Difference between MacBook and Pro?

Hi there. Just a quick question...
I looked at the MacBook for the first time today (rather than the MacBook Pro) and saw I could get the same spec for less. The only difference I could see was the screen size. I'm sure there's more to it. Can someone explain? Thanks

Other than the obvious screen size difference, the other major difference is the video chipset. The MacBook uses an "integrated" Intel GMA 950 with 64MB of shared videom memory, while the MacBook Pro uses an ATI Radeon x1600 Mobility with 128MB or 256MB of dedicated video memory. This translates to much better performance in games and thing that make heavy use of the graphics card.
To me, this is the only real difference, and if it weren't for that, I would own one right now. As it stands, though, I need to do a little more thinking about whether I'm ok with essentially giving up the option of playing graphic-intensive games in XP. I'm not a huge gamer now, so it might not bother me much, but the idea (for me) was to get a MB/P as a desktop replacement, and in case I want to play games in the future I'll need to go back to the desktop...

  • Differences between standard and pro versions

I was reading the comparision of these two Acrobat versions and for Pro it says:
Edit and enhance photos to add to your PDF communications with Adobe Photoshop® CS5.
Quickly transform static PowerPoint slides into compelling, interactive PDF presentations with Adobe Presenter
Rapidly combine screen recordings, narration, video, slides, and more into a rich media experience with Adobe Captivate® 5
Does that mean that the Pro version includes Photoshop, Presenter and Captivate programs as well? Or, what are the differences? As an aside, the new look and feel of the Adobe website is confusing at best. Seems geared to being flashy, not useful.
    Regards, David

Acrobat does not included those other packages. One of the pages that always struck me funny (maybe I have a twisted mind) but has this artistic background is the updates page. The background looks like a lacy bra to me. It is the first thing that comes to mind every time I see it. That is a problem with abstract images (that are typically unnecessary and waste bandwidth), that a lot is in the eye of the beholder. Actually, I have heard from many others that also see the bra.
OK, back to Acrobat. There are several aspects of Acrobat that allow you to have links to the other products built in, but they are not included. The page at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide.html?promoid=JIJYS provides some info, but a lot is missing. For instance there are differences with PDF Optimize and Reduce File Size I think (sorry, I do not have Std to check). One important one that is part of pro is the preflight option. Apparently Std does not include portfolios or allow PDF comparison according to the chart.
If you are into forms, then Std apparently will do them as AcroForms (my preference, partially because of familiarity), but does not include Designer if that was your preference. Some of the enabling for Reader is not available in Std. Also, Std does not allow embedding Flash. Std is limited for some of the products that include PDF Maker (not a big one for me, but might be important to you).
That is a quick summary based on the chart. However, be aware there are some other features that the chart does not seem to cover. For the difference between Std and Pro, I would suggest getting Pro. The big hit is the initial cost of the product, not the step up to Pro. In a business plan consider the time that might be wasted trying to do some of the things in Pro that are not in Std. Those are the types of issues to consider. Many folks consider the cost to be large, and for a small business it is. However, in the long term it may be worth the cost.
Keep in mind that many large CAD packages in engineering run about $30,000 for a single license, half the cost of the engineer that would use it. Some other tools are about $15,000. In that view, Acrobat is cheap (except for cheapskates like me).

  • Internal Differences between MacBook and MacBook Pro?

I was wondering if anyone has concrete information on whether on not the un-coustomizable, internal workings of the MacBook and MacBook Pro are different, such as the motherboard, logic board, other interfaces, etc.
I have been talking with Apple reps and none have been able to give me a deffinate answer or written proof. Does anyone have info. supporting or refuting the statement that MacBooks and MacBook Pros are condigured/maunfactured with the same parts, aside from the Video Card?
    Thanks

They are not the same; the disassembley pictures for both are here so you can compare for yourself

  • Timing difference between Macbook and WIndows system

I uses a web content management system for my website which was developed in windows, IE and firefox compatible. I notice that if I open up the website in a Macbook Pro, the system time is always 8 hours ahead of Singapore time although the Macbook time settings is set locally. I use firefox, safari, IE5, same result. Which means whatever contents I saved only appears 8 hours later. I use Windows IE or firefox and it works just fine. I don't think is the CMS system problem. I thought it might just be on this Macbook, I got someone to try it out using another Macbook, same result, 8 hours ahead. So it it something about the Macbook settings?
    na   Windows XP Pro

    Hi Keonigt,
There are definitely hardware differences between the MacBook and its bigger sibling the MacBook Pro. You pointed out the first difference of screen sizes. Another perhaps obvious difference is the MacBook Pro's external construction is aluminum as opposed to "plastic". Another difference which may affect performance is that the MacBook Pro utilizes dedicated Video RAM as opposed to the MacBook's sharing it's VRAM with its RAM. This will affect gaming and other graphic intensive applications.
Depending on your needs and objectives - these differences will affect your decision. Of course, both are fantastic machines.
    Good luck.

  • Differences between express and pro

    Hi:
What are some key differences between the Pro and Express versions? I understand that Pro included in the studio package and express is a stand alone product. Anything else?
    Thanks!

Express is limited to DV, HDV and some AVCHD codecs.
Pro will handle just about any codec you throw at it and is scalable to hardware as well.
DVD SP, LT, Motion, ST, Cinema Tools are included in Pro. Color as well which is worth the whole package.
Only LT with Express I believe.

  • Difference between MacBook and MacBook Pro

I'm wondering why someone would choose a Pro model over the non-Pro model. Is it worth the extra $.
    The difference I see are:
    Screen size
Only have firewire port on Pro
Only have back lit keyboard on Pro
While the Pro I'm looking at has faster Processor (2.4/2.0), the bus speed is slower on the Pro (800/1066).
    Thanks for any tips/advice.

I recnetly checked both machines at a local Distributor (scNet), and there's quite the difference apart from what you posted. Despite the fact that I rrrreally like the cute very mobile 13" form factor, I decided for the 15"machine. The display of the larger notebook is amazingly better, the 13" display really is a disgrace, it's washed out and doesn't feel as high end as it should. Coming from an Asus W2J 17" glossy, I'm used to reflections, but the 13" inch would have been a step backwards. Also, the 15" has the better processor options (larger L2, higher speeds and the 7200 rpm harddisks, which you really should spent 50 or 90 bucks for, as they will make a LOT of difference in terms of performance). However much I may like the compactness of the smaller machine, it's pretty clear that the macbook pro is well worth paying 600€ more.

No difference other than one is for the Russian market. Specs on both are the same, standard Apple Store issue versions.
Of course the screen choice of anti-glare, glossy, high res or low res is not included.
The default is likely the cheap glossy and low res.

What is the difference between MacBook pro 2011 and 2012

understanding that at the time of the question, there has not been any Macbook Pro 2012, now it is later and there is.
    The difference is:
-CPU being used (2011 models: Sandy Bridge, 2012 models: Ivy Bridge)
    -Graphics (2011: intel 3000 + on 15"/17" ATI, 2012: intel 4000 + on 5"/17" nvidia Geforce 650M)
    -USB (2011: USB2.0 only, 2012: USB3.0)
    -Bluetooth (2011. 2.1 + EDR, 2012: 4.0)
Ivy Bridge CPUs are smaller and are a little bit more energy-efficient.
Other than that, currently the devices are not much different in respect to performance (Apple's graphics driver performance is known to increase during upgrades, though, so the performance gap may widen up)

  • How bright is the display and difference between MacBook Pro

I have not decided which MacBook/Pro I will buy. An issue is the display. The display of my old 500Mhz G3 ibook looks quite dim compared to external displays.
Usual you find the specs for the brightness (eg 300cd/m2) and contrast ratio's (1:800) in the technical data sheets. However, I couln't find this information for the MacBook or MacBook Pro. Does anyone know this values and how do they compare to iMac or the Apple Display (I still have the feeling that external displays are much brighter).
My second question is, how compares the MaBook display to the MacBook Pro (glossy), besides the different size. I will definite go for a Pro in case the display of the Pro is much better.
    Many thanks

2)What approach you take to tune query? Do you use Hints?Hints can help.
Even more helpful is writing the SQL efficiently (avoiding multiple scans of the same table, filtering early, using built-in rather than user-defined functions, ...), creating and using indexes, and, for large tables, partitioning.
Table design can have a big impact on performace.
Look for ways to do part of what you need before the query. This includes denormalizing (when appropriate), the kind of pre-digesting that often takes place in data warehouses, function-based indexes, and, starting in Oracle 11, virtual columns.
3)Where did you tune the query and what are the issue with query?Either this question is a vague summary of the entire thread, or I don't understand it. Can you re-phrase this part?
4)What is difference between RBO and CBO? where u use RBO and CBO.Basically, use RBO if you have Oracle 7 or earlier.
