, existing or new one if lost.
Can some one summarize the difference between the 3 and a strategy to have ALL your iPad info on your computer? I use MobileMe BTW so my contacts and calendar are always synced using Push.
Thanks. StevenA backup only backs up up certain items. Other items are synced from your library and other places. See the following for what is in a backup:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
The transfer only transfers/copies iTunes purchases to a computer. It is useful when you buy items directly from the itunes store from your iPad. It is also very useful when your computer crashed and you do not have a backup. Thus, you can transfer music (which you can't redownload for free unlike app where your can).
Unless you cancel it, a backup is made every time you sync. Doing a backup alone is useful if you computer crashed and you do not have a backup. That way you can, along with doing other things like transferring purchases, get your iPad back to syncing with a "new" computer. -

Is there a difference between backup and sync?
I'm really confused....
Looking at iTunes (on my pc), I see all my apps there, with the amt of space they take up. However, when I look at my latest backup on my iPad, it lists the very same apps (I think!!) but shows "no data" on many of the apps that show up when I look at them on iTunes. What is going on here? I'm trying to back up my iPad to the iCloud and it doesn't back up all my apps. I have 4.7G of space available on my cloud. I've tried several times over the past couple of days. I've done a "soft reboot" on the ipad, turned it on and off, backed it up to my computer, etc and still, when I try to back up to the cloud, only some of my apps are showing. Is it something stupid like I don't have them checked somewhere? Because I've looked in iTunes (on my pc) and on my iPad and all the apps are checked. Thanks for your help. This is driving me nuts. :-/Yes, I have all my apps to sync with iCloud. And according to the backup file size calculator, it's only 300M or so, which is WRONG. I f I add up all the apps (set to "on") it should be well over 300M. It will not, however, exceed the 5G of free cloud space.
I also have an iPhone and use the cloud with it, too, but it has a different AppleID for iCloud. Both my iPad and iPhone use the same appleID for iTunes. I set it up this way to get 5G of could storage for each of my devices. And it looks like it worked (5G available in each iCloud account) except the iPad backup isn't complete, and as I have stated earlier, is nowhere near the 5G limit. -
Difference between backup and timemachine?
Why is it that Bckup can determine which indvidual files have changed in Aperture and timemachine cannot?
I think its totally stupid that if I add one 2 meg photo to time machine, 60 gigs. Yes thats right 60 gigs has to be written to my time machine harddrive.
Why can the ancient apple backup utility work this stuff out and the uber cool 22nd century time machine cannot.
Yes I am frustrated. The most important files to me are my photos. And yet its these files that I have to exclude if I don't want to bog down my network for hours at a time and use up a 500 gig harddrive in just over 3 weeks (based on one week of time machine backups with aperture included)Well, I can't really help you. You have all the relevant information.
FileVault presents new problems for TM because TM will not backup a FV protected account until after the user logs out. If your backup is on a network device then TM has to back up the sparseimage file each time it backs up (at least that appears to be what happens.)
Backing up to networked drives makes the whole backup process much slower, but I don't know if you have alternative solutions available to you.
Personally, I don't and won't use TM. I much prefer a third-party utility with much greater flexibility. My suggestions:
Backup Software Recommendations
My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
8. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
9. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility. -

Difference between Full backup and lncremental level 0 backup
Hi,
What is the difference between Full backup and lncremental level 0 backup?
what I understand is:
Actually incremental backup backups all the block containing data and skips the blocks that are unused.
Similarly full backup backups all the blocks containing data.(does it skip unused blocks ?????).
The only difference that I feel is that the level 0 backup is recorded as an incremental backup in the RMAN repository, so it can be used as the parent for a level 1 backup where Full database backup is not recorded in the Rman respository and cannot be used as parent for level 1 backup.
(if you still feel you have some more points to share regarding the difference between backups, I request to share with me)
so my question here is
Can we use Incremental level 0 backup for full database recovery. Else is there any compulsion like we must only use full database backup for full database recovery?
can anyone throw light on this
with regards;
Boonowhere in this thread we talked about the image copies as we are only talking about the incremental backup.
The word "always" has a meaning. If you now wish to say, "well, RMAN will mostly use a level 0 or full backup, except when there are image copies around" then the word "always" doesn't fit your newly-revised description. That would make it an inappropriate word to use. And indeed, it's a factually wrong word to use.
If you want to get really picky about it, incidentally, the words 'datafile copy' appear in a post from me at Aug 4, 2007 6:03 PM whereas your post (in which the "always" word was used) only appears Aug 4, 2007 8:32 PM -a full 2 and a half hours (and and two posts) AFTER the concept of image copies had been mentioned.
But regardless of times: you can't just pretend image copies don't exist just because they haven't been mentioned so far in a thread. If you post "this is the way something ALWAYS works", you'd better be completely right about it, because "ALWAYS" is a big word. And there's no grey about this: either "always" is right, or it's wrong. And in this case, it's wrong: there are many times when RMAN will not do what you baldly asserted it would do. Image copies aren't some rare, exotic beast, either... so the occasions when your 'rule' breaks down are many and common.
until now I was simply beliving in what Oracle docs and metalink notes says
Try not to do that. Because you will fall into error after error if you do. Metalink is not the Holy Gospel of Oracle. Testing is, and it's because I've been testing this stuff since 1999 I will, on this occasion, decline your kind invitation to do "a small test". Been there, done that.
All of which leaves us discussing things that are of no relevance to the original poster, and I have no desire to take the thread off into silly areas of dispute. So I will leave it there, and I have nothing further to say on the matter. RMAN does what it does, and what it does is not what you said it would do. End of story. -
Difference between Header and Item level distribution of GOA
Hi,
Can anyone tell me the difference between distribution of GOA at header level and item level?
can we create multiple operational contracts in ECC when we distribute one GOA?

Which ECC Version are you using ?
The transaction for creating a GOA in SAP Frontend is BBP_CTR_MAINCC. The Transaction BBP_CTR_MAINCC cannot be called in the Easy Access. Go with /N then call the transaction.

Difference between AuditLevel and completion persist policy
Hi All,
Anbody know the difference between setting the completionPersistPolicy at BPEL level and setting
component level
<component name="BPELProcess" version="1.1">
<implementation.bpel src="BPELProcess.bpel"/>
<property name="bpel.config.completionPersistPolicy">Off</property>
<property name="bpel.config.inMemoryOptimization">true</property>
</component>
Composite Level
<property name="auditLevel" many="false">off</property>
They both are disabling the the dehyderation. Can I say setting auditLevel to off is enough?
ThanksTurning the composite level audit off will persist no record of the composite instance, not just the BPEL process. When looking in Enterprise Manager you will not see completed instances at all. If you just set the completionPersistPolicy to off on a single BPEL then you will still have a record of the composite instance and see any other components such as mediators in the composite flow, but will just not have a record of the BPEL instance.

I'm a bit confused after some tests.
The Question: It's mandatory to perform backup incremental level 0 before the level 1 using Oracle 10gR2 ?
On Oracle 11.2 it's mandatory but on Oracle 10.2.0.5 I don't know.

Incremental backups capture only those blocks that change between backups in each datafile.
In a typical incremental backup strategy, a level 0 incremental backup is used as a starting point. A level 0 backup captures all blocks in the datafile.

Levi PereiraHi Gokhan,
Thank you for point this.
After spending a time studying about this I find out this:
Your expanation apply only in Oracle 10gR1/R2.
Because there is differences between RMAN Version 10gR1/R2 and 11gR1/R2 about Incremental Level 1 and this confuse me.
Oracle 10gR1/R2 run only one backup incremental level 1 even if level 0 not exists .
Oracle 11gR1/R2 run two backups incremental if level 0 not exists. i.e level 0 first and after that level 1.
Oracle 10gR2
If no level 0 backup is available, then the behavior depends upon the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks changed since the file was created, and stores the results as a level 1 backup. In other words, the SCN at the time the incremental backup is taken is the file creation SCN.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm
Thats means wich RMAN run level 0 with name level 1. (i.e: Only one Backup) This is confuse.
Oracle 11gR1
If no level 0 backup is available in either the current or parent incarnation, then the behavior varies with the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks that have been changed since the file was created. Otherwise, RMAN behaves as it did in previous releases, by generating a level 0 backup.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV89500
Oracle 11gR2
If no level 0 backup is available in either the current or parent incarnation, then the behavior varies with the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks that have been changed since the file was created. Otherwise, RMAN generates a level 0 backup.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV89500
Thats means wich RMAN run (automatically) level 0 first after finish level 0 backup RMAN run level 1 backup (i.e Two Backups). This seems right.

Is a Level 0 Incremental the same as Backup Database?
hi experts,
This is a 10g database running in archivelog mode.
This is the backup scheme I'm currently using:
backup database plus archivelog; (runs once per day)
backup incremental level 1 database; this runs every 3 hours
(All the incrementals I make are level 1.)
In another forum, I was advised to make a level 0 incremental backup, because you cannot restore a level 1 if there was no level 0 made earlier. Now, I'm looking for the RMAN expert's advice :-)
** If I do this will I have what I need to be able to restore: **
- backup incremental level 0 database; (this will run once per day)
- backup incremental level 1 database; (this will run every 3 hours
In other words, will I miss anything if I dont do a backup database ?
Thanks, JohnIf you taking level 1 backup and If you dont have any level 0 then RMAN take hole database backup (level 0) with level 1 command.
It is always advisible to take level 0 and follow the level 1.
I advise to see the below doc which covers all your doubts and best way to backup.
Hope this solves your issue.
