Difference between .mac and private site uploads

My .mac site is perfect but the same site, when published to a folder and ftp'd to my private domain, has strange problems:
1. I use the the blog template for art reviews. Each review works fine on the .mac site but when I move around on the private domain site I get a 404 error. By moving around I mean using the "previous" and "next" buttons.
2. Some of the links from the home page to one of the review pages hasn't worked so I've had to take them off. But they worked on the .mac site and not on the private domain one.
3. I use the blog template for multiple art reviews, slide shows and press releases - and have the same problem no matter how I do it. And I've tried redoing it over and over and over.
Take a peek and you'll see.
Try the "next" button and see what happens on each of these sites:

Hey, I understand why you asked why I deleted the public_html folder. I've been trying everything because NOTHING works. But I've got everything back in place and now my public_html folder has two items: an index.html file and the folder with all my pages. When I go to that folder on my desktop and click on the index file and then go into my REVIEWS (blog template) section, all the pages and links work.
BUT, when I do it online, I get NOT FOUND errors like this one. Thus my frustration.

The requested URL /RWFSite/Reviews/Entries/2007/3/5“Feelings”_Exhibition_at_Wickiser_Gallery,NYC.html was not found on this server.
Could it be that the page name is the title and it has special characters?
Could it be that the page name is too long?
Could it be that iWeb is not the right product for me?
Also, when this is all fixed, then I have to go into every html page and add keywords and description meta tags because iWeb doesn't seem to enable this feature.
Thanks for any and all help, suggestions or comments.

    Hi,
I've just bought the student version of LabVIEW 8.5.1 and am using Mac OS X 10.4.11. What are the biggest differences between the Mac and Windows versions since the box came with a Mac installer CD and a Windows installer DVD?

Looks like you got the LabVIEW Student Edition Software Suite DVD.
It comes with 6 toolkits, and from the product spects, some (or all?) of those are windows only (at least in 8.5), e.g.:
    Digital Filter Design Toolkit
    Modulation Toolkit
    SignalExpress
Since you have 8.5, you are also missing a few basic things that only recevied MAC support in 8.6, such as Mathscript, Control design and Simulation, and Native 3D graphs.

  • CS5 differences between mac and windows

Hello all, we just installed CS5 on a new PC and are now comtemplating purchasing a MAC to run CS5 on as well.  I was wondering what the differences are and limitations now that they're both on Intel processors.
Our designers are concerned that with out a MAC they won't be able to "if we get any native mac files, we won’t be able to access them—it does happen sometimes"
They mention that some portions of one of our publications are done completely on a MAC.
Any input or justification would be appreciated!

There are no differences to speak of between the applications on the two platforms. The only possible issue would be fonts. Mac Type 1 fonts are not compatible with Windows but almost everything is OpenType today and that's totally crossplatform.

  • What are the differences between mac and pc versions of elements 12

I am a Mac user and have been disappointed at some of the limitations of elements 11 on my Mac versus what I understand you can do on a pc. Have these issues been corrected for Mac users in elements 12? Thanks

I have to say that I find it really amusing when people who don't use a specific feature for a software program automatically criticize people who do need and/or use it. I realize that many people have different workflows, and some people use certain features often, whereas other people don't use those features at all. It doesn't mean that the feature should not be in the program. Having said that, I find watched folders to be indispensable for my workflow. In addition to photography, I do a lot of graphic design work. I use Photoshop Elements mainly for organizing all of my image files. I use the full version of Photoshop for most of my photo editing and graphic design work. I build most graphic design projects from the ground up in Photoshop. On the pc, once I initially saved the graphic design file, it would automatically be imported into the organizer for me. Any edits I made to photgraphs and then saved as psd files were also imported automatically into the organizer. As it stands now, I have to remember to (and sometimes hunt around for) any of these files after the fact so that I can import them in to the organizer. With 3 kids running around my house, I am often interrupted while working, and forget to immediately import the files into the organizer. It is a real pain in the neck for me to have to go back and search for files, sometimes weeks after I have created them. I really liked the way it worked on my pc and don't understand why it isn't available on the Mac. Lightroom has a version of the watched folder (though it moves files out of that folder upon import) and a synchronize folders function (though not automatic, and might take a while for a large catalog), both available on the Mac, so I would think that it's not really a Mac limitation. Then again, I'm not a programmer, and I know that something that seems like a small fix to me may require a huge amount of coding to accomplish. I just wish Adobe would tell me if this is NEVER going to happen, so that I can move on and establish a new workflow.

  • Difference between PC and mac?

With the Intel-based macs, we can install Windows on a mac and run it as if it's running on a PC. That leads me to a question. What exactly is the difference between PC and mac? I know they are different on the OS, but that's just on a software level, which I don't think constitutes the difference. The hard drives are formatted differently on both machines, I know, but we can still use the same hard drive for both a PC or a mac, we just have to format it the right way. So what really is the main thing that constitutes the difference between a PC and a mac? Putting it this way, I can run PC on a mac, can I do it the other way round? Can I install a Mac OS 10.5 on a pure PC made by companies like hp or Dell (or I can easily make one on my own) with an Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad processor, and run the machine like it's a mac?

    Allan Eckert wrote:
While some have managed to hack things so that they can install OS X on a PC, the results have been not very reliable. Generally OS X has many part that do not function properly.
It doesn't work well because the Mac hardware itself is different from what is found in any other Intel-based computer. Even the CPU's & support chips are not off-the-shelf Intel parts but variants optimized for Macs that are not available to other computer makers or to DIY enthusiasts.
This is probably why for a time in 2007 the 'fastest Windows notebook on earth' was a MacBook Pro, as tested by PC World, a fact touted for a while in Apple TV ads. (It lost that title to a more conventional Wintel laptop about a month later, but the new champ cost over $5000, had "almost nonexistent" battery life, & weighs over 11 pounds, which should give you some idea of the advantages an Intel-Apple collaboration has over the competition.)

  • HT1604 Is there any difference between Mac OS Extended Format and ExFat?

Is there any difference between Mac OS Extended Format and ExFat?  I read in a blog that the ExFat was a good way to format an external drive because it avoided many of the pitfalls of the other formats, as long as it is supported by the operating system.  I tried to format my new Seagate drive, and got an invalid option error.  I was able to format it in Mac OS Extended format.  Can you please tell me if this is similar to ExFat.  Thanks.

The Mac OS format can only be natively read to and written to by a computer running the Mac OS. This creates a problem if the user wishes his external, or other drive to have seamless compatibility between two different OS's, such as Windows and Mac. Yes, there are software solutions that enable a Windows PC to work with a drive formatted as Mac OS, but it gets complicated if you wish that drive to have compatibility "on the fly" with any PC you may encounter.
It turns out that the format known as ExFAT is able to be natively read by both a Mac and a PC, without running any additional drivers on either machine. ExFAT also doesn't have some of the limitations of FAT32, which both OS's will also read/write.
ExFAt is not perfect though. Formatting the drive as Mac OS Extended has some advantages on a Mac. First, it is the only format that permits all functionality of the Mac OS, such as using the drive for Time Machine.
ExFAt is often thought of as the best middleground for an external partition/drive that needs to have easy cross platform compatibility between a Mac and  PC running Vista or Windows 7.

  • Difference between Mac Pro and Mac XServer

    Hi,
I wanted to know if there is any difference between Mac Pro and the Mac XServer - at the OS level? Meaning, if I design an application on Mac Pro would it run seamlessly on XServer or do I need to care about a few things.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

Both Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server are presently at the Tiger 10.4.10 release, with Mac OS X Server having various added pieces and features, and having a few structural and configuration differences.
    * Do both of them support the ipv6 protocol
Yes; both Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server both offer IPv6.
    * do both of them support LDAP and PAM based authentication
Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server have LDAP support, yes. Mac OS X Server has LDAP authentication, DNS and a variety of other servers built in. Mac OS X is configured as a client, though there is the Apache web server.
Haven't looked for PAM for either platform.
    * Do both of them support the same level of Java ( I understand we need 1.5 or higher for Tiger / Leapord)
Java itself is the same on both Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server, though Mac OS X Server has server-oriented pieces of Java present. And it's still write once, debug everywhere.
No Leopard questions are permissible here at this time; Leopard details are NDA.
    * Do the compilers (gcc) have different compilation options - maybe xServer uses some better optimized flags that handle large volumes of data and network traffic.
AFAIK, there are no differences in gcc defaults. Nor would I expect any. Handling volumes of data is left to the programmer. (I'm not even sure how a compiler author would even implement that sort of difference.)
    * Is there any difference in the behavior of the way the libraries ...
I'd expect the exact same behavior the programmer requested would occur with both platforms.
Now as for what I expect is the root of your question, yes, you'll likely want to test your application on both Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server software platforms. There can exist very hard to predict details such as cases where dual NICs or the aforementioned directory differences that have tossed a few applications off the rails and into the weeds; have caused applications to fail.
You can choose to install Mac OS X Server on a Mac Pro. Probably the 10-client, because you probably aren't planning to serve piles of clients from the Mac Pro.
An overview of Mac OS X Server is here:
    http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/specs.html
Now as to whether or not I would expect run-time differences, no. But I've been at this way too long and have chased way to many weird bugs to make any promises here.

what is the difference between Macs Voice Over and the text to talk feature

Voice Over doesn't need someone to type in the text first. Voice Over works with specific screen displayed information so that a blind person can know where his/her cursor is or what is being displayed. Although it is an application of text to talk it's more than the text to talk feature.

What is the difference between mac pro early 2008 and 2008? There are specs warning me it won't work on early 2008 but it will on 2008 models when I'm looking for components to buy. Is this true?

    Not true.
There is 3,1, there was nothing else.
you can pull up Apple Support Mac Pro specs easy enough and tell by RAM speed and other items - or go to Everymac.com even.
All we need and what you could have done is taken the top line of System Profile that tells the model.

Do I need Java 8 or should I disable it? What happens if i disable it? And what is the difference between Java and Java Runtime?

There's no difference. They're both runtime plug-ins (they run when an app calls for Java functions).
You only need Java if you either have Java apps on your Mac that won't run without having it installed, or you use trusted web sites that require Java to function (getting fewer and far between). Otherwise, you have no need for it at all.

    Hi people,
Could u just tel me abt what is the difference between ABAP and HR-ABAP?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Sir ,
Please have a look below .Hope it is suitable and simpler solution for your question.
    Please do reward if useful.
    Thankx.
HR deals with the INFOTYPES which are similar to Tables in General ABAP.
There are different ways of fetching data from these infotypes.
There are different areas in HR LIKE Personal Admn, Orgn Management, Benefits, Time amangement, Event Management, Payroll etc
Infotypes for these areas are different from one another area.
storing of records data in each type of area is different
LDBS like PNP are used in HR programing.
Instead of Select.. we use some ROUTINES and PROVIDE..ENDPROVIDE.. etc
and in the case of Pay roll we use Clusters and we Import and Export them for data fetching.
On the whole Normal ABAP is different from HR abap.

Orgn related Infotypes start with HRP1000 to HRP1999.
All custom developed infotypes stsrat with PA9000 onwards.
In payroll processing we use Clusters like PCL1,2,3 and 4.
Instead of Select query we use PROVIDE and ENDPROVIDE..
You have to assign a Logical Database in the attributes PNP.

    Few notes are below:
    InfoSets in the HR Application
You can use SAP Query in HR to report on HR data. Queries are maintained as described in Creating Queries. The special features of queries created for HR are described in Maintaining Queries in the Human Resources Application. The maintenance procedure for HR InfoSets differs from the described procedure inasmuch as HR data fields are grouped together in infotypes.
InfoSet management in SAP Query is also used for InfoSet Query. For further information, see Functions for Managing InfoSets.
If you want to create InfoSets for HR, you can use logical databases PNP, PNPCE, PAP, and PCH (see HR Logical Databases). The database you must use to create your InfoSet depends on the component in which the data you want to report on is stored.
The reports you can execute using InfoSets based on logical databases PNP (or PNPCE) or PCH are similar, but differ in that they can select different objects. The following table describes the connection between the logical database, and the infotypes you can include in an InfoSet. It also provides you with one or two examples of reports that you can execute using the appropriate InfoSets.
    Logical database PNP/PNPCE* PCH PAP

Logical database PNPCE (PNP Concurrent Employment) functions just like logical database PNP. The procedure for creating InfoSets is also the same. It only becomes significant if you work with Concurrent Employment.
    Creating InfoSets
The maintenance procedure for HR InfoSets differs from the procedure described so far in this section inasmuch as HR data fields are grouped together in infotypes. To set up an InfoSet for the HR application, proceed as follows:
    1. On the initial screen for maintaining InfoSets, enter a name for the InfoSet and choose Create.
    2. On the next screen, enter a name for the InfoSet and select one of the HR logical databases in accordance with your reporting requirements.
Customer infotypes can be created on all HR logical databases. In each individual case, therefore, you must decide which database to select so that you can report on customer infotypes.
This screen enables you to enter an authorization group. All of the queries that are subsequently created using this InfoSet can only be executed by persons who have this authorization group.
    3. Choose .
This takes you to the Infotype Selection for InfoSet  screen. You now have the option of creating field groups and assigning fields as required for non-HR InfoSets. Field groups that correspond to infotypes and already contain fields, however, are always created for HR InfoSets. The field groups are displayed in an overview tree in the top right section of the screen.
The infotypes that you included in the InfoSet are displayed in an overview tree on the left of the screen. The infotype fields that are already included in field groups are displayed in a different color, and the corresponding field group ID is displayed.
In the standard system, a field group is created automatically for each infotype that you included in the InfoSet (a field group corresponds to an infotype).
In the standard system, each field group contains the infotype-specific fields. To ensure that working with the InfoSet is as easy as possible, you are advised to restrict your use of fields in each field group to those you really require. This means you should remove fields that are not required.
An infotype's fields must only be assigned to the pertinent field group. Make sure this assignment is correct. If the assignment is incorrect, the InfoSet could be rendered unusable.
When an InfoSet is created, the following fields are transferred automatically to the first field group:
§ Logical database PNPCE or PNP Personnel number
§ Logical database PAP Applicant number
§ Logical database PCH Object ID, plan version, and object type
    6. Determine the fields that must be included in the field groups of your InfoSet. If you require further information, see Assigning Fields to a Field Group.
If you want, you can change the default sequence of field groups and fields as required using Drag&Drop.
    7. To save the InfoSet, choose .
    8. To generate the InfoSet, choose .
On the Change InfoSet (InfoSet name) screen, you can choose Edit ® Change infotype selection to add more infotypes to the InfoSet, or to remove infotypes from the InfoSet. Remember to regenerate the InfoSet afterwards.
This screen also enables you to update InfoSets if, for example, the system contains new additional fields for specific key values. To do so, choose InfoSet ® Additional functions ® Update additional HR fields.
    9. Go back to the initial screen for InfoSet maintenance.
    10. Choose User group assignment.
    11. Select a user group, and save your entry.
