Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA

Hi All....
can anyone explain me the *"Difference between Oracle 11i Apps DBA & Oracle Application server 10g DBA"*
Can Oracle 11i Apps DBA work in a Oracle Application server 10g DBA environment.
Regards,

Oracle Apps is a suite of financial applications.
Oracle Application server is Oracle's scaled up implementation of Apache or Weblogic or similar products.
While Oracle Apps might use Oracle Application Server as middleware, Oracle Apps is much, much more than Oracle Application Server.
An Oracle Apps DBA is primarily busy on the functional side, and with implementing an ongoing stream of patches ;)
The two functions have almost nothing in common.

  • Does Oracle Internet Directory come with Application Server 10g Release 3

I noticed Appserver 10g 10.1.3 does not have as many components as Appserver 10.1.2. It does not even come with Oracle Internet Directory. Do I need to install Appserver 10.1.2 first and then upgrade to Appserver 10.1.3?

Nope. Doesn't work that way. AS 10.1.3 is a different release...
Perhaps one way of seeing AS is as a family name for sets of application platform products or technology. The "core" of AS is OHS and OC4J + management, for many of the releases or product sets (i.e. not all of the AS family are or were based on OC4J). On top of that core, Oracle adds products depending on the release.
If you go from the Downloads menu -
You would see that (currently) 10.1.3.x or 10.1.3.1 ("for deployment" - See All) is e.g a SOA Suite release. It also has Service Registry, Data Integrator and WebCenter Suite.
AS 10.1.3.0.0 is a OC4J release, if I'm not mistaken, to include support for Java/JDK 5.
AS 10.1.4.0.1 is a Identity Management release.
If you are looking for other app server products such as Discoverer or Reports Services, the latest release that I know of is 10.1.2.0.2. If you have AS 10.1.2.0.x, you may upgrade the including products via a patch set to 10.1.2.2 or later. Portal and IM components in this release may be upgraded to 10.1.4.x.
Also note that AS patch sets might introduce some additional version number confusion.
Combining different releases into mid-tier and infrastructure services is possible, if you need to stay with the latest features (such as a setup with 10.1.2.x mid-tiers using 10.1.4 Identity management). See Upgrade and Installation guides for information and configuration rules.

  • Connecting to Oracle 8i.7 Database on Application Server 10g (10.1.2)

    Hi
    Dear All
i have gust installed Oracle Application Infrastructure & middle tire 10g(10.1.2)
    and i am asking
for the capability to connect (After Configuring Tnsname) to Oracle Database 8i(8.1.7.0.0)
the message after trying to connect is :
Connecting to This Version of database is no longer supported ..!
and please i want clarification note if we can't connect to give my officer so we can discuss the upgrade for database to 10g.
    Best Regards .
    Ibrahim.

Bug 3437884 - 10g client cannot connect to 8.1.7.0 - 8.1.7.3 server : if your Customer needs to stay on 8i, then the last available patch should be applied.
10.1.4 Client (the one used by AS 10.1.2) shouldn't have problems with 8.1.7.4 DB.

  • What difference between Oracle 9i AS and orion application server?

    Hi:
Today I visited some website and read an information that Oracle 9i AS and orion application server are two differece application server. But When I start Oracle 9i AS ,I must use command of "java -jar orion.jar".Are they the same application server? If not ,can you tell me what difference?
    Thanks
    Best regards,
    hyson

    Hi Liu,
I'm sure other people will coreect any errors I am about to make
(if I make any :-), but some time ago, Oracle mad a licensing
agreement with a company called IronFlare, regarding IronFlare's
application server product called OrionServer. After that, Oracle
came out with a new product -- Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J)
-- which is based on OrionServer. In the first version (that had
the version number 1.0.2.2), the application server basically came
bundled in the "orion.jar" file, so in order to start up the application
server, you used a command like:
    java -jar orion.jar
However, the next version of OC4J (with version number 9.0.2.0.0
[go figure ;-]), contained the "oc4j.jar" file (which replaced
    the "orion.jar" file).
So I would say that the first version of OC4J was almost identical
to OrionServer. But I think subsequent versions are becoming more
and more different. Remember that at the same time, OrionServer
is also still being developed. I think the first version of OC4J
was based on version 1.5.2 of OrionServer. The next version of
OrionServer (that should be released soon) is version 1.6.0.
I have no idea how similar the latest version of OrionServer is
to the latest version of OC4J. But if Oracle's history is any
guide, then I would say that, eventually, OC4J and OrionServer
will have very little similarity between them. Just look at the
paths that Oracle's JDeveloper has taken in comparison with Borland's
JBuilder. Originally, JDeveloper was based on JBuilder. Today,
they are two completely different products.
    Hope this has helped you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database

Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database
    please give the comments

Well, the question is almost philosophic...<br>
In 9i, there is a Migration Guide whereas in 10g there is a Upgrade Guide.<br>
Furthermore, in 9i, there is the command line startup migrate whereas in 10g that's startup upgrade.
Somebody think upgrade when go to new release, and migration when go to new version.<br>
Others think upgrade when new version replace database in place, and migration when new version include a move of database.<br>
Another point of view is : upgrade is for technical, and migration for application/data.<br>
    <br>
Well, after these explanations, your upgrade/migratation notion will not be more clear, but I think that is not very important, only a terminology game. The most important is to know what you need : new version or new release.<br>

your problem is not very unusual... I also faced the similar situation cpl of times when Oracle was not able to continue the installation coz the Immediate Shutdown was failed. Actually During the installation, Oracle mounts/opens the database and shuts it down many times and few times, Oracle is unable to shutdown cleanly as some process is hanging or not responding.
Piece of advise is that always use staging area to install Apps as it takes long time on Win2K (anything between 4-12 hrs) to install it and CDROM Access is lot slower than HDD. Also, it will prompt u every time to insert tbe CD. All this hassle can be bypassed by using the staging area. Read the Installation help document on how to create it.
For failure reasons, look in ur installation log file which is created in the default Temp folder usually C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for WinXP or C:\winnt\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for Win2K.
post or email me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further help/details.

ThanksIt seems that you are posting alot of such questions, here is one thread of the same nature.
What are the differences between the following Oracle database views?
Please search in the oracle docs to find the information and if you have read it already, please post your doubts about it. It would help you in a better way to understand things and also would make you corrected where you would be wrong.

  • Diff between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

Can any one brief in detail the difference between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

    Hi,
Your question is the answer. Oracle9i Database manages all your eBusiness data and Oracle9iAS runs all your eBusiness
applications. In a 3 tier architecture, Oracle9i Database fits in the Database tier where as Oracle9iAS fits in the middle
tier. Oracle9iAS provides an infrastructure to run different types of applications(J2EE thru OC4J, Forms applns, Portal
    based applns, Wireless applns etc..)
    Cheers !

  • What is the differences between the older version of Oracle Financials and the 11 i

What is the differences between the older version of Oracle Financials and 11i?

Vijay,Thanks for your answer, but I am still not clear about it,I have a instance to describe my question at detail.
If there is a final product A, and the planning strategy for A is 20(MTO), the procurement type of A is F(external procurement) at the view mrp2 in the material master datas.
    step1: I creat a sales order.
    step2: run MRP for A.
step3: transfer the purchase requistion into a purchase order, and the field of acc.***.cat. in the purchase order will be filled out M automatically, because the acc.***.cat. in the planning strategy 20(MTO) is set with E.
Well, the purchase order is created, what is the relationship between the sales order and the purchase order? What will be happened about costing between the SO and the PO?
If I delete the E, I make the PO become a standard PO, what is difference between standard PO and the PO including E?

  • Accessing Oracle 11i  apps through Pocket PC

Normally for any windows client to connect to the Oracle Server we add a entry into the client host file i.e. windows\system32\drivers\etc\host . Once we add the entry we are able to access the Oracle Application.
From a Pocket PC 2002 how do I access the oracle 11i apps ?

Is this possible by enabling wireless server and accessing directly through jsp pages?

  • Difference between instant client and full oracle client

    Everyone,
I had read the below lines from a goldengate pdf. Someone please explain me what is the difference between instant client and full oracle client?
What is the use of XDK libraries.?
" The full Oracle client must be used with GoldenGate so that the GoldenGate programs
have access to the Oracle XDK libraries. Do not use Oracle Instant Client, which lacks
those libraries. You can download the full client from Oracle’s website."
    Regards,
    SAKTHi

    The dealio is this:
When you install client software, you have several options as to the degree of what you get/install. The big chicken dinner is administrator, so you get all kinds of extra features, add-ons, libraries, utilities, etc. At the hard candy Christmas end is instant client, and that has just enough functionality to, as you may surmise by now, connect a client and that's about it. Various libraries have functionality built in to do whatever extra is required. An example is FAN, or fast application notification, used in Data Guard failover. A FAN API (Java) will detect a failover and re-direct a client connection to the new primary. What GG uses XDK for (specifically) isn't of importance to a user, just the fact that it is available for connecting to Oracle is.

  • Terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g

I'm looking for some articles/books/webinars/blogs which discuss the terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g in terms of database concepts. I have found this article http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/SQL+Server/67007 so far.
    Thanks.

Thanks sb92075. Those returned results are almost all related to compare the features/functionalities between MSSQL and Oracle not to distinguish the terminology differences between them.

  • Oracle application server 10g and fusion middleware 11

    Hi
I am confused about architecture of application server 10g and oracle fusion middleware.
I have installed oracle application server 10g that includes infrastructure tier ( database repository,SSO,OID,DAS,OCA) and mid tier (OC4j,forms,reports,discover,portal,wireless). Here I have totally understood the architecture of 10g application server and Installation method and sequence.
But I could not understand oracle fusion middle ware architecture and components compared to 10g application server.
Now I want to install the oracle fusion middle ware same as 10g application server keep in mind.
can anybody give me high level view of oracle fusion middle ware and it's component? and also difference between 10g app server and fusion.
how can I achieve same thing that i implemented in 10g app server with fusion?
If somebody have architecture diagram of both 10g app server and fusion that will also help me.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

Take a look at Page 2-1 of the
    Oracle Fusion Middleware

  • Differences between OA 11i and R12 on User Management

    Hi All,
Please give some details about differences between OA 11i and R12 on User Management (Role Responsibilities and Role Based Access Control, etc).
Please advise me on this regard.
Moreover,I don't have any Metalink username and Password.
    Thanks

New features introduced for User Management (UMX) in R12
The following are the new features introduced in R12 for User Management (UMX):
    1)Proxy User:
    This new functionality:
    · Provides the delegator the ability to grant/revoke the proxy privilege to individuals
    · Provide a mechanism throughout the application’s framework where the user can access the proxy switcher feature
    · Provide a mechanism throughout the application’s framework which indicates to the user that they are acting as a proxy
    · Provide the ability to track the delegate’s actions within the system, while the delegate is acting on behalf of the delegator (Audit)
    Benefits of Proxy User:
Ability to delegate proxy authority provides great security controls and Granular control of proxy authority is provided i.e delegate authority can be specified for date ranges
    2) ICM (Separation of Duties – SoD) Integration
Oracle User Management is integrated with Oracle Internal Controls Manager (ICM) for the prevention, detection, enforcement, and resolution of separation-of-duties constraints during the assignment of roles by administrators to users.
For example, a constraint (created using a set of ICM UIs) can be defined such that no user is allowed to have "Role A" and "Role B" at the same time. In such a case, anadministrator attempting to assign Role B to a user who already has Role A will be presented with a dialog page displaying the constraint violation information.
At this point, the administrator can take one of two actions:
    • Go back to the role assignment page and remove the assignment that is causing the
    violation.
    • Override the constraint violation, if he has the "AMW: Allow SOD Violation
    Override" permission granted to him.
With this permission, the administrator will see Apply and Cancel buttons on the constraint violation dialog page. Clicking Apply will override the constraint, and assign Role B to the user despite the warning. Clicking Cancel will cancel the save operation without granting Role B to the user.
UMX integration with ICM is enabled according to the setting of site-level profile option "UMX: Enable ICM Validation". The default value is "Yes".
    3) Enhanced Forget Username/Password Functionality
Forgot Username Functionality is Introduced in R12 along with Forgot Password. So now Users can query on either lost “username” or lost “password” Users should enter email address if lost username and enter username if lost password
Users can now aslo reset username as part of email address verification instead of a two step process.
4)New Registration Process Type for Administrator Role Assignment
New Registration Process Type is introduced for type “Administrator Assisted Additional Access”
Different policies (registration processes) can be used as administrative actions vs. self service requests for
    · Approval Routing
    · UI
    · Notifications
    · Business Logic
Simpler registration processes can be created for self-service and administrator flavors
Support for alternative approvals for administrator role assignment is also introduced.
    5) Security Wizard Infrastructure
    a)Security Wizard Infrastructure
    · Infrastructure for product teams to create their own security wizards in context of a role.
    · Product teams can create their wizards and seed relevant information
    · These wizards appear in list of security wizards available to the administrator when creating/updating role information
b)New User Interface for Delegated Administration
    · Existing functionality(11.5.10) of delegated administration setup implemented using wizard infrastructure
    · Wizard guides the user through what options they can set for a delegated administration
    6) Search Enhancement for List of Value’s (LOV)
Search Enhancements has been made in LOV’s in User management.
    a) All LOVs in User Management (UMX) are now searchable by
    · Role
    · Responsibility
    · Both
    · Internal Code
b)A type included in the results – to differentiate roles and responsibilities
