Difference between Transaction.rollback() and Transaction.setRollBackOnly()

Hi,
I wanted to know the difference between what typical implementations of Transaction.rollback() and Transaction.setRollbackOnly().
I have used setRollbackOnly()? in distributed transaction scenarios. How is it different from rollback()?
Thanks
Shailesh

I would really recommend posting this question in a forum where somebody might understand what you are talking about. This is the XML forum.

  • Difference between master data and transactional data

Hi experts i have just started learning BW can u plz let me know the difference between Master data and Transactional data in bw ? and why is master data is first loaded before the transactional data ? thanks .....

    Hi
Transaction data represents any transaction occured between two parties like Customer and Vendor.
We maintain id's to maintain the Customer and Vendor.
When we look at the id we don't have a clue like who is the customer, where does he live,,....
So all this info is maintained in Master data in three categories:
    1. Attributes
    2. Text
    3. Hierarchies.
Collection of Attribute, Texts and Hierarchies is called master Data in BI/BW.
    Eg: 0MATERIAL, 0CUSTOMER,,,,,
Master data: is data that remains unchanged over a long period of time. Master data contains information that is always needed in the same way. Characteristics can bear master data in BW. With master data you are dealing with attributes, texts or hierarchies.

Master Data is one form of the historical data. There is no frequent changes in the data.Every application has it's own Master Data.
In BI the master Data has been divided into
    Characterstics
    Texts
    Hierarchies
We can load Master Data through different ways.

  • Difference between table CKMLKEPH and transaction figure of CKM3

    Hi Gurus,
Having an issue in material ledger transaction and table data.
There is a difference between table CKMLKEPH and transaction figure of CKM3 for couple of periods.
Single level price difference for raw material domestic figure coming in transaction CKM3 is not matching with CKMLKEPH table.
Can you advice the tentative reason of it.
    Thanks in advance,
    MC.

    Hi MC,
MLHELP_CCS_CONS_CHECK which check the actual CCS and the program
    MLHELP_SPRICE_CCS_INIT for the standard CCS.
These programs are provided by the ML Helpdesk tool via note 364368.
Although these reports are used by SAP Support you can execute them in
test mode to verify your CCS data.

  • Difference between standard ods and transaction ods

    hi experts make this answer

    Transactional ODS Object
    Definition
A transactional ODS object differs from a standard ODS object in the way it prepares data. In a standard ODS object, data is stored in different versions (active, delta, modified), whereas a transactional ODS object contains the data in a single version.  Therefore, data is stored in precisely the same form in which it was written to the transactional ODS object by the application. In BW, you can use a transaction ODS object as a data target for an analysis process. You can find more information under Analysis Process Designer.
The transactional ODS object is also required by diverse applications, such as SAP Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM) for example, as well as other external applications.
    Use
Transactional ODS objects allow data to be available quickly. The data from this kind of ODS object is accessed transactionally, that is, data is written to the ODS object (possibly by several users at the same time) and reread as soon as possible.
It offers no replacement for the standard ODS object. Instead, an additional function displays those that can be used for special applications.
    Structure
The transactional ODS object simply consists of a table for active data. It retrieves its data from external systems via fill- or delete- APIs. Refer to ODS Data and External Applications.
The loading process is not supported by the BW system. The advantage to the way it is structured is that data is easy to access. They are made available for reporting immediately after being loaded.

  • Difference between Session method and call transaction

    Hi,
please give me the differences between session method and call transaction,
briefly explaining synchronus , asynchronus, process, update.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Vijay Kumar
    CLASSICAL BATCH INPUT (Session Method)
    CALL TRANSACTION
    BATCH INPUT METHOD:
This method is also called as ‘CLASSICAL METHOD’.
    Features:
    Asynchronous processing.
    Synchronous Processing in database update.
Transfer data for more than one transaction.
Batch input processing log will be generated.
During processing, no transaction is started until the previous transaction has been written to the database.
    CALL TRANSACTION METHOD :
This is another method to transfer data from the legacy system.
    Features:
Synchronous processing. The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement.
Updating the database can be either synchronous or asynchronous. The program specifies the update type.
Transfer data for a single transaction.
Transfers data for a sequence of dialog screens.
No batch input processing log is generated.
    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/difference-between-batch-input-and-call-transaction-in-bdc.htm
Among the two methods call transaction is better compared to session bcoz data transfer is faster in it.
Differences between call transaction and session.
    Session Method:
    1) Data is not updated in the database table until the session is processed.
    2) No sy-subrc is returned.
    3) Error log is created for error records.
    4) Updation is always synchronous.
    Call Transaction Method:
    1) Immediate updation in the database table.
    2) sy-subrc is returned.
3)Error need to be handled explicitly.
    4) updation can be synchronous as well as asynchronous.
    2) ya u can use using the N mode no screen.
3)u can't handle multiple transaction in call transaction.
    4) u can handle multiple transaction in session using the BDC_INSERT fm.
5)When u go to SM35 u can able to see the error records.
    Which is best?
That depends on your requirement. Both of them have there advantages.
According to the situation u can choose any one of these.
difference between batch input and call transaction in BDC Session method.
    1) synchronous processing.
    2) can tranfer large amount of data.
    3) processing is slower.
    4) error log is created
    5) data is not updated until session is processed.
    Call transaction.
    1) asynchronous processing
    2) can transfer small amount of data
    3) processing is faster.
    4) errors need to be handled explicitly
    5) data is updated automatically
For session method, these are the function modules to b used.
    BDC_OPEN_GROUP
    BDC_INSERT
    BDC_CLOSE_GROUP
For call transaction, this is the syntax.
    CALL TRANSACTION TCODE USING BDCDATA
    MODE A or E or N
    UPDATE A or S
    MESSAGES INTO MESSTAB.
Take a scenario where we need to post documents in FB01 and the input file has say 2000 records (2000 documents, not line items in FB01 but 2000 records)
In the BDC call transaction method
We call the transaction FB01 2000 times (once for each record posting) and if the processing fails in record no 3 it can be captured and start with reocord 4.
    Eg: Loop at itab.
    call transaction FB01
    capture errors
    endloop.
    In the session method.
We do not explicity call the transaction 2000 times, but all the records are appeneded into a session and this session is stored. The processinf of the session is done wwhenever the user wants it to be done. Hence the errors cannot be captured in the program itself
    Check these link:
    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/difference-between-batch-input-and-call-transaction-in-bdc.htm
    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/question-about-bdc-program.htm
    http://www.itcserver.com/blog/2006/06/30/batch-input-vs-call-transaction/
    http://www.planetsap.com/bdc_main_page.htm
Batch Input Session method is asynchronous as told by others here. But the advantage of this is that you have all the error messages and the data for each transaction held persistantly. You don't have to code anything for processing them or writing the logs.
But at the same time, the same feature can be disadvantageous if you need to react to an error or if there are too many errors to manually correct in a session. Since the session are created in the program and its execution is done seperately, you loose the trackability of such transactions.
With a call transaction, what was a disadvantage above will become an advantage. Call transaction immediately gives you messages back and you can react to it in your program. But the disadvantage is that, if you have several hundreds of transactions to run, running them from within the program can be resource crunching affair. It will hamper the system performance and you cannot really distribute the load. Of course, you have some mechanisms with which you can overcome this, but you will have to code for it. Also, storing the messages and storing the errored transaction data etc will have to be handled by you in the program. Whereas, in batch input session, your program's job is to just create the session, after that everything is standard SAP system's responsibility.
Ideally, you should do a call transaction if the resources are not a problem and if it fails, put the errored transaction into a session.
You can decide based on the data volume that your BDC is processing. If data volume is high go for session else call transaction will do.The call transaction updates will be instantaneous where as session needs to be processed explictly after creation.
    Session Method
    1) Session method supports both small amount of data aswell as large amount of data
    2) data processing is asynchronus and data updation is synchronus.
    3) it process multiple apllication while perfomaning validations.
    4) in session method data will be updated in data base only after processing session only.
    5) system provide by default logfile for handling error records.
    6) it supports both foreground aswell as background process
in bdc we use FM ...
    bdc_open_group " for creating Session
bdc_insert " adding transaction and bdcdata table for updating database
    bdc_close_group " for closing Session
    Call Transaction
    1) Call transaction exclusively for small amout of data
    2) it supports only one apllication while perfoming validations
    3) there is no default logfile, We can explicitly provide logic for creating logfile for handling error records.
we can create logfile by using structure....BDCMSGCOLL
    4) it doesn't support background processing.
    5) data processing is synchronous and Data updation is Synchronous( default), in
this method also supports daya updation in asynchronus process also.
    syntax:
    Call transaction <transaction-name> using BDCDATA
    mode <A/N/E>
    update <L/A/S>
    messages into BDCMSGCOLL.
    BDC:
Batch Data Communication (BDC) is the process of transferring data from one SAP System to another SAP system or from a non-SAP system to SAP System.
    Features :
    BDC is an automatic procedure.
This method is used to transfer large amount of data that is available in electronic medium.
BDC can be used primarily when installing the SAP system and when transferring data from a legacy system (external system).
BDC uses normal transaction codes to transfer data.
    Types of BDC :

  • Difference between Session method and Call transaction method

    Hi,
Difference between Session method and Call transaction method in BDC

    Hi,
    SESSION method:
Is a standard procedure for transferring large amount of data into the R/3 system.
Data consistency is ensured because batch input uses all thje checks conducted on the normal screen.
It is a two step procedure:
    1.  Progarm: creates batch input session. This session is the data file that includes everything to begin the transaction.
    2. Process session: Which then actually transfers the data to database table.
In this method an ABAP/4 program reads the external data that is to be entered in the SAP system and stores the data in a session.
A session stores the actions that are required to enter your data using normal SAP transactions i.e. data is transferred to session which inturn transfers data to database table. Session is an intermediate step between internal table and database table.
Data along with it's actions are stored in session. i.e. data for screen fields, to which screen it is passed, the program name behind it and how next screen is processed.
When the program has finished generating the session, u can run the session to execute the SAP transactions in it.
    BDC_OPEN_GROUP
You create the session through program by BDC_OPEN_GROUP function.
    1) User Name: User Name.
    2) Group       : Name of the session
    3) Lock Date : The date when you want to process the session.
    4) Keep        : This parameter is passed as 'X' when you want to retain session even       after processing it.
    BDC_INSERT
Data is transferred to session by BDC_INSERT.
    BDC_CLOSE_GROUP.
With this function the session will be closed.
    CALL TRANSACTION method.
    Syntax: call transaction <tr code> using <bdctab>
                                 mode <A/N/E>
                                 update <S/A>
                                 messages into <internal table>.
    <tr code>   : transaction code
<bdctab>   : Name of the BDC table
mode: mode in which you execute the transaction.
A   : all screen mode ( all the screens of the transaction are displayed )
N   : no screen mode ( no screen will be displayed when you execute the transaction )
E   : error screen ( only those screens are displayed where in you have error record )
    Update type:
S: synchronous update in which if you change data of one table then all the related tables gets updated and SY_SUBRC is returned for once and all.
A: asynchronous update in which if you change data of one table, the sy-subrc is returned and then updation of other affected tables takes place. So if system fails to update other tables still sy-subrc returned is zero.(that is when first table gets updated ).
messages: if you update database table, operation is either successful or unsuccessful. These messages are stored in internal table. This internal table structure is like BDCMSGCOLL.
           TCODE:  transaction code.
           DYNAME: batch input module name.
           DYNNUMB: batch input dyn no.
           MSGTYP:  batch input message type.
MSGSPRA: batch input language id of message.
           MSGID:    message id.
           MSGV1….MSGV5: message variables
For each entry which is updated in the database table message is available in BDCMSGCOLL.
    Reward if useful

    Srinu

  • What is the difference between undo tablespace and online redo log files.

what is the difference between undo tablespace and online redo log files. I am confused
as per my knowledge undo tablespace is used to store the undo information when a table is being updated so that, just incase we need to rollback a transaction we know what was present in the table earlier.
when a transaction fails the SMON performs the rollback of the data.
This undo data is stored in the undo tablespace and read consistency if any is enforced.
is my understanding till here correct?
Now, can this undo data/before image not be stored in the redo log buffer and online redolog files?
can redo-log files not store this information?
in fact, is it that when undo tablespaces exist in a database, the undo data/before image is stored in both the undo tablespace and also the redo log files?
    kindly clarify my doubt.
    thank you.

This question has been asked many times before. The answer is always the same.
Yes, redo contains the before image of data (and the after-image). Therefore, it **COULD** be used to roll back a transaction.
BUT... Redo is written sequentially. Using it to rollback your transaction would involve reading through all the redo written by maybe thousands of other people. It would be painfully slow.
Your transaction is, however, directly linked to just the UNDO that it generates (which is JUST the before image of the data). So, your undo is your undo and doesn't share space with anyone else's undo. Therefore, using it to roll back YOUR transaction is fast.
The fact that undo is only the before image of the data also makes it faster than wading through a sea of before and AFTER images as you'd find in redo. About twice as fast, in fact, since there's half the data. Roughly.
Redo also gets written and flushed to disk whenever there's a commit, 3 seconds are up or too much (1MB, actually) redo gets generated between flushes caused by other factors. Your redo gets flushed when those things happen, even if you haven't actually committed your transaction. And redo logs recycle themselves, meaning that your redo -even if your transaction hasn't been committed yet- can be over-written by later transactions. Try rolling back when that's happened, if redo was the source of your rollback data!
Undo, however, cannot be over-written if the transaction has not been committed. Ever. If you don't commit for three years, there will be three years' undo stored in your database (assuming you had the space, of course!).
I could go on, but that will do. Redo is there fore RECOVERY, after catastrophe. Undo is there for read-consistency (and the occasional change of mind). Two different functions. Two different mechanisms. Each one highly tuned to doing what it does, why it does it, most efficiently and effectively.

    hi,
what is difference between sap locking and database locking. Iam locked the table mara by using lock objects.

    Hi Paluri
Here is the difference between SAP locks and Database locks, i will try to find the solution to your code.
    Regards
    Ashish
Database Locks: The database system automatically sets database locks when it receives change statements (INSERT, UPDATE, MODIFY, DELETE) from a program. Database locks are physical locks on the database entries affected by these statements. You can only set a lock for an existing database entry, since the lock mechanism uses a lock flag in the entry. These flags are automatically deleted in each database commit. This means that database locks can never be set for longer than a single database LUW; in other words, a single dialog step in an R/3 application program.
Physical locks in the database system are therefore insufficient for the requirements of an R/3 transaction. Locks in the R/3 System must remain set for the duration of a whole SAP LUW, that is, over several dialog steps. They must also be capable of being handled by different work processes and even different application servers. Consequently, each lock must apply on all servers in that R/3 System.
    SAP Locks:
To complement the SAP LUW concept, in which bundled database changes are made in a single database LUW, the R/3 System also contains a lock mechanism, fully independent of database locks, that allows you to set a lock that spans several dialog steps. These locks are known as SAP locks.
The SAP lock concept is based on lock objects. Lock objects allow you to set an SAP lock for an entire application object. An application object consists of one or more entries in a database table, or entries from more than one database table that are linked using foreign key relationships.
Before you can set an SAP lock in an ABAP program, you must first create a lock object in the ABAP Dictionary.

  • What is difference between bex analyser and bex browser

what is difference between bex analyser and bex browser . please explain what are use of both and what we do in both.

    hi
    Bex Browser
The Business Explorer Browser (BEx Browser) makes it possible for you to access all document types of the Business Information Warehouse that are assigned to your role or that you have stored in your favorites. You can select and open documents assigned to you in the BEx Browser or store and manage new documents in the BEx Browser.
Document types that you can work with in the BEx Browser are:
    · BW workbooks
    · Documents that are stored in the Business Document Service (BDS)
    · Links (references to file system, shortcuts)
    · Links to internet sites (URLs)
    · SAP transaction calls.
    · Web applications and Web templates
    · Crystal Reports
    Bex Analyser
The Business Explorer Analyzer (BEx Analyzer) is the analysis and reporting tool of the Business Explorer that is embedded in Microsoft Excel.
    Features
You can call up the BEx Query Designer in the BEx Analyzer, in order to define queries. Subsequently, you can analyze the selected InfoProvider data by navigation to the query created in the Query Designer and create different query views of the data. You can add the different query views for a query or for different queries to a work book and save them there. You can save the workbook in your favorites or in your role on the BW Server. You can also save the workbook locally on your computer.
Beyond that, you can precalculate the workbook and distribute it by e-mail to recipeients or you can export it to the Enterprise Portal and make it accessible to other employees in the company.
You can start queries in a standard view (with a Standard Web Template set up in Customizing) in the Web browser and forward the URL or continue to navigate on the Web. Similarly, you can export the Web query to MS Excel 2000.
Overview of the Functional Area of the BEx Analyzer:
    ·        BEx toolbar
You access the functions of the BEx Analyzer from the BEx toolbar, which takes you to the BEx Open dialog box where you can open existing queries, or to the BEx Query Designer where you can create new queries or change existing queries.
    ·        Evaluating Query Data
The BEx Analyzer offers convenient functions for evaluating and presenting InfoProvider data interactively. In the BEx Analyzer, you can add queries to workbooks, navigate within them and refresh the data. You can also process the queries further in Microsoft Excel or display them in the Web browser in a default view.
Navigation of a query allows you, for example, to filter characteristics on a single value, drilldown on all values for a characteristic, regroup characteristics and key figures in the rows and columns of the results area, or hide key figures. Navigation results in different views of the InfoProvider data. In addition, a range of further functions is available which allow you to edit a query interactively (for example, sorting, cumulated output, among others). In addition, you can use the editing functions in Microsoft Excel in order to set up individual format templates, to print results areas, or to create graphics.
    ·        Queries in Workbooks
Queries are inserted into workbooks so you can display them. When you insert a query, a link is made between the cell areas of the worksheet and the data of the InfoProvider upon which the query is based. A link therefore exists between the Business Explorer and the Business Information Warehouse Server (BW Server).
When inserting a query into the workbook, a VBA routine is automatically generated in the workbook. You can also connect the Business Explorer with your own VBA programs (Visual Basic for Applications).
You can create workbook templates, into which you can insert your queries. Workbook templates can contain pre-determined items for the area of the query, formatting settings, logos, VBA macros, and so on.
    ·        Precalculating workbooks
You can precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, which is a Web application you get to form the BEx toolbar. The system generates MS Excel workbooks with historical data. You determine the time for precalculation yourself: You can have workbooks precalculated at a predefined time or they can be precalculated whenever data in the underlying InfoProvider changes. You can have the precalculated workbooks sent by e-mail or you can export them into the Enterprise Portal, where you can make them available to employees within your company.

  • What is difference between User Exits and BAPI

    hello sap gurus
what is difference between User Exits and BAPIs

    http://www.sap-img.com/abap/what-is-user-exits.htm
    www.****************
Where as this customer exits are again divided into:
    1. Menu Exits.
    2. Field Exits.
    3. Screen Exits.
    4. Function module exits.
These all the things comes under Enhancements.
    User exits
1.A user exit is a three character code that instructs the system to access a program during system processing.SXX: S is for standard exits that are delivered by SAP.
XX represents the 2-digit exit number.UXX: U is for user exits that are defined by the user. XX represents the 2-digit exit number
2.USER EXITS are FORMS and are called by SAP standard programs
    using PERFORM.
3.Inside the form (user exit) you can read and change almost
any global data from host program.
    4. User exits are more flexible because you have more information to use in your code but on the other hand , it is very easy to manipulate erroneously global data and lead the standard program to a dump or even to make database inconsistent.
5.While changing User-exit,Access Key is required,
BAPI is nothing function module but which is remote enabled, means you can access this fm through other SAP or non-SAP system by assingning to business object, which we can crea in SWO1 transaction.

  • What is difference between bus.Area and plant

    dear experts,
what is difference between bus.Area and plant?
    thanks
    Rajakarthik.

    Hi
Plant and Business Area are not the same.
Business Areas are configured in FI module as per the Product lines or geographical operations basis.
Where as The plants created in the logistics (General) module are assigned to the company code. That means all transactions taking place in the plants are posted to the attached company code in SAP FI.
You can post a business area to several company codes and use it for cross-company-code reporting.
The R/3 System uses a combination of plant and division to assign the relevant business area. When you use the R/3 System to automatically draw up accounts for business areas, you can assign only one business area to a combination of plant and division. Plants and divisions can be assigned and combined in several different ways.

  • What is difference between u2018credit exposureu2019 and u2018credit limitu2019?

    Hi
    What is difference between u2018credit exposureu2019 and u2018credit limitu2019?
What transaction I can used for to see these tow information?
    best regard
    francoise

Credit exposure is total AR and open sales values.  Credit limit is used for block sales documents if the total exposure will exceed the credit limit. For Example:
      Credit Limit : 600
       Open AR ( Customer Balance) : 100
Customer Open Orders (Order Quantity have been confirmed, but no delivery document is created) : 100
Open Delivery (Delivery has been created, but no billing ) : 100
Open Billing (Billing is created, but has not release to Financial Accounting): 100
So far, the credit exposure is  400. If a new sales order is coming with value of 260, the sales order will be blocked, but the credit exposure is still 400.
Then if someone release the new sales order , then the credit exposure is 660.
Hope this is useful for you.
