Hi,
Logic Studio: Logic Pro 8, Soundtrack Pro and MainStage.
So yes, Logic Pro 8 is part of the 'Logic Studio' package, which also contains the two other apps.

Take a look at the Logic Pro 8/Logic Studio forum. There are mixed opinions on whether it is worth upgrading yet or not.
Good Luck!

  • Difference between Logic Express 8 and Logic Pro 9

I am wondering if there is a big difference in these 2 versions.  I mostly do vocals, where I bring in a karaoke track, and then sing multiple tracks to it, so I'm wondering if it pays to step up to Logic Pro 9.

    Hi
Many of the new features in Logic Pro 9 are discussed on Apple's product pages http://www.apple.com/logicpro/
The fundamental differences between the Express and Pro versions are discussed here:

  • What's the difference between Logic Studio 8 & 9?

is it me or is the ONLY difference between Logic Studio 8 & 9 the fact the LS9 can run in 64-bit mode?
I've owned Logic Studio 8 since about a year after it came out. About a year ago I got a Pro that's got Snow Leopard on it, so I installed LS8 on it. My Pro is running in 64-bit mode, but LS8 only runs in 32-bit mode, so I thought I'd "Upgrade" & buy Logic Studio 9 a couple of days ago. I just installed it yesterday & ran it for the first time today. I don't see ANY differce at all between 8 & 9 EXCEPT that Logic Pro & Main Stage both have a 64-bit mode. ALL of the synths & their presets are the same. All of the loops & jam packs look the same. Did I just pay all that $$$ just to get a 64-bit version of what I already had?
I've tried looking on this site & everything I find is about Logic Pro X. Is there anyone out there that knows enough about this to tell me for sure what the real differences are between Logic Studio 8 & 9?

Check Wikipedia - of course there are more differences:
    Logic Pro 9
On July 23, 2009, Logic Pro 9 was announced. A major new feature included "Flex Time", Apple's take on "elastic" audio, which allows audio to be quantized.[5] A version of the pedalboard from GarageBand was included, together with a new virtual guitar amplifier where the modeled components could be combined in different ways. There were also a number of improvements to audio editing, fulfilled user requests such as "bounce in place" and selective track and channel strip import, as well as an expanded content library including one more Jam Pack. Some of the bundled software, including MainStage 2 and Soundtrack Pro 3, was also improved. Logic Pro 9 is Universal Binary, although not officially supported for use on PowerPC computers.[6] SoundDiver, which had been quietly bundled with previous versions, was dropped, eliminating support for arguably the world's most popular synthesizer editor/librarian. As Apple has bundled so many software instruments with Logic, it is not likely that we'll see the return of integration with external synthesizer hardware to the Logic platform.[citation needed]
On January 12, 2010, Apple released Logic Pro 9.1, an Intel only release, thereby officially discontinuing Logic for the PowerPC platform. Logic Pro 9.1 has the option of running in 64 bit mode, which allows the application to address more memory than in the past. Says Apple "With 64-bit mode, the application memory is not limited to 4GB as with 32-bit applications, so there is essentially no practical limit by today's standards.". Third party plug-ins that are 32 bit are still compatible, but will run from a 'wrapper' inside Logic Pro itself.
On December 9, 2011, Apple announced that Logic Pro Studio 9 would no longer be available on DVD, and would only be sold via the Mac App Store. The price was reduced from $499 to $199.99 for the Logic Pro app, and $29.99 for MainStage. The download was just over 400mb, and 19gb of optional loops were available as in-app downloads.[7]

  • Difference between Logic Pro 9 and Logic Studio?

I have garage band and I notice that the instruments available are extremely limited, so I am looking to upgrade solely for the idea of getting more instruments and more features. Does the app store Logic Pro 9 have the extensive amount of official instruments to download for free? Or are there additional costs if you are looking to purchase the instruments for the app store logic 9?
I know that the studio version has mainstage, compressor and other programs etc, but what I am looking to find out is if there is a difference between what instruments, resources and materials found in the $210 Logic 9 and the Logic Studio version that you can't download for free from inside Logic 9?
    Thanks

The instruments themselves are embedded within the Logic application, with the exception of the sample libraries for the EXS24 and Ultrabeat. All of the content, including the various Jampacks and sample libraries are available to download

    No.... free

The "Studio" DVD's include the now defunct Soundtrack Pro, which had around 20G of loops, beds and sound FX. Some of that material is now available for Final Cut X.
A few utility programs are also missing (Waveburner etc).

  • What is the difference between logic studio academic version and the normal version ?

what is the difference between logic studio academic version from the other versions ?

No difference... the Academic version cannot be upgraded to the next major revision.
If you had putchased the Logic 9 academic version you get all the updates 9.0, 9.03, 9.1, 9.3...etc
When Logic 10 rolls around you would have to purchase the application at full price, your version isn't elgible for the upgrade price.
Same software as the retail version though.

  • Difference between Logic Express and Pro? ro

Is the actual logic part the exact same? Is it that with the Pro you get all the extras? (soundtrack pro, qmaster, logic node, compressor, main stage, wave burner, jam packs). Is that what makes it the "pro" version? Or does the actual Logic app offer more abilities? If so, I can't seem to see much a difference. thanks

The app itself is indeed the same, but the included content and plug-ins are different.
This Apple support document details all the differences:

  • Difference between Logic Pro and Logic Express?

A buddy wants me to show him how to use Logic Express. I'm fairly up on Logic Pro, have used it for years. I'm wondering if I can get a trial version of Express to try out for an hour before embarrassing myself in front of him?
Or if there is a huge amount of difference in the basic setup?

There is very little difference, mostly in content (Jampacks, Waveburner, Mainstage..and a few of the high end plugins). Other than that they're functionally identical. same audio engine, you wouldn't know the difference just by looking at them.

  • Difference Between Logic Express 8 and Pro 8

I was close to purchasing Logic Express after finding out the store ran out of Logic Pro. I held off Express because i wasn't sure if i would get "some" of the same features. Im mostly looking for the feature that Pro has, where the audio "time stretches" itself according to tempo. I know earlier versions of Express couldn't do that. I didn't know if Express editing was the same as Pro. I like the fact that in Pro you can just grab and cut audio instead of double clicking the audio and editing it in a separate window (WEAK)!!!

  • Which version is good for me to buy? Logic 8 express or Logic studio?

As I said in another post, I did till now all my work in Garageband. I compose mainly classical music for all kind of instruments, I don't do anything with electronic music, nor do I write pop kind of music. What I did in Garageband was setting up my tracks for the orchestra instruments, or solo piano, or chamber instruments, give them a pan position according to the Jam pack orchestra manual, and added at the end of the recording some reverb. The result is mostly good enough but especially for bigger instrumental groups, like orchestra or strings, I am not happy with the result.
This is the reason I am looking around in the Logic 8 world. I want to have better results. My question now is should I buy Logic Studio or Logic 8 express?
What is the difference between the two except the extra jam packs? I already have the Orchestra and voices jam pack and have many orchestral sound fonts that I bought in the past.
Mainstage is meant to be used for stage performence, right? I will never use something like that if it is, or maybe I didn't understand yet what Mainstage is about.
Studio effects: Logic 8 express does also have reverb effect, but are they good enough to make a good classical orchestral recording? Or do I need Studio for this?
Soundtrack Pro 2: A wave editor. This maybe I could use although I never felt the need for this in Garageband. Still, you never know.
SO what do I miss exactly when buying the express version?
Hope to get some advice on this.
    Andr+e

Continue to use GarageBand until some new update for Logic Pro is released because upon opening your GarageBand 09 v5.0.1 projects into Logic Pro 8.0.2 you will receive the message, "Warning! This Project was created by a newer Logic Pro version. This may cause problems. Please update Logic Pro." After I hit "OK", a message says, "Logic Pro: Plug-in “Pedals” not available!, and then "Logic Pro: Plug-in “AmpSim2” not available!
Logic Pro is not for sampling right now because of my experience using it with my Mac Pro (Early 2008) 8 Core 3.2GHz, 32 Gig RAM, and Quadro FX 5600. I told the Apple store sales guy at the Apple Store that I needed comparable hardware and software for my new Mac Pro comparable to my Tascam GigaSampler PC workstation. He also had me get advice from the top trainer for Apple Logic Pro One to One training at their store. I made it clear my needs were to have the same capabilities and performance at that time that are possible with Tascam GigaSampler. The trainer said he sold his PC he used for sampling. So, in order to afford my Mac Pro, I sold my PC. Big mistake. Now I have not been able to continue working on many projects, now in the in-progress archive of mine, that I can not open anymore because Logic will not access even 3 Gigs of memory for projects with the EXS24 or any other sampler for that matter. With my Tascam Gigasampler accessing 16 Gigs was a breeze with no error messages. This enhancement will not be available until some update is released for Logic Pro above version 8.0.2.

  • Logic Pro, Logic Studio and Logic Express

Can someone explain the difference between Logic Pro, Logic Studio and Logic Express?

    Hi,
I don't think your friend is right on this. When you install Logic X, only the most essential part will be downloaded. After that you open Logic X, and from within the program  you can download all the other content. Logic will look if you already have Logic 9 content on your harddisk, so it won't download files that are already present. So, after all is downloaded, all files are on your harddisk, just like Logic 9. By the way, Logic 9 will still be available after installing Logic X.
Whether you will experience crashes will be very hard to prodect, because these will be caused by unforeseen combinations of your computer, audio interfaces, maybe even other hardware, kernel extensions etcetera. If you wait for a couple of months, updates of Logic X will probably have less crashes. As said, on my computer it's just as solid as Logic 9.
Garittan will probably advise a fast harddisk to prevent complaints when people are pushing the plugin to the edge. I would expect that it's not a black/white story.
The AUMatrixreverb can be found in any audio plugin slot completely at the bottom: Audio Units > Apple > AUMatrixReverb.
About the Epiano: in Logic Express there is only the Garageband Epiano, I think. Logic Pro 9 had a great ePiano that they gave a new name and changed a bit in Logic X. Both very nice.
Yes, you may be right, not too many drums with brushes in Logic X, I think. Or does anybody else know where to look??
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Differences between Pro, Express and Studio

Basically I'm looking for a version of Logic that has simple instrument plug-ins like trumpet and trombone (not trpt section, etc.).
I usually just to Rewire with Reason if Express doesn't have what I'm looking for.
But I'm considering just getting Pro- does that have a lot more instruments?
    Thanks

"Is there someone who has worked and has a good knowledge of adobe and can compare it with FCS?"
You don't seem to have an answer from anyone on this. All I can offer is that I used Premiere Elements extensively for years (up until a year ago) and with each new version I found it increasingly unstable. I stopped at 7.0 and apparently 8.0 is causing lots of frustration. Having heard so much about FCE I ditched PC based editing (prior to Elements I'd used Pinnacle Studio for a few years) and now I'm using an iMac and FCE.
In my experience this combination is incomparably more stable and powerful. There are so many examples of this but two that spring to mind are the selective cut and paste ("Paste Attributes") which is so crude and simple in Elements that it requires detailed planning in case you need to backout and the second is that, incredibly, in Elements you can't cut and paste a clip between projects/sequences. In fact Elements doesn't even have the Sequence concept: every timeline is a separate project and to copy a few edited clips from one project to another you have to export an AVI of them!
On the other hand, for slow motion I liked being able to simply stretch a clip between, say, two others instead of having to guess/calculate as one does with FCE. But that's relatively minor and as each day goes past I'm increasingly happy with my decision to go with FCE.

  • DIfference b/w expression builder logical column and derived logical column

    Hi Experts,
Can anyone tellme the difference between expression builder (when we double click the logical column) of derived logical column and expression builder of logical column( we see this in column mapping of LTS) ??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Formula given in the "expression builder of logical column( we see this in column mapping of LTS)" is performed on the physical layer of the RPD. I guess it is calculated in the Physical Query which is good for performance.
Formula in the expression builder of derived column is calculated in the BMM layer i.e in the logical query.
    Regards,
    Amrutha.

  • Any differences in LP8 and Logic Studio..?

Hi Everybody: Now that I´ve started to understand that it will be the best for me learning the new Logic, in order to keep working....I wonder if I am in the Logic Pro 8 or Logic Studio domain....?
I am a Logic user since version 2.7 , I had the upgrades made on time too. But now, after I´ve pay $499 for this new stuff, coming from LP7....There is a little shadow in my mind...
I know it is too late, but I would like to know if there are any differences between them (I mean, LP8 vs. Logic Studio).
    Thanks in advance

Well, Thanks you both. That´s what I though but since there are two discussions that point toward those two names, I desided to consult the experts.
I´ll keep trying to learn how to keep my work flow on those new windows and screensets.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Difference between logic pro 7 and 8

I'm just wondering if there's a difference between the Logic Studio ($500), and Logic Pro 8..or does Logic Pro 8 simply come within the Logic Studio package? Is there a big difference between Logic Pro 7 and 8? Also, is it worth the $200 upgrade?
