Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
I am little confused and curious to know the recent changes happening in SAP.
Can you please tell me the differences between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 7.0 or 7.1
NetWeaver 2004 is named because SAP has released it in 2004
and then we have XI 3.0, XI.7.0(that is PI right) , EP6.0 etc as individual components have different versions released in NewtWeaver suite.
But what is this NetWeaver 7.0.
We have EE5 or ECC6 and WebAs 6.4 or GUI 6.4 or recently GUI 7.o or WebAs 7.0.
How does all these differe, is individual component of NetWeaver upgraded with higher versions or total NetWever is upgraded with a higher version.
Can any one please tell me the exact difference between versions.
If some one has ECC6 installed in their environment does it mean that they have Netwaver components like XI, EP, MDM.. etc are installed or its only R/3, BI etc...
How it works exactly?
Thanks,
Kiran.
Pretty much everything is explained in here:
<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/706005a3-3bd6-2910-91ae-a2016239bdcf">SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 Overview of New Capabilities</a>
I think there's a weblog with a concise list somewhere, but I dont have the link saved.
Hope that helps.

Differences between Netweaver 2004 and Netweaver 2004s?
Hi All,
Can anyone please explain me in details the major differences between Netweaver 2004 and Netweaver 2004s.
Thanks in advance
Regards
HenryHi Henry,
This content i got from experts:
The code developed on 2004 will work on 2004s.
Some minor changes have been made refer to the documentation for specific details
SAP NW2004s is the mySAP Business Suite edition of SAP NW 2004.it is a minor release that delivers on specific needs of the mySAP and xapps solutions delivered by SAP in 2005. the "s" stands for "mySAP Business Suite Edition".
The next major release of NW will deliver on Business Process Platform(BPP) it will be released in 2006.
Few of the New capabilities in NW2004s
1)Developing a web based user interface with Web Dynpro fro ABAP.
2)Enhancements to enabling B2B processes
3)Enhancements to business task management
4)Enhancements to business planning
5)Enhancements to enterprise data warehousing
6)mass setup of mobile devices
7)implementing a global portal

NW04 is a 'Java version' which means you can develop applications using Java and export them to portal.
NW04s is a 'ABAP version'.Here you can develop ABAP reports and transactions and export them to portal. There you can create iViews using them.
Netweaver 04s, includes both the ABAP and Java stacks. The Sneak preview for NW04s is only for the ABAP stack, and the Sneak Preview NW04 SP15 is only the java stack. If you are using the sneak preview for ABAP, you can develop WDA applications and BSP applications, they run directly in the engine, not in a portal. But they can be embeded in an iView in some portal. You don't have to have a portal to run your application. If you are using the java side, you can develop WDJ applications and JSP applications. Same applies here, they run on the java engine, not in a portal, but can be embeded into an iView which runs on the portal. But you don't need a portal for your application to run. The portal is just a frontend UI, the apps themselves run on the underlying engine, whether its ABAP or JAVA.

Difference between ecc6.0 AND Netweaver 2004s
HI all,
I want to understand the basic difference between ECC 6.0 and netweaver 2004s.ECC 6.0 is abap and stack and if we want to java stack then do we install netweaver 2004s java stack seperately or we have a java addin for ecc 6.0 facility. If we install netweaver 2004s abap stack only does that mean that we have ecc 6.0 installed?Hi,
Ecc 6 is Comes under the ERP
While Netweaver 2004s is Sepereat component under which BW.XI Portal come.
You can install ABAP+ JAVA in both the Cases.
If you install Netweaver 2004s only ABAP it does not become ECC6.

Difference between MX 2004 and MX 2004 Pro?
I have a fairly unusual situation and am looking for some
rookie info from a generous soul. What is the difference between
Dreamweaver MX 2004 and MX Professional 2004? I once had MX, the
version before 2004, I believe. I used it to create a web site to
show my paintings. Eventually I changed computers, went to load my
copy of Dreamweaver, and discovered that it had disappeared. As a
starving artist, I have not been able to replace it. (I haven't
updated my art site in almost 2 years!) I'm trying to now, but
can't afford (and don't think I need) v8. I think MX 2004 will do
nicely for my needs. But what is MX Pro? (Can't get the info on
Macromedia site, unless I'm even more rookie than I thought.)
Please help!Be careful.

NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 2004s Certification
Dear all,
Would like to take exam on NetWeaver 2004 Web AS for Oracle.
Going to take it in March or April.
Just wondering how long is this Netweaver 2004 going to last for? I saw from the marketplace that 2004 is the lastest certification you can get on Netweaver WEB AS. And when do we have 2004s WEB AS exam? Don't want to take the exam that is going to expire soon.
Appreciate if someone can tell something about this.

Difference between NetWeaver 2004 and NetWeaver 2005?
Although SAP is mentioning it in several presentations, no specific information is (public) available on NetWeaver 2005.
We are looking for arguments to wait with our strategy to switch to NetWeaver 2005, but this means that we have to wait to the beginning of 2006 (at least then we expect it to be GA).
Can anybody tell me if there is information on NetWeaver 2005 available, and if so, where I can get it?
TIA,
Jacques DokterThe reason we are waiting is that we expect a seriously changed architecture. Currently, NetWeaver has only WAS 6.40 as the common component. All applications - in particular OLTP - is still connected using plug-in's.
We have heard that this will change in later releases of NetWeaver where XI will be the plug-in layer.
Also the ESA will be much more mature. But this is only what we have heard.
Up to now, there has not been an official document from SAP that can confirm this.
Oh, and John, NetWeaver 2005 was mentioned during the TechEd 2004 in Munich.

Difference between ecc6.0 and netweaver
Hello Friends,
Kindly explain me the below
Our ISU and CRM were configured and installed at the same time.
The component version in ISU is SAP ECC 6.0 where as the component version in CRM is CRM 5.0.
Is net weaver the platform for ECC6.0?
I understand ecc6.0 is r/4 with internet.
Why is CRM an another version and not part of ECC6.0
Kindly clarify,
Thanks
Regards,
Rasiq KhanHi ,
ECC 6.0 is just the core ERP system. It has been changed from R/3 to ECC. It runs on top of the WebAS 6.40 which is a component of the netweaver platform. Just remember that ECC 6.0 is the same as the ERP system R/3, its just been renamed and improved.
MySAP refers to the classic ERP package, whereas Netweaver is the platform.
Check also
http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/index.epx for mysap
and
http://www.sap.com/solutions/netweaver/index.epx fro Netweaver
Netweaver is the platform....EP , PI(XI),BI(BW),MDM are the main components in netweaver.

Difference Between Netweaver 6 and Netweaver 7 and Netweaver 7.2
Dear all,
Right now my company uses on SAP ECC 6.0.
can any body tell me that what is the difference between these versions of netweaver.
Plz. reply me or give me some links .
i m new in netweaver.
Thanx in advanceThere is nothing like Netweaver 6. [There is only ECC 6.0]. Netwever is the technology Platform of SAP Business suite ( Coponents of it include ECC 6.0, CRM, SRM ). Hence, the underlying Technology platform of ECC6.0 is Netweaver 7.0.
As more capabilities are added to Netweaver 7.0, they (NW components like PI, MI, Portal) are versioned and released as NW7.1.
SAP NetWeaver 7.2, the next platform release delivering innovations for all major technology capabilities, including SAP NW BW, SAP NW Portal, SAP NW PI, and SAP NW BPM.

New IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s
In May 2006 IBM System p brand and SAP announced the direction to enhance the IBM AIX 5L JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 2004s based applications. The new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver applications on AIX 5L is 100% upward compatible for all SAP business applications and, compared to the classical AIX JDK, provides a more consistent runtime behavior, enhances memory management, and improves debugging capabilities.
<b>General Availability (GA) of the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s on AIX 5L</b>
As part of a staged release process aligned between IBM and SAP a customer pilot program was started in August 2006 followed by a Controlled Availability (CA) program. Based on positive customer feedback resulting from real production usage and the very encouraging internal test results, the new IBM JDK on AIX 5L is/will be generally available
for SAP NetWeaver 2004 SP14 and above starting at 5th of February 2007
and
for SAP NetWeaver 2004s SP06 and above starting at 30th of March 2007.
This means systems running above SAP NetWeaver releases in an AIX 5L environment are allowed to use the new IBM JDK without restrictions.
This announcement does not affect the use and support of the classical AIX JDK outside SAP environments.
<b>Transition Plan to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 on AIX 5L</b>
SAP will support the classical and the new JDK in parallel for a limited number of NetWeaver support packages. Afterwards only the new IBM JDK will be supported:
for SAP NetWeaver 2004 the first support package only supporting the new JDK will be SP21 (planned date for SP21 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001130682005E),
for SAP NetWeaver 2004s it will be SP14 (planned date for SP14 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700004584092005E).
So please plan a transition to the new JDK prior to the upgrade to these support packages.
SAP and IBM strongly believe that the switch to the new JDK will improve your experience with JAVA based SAP applications on AIX 5L. Both companies recommend upgrading to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP applications running on AIX 5L as soon as it matches your companys maintenance plans. You can download the JDK directly from the sun java website...
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2_12/index.html
I don't think Ubuntu is supported...

Difference between 4.6 and 4.7 vesion in MM point of view
Hai,
can any body tell me the difference between 4.6 and 4.7 version. Please treat it as UrgentSAP BW 7.0 is called SAP BI and is one of the components of SAP NetWeaver 2004s. There are many differences between them in areas like extraction, EDW, reporting, analysis administration and so forth. For a detailed description, please refer to the documentation given on help.sap.com.
1. No Update rules or Transfer rules (Not mandatory in data flow)
2.Instead of update rules and Transfer rules new concept introduced called transformations.
3. New ODS introduced in additional to the Standard and transactional.
4. ODS is renamed as DataStore to meet with the global data warehousing standards.
And lot more changes in the functionalities of BEX query designer and WAD etc.
5. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
6. The Re-Modeling transaction helps you adding new key figures and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This facility is available only for info cube.
7. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
8. The monitoring has been improved with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in your project for implementing the portal !
9. Search functionality has improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
10. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yes, you can always revert to the old transactions too. -

Difference between BW3.5 and BI 7.0 version
difference between BW3.5 and BI 7.0 version
Hi ,
Differences between BW 3.5 and BI 7.0
Major Differences between Sap Bw 3.5 & sapBI 7.0 version:
1. In Infosets now you can include Infocubes as well.
2. The Remodeling transaction helps you add new key figure and characteristics and handles historical data as well without much hassle. This is only for info cube.
3. The BI accelerator (for now only for infocubes) helps in reducing query run time by almost a factor of 10 - 100. This BI accl is a separate box and would cost more. Vendors for these would be HP or IBM.
4. The monitoring has been imprvoed with a new portal based cockpit. Which means you would need to have an EP guy in ur project for implementing the portal !
5. Search functionality hass improved!! You can search any object. Not like 3.5
6. Transformations are in and routines are passe! Yess, you can always revert to the old transactions too.
7. The Data Warehousing Workbench replaces the Administrator Workbench.
8. Functional enhancements have been made for the DataStore object:
New type of DataStore object
Enhanced settings for performance optimization of DataStore objects.
9. The transformation replaces the transfer and update rules.
10. New authorization objects have been added
11. Remodeling of InfoProviders supports you in Information
Lifecycle Management.
12 The Data Source:
There is a new object concept for the Data Source.
Options for direct access to data have been enhanced.
From BI, remote activation of Data Sources is possible in SAP source systems.
13.There are functional changes to the Persistent Staging Area (PSA).
14.BI supports real-time data acquisition.
15 SAP BW is now known formally as BI (part of NetWeaver 2004s). It implements the Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW). The new features/ Major differences include:
a) Renamed ODS as DataStore.
b) Inclusion of Write-optmized DataStore which does not have any change log and the requests do need any activation
c) Unification of Transfer and Update rules
d) Introduction of "end routine" and "Expert Routine"
e) Push of XML data into BI system (into PSA) without Service API or Delta Queue
f) Intoduction of BI accelerator that significantly improves the performance.
g) Load through PSA has become a must. I am not too sure about this. It looks like we would not have the option to bypass the PSA Yes,
16. Load through PSA has become a mandatory. You can't skip this, and also there is no IDoc transfer method in BI 7.0. DTP (Data Transfer Process) replaced the Transfer and Update rules. Also in the Transformation now we can do "Start Routine, Expert Routine and End Routine". during data load.
New features in BI 7 compared to earlier versions:
i. New data flow capabilities such as Data Transfer Process (DTP), Real time data Acquisition (RDA).
ii. Enhanced and Graphical transformation capabilities such as Drag and Relate options.
iii. One level of Transformation. This replaces the Transfer Rules and Update Rules
iv. Performance optimization includes new BI Accelerator feature.
v. User management (includes new concept for analysis authorizations) for more flexible BI end user authorizations.
