Difference between integration architect and integration technologist

Hello,
I am in reference to p7 of the specification. Can anyone give me practical examples of tasks performed by an integration architect and an integration technologist please?
Thanks in advance,
Julien Martin.

An integration architect plays a role much like other types of software architects: specifying the overall structure of the system, and how the parts inter-relate. He has knowledge of both the enterprise's needs (from a business perspective), and a strong technical background in integration technologies.
The integration technologist implements the architect's plan. He has in-depth knowledge of particular integration technologies.
These roles are logically separate, and in large organisations they are indeed performed by different individuals. In smaller organisations these roles are simply one of many "hats" worn by the local integration guru.

What is the difference between unit testing and integration testing in SAP? Is unit testing takes place in Dev client and integration testing takes place in QA system?
    Please clarify
    thanks

    Hello Krishen,
unit testing means veryfiingsmall / the smallet pieces of software, while integration testing checks the overall functionality of applications. Within the AS ABAP the tool ECATT + manual tests is used for integration tests and the ABAP Unit language integration for unit testing.
When, Who, Where tests are carried out is ultimately a personal decision. As unit tests are operate even under heavy development they are often the first choice for developers, but the unit tests can also serve for regression tests over a long period. Integration tests tend too be created and executed in later stages as they require often a certain majurity of the software under test.
Beside the mentioned links you may check out ABAP Unit infos also in the Wiki.

  • Difference between Monitoring Process and Integration Process

What is the difference between the Monitoring Process object for BAM and Integration Process object? Both seem to have exactly the same design environment in the Enterprise Services Builder.
Is it so that Monitoring Process alarms only appear in the UWL of the specified user?
Also, suppose I am wanting to create a receive step to wait for the arrival of a message instead of an event (say I want to check a specific message arrives before a certain time, correlating several fields of the message, which is something I cannot do I believe with alert monitoring). Am I able to do this? I cannot see a reason why not, but I'd like confirmation.
    BR,
    Tony.

    Hi,
Thanks for the link! I read through the replies, but it still leaves a couple of basic questions unsolved:
    1) Why did SAP discriminate these two types of PI objects at design time - the Monitoring Process and the Integration Process?
    2) new capabilities of PI 7.1 are touted as:
Event provisioning and consumption for BAM:
    - Local container
    - Subscription and handling of business process events
    - Milestone Monitoring
So can I only employ event provisioning, subscription of Business process Events and Milestome monioring with  a Monitoring process, or can I do that with an Integration Process as well?

  • Difference between BPS, MAP and Integrated Planning

    HI Experts,
We have a plan to implement the BPS (Business Planningand Simulation) and MAP (Merchandise and Assortment Planning) in retail.
In our BI 7.0 can i use Business Planning (Integrated Planning) or i need to go for BPS and MAP individually.
    Pls suggest me.
    Best Regards,
    Rams.

You also have BPS in Bi 7.  Points to consider:
    1. Future development and new functionalities will be deliverred on IP framework, though you can use old BPS in BI7.
    2. IP does not some of the features that BPS has, but hoping that SAP will deliver them down the road.

  • Difference between Integration Engine and Integration server.

can any 1 explained in detail about difference between Integration Engine and Integration server.
    thanks in advance

Integration Server and Integration Engine are used synonymous with each other. But there is a sublte difference if you actually look into the XI architecture images provded by SAP.
    The Integration Server contains,
    1. Adapter Engine
    2. Business Process Engine
    3. Integration Engine.
So, taking this into picture I guess Integartion server is a collection of these 3 while integration engine is one of the runtime components of XI. All messages are processed in the Integration Engine.

  • What is the difference between VI Template and vi that is reenterant?

What is the difference between VI Template and vi that is reenterant?
From what little info I can find about them, they seem to basically do the same thing....
    What are the difference?
What are the pros and cons of each?
    Thanks alot for the help.....

    Thanks,
OK, here's what happens when you call a VI Template using Call by Reference or using Invoke and Property Nodes.
Since the VI you are calling is a template, LabVIEW creates a new instance of that VI by creating a copy of it and giving a new name. Notice in the title bar of the instantiated VI the VI name is the same as the template VI plus a number. This is the same thing you see when you open a template from the "New..." menu. So if you call the template VI 3 times, you'd end up with 5 newly instantiated VIs named, "VI Name 1.vi", "VI Name 2.vi" and "VI Name 3.vi". This is how you end up with multiple instances.
Reentrancy only works on subVIs when they are used as a normal subVI in a top level application. Using Call by Reference or Invoke and Property Nodes to open and run a reentrant VI results in the VI only being opened once because LabVIEW will not automatically give it a new name. The new name is only generated when calling templates. Since LabVIEW can only a have a single instance of VI name in memory at a time, you'll not end up with multiple instances.
Not sure if I can help with the know issue on OSX. If it's specific to using the Call by Reference function, you could try calling the templates using Invoke and Property nodes.

  • What is difference between SAP R3 And SAP IS Mills Product

    HI Friends
What is difference between SAP R3 And SAP IS Mills Product
What are the futures are availables in IS MIlls
    Regards

    Hi,
SAP R/3 is the central enterprise version. It is not specifically designed for any inducstry sectors and it can cater many of the industry types.
Is is developed for specific industries an for SMB's (small and medium business). It will have components specifically for the industry.
The SAP Mill Products component adds sector-specific functionality to an ERP system to satisfy the complex requirements of mill industries (e.g. metal, wood, paper, textiles, construction materials, and cable sectors).
These industry segments differ from others primarily in that the materials used have a large number of characteristics and variants. The materials in the segments listed above are also predominantly area-based (e.g. paper, textiles, plastic film) or length-based (e.g. cables, piping). Account must be taken of these material characteristics throughout the entire supply chain.
To cater for the particularities of these industry segments, SAP Mill Products features processes and functions that cover the entire supply-chain cycle – from product design and configuration, through planning, order processing, capacity planning and production, to final delivery. Additional functions are available in costing and inventory management. SAP Mill Products are also integrated into Quality Management, Financial Accounting, and Controlling.

  • Difference between inbound delivery and Goods Receipt

Can any one explain difference between inbound delivery and goods Receipt??

    Hi dear,
Inbound delivery is one confirmation used to indicate the expected goods receipts in advance, so that the related process partners like warehouse personnel , planning personnel can utilise this data for initiation of actions and planning. Also , we can make this confirmation relevant to Planning in the customisation, to enhance the performance.
In general , we need confirmations only as a kind of assurance/information , in absence of the goods.
But if the goods are received physically , obviously we do not need any confirmations , we would perform the goods receipt .
When working with Inbound delivery , the goods receipt is done with respect to specific inbound delivery( though not compulsary to do so) , so that the integration done in the system works to the advantage of the users.

  • Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1

I am little confused and curious to know the recent changes happening in SAP.
Can you please tell me the differences between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
NetWeaver 2004 is named because SAP has released it in 2004
and then we have XI 3.0, XI.7.0(that is PI right) , EP6.0 etc as individual components have different versions released in NewtWeaver suite.
But what is this NetWeaver 7.0.
We have EE5 or ECC6 and WebAs 6.4 or GUI 6.4 or recently GUI 7.o or WebAs 7.0.
How does all these differe, is individual component of NetWeaver upgraded with higher versions or total NetWever is upgraded with a higher version.
Can any one please tell me the exact difference between versions.
If some one has ECC6 installed in their environment does it mean that they have Netwaver components like XI, EP, MDM.. etc are installed or its only R/3, BI etc...
    How it works exactly?

  • Difference between Drilldown report and Interactive report

There is no difference between drill down and interactive report, they are the same.
With drilldown reporting, SAP provides you with an interactive information system to let you evaluate the data collected in your application. This information system is capable of analyzing all the data according to any of the characteristics that describe the data. You can also use any key figures you wish to categorize your data. You can display a number of objects for a given key figure, or a number of key figures for a given object. In addition, the system lets you carry out any number of variance analyses (such as plan/actual comparisons, fiscal year comparisons, comparisons of different objects, and so on).
You can produce both simple, data-directed lists (basic reports) and complex, formatted lists in drilldown reporting (form reports).
Drilldown report provides you with comfortable functions for navigating through your data. For example, you can jump to the next level of detail or the next report object on the same level, hide individual levels and switch between the detail and drilldown lists. It also provides a number of additional functions which let you process lists interactively (sorting, conditions, ranking lists, and so on). SAP Graphics, SAPmail and the Excel List Viewer are also integrated into drilldown reporting.
The drilldown functions are divided into three groups which differ in the number of functions available. That way each user can choose the functional level most suited for his requirements.
In addition to the online functions for displaying reports, drilldown reporting also provides functions which let you print reports. A number of formatting functions are available to let you determine the look of your printed reports (page breaks, headers and footers, underscores, and so on).
The menus and the functions available directly on the drilldown report make it easy to use the information system.
    What is an Interactive Report?
An interactive report generally works in the following fashion:
    1. Basic list is displayed.
    2. User double clicks on any valid line
        or
User selects a line and presses as button on the tool bar.
    3. The corresponding event is triggered
    4. Then in the code, the line on which action was done, is read.
    5. Depending on the values in that selected line, a secondary list is displayed.
    6. Steps from 2-5 are repeated till the end.
From the above explanation, I believe, its clear that, the 20th list, will essentially depend on the "selected line" of 19th list. According to your question, you want to move to 20th list directly, without "a prior list". May I know the exact requirement so that, an appropriate solution can be suggested?
Again, your question was, how to move to 20th list directly on pressing of execute button. Its not possible to move to 20th list. You must cross over a basic list, before you can go to a different list level, using the code given by Pavan.
    What are Drilldown reports?
The lines of basic list of a drilldown report when clicked, will take the user to the corresponding (standard) object's display.
For eg: Suppose your report's primary component is purchase requisition, (assume you are printing PR details), and the basic list displays details of many PRs.
Eg: when clicked on a particular line of the PR basic list, it takes you to std t-code me53 (display of purchase requisition). This is the 'Drill-down' functionality.
For this, in the at-line selection of your program, as per the above ex: you'll set the parameter ID of PR number BAN (that you can get from Data element) in memory (using set parameter id) and then calling the corresponding transaction (usually skipping initial screen of the std t-code).
Likewise, if it's Material Number (Matnr), you'll be displaying MM03 transaction w.r.t. the line's matnr.

  • Difference between datatype NUMBER and NUMBER(38)

Difference between datatype NUMBER and NUMBER(38)

    From
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/sql_elements001.htm#i54330
    NUMBER Datatype
The NUMBER datatype stores zero as well as positive and negative fixed numbers with absolute values from 1.0 x 10-130 to (but not including) 1.0 x 10126. If you specify an arithmetic expression whose value has an absolute value greater than or equal to 1.0 x 10126, then Oracle returns an error. Each NUMBER value requires from 1 to 22 bytes.
Specify a fixed-point number using the following form:
    NUMBER(p,s)
    where:
p is the precision, or the total number of significant decimal digits, where the most significant digit is the left-most nonzero digit, and the least significant digit is the right-most known digit. Oracle guarantees the portability of numbers with precision of up to 20 base-100 digits, which is equivalent to 39 or 40 decimal digits depending on the position of the decimal point.
s is the scale, or the number of digits from the decimal point to the least significant digit. The scale can range from -84 to 127.
Positive scale is the number of significant digits to the right of the decimal point to and including the least significant digit.
Negative scale is the number of significant digits to the left of the decimal point, to but not including the least significant digit. For negative scale the least significant digit is on the left side of the decimal point, because the actual data is rounded to the specified number of places to the left of the decimal point. For example, a specification of (10,-2) means to round to hundreds.
Scale can be greater than precision, most commonly when e notation is used. When scale is greater than precision, the precision specifies the maximum number of significant digits to the right of the decimal point. For example, a column defined as NUMBER(4,5) requires a zero for the first digit after the decimal point and rounds all values past the fifth digit after the decimal point.
It is good practice to specify the scale and precision of a fixed-point number column for extra integrity checking on input. Specifying scale and precision does not force all values to a fixed length. If a value exceeds the precision, then Oracle returns an error. If a value exceeds the scale, then Oracle rounds it.
Specify an integer using the following form:
    NUMBER(p)
This represents a fixed-point number with precision p and scale 0 and is equivalent to NUMBER(p,0).
Specify a floating-point number using the following form:
    NUMBER
The absence of precision and scale designators specifies the maximum range and precision for an Oracle number.
    And
    2
    NUMBER[(precision [, scale]])
Number having precision p and scale s. The precision p can range from 1 to 38. The scale s can range from -84 to 127

  • Differences between bapi's and bdc

    Hi Frendz,
What are the most imp differences between BAPI's and BDC ?
    Points for sure...
    Thanks in advance
    Vijaya

    Hi Vijaya,
    A few inputs from net
BAPI is used only when it is available for the particular  transaction like Delivery Sales order. but BDC can be used for any
transaction which have screen and fields.
BAPI is directly updated the database instead BDC run through the screen flow.
So BAPI can't handle all the flow logic checking and enhancement put by programmer to faciliate the user requirement.
BAPI is a higher end usage for tranfering the data from SAP to non-SAP and vice-versa. for ex: if we are using VB application, where in that we want to connect to SAP and retireve the data, and then change and update the data in SAP for that purpose we can use that.
Apart from that, we can also use it for Uploading/Downloading the data from SAP to Non-SAP like BDC, provided we have an existing  BAPI for that.
BAPI function modules will also do all the checks required for data integrity like Transactions for BDC.
There is one more advantage using BAPI instead of BDC.
When we go for upgradation, there might be pozzibility to change the screen elements for transactions depending on the requirement. In that case, our BDC pgm may or may not work (depending on the screen changes they have made). Unless and until we prepare new BDC we cant use the old BDC pgm. But in BAPI, SAP promises that they are going to keep the old BAPI and for new functionality they will provide an upgraded BAPI. Until we write a new BAPI pgm, we can use the exisitng BAPI pgm.

this somehow summarzes what i wanted to convey and hence have put this extract.. hope it helps to your question.

  • Differences between B2B IPCUI and CU50 IPCUI?

    Dear all.
We have SAP ERP 6.0 installed with integrated IPC in VMC running. On another box we have NW 7 with E-Commerce 5.0 and TREX 7.0 and MS ISS 7.5 running.
    We have two scenarios:
    Scenario 1: http://host:port/b2b/b2b/init.do
After a logon a shop list appears. After going into a shop, navigating through the catalog and choosing a configurable product, the IPC UI gets displayed.
Scenario 2: SAP Gui transaction CU50
After choosing the same configurable material as in scenario 1 and running it through the IPC, the IPC UI gets displayed.
The IPC UI via CU50 shows correctly status ligths as configured through XCM parameter appearance.showstatuslights=T.
But the IPC UI in the B2B does not show the status lights, but the texts.
My assumption is that both scenarios are using the same IPC UI.
Or is there maybe a difference?
What I also do not understand is:
Why do I have XCM configuration for IPC two times?
One "Internet pricing and configurator" in ../ipc/admin/xcm and another "IPC" in ../b2b/admin/xcm
Maybe this is a silly question, but I haven´t found any solution nor answers to these issues and questions after long investigations.
    Thanks and regards
    Stefan

Your Scenario 1: uses IPC-SCE (Configuration Engine) for runtime configuration of a configurable product. This uses the IPC as the runtime engine for configuring the product. The IPC UI (along with appropriate Java application) helps you render the design and get your input.
Your Scenario 2: SAP Gui transaction CU50  uses the classical Variant Configuration LO-VC module of the SAP R/3 (ECC 6.0) system. The SAPGUI Variant configuration screens don't use IPC at any instance.
The IPC UI via CU50 shows correctly status ligths as configured through XCM parameter appearance.showstatuslights=T. But the IPC UI in the B2B does not show the status lights, but the texts.
It is very likely that you are seeing the default behavior of CU50 set elsewhere. Try changing the XCM setting and see if CU50 display property changes.
My assumption is that both scenarios are using the same IPC UI.
    Not correct.
See more detailed functional differences between IPC-SCE and LO-VC at this link Comparison of SCE and R/3 Variant Configuration.
Why do I have XCM configuration for IPC two times?
One "Internet pricing and configurator" in ../ipc/admin/xcm and another "IPC" in ../b2b/admin/xcm
Technically they are  two different applications for use in different contexts. ../ipc/ for both design time and runtime of product configuration. This is what actually controls the IPC UI appearance in the web. The ipc component in the ../b2b/ application is for picking up the right configuration type that is defined in XCM of the _ipc application _.
Maybe this is a silly question, but I haven´t found any solution nor answers to these issues and questions after long investigations.
Probably, this was "intuitive" by SAP standards, so they don't have any documentation for developers who don't work in SAP.....
    (1) Define a custom configurations for application configuration  isab2b and isacatalog in ipc/XCM.
    (2) After making changes to ipc application (XCM) for UI settings, you have to restart the ipc application.
    (3) Define custom component for application component ipcdefaul in b2b/XCM
    (4) In the place of isab2b and isacatalog, input the names of the custom configurations you defined in ipc/XCM
    (5) Restart the b2b application.
    Hope this helps...
