Difference between monitor cables

I am thinking about buying a Mac Mini and was wondering about what type cable I would need for my Dell monitor 2005FPW. What is the difference between the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that comes with the Mini and the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter?
I have never owned an Apple computer so I am clueless.

I think the difference is in the maximum screen resolution:
HDMI port 1920 x 1200
Mini Display port: 2560 x 1600
An idea how to use two ports at the same time

  • Differences between Monitor and Decrypt actions in Decryption Policies

    Hi Everybody,
Currently I'm working in my first WSA (S170) implementation and some questions has popped up while I was configuring the Decryption policies. The main question here is:
What are the differences between "monitor" and "decrypt" in the URL Filtering options. As I understand the "decrypt" action allows the WSA to decrypt the packet and treats it like a plain HTTP packet applying the Access Policies, malware inspection and so on. Then I do not really know what the Monitor option does, I'm assuming that it does not decrypt the packet and only checks the destination URL and to allow or not the connection.
Thanks in advance for your collaboration.
    Jose M. Cortes H.

If you set it for Decrypt, it always decrypts stuff in that category.
If you set it to monitor, then other criteria in the policy are used for whether to decrypt or not, such as Web Reputation...
Here's the flow, which I pulled from the online help:

  • Difference between Monitoring Process and Integration Process

What is the difference between the Monitoring Process object for BAM and Integration Process object? Both seem to have exactly the same design environment in the Enterprise Services Builder.
Is it so that Monitoring Process alarms only appear in the UWL of the specified user?
Also, suppose I am wanting to create a receive step to wait for the arrival of a message instead of an event (say I want to check a specific message arrives before a certain time, correlating several fields of the message, which is something I cannot do I believe with alert monitoring). Am I able to do this? I cannot see a reason why not, but I'd like confirmation.
    BR,
    Tony.

    Hi,
Thanks for the link! I read through the replies, but it still leaves a couple of basic questions unsolved:
    1) Why did SAP discriminate these two types of PI objects at design time - the Monitoring Process and the Integration Process?
    2) new capabilities of PI 7.1 are touted as:
Event provisioning and consumption for BAM:
    - Local container
    - Subscription and handling of business process events
    - Milestone Monitoring
So can I only employ event provisioning, subscription of Business process Events and Milestome monioring with  a Monitoring process, or can I do that with an Integration Process as well?
    BR,
    Tony.

  • Difference between Firewire Cable IEEE 1394-Firewire IEEE 1394a-IEEE 1394b

I want to buy a 6 ft firewire cable 800 9-pin/9-pin to connect my Macbook Pro to an extrernal HD (G-Technology mini 500 GB)
I'm not sure what all the different IEEE #'s mean- IEEE 1394, IEEE 1394a, IEEE 1394b
Various reviews state not to buy cable that is all plastic at end since it breaks off. Some cables do not make good connection and fall out while others malfunction quickly.
    I have MacBook Pro(13 inch), Snow Leopard installed, OS X 10.6.2, 2.53. GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Any suggestions which brand firewire I should buy with which IEEE?
    Thanks

On the back of your G-drive you're likely to see the label firewire 800, I believe that is what that drive uses. So does your MBP.
What you need is a firewire 1394b cable 9-pin to 9-pin, if you're worried about the brand you might try Cables-to-go, they sell good cable.
    http://www.cablestogo.com/productlist.asp?catid=612
1394a is for the 400Mbps standard and the 1394b is for the 800Mbps standard.
The firewire that is on your MBP is 1394b and it's backward compatible to 1394a devices. If you ever need to connect a device that is for 1394a (400Mbps) then you'll need a cable that is 9-pin on one end and 6 or 4-pin on the other, which ever of the two the device uses.

  • Difference between Integration Process and Monitoring Process

    Hi Experts,
What is the difference between Integration Process and Monitoring Process available in PI7.1?
SAP says that Monitoring process is a special kind of integration process that receives the event messages.
My doubt is even integration process can receive the event messages.
Why these two different type of entities are created for the same purpose?
And what is the technical difference between the two in terms of PI perspective?
    Regards,
    Sami.

    My question is now answered.
On page 17 of this pdf following sentence is mentioned :-
From technical perspective, there is no difference between monitoring process and integration process.
Though logically those are two deifferent things.
Monitoring porcesses are used to receive only event messages that is comprises of event data only.
Like Purchase order creation is a event and its event message will have the event data like Order Id, Created on, Created by, Quantity etc., instead of whole purchase order.
Where as Integration Process is a way to provide solution in some specific circummtances like where we have to automate our process or where we need something in between for the course of communication.
Guys thanks for your precious time.

    Sami.

  • Is there any difference between the iPad and iPhone cables?

Alot of people are mentioning that there's difference with the speed while syncronising/backup. I am just wondering is there any difference between the cables? and how can I distinguish it? Coz I have most of the i- products and I have just mixed up all the cables >__< Thank you!

I can confirm that iPad/iPod cables are identical. Don't know about iPhone. IF there is a difference, you'll know immediately - function or functions won't work.
There will be NO speed difference. Either the copper is present or it isn't and copper is copper.

  • Is there any difference between the digital connection cables?

Is there any difference between digital connection cables that connect to the back of a computer?  I've seen some with two groups of nine pins and a blade.  I've seen some with a solid group of 27 pins.  I've seen the blade pin and the four pin.  I currently run one that has two groups of nine pins with a blade pin.  I use it for DVI and it does ok.  I wanted to look into the HDMI cable and see how or if things would be different.  I bought a cable that has the 27 pin connector with a blade.  It physically connects but there is no signal.  I checked the monitor and I set it first to HDMI and then tried AUTO.  It made no difference.  I powered it all down and restarted it all and there was no difference.  Do I need to keep looking for a cable that has the same design connection to the PC but has the HDMI connection on the other end.  I may have this info wrong.  I just know I have two large connections at the time but the last cable I tried had one large connector and one that looked like an advanced USB design.  And then is there really any gain between the two as far as video quality or response?

There are several type of connectors/cables with different effect.
    VGA
    DVI
    HDMI
To understand more, I would say please look it up.
    Wish you luck,
    Karthik

  • In OSX Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory

In OS X Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory. My daughters 2Gb MacBook Pro is very slow, it probably needs more memory but there is almost 1Gb of 'inactive' memory but no 'free' memory when an application is opened.
    Thanks

Free RAM is the one that has not been used by any application since you started up your Mac, and inactive RAM is the one that was used by an application and it is not in use anymore.
1 GB of inactive RAM is a lot, and it may be the cause of the slowness. There are a lot of apps that allows you to turn inactive into free RAM. I use FreeMemory, but have a look at the Mac App Store.
If you are a developer, you can do that with a command you can type into Terminal:
    sudo purge

  • What is the exact technical difference between "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" and "Lightning to USB Cable"

Mainly I am interested in attaching the iPhone to a receiver (or car etc.) to play music.
Both the "Lightning to USB Cable" and the "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" seem to do the trick. So what is the exact technical difference between the two items?
When connected to a receiver, is the iPhone the USB Master in both cases? Is the USB "Audio Device Class" standard used to transmit audio?

Thanks for all the answers! I think I should specify the use case much more clearly. Sorry for not having done this earlier.
    Use Case 1:
When I connect the iPhone to the receiver I can use the Lightning to USB, because the receiver has a female type A, just like e.g. a PC or like the charger. So I would agree that the Receiver must be the USB host, and the iPhone the USB device. This works just fine in my case, with iPhone and iPad.
In this case, the audio goes from the device to the host, or "Audio-in".
    Use Case 2:
A friend of mine has a small device that converts USB to Toslink. This thing has a female Mini USB Type A, which is typically used at the receiving side of a USB connection. This device can be connected e.g. to a Mac, and then the Mac can output audio via this device to receiver which accepts optical Toslink signals.
In this case, the audio goes from the host to the device, or "Audio-out".
It is this use case 2 that I am unsure about:
    a) Can the Lightning to USB cable be used in this case (assuming that I find the necessary non-standard adapters to actually connect the USB ports)? This would mean that the iPhone can act as a USB host with the Lightning to USB cable.
    b) I know that the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter does convert the iPad into an USB host, otherwise it could not read data from a camera. So could this adapter also be used to produce "Audio out" to a USB device that supports receiving music?
If yes, would this also work with an iPhone (as pointed out in another answer, the iPhone does nor support reading pictures from a camera)?

  • Difference between these Thunderbolt cables for an iMac?

What is the difference between these two Thunderbolt cables for connecting Thunderbolt harddrive docking station to an iMac?
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD862ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-cable-05-m
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD861ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-cable-20-m
    Thanks!

Along the lines of this topic, does anyone know whether Mini DisplayPort cables are usable for Thunderbolt? Here's one, for example, that's cheaper than Apple's $29 cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B009NE77TQ/
I would be concerned about (at least) two things:
    1. Can it handle the speed?
    2. Does it have the right circuit?
It's possible that if it *seems* to work in a thunderbolt application, you might still run into trouble with intermittent data failure if it's not up to the task.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

  • How do you tell the difference between a genuine USB to Lightning cable? I spoke to two different operators at Apple Support. One said that it has Designed in California Made in China and the serial number on it, and the other operator said it didn't

How can you tell the difference between a genuine Apple lead and the cheap, or sometimes not so cheap imitations? I spoke with two people at Apple Support - one said that it has Designed in California Made in China and the serial number stamped on it, and the other said it didn't. Come on guys, how are we supposed to tell if you can't? I'd really like to know how to identify my lead amongst my daughter's gazillion fakes?

All my cables are genuine either with the devices or from Apple retail Store I have never found a serial number on any regardless of which length ,I have all three lengths
In fact they have nothing printed at all only a USB logo at relevant end

  • Difference Between Print & Monitor: What to expect

How do I manage the difference between what I see on screen and my print output?
I don't think it's a color management problem but more a question about whether I understand it sufficiently.
I have a pretty cheap inkjet which has a matched profile for glossy paper (made with Eye 1 device).  Overall, the color is OK but it's the brightness that gets me.  My main question is should I expect an image on a monitor to be brighter than the same image printed on glossy paper?  I'd guess the difference is up to a stop and certainly a half stop.
If I choose >view>Proof Setup>Custom and select the profile for the printer then it certainly brings the brightness of the screen image down a bit but then, when I try to adjust with that profile the image I'm trying to print can't really take the adjustment.  Here's my next question.  If I am preparing an image in PS for this printer, should I work with Monitor RGB as the Proof setting or use the profile of the printer/paper?
I'm pretty sure I have a reasonable grasp of color management (without the really technical stuff) but am I understanding it's application in PS?
    Thanks
    Martin

The monitor uses transmitted light, the printer, inks. The same as why transparencies always seem brighter than their respective prints. The dynamic range of the two media don't match.
So far as matching, the best case is to use curves while having the print profile to bring it up a bit. The second option is to use  papers that come closer to the monitor, or at least is satisfactory when switching the profile on and off.
With a cheap printer, you may be pushing it a bit to go to the expensive papers. Two I would try are:
    Epson Exhibition fiber;
    Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta.
One way to find if papers are possibly useful is to download the profiles, apply them and see how the look changes.
Printing is an art well beyond simple clicking of profiles, no matter how they are made.

  • Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Yes you have a one year warranty from the date of purchase from Apple. Go to this link and on the bottom right hand side it will ask you to enter your serial number and will tell you if you are still under warranty. http://www.apple.com/support/
If you are you can take it to a Apple store, or request service online here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is out of warranty you can google a third party service provider and get it serviced out of warranty. There are two that I know of that provide free diagnostic service. You only pay for shipping and they will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost to fix. They are ifixipodsfast.com and ipodmods.com but there are others also (I just have no experience with them) Good luck and as was stated it should charge from your usb. and just for grins, look at the docking connector on your ipod and see if there is any obstruction that is obvious.

  • Difference between C65XX and C665 LVDS cable

Hey guys, I have a Toshiba C665/01J laptop and it needs the LVDS cable replaced.
On eBay there is one for a C65XX series and C66XX series, but they look almost exactly the same and the C650 cable is cheaper.
I was just wandering if there was a difference between the C65XX and C66XX series in terms of LVDS cable, because I'm probably going to get the cheaper one (C65XX).

720x480 (NTSC DV 3:2) is a measurement of the rectangular pixels of the DV25 codec. Most applications display as square pixels. So 720x480 rectangular pixels is actually equal to 640x480 square pixels.
