Difference in Ram Usage between Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 PRO

Before getting any Version of windows I would Like to know how much is the ram difference with a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 VS Windows 8.1 PRO, Since I doubt I would use some services/applications of Windows 8.1 and if I disable some services would
reduce the ram usage up to Windows 8.1 levels? Thanks

Trust me, you're going to want to reconfigure a lot of Windows 8.1's features.  It kind of stinks
as configured right out of the box.  One good tool to do that with is the
Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), and you only get that with Pro.
I'd also suggest getting the 64 bit version if your hardware can run it.  It's the way of the future.

  • RAM Swap Between Core 2 Duo and i5 13" MacBook Pros

    Hi!
We have two MacBook Pro's at work. One is a late-2010 13" MacBook Pro with an 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The other is an early-2011 13" MacBook Pro with an 2.3GHz Intel i5 processor.
What we'd like to do is upgrade the i5 to 8GB of RAM and more the 4GB from the i5 to the Core 2 Duo, which currently has only 2GB.
The memory modules for both are the same pin set, but seem to be different speeds - one is 1066Hz, the other is 1333Hz. What I'm looking to find out, before I purchase anything, is if the memory that came installed in the i5 MacBook Pro will work in the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro.
Any help you can give would be great!
    Thanks!
    -Eric

    Hi Eric,
I have not tried those specific machines, but in the past I have done what you're asking about. In those days there used to be called "dual programmed" RAM. I've had several Macs that the RAM was interchangeable on; if installed in the lower speed machine, it would run at the lower speed; if installed on the higher speed machine it would run at the higher speed. BUT, it was also possible to buy different brands of RAM that were not interchangeable in those same Macs; one model/brand of RAM worked in one of the Macs, one worked in the other, but neither worked in the the opposite machine.
Where does that leave you? I believe it's possible the faster RAM will work in the slower machine. Unless it's "dual programmed" as I described, I doubt the slower RAM will function properly in the faster machine (and if it did, it might function at the slower bus speed = not good), but that doesn't appear to matter to what you want to do.
I do not know for sure that it is "safe" to try the faster RAM in the slower machine, but based on other posts I've read, I wouldn't be afraid to try it. Note that if it does funtion properly, it isn't going to be at the faster speed (1333MHz); that's something you can check in System Profiler if you decide to try it. If you do, I'd watch it carefully for awhile to make sure data/HD and basic functions are not being affected by it; I would perform a backup just prior to installing it, then not backup over it. That way, if anything goes amiss, you can just swap the RAM back to original (or purchase more) and restore from the "good" backup.
    Just some thoughts.
What would be better is to hear from someone who's actually done it with that RAM/those machines. Good luck to you.

  • The difference of sinad.vi between Sound & Vibration Toolkit and Singal Processing Toolkit

Hi, I'm confused with the the difference of sinad.vi between Sound & Vibration Toolkit and Singal Processing Toolkit.
When the input waveform is single tone, the output is almost the same, but raises much discrepancy while a certain distribution of the spectrum. Does the sinad.vi have some limitation to the input signal? Did I miss some setting of the terminals? Hope someone can give me some suggestion.

  • Difference of X.509 between wls8.1.2 and wls8.1.3,wls8.1.4

    Hi All
IHAC,customer want to use CA to implement certification.
    I use wls8.1.3 and wls8.1.4 to config two-way SSL.After completing all configuration,I modified startweblogic.cmd with adding
    -Dweblogic.security.SSL.enforceConstraints=off
I use a test application,a web application,to read the personal CA(client CA) out .But I find, the personal CA which read out by the application is deficient.
But if I use wls8.1.2,there is not this problem.
Whether there are some difference of SSL implementation between wls8.1.2 and wls8.1.3,wls8.1.4?If so,how about wls8.1.5?
    Thank you in advance.
    leeppy.

    Hi,
From my experience point of view, I can tell you that the client SSL libraries are broken since SP4.
A program will run perfectly on SP3 and fails on SP4, and 5. This is only a problem on the client side, not server side I think. Indeed, others libraries are working fine with WL8.1 SP5.
The client libraries send an invalid certification chain. Moreover, there is now a problem in the context when using web service. If you access a WSDL on HTTP and if endpoints are in HTTPS (2WAYSSL), then you have a fatal error on the client side. With SP3 is working fine. So unless you need some bug fixes that can be found in client lib of SP4 & 5, I can just advice you to stay with SP3 client libs, until BEA is releasing a patch. If you access both the wsdl and websercice on HTTPS, and that you do not enforce 2wayssl, you will see no more error, but all trasfers are done over oneway ssl. If you enforce 2waySSL, you will see a fatal error (incomplete client chain).

  • Difference in read/write between Windows Vs Linux

    Hi,
Can you please write, whether it is a bug or my ignorance. I thought, if a java program runs in Windows then it will run in other platform too, without editing any code. It proved me wrong. So is it a bug?
    Ref: Fedora linux version 5
    Kernel ver. 2.6.17
    jdk version - build 1.5.0_06-b05
I was working on a web service. The server side program connects to an application using socket program and sends back data to client.
While it was working very fine with Windows XP. When I moved the service to Linux (above said linux). The program stopped working. When I explored it, I found 3 things.
    1. I was using PrintWriter
    PrintWriter outputStream = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(socket.getOutputStream()), true);
to write into the socket. It works fine in Windows but not in Linux. ie. it sends different bytes in linux. Thus fails. When I changed it to BufferedOutputStream it works fine.
    BufferedOutputStream outputStream = new BufferedOutputStream (socket.getOutputStream());
    2. I was using BufferedReader to read
    BufferedReader inputStream = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()));
data from socket. It reads. But byte varies from expectation. The same program works very well with windows.
I used DataInputStream now. that works. but..
    DataInputStream inputStream = new DataInputStream(socket.getInputStream());
    3. While reading it was suppossed to read 2098 bytes, instead it reads 1448 bytes. It reads correctly in Windows, but not in the above said linux.
Is it a bug or there is a difference in reading and writing from socket between Windows and Linux ( even though it is same JVM).
    Thanks
    Sasi.

Thanks a lot for both of you.
I believe, \r\n Vs \n could not be the reason.
Because, I was sending binary data. Then you should not be using Writer at all!
    >
With regard to "utf-8", I thought of that but I did
not try to issue it in the function. Because, I was
trying to send and receive raw binary data. Then you should not be using Writer at all!
    >
Now, You may ask that why did you use PrintWriter.
Because, the data had unsigned byte values. Makes no difference - you should not be using Writer at all!
    So I
converted everything in to char array and send it.Will cause you problems at some point on some platform unless you use Base64 or HEX encoding.
especially, whereever unsigned byte was required, I
used (byte & Oxff). It worked very well with
Windows. So I just go ahead doing other things.I use byte & 0xff for dealing with unsigned valued but your use sounds dangerous.
    >
Here my question is, I assumed that if a program is
written in java and complied on jvm x, then
irrespective of the underlying OS, if the jvm is the
same x, then the program should run without error. Is
it wrong. If it is not wrong, then is it a jre bug?Your program will work if you have not used any implicit or explicit platform dependencies. For example, if in your program then you have hard codes a path as "C:\Program Files" then it will work on Windows (but then only if it has a C drive) but not on Unix.
Any program has to deal with a number of platform specific features and Java protects you from them as much as possible BUT you must deal with things like Locale, EOL and default character encoding.
No! Of course it is not a jre bug. You have coded to a specific platform and are then are suprised when it fails on other platforms.
    >
Did you see my third point of my original problem
statement. How to solve that.Since I don't have a view of your code I can't make an informed comment. I think I can guess what the problem is but I won't speculate.

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Any real difference between a 1.83 and 2.0 MacBook Pro?

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz model. It was on sale at my local computer store and I thought it was a good find, as it was brand new and was selling for £1099, a £300 saving on the 2.0 GHz model. Before I start using it, I just wanted to know if anyone knew if there was a real performance difference between the two and should I have paid the extra £300 to get the 2.0 GHz machine?
I only ask this, as I know that over time Apple sometimes tweak the machine to improve it and (after talking with someone at Apple), I've been told that there have been 5 or 6 changes to the inner workings (or revisions as they called them), and I wondered if this changed the performance or if it was just minor improvements regarding heat and noise and so on.
To finish, does anyone have any speculation as if this is a good time to buy a MacBook Pro with the introduction of the Core 2 Duo chips in the new iMacs?
    Many thanks.
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.83GHz Core Duo / 512MB / 80GB

So what you are saying is that the 170 MHZ difference between the 1.83 and the 2.0 is noticeable, but the 160 MHZ difference between the 2.0 and the 2.16 is not?
I thought we were passed the marketing gimmicks and the clock speed race, but I guess not.
Clock speed doesn't tell you anything about the performance of a CPU. Intel almost ran themselves into the ground by trying to pump up their clock speeds and feeding that tripe to the masses. AMD focused on a solid architecture that created a robust chip. As a result AMD took the lead in performance and stability.
Intel's greatest achievement to date has been the PIII Coppermine. So good was this architecture that they have gone back to it. The Centrinos are based off the Coppermines as are the dual cores.
The point of the story is that clock speed means nothing. Save your cash and put it to better use by getting a 7200 rpm drive or more RAM.

  • Difference in VI call between "recently used" mode and "open" mode

    Hi,
we encountered a "problem/difference" in VI calling modes in LabVIEW 8.5.1. Our test VI uses the "call library function node" in order to use a DLL. First we open this test VI with the "Select a File to Open" selection:
The test VI is able to open the selected DLL and the program works fine.
Secondly, we use the "recently used file" selection:
In that case the "call library function node" used in our test VI is not able to work with the selected DLL (in principle we get a problem which was already solved in the following thread: have to manually point to DLL each time LV Runs using Call Library Function Node).
Our question now: Is there a known difference how LabVIEW calls VIs (between different possible ways like open file, use the resently used file list, directly from the windows explorer directory, ...)? At least in this example, there is a difference regarding the "call library function node".
    Thanks for your input.
    Best regards,
    Helmut Köck

    Hi Helmut.
One thing you can do is to look in the LabVIEW.ini file and find the
section that gives the paths for the recent history display on the LV
getting started screen to make sure that they are correct and exactly
the same as the path that you are browsing to.
    The LabVIEW.ini file should be located at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW x.x
The section that contains the recent files history should look something like the following:
    RecentFiles.projectPathList=...
If that still doesn't work, maybe the following helps you. I found an old support case, where the the customer had a very similar problem.
The solution at the and was as followed:
    1. Have the people who wrote the dll put in a debug statement so they could
figure out what directory thinks it is in.
    2. Distilled the problem down to a single dll call in a vi. This call
initializes the device and creates a folder. However, it never creates the
data folder when it is opened via the shortcuts menu on the splash screen.
    Solution:
The problem was that when they called a VI from the Labview Splash
Screen using the short-cuts, the DLL they called in the VI (which was
programmed to control some hardware) did not talk to the hardware
properly. However, if they used the "Browse" button to find the same
file and execute it, then it would run properly and communicate.
After a lot of debugging, they traced the problem to a global variable
in the C++ program (that made the dll) that was not being properly
initialized when calling the DLL with the "shortcut" approach. I really do not know
why there is a difference between the two ways of starting the
VI that calls the DLL in Labview.
Once they redefined the variable in a different way they got it working,
    finally.
So they found a problem in their dll files, which were programmed in C. Maybe it is a good idea to debug the dll files and look for problems.
    Best Regards,
    Matteo

  • Differences in CIN management between Labview 5.0 and Labview 7.1 ?

    Hi,
I'm using a VI on a two photon microscope. It steers the laser beam in the sample (quite the same way as a TV scan, scanning a fast line on the X axis, then moving the line down) controlling two mirrors by the PCI-MIO-16E-4 Multifunctions card on traditional DAQ and at the same time it serves as the acquitision through a non-NI DSP Multifunction-board with on-board buffers and hight data throughput (70 Mb/s).
It is this part of the program which gives us strong headaches since we have upgraded to a new PC.
On the old machine we used Win2k and Labview 5.0; on the new machine we planned to use WinXP Pro and Labview 7.1.
The acquisition part of the VI uses 2 CINs. One is used to configure the FPGA on the Multifunctions board at initialization.
The second CIN reads he buffers received from the board and puts them into the shape of an image.
Now since we tried in WinXP Pro and Labview 7.1, we get some kind of weird bugs. Either there is a big problem concerning the synchronization of the mirros with the acquisition or with the image reconstruction. We have already tried :
    1. Putting everything back into the old machine to verify there has not been any damage to the boards. OK
    2. Using the boards in the new machine but with Win2000 and Labiew 5.0, just to be sure that there are no conflicting elements in the hardware. OK
As we wanted to check everything slowly but surely we then installed LV 7.1 on the new machine but still with Win2k. And here the problem appears !
First we thought the drivers for the Multifunctions board (ATEME Adr128C6x) were not compatible with WinXP Pro, so at this point we were quite surprised to notice the problem seems to be caused by the upgrade from LV 5.0 to 7.1 !
Now, finally my question is : Are there any major changes in how Labview handles CINs between LV5.0 and 7.1 ?
Can the problem be caused by the traditional DAQ

    So, no answer,...
Anyhow, we found the problem on our own. For anyone else experiencing this kind of behaviour :
The problem did not have anything to do with our CINs, nor with XP.
In fact, we have noticed that the Analog Ground the Digital Ground had to be connected. For some kind of reason in LabView 5.0 this did not introduce the problem. But in Labview 7.1 the sync, because of a somewhat unstable Ground, it caused complete disfunctionment. We don't know why but, hey, the problem is gone.

  • Can I share file between my Mac G4 and My new MacBook Pro

How can I share programs from my power mac G4 to my new MacBook Pro?

    Hi stefanfan,
    Welcome to the forum.
There are a number of ways, all of which require that you have File Sharing enabled in both Macs. File Sharing is enabled via the Sharing Preferences within System Preferences. When both Macs are networked all you have to do is open up a Finder window (just double click on your hd icon) and click on the Network icon located on the sidebar on the left of the window. The other Mac should appear, click connect and you're in.
If you have broadband and are connected via a router, does your router have more than one port? If it does, simply connect the other Mac to the port with an ethernet cable.
If you have a router with wireless capabilities (and both Macs have Airport cards installed) then you can share files wirelessly, again by enabling File Sharing.
If you do not have a router, you can connect both Macs together with a network (ethernet) cable and, once again, they will be able to see each other and you can open/transfer files from one to the other.

  • Limiting OS RAM usage

I am looking for some tips or best practices to get the most efficient use out of my RAM, particularly when it comes to the OS. I have a Latitude E6530 with 16GB of RAM. I started out with 4, then went to 8GB, then to 16. I run the same number of programs
in my daily routine, yet it seems that the more RAM I install, the more the OS gobbles it up. Since I run the same programs daily, I would not expect RAM usage to fluctuate very much and expect these apps to consume about the same daily. It seems like the
only thing that can be consuming more RAM is the OS. When I was at 4gb, I hovered around 70-80% RAM utilization, went to 8GB, same results, now at 16GB, and almost hitting that number again. I understand the OS needs a certain amount of RAM to operate, so
is there a way for me to limit what the OS takes so I can have more for programs that may need it? Will the OS "give some back" if needed to extra programs I may decide to run when I am at a high utilization mark? What I don't want to get into
though is a constant swap condition, especially with core OS components that need to stay in RAM. Whats the best way to go about this?

it will be better if you start from "general" about RAM management
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-better-performance=windows-7
actually its not only based on how much RAM that you are using, but how you prevent another program or HW attached (even external graphic card or LAN card) used windows service that maybe will increase RAM usage.
You can start using Windows performance tools to investigate
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749249.aspx
try to compare different condition like, a few program running during start up (clecan boot), disable security software, no other 3rd party HW attached, no internet connection, upgrade latest driver for all HW or else
my opinion, Windows will only using RAM that needed to run start up, increasing RAM usage for windows process depend on the software running and HW attached
for more details and complicated process :) , you can read and implement this with your development environment

  • Kernel_task high RAM usage

    Hi everybody,
I have same problem on both iMacs i use (iMac9,1 and iMac10,1). Both updated from Maveriks to Yosemite some months ago and since last 2 weeks kernel_task "eat" to much RAM.
I tried to solve with all kind of resets, move files from ACPI_SMC _PlatformPlugin.kext, hardware test, reinstall and restore from time machine and finaly also with a complete clean reinstall (without TM restore!). But kernel_task run with too much RAM usage.
I feel frustrated and I seem to be back like Windows users!
So, i think problem could be associated to some software upgrade (DropBox? Skype? Osx update? don't know). Anyone knows if there are usefull debugs system log for kernel_task usage?

On this report kernel_task ram is not displayed but you can see it on task manager image
    Any help is apreciated.
    Thank you!

There is nothing wrong with your kernel_task memory usage.  It is consistent with the amount of RAM you have installed.
The kernel_task manages virtual memory page tables.  The more RAM the the more table space consumed.  800MB memory usage for kernel_task is in line with having 8GB of RAM in your Mac.
My 16GB Macbook Pro kernel_task has 1.15GB of memory.  People with 32GB Macs, have more like 1.5GB.  And Macs with 4GB have something around 500MB more or less.
Tangent observation.  Unless you have a Paid LogMeIn account, the free version has been discontinued, and you should most likely remove the LogMeIn components via the LogMeIn uninstaller.  Your use of TeamViewer.com is a good substitute for the free LogMeIn.
You system has been up for just 7 and a half hours
        OS X 10.10.2 (14C109) - Time since boot: 7:21:25
    But you have
        117.96 GB    Page-ins
That averages out to 4.6MB per second.
Chances are you could either benefit from not running as many concurrent things (maybe remove the large number of kernel extensions, launch daemons, launch agents you have installed), maybe only run VirtualBox when you really need to run Windows (assuming it is Windows, but I guess it could be Linux or Solaris X86), or have fewer tabs open in your web browser, or run fewer Apps, especially the big memory hungry kind)
Or maybe you just need more RAM if you must have all these things installed and running all the time.
Just a thought.  But it is not kernel_task that is causing problems.  That is normal.

  • Any rendering differences between Safari 1.3 and 2.0?

Can anyone point me to information about what differences, if any, exist between Safari 1.3 and 2.0? I am only interested in differences in rendering (HTML/CSS/JavaScript, i.e. WebKit), not in things like RSS feed support.
To put it another way, do Safari 1.3.1 and 2.0.1 have the same version of WebKit?
I do not have Panther installed on any of my Macs, so I cannot easily investigate this.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Kernel Task RAM Usage

I'm just wondering what's up with the RAM usage on my macbook. Right when I start up 500MB of RAM is being used (wired and active), 100MB of it being the kernel task. After a typical session of use, I close all programs and find that the RAM usage is about 800MB and the kernel task is using 250MB. Just wondering why the kernel task's RAM usage creeps up like that and doesn't go back down. It's just a little perplexing to have the same exact programs running and be down 300MB of free RAM.

I was having the same problem and looked into it, this may help:
