Difference in colour between 2012 and 2010 proc

I know that newer 2012 process tries to save detail in the highlights (different tonal curve I guess), and has much better controls in Basic develop module so I was eager to edit my newest shots in LR4.
However, I wasn't so thrilled how it rendered bright pinkish colours.
Two examples below are cropped parts of a photograph, have default values, using Adobe Standard profile, from Canon7D raw file.
Image done in 2012 process, default values.
And this one is 2010:
It doesn't seem a big deal when viewed in the web browser on the white background, but the difference is very obvious when editing those  in LR. Notice that 2012 file has a "better" histogram with "safe" highlight zone.
However, it altered the colours as well and histogram shows that too. Pink blouse seem more washed out. I can assure you that process 2010 file is much more closer to the original scene, original colours.
So... can I do anything about this? Can it be corrected in final LR4 version? Sure I can raise the saturation in the pink channel, but that will raise other, well saturated, areas as well and I won't get the same result like in 2010 proc. file.

I've been testing the "2012 Process" using a Macbeth color checker image (raw). My first goal was to determine what settings in LR/2012 would best match CS5/ACR6/2010. I was not trying to preserve the 2010 process, just want to better understand the difference.
First pass just using the defaults in both versions resulted in differences of 3 to 5 points in the RGB values of the 24 patches of the colorchecker. On some patches, one of the RGB values might be the same, but at least one was different by 3 to 5 points. The 2012 version looked lighter overall, so I suspected that the difference was due to tones (as Jeff Schewe has suggested).
So by trial and error I kept reprocessing the LR4/2012 version, decreasing only the Blacks slider. When I got to a setting of Blacks -8, the black colorchecker patch finally matched all 3 RGB values. All the other patches were very close, with a few differences of only 1 point in RGB values, and usually in only 1 value (red or green or blue, but not all three)
However, there was 1 exception. The Blue value in the colorchecker's Yellow patch had a 7 point difference. All the other primary patches were exact matches.
My colorchecker test images were from a Canon 5D2, processed under the Adobe Standard profile, rendered as 16bit TIFs in Adobe98 colorspace, and stacked as Photoshop layers to read the RGB values.
So I suspect what many are perceiving as color differences are real differences, but are caused by the basic difference in tonal rendition between the 2012 and 2010 processes. For the OP, please reprocess your pinks in LR4 with some different black settings and see if you get closer to your original 2010 version. I'd be curious to hear the results.

  • Differences in colours between Photoshop and Bridge

    I have a question that have puzzled me for a while. There's some differences between the colours in bridge and in photoshop. When they're previewed in Bridge it has nice warm and sligtly desaturated feel to it. When i open the RAW file in Photoshop it gets much pale and red. Why is that? The same thing happens when i shoot the picture and the first preview shows the warm and desaturated version, but when i see the picture again it's back to the pale and red version. Same thing happens, when i open it in Ligthroom. When i click on a picture, it shows the warm and desaturated version, but quickly return to the other one, after the picture is loaded.
    I really like the warm and slightly desaturated version, so is there a way i can keep it, or bring it back? I know it has something to do with the colour conversion, that happens in the camera, but i can't figure out how to use it.
    I'm shooting with a Canon EOS 5d mkIII. See a screenshot of the issue.
    Please help me...
    Lars

    There is a non-obvious menu at the top right hand side of Bridge that selects whether Bridge displays the camera generated jpeg within the raw file (your preferred rendering above) or the ACR version (the warmer redder image).  I set mine to High Quality so the Bridge version always matches the ACR, even if it takes slightly longer to render.
    Canon has its own algorithm for conversion and AFAIK they don't share it with Adobe.  My advice is change the Bridge setting so that the two match, and try the other camera profiles under ACR Camera Calibration to see if one is more pleasing than the stock Adobe Standard.  Alternatively, you can get into modifying/creating your own camera profiles, but that will take some more study and tools, such as using the DNG Profile Editor.

  • Difference in value Between BW and R/3

    Hi,
    We are in the process of validating reports .We have observed difference in value for  credit and debit amount fields in BW and for the same data is coming from standard data source 0EN_JVA_2 (Joint venture: Actual line item using delta extraction) we have done full data load. In the data source the data coming from a single field and that is spited based on debit/credit indicator in R/3.
    I need your valuable input on where the problem is for the difference of value between BW and R/3.

    Any update rule for the key figure is having routine with modifiying the value?
    Kindly check.

    Any idea for it? Thanks.

    hi Kyle,
    thanks for the effort, but it wasn't the thing i asked for ...
    what i would like to find out is:
    if CO area settings are set w/o profit centers, why the system still demands profit center assignment with cost center master data (ie.)
    well, i can always turn off the message, but this isn't the solution i want to use ...
    i will rather open one PC (along with dummy, of course) even though those are not used for the customer ... although, this will not solve statistical posting to cc with cost element category 11 ...

  • Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v?

    Is there any difference in quality between mp4 and m4v? I am figuring out how best to save old VCR files. Is the 264 category the best?

    So, what would that software be? Anything that I mentioned, e.g., iMovie? Any Video Converter?
    I'm a Mac user so I want files that play "natively" in QT X, QT 7, QL, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, and/or TV players. This means I want the H.264/AAC compressed data in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers. I can use QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, and /or QT X to move MPEG-4/AAC compressed data to MOV file containers, MPEG Streamclip to movie M4V and MOV MPEG-4/AAC data to MP4 file containers, and Subler to move MP4 or MOV MPEG-4 AVC/AAC/AC3/Chapter data to M4V file containers. This is strictly a simple "copy" operation and no recompression of data is involved. (I.e., the quality is not changed.)
    iMovie is a video editor and it forces an export conversion of your project once completed which can degrade quality. Have never used the Any Video Converter so I don't know if it has an audio and/or video "passthrough" feature for data already in a compatible compression formats. If it doesn't then any conversion it makes has the potential to degrade video content.
    As to AVI, this is a legacy file container abandoned by Microsoft a dozen years ago in favor of their modernized WMV compression format/file type products. Compared to MKV, AVI is an outmoded/out-of-date container which I don't recommend you use unless you are a glutton for punishment. However, if you must use it, then you might try the AvidMux app. It can "copy" compatible content to a number of file container types—including AVI and MKV. Just don't blame me if its use creates more problems than it solves on current Mac systems.

  • Differences xml-db  between R10g2 and R11_2 ?

    HI,
    there are differences in xml-db between R10g2 and R11_2 ?
    where I can find about it
    regards
    Edited by: astramare on Feb 17, 2011 3:04 PM

    ok:
    we have changed our DB from R10.2 to R11_2
    by using DataPump
    we do create a lot of different schema-based xml-Data
    by using DBMS_XMLGEN
    from a sql/xml-function based View
    like
    xmldoc := DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML(ctx);
    xmldoc_xmlType:=(xmltype(xmldoc)) ;
    xmldoc_xmlType.isSchemaValid
    dbms_xslprocessor.clob2file
    all other xml_schema do work fine after migration
    with this one following exception
    while validate the output inside a package
    we get an error
    LSX-00285: Referenzierter Schlüssel "405986.0" ist nicht definiert
    to look at differences
    I have identical created
    one XML-output in the ( old ) 10gR2 -DB
    and
    one XML-output in the ( new ) 11R2 - DB
    both I can ok validate against the same schema inside XML-Spy ( Vers 2006 )
    but
    the R10_2 XMLType does ok validate in DB 10gR2
    the R11_2 XMLType does not validate in R11 !
    by view the xml-data-files in XMLSpy or another editor
    there obvious a difference:
    In the SQL/XML-select I work with .extract
    the xml-output from R10 is correct in a xml-like structure
    the xml-output from R11 is not
    both data-file have the identical ascii-words
    but different size in kByte
    the call to register the schema in R10_2 and R11_2 is identical:
    dbms_xmlschema.registerSchema(
    schemaurl => vschemaurl,
    schemadoc => xsd_file,
    local => FALSE,
    gentypes => TRUE,
    genbean => FALSE,
    gentables => TRUE,
    force => FALSE,
    owner => dbuser
    ,CSID => nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8')
    the xml-schemas looks :
    R10
    <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://www.abcde.de/nsdir"
    elementFormDefault="qualified"
    attributeFormDefault="unqualified"
    xdb:flags="311"
    xdb:schemaURL="http://www.abcde.de/nsdis/SCHEMABEZ.XSD"
    xdb:schemaOwner="USER"

    In the middle of a text conversation between another iOS 5.0 iPhone user and myself, the conversation elements switched back and forth several times between Text and iMessage. The phone actually tracked it and put little lines indicating the switch, and my comments changed from green to blue and back again. I can't think of anything I changed in the middle of the conversation. I was outside WiFi range, using the Cell network at the time. Now I tried it again, while i'm on WiFI and the messages are Text (green) again.

  • Unable to open OWA cross site between 2013 and 2010 Exchange Server

    Hello,
    First of all allow me to describe the scenario as this always helps and is often omitted from many questions.
    SITEA – 1 x 2010 Exchange Server (All roles except UM and Edge), Domain controllers etc available
    SITEB- 1 x Newly installed 2013 Exchange Server (Mailbox and CAS roles), GC Domain controllers etc. avaliable
    Sites and Services are correctly configured between the sites and we have a high speed WAN connection between the data centres all ports and communication between servers at both sites are open as the connection is secure.
    After installing Exchange 2013 in SITEB, whenever I try to login to either the ECP or OWA of the 2013 with a user whose mailbox is in SITEA we immediately receive the sad smiley face with the something went wrong message. Clicking more details displays
    the following message:
    X-FEServer: <OUR_EX_2013_SERVER>
    I was expecting Exchange to proxy the request to the 2010 server and get the 2010 OWA experience. If I create a new mailbox on the 2013 then it is of course fine.
    Is someone able to suggest any troubleshooting steps? I have of course fully followed the Exchange 2013 deployment assistant from Microsoft and ensured all pre-requisites were carried out.
    The Exchange 2013 server is SP1 and is running on Windows 2012 R2

    Hi,
    According to your description, your ECP and OWA requests cannot be proxyed or redirected from your Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010 server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
    If yes, I recommend you the following troubleshooting:
    1. Check all URLs of ECP and OWA virtual directory on your Exchange 2010 server.
    get-owavirtualdorectory |fl *url
    get-ecpvirtualdirectory |fl *url
    Does your Exchange 2010 server has the same namespace with your Exchange 2013 server?
    2. Check if you can ping your Exhange 2010 server on your Exchange 2013 server.
    3. Check if there is any error in your event log and IIS log on the Exchange 2013 server.

  • What are the main differences in features between FCP and FCE?

    I'm buying filmmaking equipment for my teenage son, who has shown himself to be serious about getting started making shorts. One big decision (regarding costs and $$$ allocation for other system elements such as the computer and camcorder)is whether to get Final Cut Pro (studio version) or Final Cut Express. He has used Final Cut in several camps and film school programs. Feedback will be most appreciated!

    FCP can't be bought by itself, however Final Cut Studio includes Color, Motion, and DVD Studio Pro.... FCE will not edit any format except DV and HDV. FCP will edit most every format. FCP is keyframeable, where FCE really isn't. There really is a ton of difference between the two apps. FCE has no media management, has fewer effects, etc... One's an enthusiasts' program and the other (Final Cut Studio) is a full professional suite of software... it's certainly worth the difference, but might be more than you want to spend. FCE is a subset of code taken from FCP, so learning it will help with learning FCP... the interface is nearly identical.

  • Workflows: How to set a workflow variable that is the difference in hours between now and a created date

    I'm trying to create a variable that contains the number of hours between the item created date and Now.  When i use TODAY, it seems to set the time at 12:00 rather than the time now - so that throws the hours off.  Any ideas?
    ajw

    Hi ajw,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to calculate the hours between the item created date and now.
    It seems to be not an OOB way to implement your requirement, to get the current time, you need to create a custom workflow activity for SharePoint 2010 workflow. About creating custom workflow activity, you can refer to the links below:

    Or, you can use a third party solution to achieve your requriement.

  • Is there a difference in Photomerge between CC and Elements?

    Hello! I have a quick product question - I have been using Lightroom for some time now and am very comfortable with the workflow I have going. I shoot quite a bit of film, and recently have been "scanning" my 6x6 negatives with my DSLR and a macro lens. I downloaded a trial of Elements 13 to see how the Photomerge option works. Long story short, it works great. Now I am curious if there are any differences between the Photomerge option in Photoshop CC vs Photoshop Elements 13. The only difference I can come up with is that the CC Photomerge has an option directly from Lightroom and Elements does not (merge to Panorama still greyed out with Elements installed). Thank you for your great products, and I truly appreciate your insight.

    Most people either use one app or the other, and have very limited knowledge of the one they don't use.  But from what I can find from a quick look round the web, they seem to be the same.

  • Is there a difference in levels between CS4 and CS5

    I've just upgraded from CS4 to CS5 and I'm finding I seem to have more 'space' in levels when processing raw files to TIFF - especially at the shadow end.
    Heavily polarised landscapes with lots of sky sometimes show saturation clipping (a spike at the left hand edge of the histogram) in the shadow end of the blue channel in CS4.  In CS5 / ACR 6.2 this seems to have gone away and there is more headroom at the extremes of the histogram generally.  This means I can process the difficult images and get a TIFF with a clean histogram.
    Problem is when I open the finished TIFF file in an earlier version of Photoshop the clipping is back.  This is a problem as image libraries often reject images which show clipping.
    Anyone know whats going on?  Is there a change in the way CS5 maps the histogram?  (All images are saved with an Adobe (1998) colour space)

    Thanks for the answer Chris - I've checked all the default settings & I think everything is as it should be - but I'm still seeing a difference.  Here's an example of a raw file (16bit Tiff), processed in CS5 and viewed in CS5
    and here is the same file this time viewed in CS4:
    I'm pretty sure all the color management settings are the same - any ideas?
