Difference between oracle Developer suit and Oracle Application Server???

Dear all,,
If any one please tell me the main difference between Developer Suit and Oracle Application Server.
I will be very thank ful.
Thank you
Hina.

Hi Hina
can i deploy my application build on oracle 10g using developer suite with db10g and I don't use application server? For individual use and development yes u can using oracle Developer suit after starting OC4J
but for client use for more than x user to be able to run reports using parameter forms and other forms application u must use Oracle Application Server
An application server is
a server program in a computer in a distributed network that provides the business logic for an application program.
The application server is frequently viewed as part of a three-tier application, consisting of a graphical user interface (GUI) server, an application (business logic) server, and a database and transaction server.
More descriptively, it can be viewed as dividing an application into:
--- A first-tier, front-end, Web browser-based---
1.graphical user interface, usually at a personal computer or workstation
2.A middle-tier business logic application or set of applications, possibly on a local area network or intranet server
3.A third-tier, back-end, database and transaction server, sometimes on a mainframe or large server
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Amatu Allah

  • What difference between Oracle 9i AS and orion application server?

    Hi:
Today I visited some website and read an information that Oracle 9i AS and orion application server are two differece application server. But When I start Oracle 9i AS ,I must use command of "java -jar orion.jar".Are they the same application server? If not ,can you tell me what difference?
    Thanks
    Best regards,
    hyson

    Hi Liu,
I'm sure other people will coreect any errors I am about to make
(if I make any :-), but some time ago, Oracle mad a licensing
agreement with a company called IronFlare, regarding IronFlare's
application server product called OrionServer. After that, Oracle
came out with a new product -- Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J)
-- which is based on OrionServer. In the first version (that had
the version number 1.0.2.2), the application server basically came
bundled in the "orion.jar" file, so in order to start up the application
server, you used a command like:
    java -jar orion.jar
However, the next version of OC4J (with version number 9.0.2.0.0
[go figure ;-]), contained the "oc4j.jar" file (which replaced
    the "orion.jar" file).
So I would say that the first version of OC4J was almost identical
to OrionServer. But I think subsequent versions are becoming more
and more different. Remember that at the same time, OrionServer
is also still being developed. I think the first version of OC4J
was based on version 1.5.2 of OrionServer. The next version of
OrionServer (that should be released soon) is version 1.6.0.
I have no idea how similar the latest version of OrionServer is
to the latest version of OC4J. But if Oracle's history is any
guide, then I would say that, eventually, OC4J and OrionServer
will have very little similarity between them. Just look at the
paths that Oracle's JDeveloper has taken in comparison with Borland's
JBuilder. Originally, JDeveloper was based on JBuilder. Today,
they are two completely different products.
    Hope this has helped you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Diff between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

Can any one brief in detail the difference between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

    Hi,
Your question is the answer. Oracle9i Database manages all your eBusiness data and Oracle9iAS runs all your eBusiness
applications. In a 3 tier architecture, Oracle9i Database fits in the Database tier where as Oracle9iAS fits in the middle
tier. Oracle9iAS provides an infrastructure to run different types of applications(J2EE thru OC4J, Forms applns, Portal
    based applns, Wireless applns etc..)
    Cheers !

  • Terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g

I'm looking for some articles/books/webinars/blogs which discuss the terminology differences between MSSQL 2005/2008 and Oracle 11g in terms of database concepts. I have found this article http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/SQL+Server/67007 so far.
    Thanks.

Thanks sb92075. Those returned results are almost all related to compare the features/functionalities between MSSQL and Oracle not to distinguish the terminology differences between them.

  • I want to create an app.  Can you tell me the difference between iOS developer program and the mac developer program?

I want to create an app.  Can you tell me the difference between iOS developer program and the mac developer program?
Is the difference the device you're creating your app on, or for?

iOS Developer Program is only for those who wish to develop iDevice apps. Mac program is for those only developing Mac applications. If you wish to do both, then you need to enroll in both programs.

  • Developer Suit 10g As Application Server

Can i use 10g Developer Suit as my application server?
i mean installing developer suit 10g and keeping oc4j running and report services running on my server machine serve the purpose of an application server?
i have tried installing and configuring report services on 10g Application Server after getting tired i am planning to do this.
    Thanx in advance

Developer suite can not be officially used as production server since it is light weight . It may not handle the load. If it is for limited number of users
    go for it.

  • Difference between Avg. Performance and Avg. Server Time

When you go to the Create Reports in the Graph 1 tab, if you have Show All checked a lot of different statistics are shown per script. I don't really know the meaning for most of the items in the list. For this thread,
Do you know what is the difference between Avg. Performance and Avg. Server Time?

Avg Performance includes think time, server time does not. (As we understand it)

  • Compatibility between Oracle Developer suit and application server

    Hello
We are going to user oracle 10 to develop and deploy our application.
The tool that we were going to use are
    Developer Suite 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) and
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.2.0)
But i need to know whether this are compatible
Where can I find any documentation related to compatibilities between developer suit and application server ?
    May thanks in advance

    Hi Ana,
    Compatible version of IAS is
    10g Release 2 (10.1.2) or 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) with patch 1(10.1.2.1.0)
Also if u are using only forms and reports services there is a forms and reports standalone version is available. And hence u dont need to install infrastructre.
And this is a very compact product.
Even if you use forms 9i /developer suite 9i to develop the forms, when u compile them on IAS, it gets upgraded. There is not much diff between forms 9i and 10g

  • Do Oracle Developer Suite contains Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?

    Dear All,
I am having Oracle Developer Suite 10g.
Using that i can design and test Oracle reports.
Then do i need Oracle Application Server with Forms and Reports to deploy it?
Do Developer Suite contains Application Server with Forms and Reports?
How to test whether the report will run inside an application server?
If i am having Developer Suite and still do i need to install Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?
    DO revert.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Sameer

    Hi Sameer,
Q1 Iam having Oracle Developer Suite 10g.
Using that i can design and test Oracle reports.
Then do i need Oracle Application Server with Forms and Reports to deploy it?
Yes you need Oracle Application Server to deploy forms /reports.There are 2 types . One containing only forms and reports services
Two containing forms, reports services, portal and many
    other product services.
So if you want to deploy only forms and reports then choose the first one
Q2 Do Developer Suite contains Application Server with Forms and Reports?
No. It contains a light component called OC4j. With this u can test the forms and reports in browser
Q3How to test whether the report will run inside an application server?
If you test it with developer suite, it should run fine with AS
Q4 If i am having Developer Suite and still do i need to install Oracle AS with Forms and Reports?
Pls note that Developer suite doesnt have any AS. And it has a light weight OC4J which is only for testing purpose. So u need to have AS for the deployment.

    Hello Kalyan,
    A couple questions:
    1. Once you installed the 11G database, you did start the database services, yes?
    2. Do you have a properly configured TNSNAMES.ORA file that points to your database?
    3. You created a database that you are using and can access the database via SQLPlus?
    Don.

  • Install Oracle 11i Suite and Oracle 10g on same Server

    Hi
We are an Educational firm planning to launching Oracle 11i and 10g.
Can I install both the Oracle 11i E-Business Suite and Oracle 10g on the same Server? If it can What is best configuration for the Server that can I bought?
    provide Configuration too.
    thanks

"However, I do not suggest any windows platform for 11i as that is not so good os for 11i. You may either go far unix or linux" - 140042
That's absolutely right. It is better to have at least two linux/unix machines:
    # 1 machine for application server - admin, web, form, concurrent services
    # 2 machine for DB server
If you want, you may integrate Oracle apps 11.5.10 (on #1 and # machines) with OracleAS 10g (# machine).

  • Oracle Dev Suite and Oracle DB Server on same machine

I have Oracle 10g database server already installed.
Now I want to install Oracle Development Suite 10g on the same machine.
Should they be installed in the same or separate Oracle home?
Is their anything I need to be aware of when installing?
    Thanks!

Install the Developer Suite in its own Oracle Home.
Think to adapt the tnsnames.ora file of the Dev Suite path to connect Forms/Reports to your database.

  • What is the difference between OSX 10.6 and 10.6 server? I need to install Snow Leopard in a Parallels VM and it only allows 10.6 server. Will Rosetta work if I use the server edition?

I MUST use an app that was discontinued which requires Rosetta, yet I also want to upgrade to Mavericks. I was told that Parallels and VMWare Fusion both support running Snow Leopard SERVER, but not Snow Leopard. Two questions: Will Rosetta run on Snow Leopard Server when it is running inside the Parallels/Fusion/whatever virtual machine which is running under Mavericks? The second question is: Is there any problem with running any specific software in Snow Leopard Server when it is set up this way?

    Richard Cartledge wrote:
The problem with client as virtualised OS is the Apple EULA, not a technical one.
I don't know if it works, or you're just not meant to do it.
PS. If you download or have Snow Leopard DVD, you can install Rosetta in later OSs, certainly Lion and Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
insert your Snow Leopard disc, open the Optional Installs folder on that disc, and double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg package. The Installer will open and you’ll be prompted to click Continue a couple of times and then choose a destination for the installation. Choose your startup volume and click Continue yet again.
In the Custom Install on “nameofvolume” window that appears, enable the Rosetta option and click Continue. In the next window click Install to do just that.
NB/ I don't have any old software to test to see if it actually makes it work!
    WRONG TWICE!
Bad idea to attempt to install Rosetta into Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks and good luck trying to remove it after that attempt.  Result: NO powerpc app will run after that installation and you will have to complete a wipe of your hard drive and a complete pre-Rosetta install to get rid of Rosetta!
It was a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA prohibited its virtualization in Lion or Mt. Lion on a Mac.  That myth has been largely debunked over the last two years.
In addition, Apple's release of Snow Leopard Server at a 95% discount ($20) has rendered the issue largely moot!
OP: what application are we talking about here?
For example here is the long beloved powerpc application Appleworks running in Snow Leopard Server installed in Parallels for use in a post Lion world:
