  • Difference between patch and upgrade

    hi,
i need to know the exact difference between the patch that is available online and the upgradation of oracle. there is a patch 14 available for oracle 11.5.9 available. what does it do. is it similar to upgrading the oracle installation to a higher version.
please reply as soon as possible.
    thank you in advance.

Would you please elaborate more. What do you mean by the patch this is available only? What is patch 14?
If you are running on 11.5.9 and want to upgrade to 11.5.10.2, then you need to apply 11.5.10.2 maintenance pack. Maintenance pack is a consolidation of all the mini packs for all products and all the family packs for the entire oracle applications.
Have a look at the following link for Oracle Applications Patch Types:

  • Difference between service pack and Patch in XI

What is the difference between Service Pack(SP) AND Patch ??
    e.g SP12, Patch8.
Is it like that when there is a major change they will issue SP and
for a small change they will issue patch ?? or after number of patches
they will issue SP combining all the patches ??
Service Pack level can be seen from SAP gui system..>status.
But Patch level where can we see ?? what is the Tcode for that ?? or just we got

    Hello,
A service pack (in short SP) is a collection of updates, fixes and/or enhancements to a software program delivered in the form of a single installable package. Service packs are usually numbered, and thus shortly referred to as SP1, SP2, etc. It is notable that they may bring, besides bug fixes, entirely new features
A patch (sometimes called a "fix") is a quick-repair job for a piece of programming. During a software product's beta test distribution or try-out period and later after the product is formally released, problems (called bug) will almost invariably be found. A patch is the immediate solution that is provided to users; it can sometimes be downloaded from the software maker's Web site. The patch is not necessarily the best solution for the problem and the product developers often find a better solution to provide when they package the product for its next release.

  • How to find outthe difference between the two serivce patch of Netweaver04s

    Hi,
We have installed NetWeaver04s with sp13 patch. We want to upgrade this to latest patch avaiable on sap market place. I could see sp22 is the latest patch. I know all the procedure to download the patch. But before downloading I have to find out the difference between the latest patch available i.e. SP22 and the current patch installed i.e. SP13.
Could anybody guide me how to see the difference between any two patches avaiable on the SAP market place?
Let me know if you need more information on this.
    --Chandan

    Hi
For single patch info, if you click the INFO link in window from where you download the patch. You will get the information related to that patch.
    eg
    SAPJEE05_0-10003469.SCA SP05 for SAP J2EE Engine 7.00  0 Info 53976 14.12.2005
Try out this, can help you (some navigation required)
    http://service.sap.com/sp-stack
    Select your Product:
Select Source and Target Release and Componenets. Click Next
    Navigate under "Additional Information"
    eg:
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Support Package Stacks
can be found on the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) Support Package Stacks Info-Pages for each available Support Package Stack
In the next window; again navigate further: you can find like this
New functionality available with the relevant SP Stack is described in Section "Release Notes" as part of the SAP Library. Please refer to SAP Help Portal -> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 -> Release Notes. Each scenario folder contains the new functionality available for each SP Stack.
    eg.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/5b/8c3842bb58f83ae10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
This would give you information of changes in different releases.

  • Differences between PSUs and traditional CPU patches

Hi, this is Eric Maurice, Director Oracle Software Security Assurance. In the past, I have been getting a number of questions about the differences between the Patch Set Updates (PSUs) and traditional Critical Patch Update (CPU) patches.
On August 11th at 11:00AM Pacific / 2:00PM Eastern, the Independent Oracle User Group (IOUG) will host a webcast on Database Server security patching featuring two speakers from Oracle: Bruce Lowenthal, Director for Security Alerts, and Lois Price, Director for Product Lifecycle Services.
The purpose of this technical webcast is to discuss the various aspects of the Critical Patch Update (CPU) program, which are specific to Oracle Database Server. The speakers will spend a significant portion of the webcast discussing the differences between the Patch Set Update (PSU) and traditional CPU patches. An overview of the CPU program will also be provided, and ample time will be set aside for a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

  • Difference between different types of patches

    Hi all
I want to know difference between the database upgrade patchset, cpu,
psu, one off patches and what are the methods of deploying these patches?

    Hi,
I want to know difference between the database upgrade patchset, cpu, psu, one off patches and what are the methods of deploying these patches?Refer thread for PUS and CPU:
    Difference b/w CPU  and PSU
usually *One-off  patches are single  small size patch used for fixing an existing bug.
PSU and CPU are consolidated of one-off patches, for more information refer thread mentioned above.
These are installed using Opatch utility
Patchests are certainly big in size and most of the bugfixes and new features are included within this, and will upgrade your patchset version.
suppose you Installed patchset 10.2.0.5 on 10.2.0.1 then your database will be upgraded to version *10.2.0.5*.
These patchsets are Installed using OUI
    hope help :)

  • What is the difference between cluster patch and bundle patch

    hi every one
can any one please tell me the difference between cluster patch and bundle patch ... for what purpose we apply cluster patch and bundled patch

There is no inherent difference between a patch cluster and a patch bundle that I am aware of.
Its just a name for collections of patches.
For whatever reason, the regular collections of recommended patches that sun puts out happen to be referred to as the recommended patch cluster.
The "all patches to bring you up to 5/08" that sun is putting out happens to be being called the 5/08 patch bundle.
I don't think they meant anything by the distinction. But thats the first time the term "patch bundle" has been used that I'm aware of.
So maybe there is some new patch delivery/installation technology implied. But I doubt it.

  • Difference between Maintenance update and recommended patches.

    Hello
What is the difference between "Maintenance Update" and "Recommended patches" ?
Can we install the OS from the distribution, then install the recommended patches and have a decent system. Or we do need to install the maintenance update before the recommended patches ?

    Hi,
What do you mean of Manual Update.
Simulation means , it will not upload into the data to the datatarget,It just explore you about how the system goes through update rules,Transfer rules .
real upload/Update manually means the data will reach the datatarget and sits there with out explore you about how the system goes through update rules,Transfer rules .

  • What is the difference between quarterly patches and patch sets

    Hello,
What is the difference between quarterly patches and patch sets?
Should we always apply the latest quarterly pathches?
Is it better to apply to the latest patch set if one can afford?

The quarterly patch sets are generally security fixes, or Critical Patch Updates (CPU). Oracle strongly recommends that the CPU patches are applied. CPU and quarterly patches do not change the release/version of the database.
The patch sets contain bug fixes and do change the release/version of the database.
As with all patches you should test them on a test database before deploying in production. If you have vendor supported applications you should contact your vendor before applying any patchsets.

  • Difference between New Archieve and New Patch

    Hi,
I am going through import and export topics of LCA files (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/workbenchHelp/help.htm?content=000276.html ). I understood how we can create new Archieves and import it to another environments. But I am not able to understand about patches.
In both the cases, I am doing the same thing. I am creating archieve of the application. I am sure, there would be difference between "new archive" and "Patch" but not able to figure out.
Can anyone let me know if I create new archieve and Patch, then what is the visual differences i can look in both the archieves??????
    Regards
    Sunil

patching is related to component of LiveCycle.
these are  basically jar files updated with new one. For more please look here.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/workbenchHelp/help.htm?content=000960.html
LCA files are simply archive file of the processes/application that you create in workbench. These archive files can be import to other environment  at later stage.

  • Difference between admin directory and patch directory ?

What the difference between $<PRODUCT_TOP>/admin/sql and $<PRODUCT_TOP>/patch/115/sql
I have looked at a number of packages on my system and they appear to be built from its *.pls located in my $<PRODUCT_TOP>/patch/115/sql directory
However there normally is also a file of the same name in $<PRODUCT_TOP>/admin/sql, though usually it has a different version number ( in my case I have found some files in her that have a version number that is greater than what is in the patch/115/sql directory )
    thanks,
    Jim

My understanding is that the Product admin directory is used by Auto Upgrade as part of an upgrade ?Correct.
    Q. Since Auto Upgrade is involved, I presume this means an upgrade say from 11i to R12 ( formerly what was called a migration ) rather than what would be a Release Update Pack ( i.e. formerly a Maintenance Release ) eg 11.5.10.2 ?I would say it is applicable for all the patches that update APPL_TOP, so it is applicable to RUP and Maintenance Pack patches but not an upgrade from 11i to R12 as a new APPL_TOP is created in this case (unless you are referring to the new APPL_TOP).
    Q. Does the product_top patch directory hold the files transferred in by adpatch ? Yes.
If so does it only hold the latest version supplied by the various patches applied to this product top ?Yes.
    Q. Why would the product_top admin directory hold files with version numbers higher than what is in the product_top patch ?Can you give an example for this?
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • What is difference between Startup upgrade and startup migration.

what is difference between Startup upgrade and startup migration.

I am having the metalink note.
STARTUP MIGRATE was introduced in 9.2 as a mechanism to be sure that most everything that needs to be done to run an upgrade script or a patch script is done automatically. In the past, customers were expected to adjust certain initialization parameters prior to beginning an upgrade or applying a a patch,
but most of this is now done automatically by STARTUP MIGRATE.
When a customer starts a database in MIGRATE mode, the following ALTER SYSTEM
    commands will be set automatically:
But i am not sure what exactly the meaning by startup upgrade.
and exactly the startup upgrade and startup migrate
