Difference between logic $499 and academic $149

I am currently a UC student and was wondering what is the difference between logic studio $499 and the academic version $149?
I am planning to get Logic as my main workstation but trying to figure out do i buy the academic version using the advantage of being a student or to buy the $499 one.
is there a difference?
Thank You

And at 149$, it's a lower price tag than the typical upgrade price for a major Logic revision. So, if you just began your academic years, chances are that you'll still be eligible for the student discount when LP10/LS3 arrives and it will cost you 149$ instead of 199$ to get the new version(if there's no change in Apple pricing at that time). So, buy the academic one, you'll save.

  • What is the difference between logical ROWID and physical ROWID

    hello
can u please explain the difference between logical ROWID and physical ROWID
    regards,

from the docs (a 30 sec search)
Physical rowids store the addresses of rows in ordinary tables (excluding index-organized tables), clustered tables, table partitions and subpartitions, indexes, and index partitions and subpartitions.
Logical rowids store the addresses of rows in index-organized tables.

  • Is there a difference between Logic Pro and Logic Pro X?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is there a difference between Logic Pro and Logic Pro X?
    Already thx!

    Hi
    Short answer: No
    Longer answer:
Logic Pro X is the latest release version of the DAw known as "Logic Pro". Previous versions were: Logic Pro 9, Logic Pro 8 etc.
There was also a "Logic Express" (no longer available) which, though similar to Logic Pro, was missing a few features of Logic Pro in it's later versions)
    This might add more details:

  • Difference Between Logical Screen and Active/Physical Screen

    Hi All,
Could someone tell me what is the Diffrence Between Logical Screen and Active/Physical Screen and what is the reason for having two screens instead of one.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Joseph Reddy.

    Hi Marilyn,
Thanks You. I have found the answer to this.
    All,
If you go to the SPRO>Logistics Execution>Mobile Data Entry-->Define Screen Management. Here you have two screens one is Logical Screen and another actual Screen and a program associated to this.
Here the Logical Screens are used within the program and Actual screens are the screens which are visible to the User. The Link between Logical and actual screen is present in the table T3130C. Program recognises logical screens.
Now suppose say certain functionality/create new transaction code for RF Device is not there in SAP and you want to Include/Create your own code in any of the User-Exits. Then you have to rename the actual screen to 9***. So that the system recognises the change in the screen and related User-Exit is executed.
    Hope this is Clear.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Joseph Reddy.

  • Difference between full version and academic version

So I just received my first FCE4 software but it has a sticker saying "Academic: Not eligible for upgrades"
I was wondering why the academic version was a little cheaper... I just wanted to know before I actually open this package, what kind of benefits would I be missing (other than not being able to upgrade to FCE5 I guess...) if I just decide to keep this academic version? Do you recommend just keeping this version or get a regular full version?

There are only 2 differences between the retail & academic versions, and they both pertain to the license, not the functionality of the software:
1 - the price of the academic version is lower than the retail version
2 - when you license (purchase) the academic version, you are not eligible to upgrade it in the future by purchasing an upgrade. (So, if you have FCE4 Academic Version, and someday FCE5 comes out, at that time you would have to purchase a full FCE5 Retail or FCE5 Academic in order to upgrade; you would not be eligible to purchase a reduced-price FCE5 Upgrade version.)

  • Difference between Logic Pro and Logic Express?

A buddy wants me to show him how to use Logic Express. I'm fairly up on Logic Pro, have used it for years. I'm wondering if I can get a trial version of Express to try out for an hour before embarrassing myself in front of him?
Or if there is a huge amount of difference in the basic setup?

There is very little difference, mostly in content (Jampacks, Waveburner, Mainstage..and a few of the high end plugins). Other than that they're functionally identical. same audio engine, you wouldn't know the difference just by looking at them.

  • Difference between Logic Express and Pro? ro

Is the actual logic part the exact same? Is it that with the Pro you get all the extras? (soundtrack pro, qmaster, logic node, compressor, main stage, wave burner, jam packs). Is that what makes it the "pro" version? Or does the actual Logic app offer more abilities? If so, I can't seem to see much a difference. thanks

The app itself is indeed the same, but the included content and plug-ins are different.

  • What is the difference between Logical Disk and Physical Disk?

    Hi.
When I do Performance Monitor, I got Logical Disk Avg. Disk sec/Write counter and  Physical Disk Avg. Disk sec/Write counter.
But I can see the different Avg. value and Max. value.
Even if Logical and Physical Disk are one-to-one mapping.
Why did i get the result?
One the other hands, I got a same result that Logical Disk Avg. Disk sec/Read counter and  Physical Disk Avg. Disk sec/Read counter's Avg. value and Max. value.

Physical Disk refers to an actual physical HDD (or array in a hardware RAID setup), whereas Logical Disk refers to a Volume that has been created on that disk.
So if you have one disk with one volume created on it then the values are likely to be 1 to 1, but if you have multiple volumes on the disk, for instance a physical disk with C:\ and D:\ volumes running on it, then the logical disks relate to c:\ and d:\
rather than the disk they're running on.

  • Difference between regular Dreamweaver and Academic version

I want to purchase Dreamweaver v 8 to help build our site,

Nothing. Aside from the fact you would need to provide some
    proof that you
are in fact a student, and will not use the software for
    commercial
purposes. Other than that, it is the same as the big boys

  • What is the difference between logic studio academic version and the normal version ?

what is the difference between logic studio academic version from the other versions ?

No difference... the Academic version cannot be upgraded to the next major revision.
If you had putchased the Logic 9 academic version you get all the updates 9.0, 9.03, 9.1, 9.3...etc
When Logic 10 rolls around you would have to purchase the application at full price, your version isn't elgible for the upgrade price.
Same software as the retail version though.

  • Difference between logical and virtual terms

    Hello,
This is not purely oracle question; but in documentation so many times we find 2 terms:
    A. Logical
    B.Virtual.
So what is the principle difference between logical and virtual? As I know physical is that which I can see and touch; while logical/virtual is that is imaginary. We say tablespace is logical not virtual; while Java Virtual Machine; not Java Logical Machine. So I want to know; what is the principle difference; why two words for an imaginary thing. Before posting question; I searched in google as “Difference between virtual and logical” but I couldn’t found the answer.
    Please quote your comments.
    Thanks & Kind Regards
    Girish Sharma

    Girish,
I wont say that I am correcting you as this is like that half glass full/empty thing.May be what I see is half empty , you would see the same as half full.
Well now coming to the explanation.I am saying honestly , I got more confused after reading your definitions. What do you mean by saing that tablespace is not virtual.I see it as purely virtual. We don't say it as virtual tablespace or logical tablespace but it is actualy logical/virtual, having no existance but just the definition right?
How can you say that the size of virtual is larger than logcial? The size of tablespace is actualy the sum total of size of datafiles. So it actualy becomes very larger right?Much larger than JVM which is of few megs only.
The point 3 totally knocked me out.I have no idea what you said.
Ok I tell you this.Just remember the definition that Hans gave already. If you ask me than its the best definition that we can have. Just remember this and if some one asks you more further than give them your point 3 definition and tell them understand this ;-).Please don'tmind I am just kidding. Its just semantics.Don't get lost into it.You will find many people using both the terms interchangibly. So its ok.I shall stick with Hans's defintion, simple and concise. There are lot more other topics to dig upon in oracle.I can mail you lots of them.Spend time on those.Don't think that I am demotivating you.I understand you asked only because you have a doubt. But we got a good resolution of it and beyond that, its not of much use to dig it atleast not in the technial terms.
    Cheers
    Aman....

  • Difference between physical join and logical join

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between physical join and logical join
    Thanks,
    Chandra

    Hi,
A physical join is at the physical layer and defines the join between two physical tables. Logical joins live at the BMM (logical) layer and define a join between two logical tables.
The important differentiation is that at the BMM layer you do not tell the OBIEE server how to do the join, you just tell it that there is a relationship between these two logical entities. When the server comes to this logical join it will use the information in the physical joins and decides how the two logical tables are joined together.
In BMM you use complex joins to establish which logical tables are joined which another, the OBI EE server will go to the physical level to search the physical join to make the query. You can also use physical joins in the BMM to override the join in the physical layer but only in very specific conditions.
If you also set complex join in the physical layer OBI EE won't be able to construct the physical query.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Award points if helpful.
    Thanks,
    -Amith.

  • Difference between logic pro 7 and 8

I'm just wondering if there's a difference between the Logic Studio ($500), and Logic Pro 8..or does Logic Pro 8 simply come within the Logic Studio package? Is there a big difference between Logic Pro 7 and 8? Also, is it worth the $200 upgrade?

    Hi,
Logic Studio: Logic Pro 8, Soundtrack Pro and MainStage.
So yes, Logic Pro 8 is part of the 'Logic Studio' package, which also contains the two other apps.
    http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/
Take a look at the Logic Pro 8/Logic Studio forum. There are mixed opinions on whether it is worth upgrading yet or not.
    Good Luck!

  • What's the difference between Logic Studio 8 & 9?

is it me or is the ONLY difference between Logic Studio 8 & 9 the fact the LS9 can run in 64-bit mode?
I've owned Logic Studio 8 since about a year after it came out. About a year ago I got a Pro that's got Snow Leopard on it, so I installed LS8 on it. My Pro is running in 64-bit mode, but LS8 only runs in 32-bit mode, so I thought I'd "Upgrade" & buy Logic Studio 9 a couple of days ago. I just installed it yesterday & ran it for the first time today. I don't see ANY differce at all between 8 & 9 EXCEPT that Logic Pro & Main Stage both have a 64-bit mode. ALL of the synths & their presets are the same. All of the loops & jam packs look the same. Did I just pay all that $$$ just to get a 64-bit version of what I already had?
I've tried looking on this site & everything I find is about Logic Pro X. Is there anyone out there that knows enough about this to tell me for sure what the real differences are between Logic Studio 8 & 9?

Check Wikipedia - of course there are more differences:
    Logic Pro 9
On July 23, 2009, Logic Pro 9 was announced. A major new feature included "Flex Time", Apple's take on "elastic" audio, which allows audio to be quantized.[5] A version of the pedalboard from GarageBand was included, together with a new virtual guitar amplifier where the modeled components could be combined in different ways. There were also a number of improvements to audio editing, fulfilled user requests such as "bounce in place" and selective track and channel strip import, as well as an expanded content library including one more Jam Pack. Some of the bundled software, including MainStage 2 and Soundtrack Pro 3, was also improved. Logic Pro 9 is Universal Binary, although not officially supported for use on PowerPC computers.[6] SoundDiver, which had been quietly bundled with previous versions, was dropped, eliminating support for arguably the world's most popular synthesizer editor/librarian. As Apple has bundled so many software instruments with Logic, it is not likely that we'll see the return of integration with external synthesizer hardware to the Logic platform.[citation needed]
On January 12, 2010, Apple released Logic Pro 9.1, an Intel only release, thereby officially discontinuing Logic for the PowerPC platform. Logic Pro 9.1 has the option of running in 64 bit mode, which allows the application to address more memory than in the past. Says Apple "With 64-bit mode, the application memory is not limited to 4GB as with 32-bit applications, so there is essentially no practical limit by today's standards.". Third party plug-ins that are 32 bit are still compatible, but will run from a 'wrapper' inside Logic Pro itself.
On December 9, 2011, Apple announced that Logic Pro Studio 9 would no longer be available on DVD, and would only be sold via the Mac App Store. The price was reduced from $499 to $199.99 for the Logic Pro app, and $29.99 for MainStage. The download was just over 400mb, and 19gb of optional loops were available as in-app downloads.[7]
