Difference between serial & ethernet interface.

Hi every one,
i have some doubts in basic stuffs.
Q1: What are the differences between serial interface and ethernet interfaces.
Q2: Can we use ethernet interfaces to terminate WAN connectivity just like serial. Why always we are using serial interfaces to connect the WAN.
Please help me out by answering these questions.
!!!!THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

Hi There,
   Good explanation by Navin.
On top of that, Serials are by nature flexible and it can be comfortably devided like per customer or provider needs from T1 or E1 connection.
So the Bandwidth allowed to have physical pipe can be clearly configured and adjusted because of TDM structure each T1 or E1 is multiples of 64 kbps slots ( example :- 64 x 32 fpr E1 which 2048 Kbps or 2 Mb circuit) same follow for T1. This is good to have exactly what we run when designing Layer 3 Routing, so Routing protocols can take Routing decisions based on Bandwidth provisioned automatically or adjust with Policy based Routing.
When it comes to FastEthernet the original build was for LAN connectivity. Of course we can use for MAN or WAN because of multilayer aware of transmissions capability is already rocking in Market. Because of Switching and Routing enhancements ( merge ) and many devices are aware of Layer 2 to 7 traffic patterns in many vendors. So it is difficult to clearly define the scope for these two types these days.
Hope you got some clarification !
   Happy Reading

  • BTE - Difference between P/S interface & Process Interface

    Hi
Two interfaces are mentioned in the BTE concept.
    1. Publish and Subscribe Interface
    2. Process Interface
What exactly mean these interfaces are ?
What is difference between these two interfaces?
I read an article posted by Lakshman Tandra - but i did't understand the exact meaning & purpose and also the difference between the two interfaces.
    Surely, points will be awarded
    VVR

    Hello Ramana,
The difference between the two is like this:
    - Publish and Subscribe Interface
Means the Event FM only provides the Document number or anything that is coming in the FM Import interface in order to trigger some other external process. You have no vontrol on changing SAP code from this FM. You can just use that info and do additional tasks outside of that SAP process
    - Process Interface
Means that Event FM provides both Import and changing parameters which allows you to take control of the process and influence what the changing parameters values are going to be used once the control returns back from this FM back to its caller.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a difference between the Ethernet WAN port and the other 3 Ethernet Ports on a Time Capsule?

As posted previously, my time capsule will not set up properly because I get an IP address conflict pop up window.  Is there a difference between the "Ethernet WAN Port" and the other three ports on the back of the Time Capsule?  I may have the DSL modem hooked into the "Ethernet WAN Port".  Thanks.

it depends what you want to achieve and what configuration you have on your DSL modem/router.

  • What is the difference between Serial numbers and Batch management.

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone explain the difference between Serial Number and Batch Management in breif.
    Regards
    Ravi

    Hi,
Serial number management and batch management are different functions that can be
used in conjunction with each other.
    A batch represents a non-reproducible subset
of the total quantity of a material held in stock, which is managed separately from
other subsets of the same material.
    For Example  Different production lots
(for example, paints, wallpapers, pharmaceutical products), delivery lots or quality
    grades of a material.
whereas a serial number is a number that you give to an individual item of material in addition
to the material number, in order to differentiate between this individual piece and all
other items of the material. The combination of material number and serial number
is unique. It is not necessary to use the batch management function to use serial
    number management.

  • What is the difference between conversion and interface?

what is the difference between conversion and interface?

Conversion: The legacy system may have a different representation for the data, from that of SAP. A conversion program basically aims at converting the data into a format that is acceptable for SAP.
Whereas an interface does the actual upload of the data into the SAP system through various means.

  • Difference between PI/XI interface and ABAP interface

    Hello Experts,
We are in the process of identifying interfaces for our current client. I am looking for some documentation or any specific information that will help me to differentiate between SAP PI interface and ABAP Interface. Basically I want to know what are the advantages of PI interface over ABAP interface. What is better? and why?
Any information would be of great help. Thanks.

PI (versus point to point ABAP) advantages are:
    1)     Centralized control over data security
    2)     More effective (centralized) interface failure monitoring and resolution
    3)     Elimination of redundant development and maintenance costs

  • What's the difference between the 2 activex server interface types

    Hi,
i have a problem with a LabView ActiveX-Server i wrote. This is a little test application with 2 ActiveX-Servers and a VC++ Application. The first server opens the serial resource and sends it as variant to VC. VC sends the variant then back to the second server where i want to communicate with a serial device. When i access the second server through the LabView.Application interface everything is fine. But when i'm trying to access the exe directly with [VI-Name].vi (i think this is called run interface) i get an error that my resource for the serial interface is not correct.
Want is the difference between the two interface types and how can i solve the problem?
    Thanks

The path of a main VI changes after it is compiled into executable. For example, the original VI is at
    c:\temp\test\main.vi,
after building it into executable (say the executable directory is exe), the path to main.vi then changes to
    c:\temp\test\exe\main.exe\main.vi
Sometimes in order to correctly reference some relative information, the "main.exe" need to be removed from the path. If you are accessing main.vi at development time, then the correct path should be the longer one during runtime.

    HI Goutham,
Serial Number: is nothing but normal numbering to uniquely identify every single piece of product.
Say in mobile industry every mobile has unique IMSI number that can be thought of as its serial number.
Given a serial number you can pin point the particular piece of product.
    Batch Number:
Is Nothing but combining the products produced under certain conditions in a batch.
For Example in Oil industry if we talk about 2T oil etc the viscosity, Density etc are quite important.
Now due to slight variations in production the Viscosity Density would not be exactly same for 2 different lots.
So we maintain Batch where we put classification Criteria in Classification view in Material Master.
If the criteria are for example Viscosity and density
    Batch1 could be Viscosity=100 density=10
    Batch2 Could be Viscosity=110.5 Density=9.71
So while selling by knowing Batch number we can tell the customer about the properties.
Also you would have heard about recall of all the vehicles of Batch so and so from toyota.
Recently Nokia called off all the Batteries BL-5C batteries of a batch.
The reason is they were all manufactured at one time and hence since one of them had that error all would have had the same. So the whole batch can be recalled.

  • Difference between ULTRA ATA and SERIAL ATA

    Hello,
What is the difference between ULTRA ATA and SERIAL ATA ?? Is the connector different for each type ?? Thanks in advance.
    Robert Lespérance

Was wondering why you are considering a ATA drive? The iMac G5 als has a serial ata drive already.
If you are considering an external drive, then you have a problem. The most important thing there is that you get a drive with firewire interface because I think they are the fastest, but USB is an ok choice. If there is an external firewire drive that also uses a serial ATA drive inside of it, then that would be an excellent choice for speed. USB or Firewire are standards for connecting a peripherial to you Mac. An external drive will probably have a very common, read Mactor, WD, Seagate, ATA drive in it. The external drive case has a interface inside of it which allows USB or Firewire to speak with the ATA drive, any flavor. Some people just purchase a powered external 3 1/2 case and install the hd they like the best, that is the nice thing about standards.
I think serial ATA will pretty much spell the end of all of the older ATA drives. The serial drives are actually very competitive in price now and faster.
Suggest you go to Western Digital, Maxtor, and/or Seagate's web sites to learn what drives they offer.

  • What is difference between using interface as source and table as source?

I am working on a batch flow which need several steps to populate data from source to target. For example, I need 5 interfaces to finish final data loading. I can either use interface or use temporary table as source and target for the interface 2, 3, and 4. It looks like both case will use tables no matter use interface or use temporary table. So my question is if there is any difference between these two (using interface as source or use temporary table as source)?
    Thanks

if you use a Table as source for the intermediate process, it will create a physical temporary table i your work rep(depends on you choice) and populate the data into the table. if you use a interface as a source, just it will create a sub query instead of temporary table.
    Thanks
