Difference in apple cables

Hi I have a iPod nano 1st gen and a iPhone 4s.
When I plug the phone to my Alpine 121e car audio system using the sync cable provided for iPhone 4s I can listen to music and the voice navigation doent work. But when I changed the wire that I received when i brounght my iPod, I am able to listen to music and the vioce navigation through my car audio.
Is there anything apple changed in the cables?
Old cable is thick and the pin needs to be pressed to remove the cable from phone/iPod.
Thank you,

Thanks Chris for the advice, I did wait and read about the 80 gig, and posted a couple of questions and made a couple of calls, the 60 gig is going to work like a champ for me. Price vs features is the right fit. I got it a refurb model and had a promotion (money off cupon) from Apple and was about the same as a 2 gig Nano. Sure would have loved the 80 gig, but really after reading the forum really do think that the 60 will work quite well. Do have another question, what software should I download so I can rip (a legally owned and have the rights to) DVD to my computer and then make it into a format for the video. Not sure if there is just one program or two. Free is a good price if possible. once again thanks so much for the advice and help.
cleaning up after hurrican John and now last night hurrican Lane. sheesh.

  • Any difference between Apple MA591G/A or MA591G/B dock cables?

I have just ordered an Apple Universal Dock (Model MB125G/C), and need
to order a USB dock cable to hook it up to my Mac.
Apple is currently selling the Apple Cable MA591G/B ... but I was wondering
if the previous Apple Cable (MA591G/A), would work with the newer Universal iPod Dock?
I will be using the new dock with a 3rd gen. iPod Touch.
    Any info would be appreciated.

So are both 30 Pin ... and it's just more or less a "design" issue
    with the end connector shape?
Or ... does the newer cable (MA591G/B), have some advantages with
newer iPod Touch's or iPhone's being released as the 4th Gen. versions?

  • What is the difference between Apple TV 2010 & 2011?

    Dear All,
Is there any differences between Apple TV 2010 & 2011?

ohh! you mean I should connect the optical audio to the receiver or the tv.
if the receiver has optical input, i should connect the Apple TV optical audio to it, if no, i should connect it to the TV.
    Right?
and this should be for each device connected with the receiver?
So, If the receiver doesn't has optical audio input ports, the HDMI that connects the receiver with the TV set can transmit video only, right?
Is that mean if we have Apple TV, DVD and Blue-Ray, we should have 3 HDMI input ports and 3 Optical Audio input ports????????
The HDMI should transmit Audio Video, so the device should connect with only HDMI cable with the receiver.
Sorry, I get confused. Why do we have Audio output (optical audio)?
Is it only if we want to use Home Theater Speakers?

  • Mophie iPhone 5 Case - iPhone will no longer charge using the apple cable.

    Hi All,
In July, I purchased a Mophie Case for my iPhone 5. Everything was going great until I realized a few months later that my iPhone would no longer charge using my apple cable. It would only charge using my mophie. Turns out my husband, who also has a mophie case, was experiencing the same issue, my case is the mophie Juice Pack Air and my husbands is the mophie Juice Pack Helium Battery Case. Later I was telling this to a friend at work and she mentioned having the exact same this happen to her phone after using a mophie.
I contacted mophie, not to try and get anything, just to let them know and see if they had any ideas.... well they were not receptive at all. They said,  "I do not think that the juice packs could have done that to your phones. I would need some sort of objective evidence." I said that multiple customers experience is evidence, to which they said "I need objective evidence. Simply because a person thinks they know the cause, doesn't mean they do. If there was an Apple engineer saying that it was the cause...heresay does not constitute solid evidence."
So yeah... apparently a customer calling to let them know their experience is meaningless to them. So I am turning to the apple community. Has anyone ever experienced this with there mophie. Any ideas why this may have happened? We have only used the cord that came with the case and apple cables on our phones.
Any info you have would be appreciated.
    Thanks so Much,
    Jamye

Mophie was not denying that you had a problem charging your phone. What they were telling you was that what you don't have is proof that the mophie case caused the problem. It might be, it might not be. As the saying goes, correlation does not prove causality. What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
I used first the mophie Helium and then a mophie SpacePak on my 5S without it imparing my ability to charge it with my Apple cables or other lightning cables (Belkin car charger). And I've known many other people who haven't had a problem.

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when iPhone 5 (w iOS 7.0.2) is connected to car radio via an Apple cable

I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2, regardless it is the most recent update
When I plug my phone into my car radio's USB port (Apple cable, not knock off) iTunes starts to play the very first song in my large iTunes library.
I plug into the USB port to charge it and to connect the phone to radio in order to use hands free audio.
I have tried two or three different cables, it happens with all cables and again all are actual Apple cables.
I do not recall this happening with iOs 6 or at least as much.
With iOs 7 it happens every f***ing time. Extremely annoying and dangerous (I may get so frustrated by this that one day I might just smash the phone or the car radio :-) to the equipment.
I have to unlock my phone, go to iTunes and pause or stop the song/iTunes.
The app does not show as being open, that is why I have to go iTunes itself, the old fashioned way, so to speak.
It sometimes happens when I plug my headset in (also Apple brand, the basic ones that come with the iPad and iPhones) to phone and have tried the two different ones I have. It only seems to happen if my phone is not in use (i.e. I am on a call and switch to the headset it does not happen)
Interestingly this issue with the headphones and iTunes automatically starting happened more with iOS 6  and than with iOS 7. Ironically the opposite is true with the car radio, USB port cable, charging and iPhone — it rarely happened with iOS 6.0 but with iOS 7.0 it always happens.
I cannot seem to find a fix here but I do see I am not the only one with this annoying issue.
Please someone (APPLE!)  figure out a fix.
PS I have even considered NOT having any of my music on my phone — none at all —  which not only would solve the problem (I would hope!)  but be extremely inconvenient and defeating the purpose of only having an iPhone vs an iPhone and an iPod.
PPS -  I probably left out something really relevant, like what color is my car , so if I did, please let me know.

I have an iPhone 5 and every time I get into my car, as soon as my iPhone connects to the bluetooth or if I connect the USB cable, the music starts blaring through the car stereo, even if the radio was off. If I am using any of the navigation apps on my phone (google maps, waze, apple maps), and I happen to be lucky enough to have the voice directions working (that's consistently inconsistent), the music will frequently start by itself during navigation, even if I didn't turn the music on. Sometimes the music and navigation voice over will compete with each other at the same time. Sometimes they both go totally silent. Sometimes I'll hear only music. Sometimes only the voice directions. And if make or receive a phone call while the navigation is working, as soon as the phone call ends, the music will always take over again, even if I didn't have the music on prior to. I've checked and re-checked every setting on my phone, in my apps, in my car, and followed all of the suggestions I've found online (note to Apple - there are tons of posts on this topic), and nothing works.
It seems like there should be an easy software fix for this, or at the very least, options to:
prevent the music from starting automatically every time you connect with a cable or bluetooth (insanely annoying)
allow voice directions to temporarily mute music, should one choose to be listenting to music and navigating at the same time
just listen to voice direction - no music!
Better yet, how about just provide options to let the end-user decide when to listen to music.
For a product that is supposed to be "intuitively easly" and/or "just works", this level of dysfunction shouldn't be acceptable. Come on Apple - what are you doing to fix this???

  • What's the difference between Apple TV and direct-connecting an iPad?

I'm thinking about getting Apple TV - but what does Apple TV give me that my iPad doesn't?  I've got an Apple cable that connects my iPad to my big screen already.  What do I gain by getting Apple TV instead?  Please advise - thanks!

Thanks!  Yea, I'm leaning that way and from everything I've read the 'biggest' benefit would be Airplay - and the 5:1 surround in my gameroom (or the 7:1 surround in my screening room).  I don't stream movies - I'm more of a blu ray collector and watch movies that way - so in all probability I wouldn't use Apple TV in the screening room - but there are several other locations where it could be a nice addition.
I do watch some TV shows on my iPAD, and lots of music videos - so perhaps, with Airplay they'll look/sound even better if I push that content to one of the other big screens.
For the most part - whenever I wanted to watch something from my iPad on the big screen, I just connected it to my A/V receiver - pressed play, and enjoyed.  Apple TV would now become that device that's connected to my A/V receiver, and the iPad more of a remote - uncabled.
Again - thanks for the reply; it's proven very helpful.
    Cheers.

  • What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model

What is the difference between Apple Ipad Air Model # MD788LL/A and Model # MD788LL/B

These models both use the same i7-3820QM processor, so difference(if any) is probably not in CPU(only stepping can be different, but intel site shows only E1). GPU is also the same(again, 'revision' or something may be different). doesn't seem that RAM is different either, it's 1600 DDR3L(only timings and power consumption can differ, but it's unlikely). SSD - cannot say anything from specs. Screen[manufacturer]? Googling shows nothing for me. And only visible difference(apart from model number) for me is price. As I'm considering purchase, I don't want to spend more money to get different number.

What is the difference between apple care protection plan and apple care +

    apple care protection plan
That is the extended warranty (total of 3 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any Mac computer.
    apple care +
That is the extended warranty (total of 2 years including the standard warranty for the first year) for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone, etc).
For either, the standard warranty is usually referred to as hardware warranty (not Applecare); see an example for the warranty for an iMac:

whereas the extended Applecare is referred to as that:

  • Apple Cable Help

Hi i have a apple cable it used to work fine i dont know why now to get the computer to detect it i have to put it in a special position, if i move it the slightest bit it disconnects. I tried different hubs, different laptops, i have iTouch 4G 32GB i also tried the cable on iPhone 3Gs and the same problem. HELP ASAP!!! Do i need a new cable? maybe i need to unhook the cord and fix it manualy???? HELP PLEASE!!!

When you say that you used the cable on the Phone do you mean that you tried connecting the phone with this cable or that you tried using the cable that came with the phone? To me you make it sound like you used this cable with the phone and still had problems.
If that is the case - It sure sounds like you need a new connector cable. If you have a spare - like one for the Phone - try that one. The cables for the Phone, The iPod Touch and the iPad are interchangeable. If another cable works OK - the one that you have been using is bad.
I would not try to fix it but that is your choice. I would buy a new one.

  • What does this 30-pin Apple cable, with a hashed "Y" symbol, do?

I was excited to find this Apple cable in my brother's old room at my parents house. I'm in desperate need of a charge and my 5,000th charger just broke. The one end fits perfectly into my iPhone 4 (think it's called a 30-pin?) but the other end is too thick & short for both my electrical plug adapter & the laptop's USB. It has the Apple symbol on the one side and the other side has a sort of hash-line "Y" symbol. There's a little open circle mid-Y (at the point where the two branches meet forming the base of the V) and the right branch is a blackened in rectangle...Help! Please tell me I can use this random cable to charge my iPhone! And thanks for any input!

That is a FireWire cable used for early iPods. It will not charge your iPhone.
You won't damage anything if you plug it in to a FireWire port though. Your iPhone will just say "Charging is not supported with this accessory."

  • Why is the price difference of apple products in different countries? For example in UAE price is different as compared to Germany?

Why is the price difference of apple products in different countries? For example in UAE price is different as compared to Germany?
MacBook Pro with retina price in US is USD1299 and same product price in Germany is 1299 Euro. Why???

Obviously all the answers up here are true.. but I think that was not the real meaning behind the question.
Every country has different currencies that not only convert differently to others but have a different and relative value for the inhabitants. For example although Forex says 1,3$ = 1€  for the average European and American 1$=1€.. that means that roughly inside your country what you buy inUS for 1$ you get in Europe for 1€ (ex: McDonalds hamburger).
Also each country has it's own taxes, different renting prices (for apple store), different VAT, etc...
But the real question is. Is Apple NEUTRAL to market conditions?
This means... does Apple adapt their margin on products to local conditions or not?
To make it simple... Let's say Apple ... everything considered... gets 100$ for an iPhone sold in US... Will Apple fix their price in other countries so that, after paying local taxes, local costs, etc... still.. for each iPhone they earn 100$ ??
Or they have different market strategies such as rising the prices in countries where people are richer and more likely to buy iPhones even if "overcharged"? Or on the other side.. do they lower prices in poor countries (obviously not under production cost) to help locals buy in Iphone?
I think that Apple is doing their best to stay neutral to the market.. that is... We want 100$ at the end of the day.. whatever...
So we have paradoxes because in some countries iPhone costs more while in these countries people earn less  (and I think this is not random.. but happens because.. usually.. countries with more regulations and taxes are also countries with lower wages... but that's politics!)
Here is a small comparison of iPhone 6 (16 Gb version) prices:
USA 550€........................ Average GDP per person  51.704 $  (calculated with California sales tax)
Switzerland 629 €............ Average GDP per person 44.864$
United Kingdom 687€....... Average GDP per person 36.569 $
Gerany 699€.................... Average GDP per person 38.666 $
France 709€................... Average GDP per person 35.295 $
    Italy 729€........................Average GDP per person 29.812 $
As you can see Apple seems not to care about living conditions in the country or about average wages etc.. they just have their price adjusted to local regulations and taxes. Europe has 2years warranty service for items sold in Apple Stores (and 1 for items sold in other stores where Apple is responsible only for the first year). We also have some other taxes... For example, here in Italy, we have a tax on hard drives (goes by the Gbyte) that affects any multimedia product. Tax is meant to finance artists whom you are supposedly "stealing" by having unauthorised copies on your portable device...  (I know.. is ridiculous). Etc...
