Difference in sound from A2Z and DVD home equipment

Hi,
Does anybody tell how different in sound from Audigy 2ZS and home theater system. What i mean by this is the output system is the same (Home theater speakers, surround receiver). The only difference is signal source, either from sound Blaster A 2ZS or from home DVD player.
As far as i understand, the A 2ZS wont maximize its utilities if we select the SPDIF pass through and the signal will be sent directly to the external decoder. Am i correct to say this? and if so, the sound quality is totally subject to the external decoder and speakers systems. But i have read couple audiophile forums, it said that the sound varies according to CD/DVD player, how come we have this.
To conclude, any strenghs of A2ZS over home CD/DVD player interms of sound quality?

Well sound in this context is made up of 3 componemts: source, amp and speakers. The 3 things to watch are THD (total harmonic distortion), S/N (signal to noise ratio) and Frequency Responce.
For a good system you need <0.0% THD, S/N >20 Db and frequency responce at least as wide as 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
There is a difference between listening to music, which is best in stereo, and home theatre, which is designed for spacial effects rather than reproducing high quality music.
To address your question directly it is not possible to answer because you wish to compare a disc player with what in this instance may be described as a switch/router.
In relation to sound between the Audigy 2 ZS and my home theatre system there is a world of difference even though they are interconnected. That may be because of a 25 fold difference in cost though.
Home theatre should include video switching as well, normally incorporated in the amp and called an AV amp. Spend money on a good one of these and you won;t go wrong. Look for 6 powered channels with a minimum power of 30 RMS per channel. In stereo mode the 2 channel amps should be class A. In 5. mode you will not get the above specs unless you are intent on spending serious money.

I am working on PO 7.4. I want to test a payload from "Configuration and Monitoring Home". However, in the "Testing" tab, the option to test the payload is not available. Is this option not available in PO 7.4? Only cache connectivity test exists. I have attached a screenshot for reference.

                                   --> Message Monitor
                                              --> Select the message
                                                        --> open message ( Make sure pop-ups are allowed).

My Iphone 4s has no sound from speakers and no text tones.

There is a red tag in the dock indicating water contact.
I cannot work out how this is. I have never used the phone in the rain and if i did i would expect the red tag to be in the headphone port.
I carry my phone at all times in my jacket pocket.
I never use the phone to listen to music in bathroom or shower.
It has never been near spills or dipped into my cup of morning coffee.
So.....how do I prove this to Apple and get a replacement??? Everything else works, just no sound from music and texts etc.
Done a restore and doesnt work.

Sorry about your situation. We do shell out some money for this phone (some more than others) but at the end of the day we are humans and these phones are also made by workers that cannot even afford and iPhone. Don't blame Apple (blame Foxconn?).
I normally use the vibrate with the Bluetooth headset and send the audio through the Bluetooth speaker, so this is not a big issue for me. However if your settings are correct they can verify this issue at the store immediately but not sure about the turn around but the Apple genius should have some estimate.
Hope the the Bluetooth can help.

Difference in sounds from Roland XP 80 and Roland JV 80.

ok - i know this is not a Logic topic, so please excuse me.
I have a XP 80 and im not quite satisfied with the sounds for live peformance.
I want to have nice piano, rhodes and horns.
A friend of mine told me that one of the best horn sounds would come from a JV 80/90 (in dual or layer mode)
Do i get better horn/brass sounds from JV 80/90 than the ones from XP 80, and what about the piano and rhodes ?
Maybe i need to beef up the XP 80 with a rom card ?
any opinion would be welcome.

The JV80 sound engine is far inferior to the XP sound engine.
After the JV80 came the 1080, which had a much improved sound engine, which was used for a while until the XV range came along with as significantly better than the 1080 sound engine.
So, although your friend might like some sounds in the JV80, it's a far far inferior product than your XP, and if you aren't happy with your XP sounds, you certainly won't be any happier jumping backwards two generations.
Take a look at the SRX boards which I'm sure the XP80 can use, the piano is decent.
If you want any more realism than that, then you either need to be looking a dedicated samplers and libraries, or perhaps having a play with some current generation romplers like to Yamaha Motif series, Korg's Triton or Oasys, which all feature decent sounds, by they have different characters, so you really need to find something you like...

No sound from Front and Rear Center Speakers

Hi all,
I have a Creative 6.1 6700 speaker set + Creative Sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
Recently I have noticed that I am not getting any sound from my Front and Rear center speakers. The sound is being diverted to the sub woofer. Wehn i run checks the sound comes from the sub woofer rather then the speaker. I have checked all connection and checked all wiring. All Speaker are working fine and none is dead.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and then application but still no good. I am unable to figure out why this might be happening. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also any idea why does the creative driver keep on crashing. It is one of the most unstable driver that I have seen. I have the latest driver and usually keep it up to date but still it does keeps on giving problems regularly.
I have to say that till now the creative product has been a headache for me but I would have to make do with what I have. So all help needed here really.

Inpire P5800 : No sound from center and rear speakers

I have just bought the Inspire P5800 speakers system (5.1) and only the two front speakers and the buffer produce sound. The problem may come from the fact I have an single output audio card (RealTek AC'97). Is there anything to do to have the sound coming out from the 5 speakers (expect buying a 5.1 audio card) ? I read my audio files with winamp and WMP.

Capture Sound from Soundcard AND Mic

Hi,
My idea is to make an application to record songs on the fly.
That is a user can play a song from my library and with his mic to
sing along with the song. Now i want to capture those two signals
(the sound from the player and the sound from the mic and record it
with FMS to one .flv file.
The way to capture the mic's sound i know, what i don't know
is how to capture the sound produced by the player.
Is there any way to record the souncards output through flash
or do i have to do some sort of stream that specific sound to fms.

On windows, you can use the sound card's mixer to set the
audio source. In the recording view of the mixer, select the
channels you want to record, or choose the "stereo mix".
Unfortunately, this can't be done programatically through
actionscript .
I don't know if it can be done on a Mac, as there isn't a
sound card to speak of.

I'm not a fan of "hiding" stuff from users so the not appearing in the menu part isn't a biggie for me. If you do need to give background auths for something but don't want it to appear in a menu then this will let you do it without adding manual auths or changing standard object values
Where I find it useful is that it allows you to assign & maintain indicators for stuff like Function Modules and Services. No real business advantage other than it makes your security implementation cleaner.

Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
So to summarize:
1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
Any clues?

Strange difference in prints from Photoshop and InDesign

Recently I upgraded to CS5 but at the same time upgraded my good old Power Mac G5 to a 27" iMac i7.
I also traded my Epson 7600 for an Epson 9800. So obviously many things changed at the same time.
Now I created a new profile for my printer paper and noticed the folowing strange thing:
When printing from photoshop the prints are consistently way too dark.
When printing from InDesign the same photo it is perfectly as it should be and looks on screen.
Then I checked printing from Preview and again way too dark, same as in Photoshop
I applied the same printerprofile to all printjobs
During the profiling I also printed the testpage from the Datacolor Spyder 3 software, which was perfect
printing the same testpage from Photoshop: way too dark.
I don't have a clue to where things are going wrong.
Is it a bug in Photoshop,but why then also in Preview?
is it the way the printerdriver handles things? But then why not in InDesign?
Anyone any ideas?

Have you gone into the "Print Settings" dialog and turned off color matching in the Epson portion of the settings?
Are you running the most recent version of the driver? There is a combination updater to version 7.0 available as the first result at:

Poor video playback from movies and DVD in Quicktime and DVD player

Hello.
I have just taken delivery of a smashing Intel iMac C2D 20".
I appear to be having problems playing back video and DVD. let me explain:
When entering full screen on a DVD, the picture is very blocky (pixilated). This happens on all DVD discs I have used.
The same happens if I playback a MPEG or AVI, and also when I use Eye TV to playback TV.
I have run the Apple Hardware test, and it returned no faults.
The Video Card is the ATI Radeon X1600 with 256mb
I am sure that there is a problem because I have just compared playback using my old G5 iMac and G4 Powerbook using the same media files and DVD's and they playback fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions (other than calling Tech Support at this stage as I will blow a fuse after being on the phone for 1.5 hours getting nowhere, and with agents not knowing which keypresses to initiate stuff - sorry - Rant over - I just want to get this resolved)
As a side note: I have just installed Windoze XP on a partition, and the playback of DVD and MPEGS are fine - so it leads me to think maybe its software??
Not one to let things get the better of me - I installed Real Player and VLC.
BOTH of these play back the media correctly.
So I guess it is Software for sure, and I guess its Quicktime. Does Quicktime run DVD Player as well?
I did a roll back to a previous version of Quicktime, and it screwed up the mac. It would book, but would not load the Finder.
So I archived and reinstalled, and I had 7.1.2 QT, and the problem was still there. So up again to 7.1.3 and problem still persists.
I have come to the conclusion that this is to do with Quicktime on a C2D processor iMac.
Can anyone shed any light on this or suggest a solution?

10.4.8 Combo update resolved issue

No Sound from QT and 10.5.1

If I start my Mac and try to watch a .mov file, there is no sound.
However, if I open a web page, such as YouTube, and watch a video, there is sound.
Then, if I restart QuickTime and watch the first .mov file, there is sound.
Anyone have issues with sound not working.

I am trying to us QT to burn DVD's of the video's from the Camcorder.The first questions is whether you are attempting to burn standalone DVD Player DVDs or archival file DVDs.
a. If the former and no editing is required then you might try application like Toast or iVCD. QT Pro and applications which access QT Pro (even with the QT MPEG-2 component) will not normally preserve audio data when playing and/or converting MPEG "muxed" file formats.
b. If the former and editing is required, then use an MPEG based application like MPEG StreamClip (free but requires the Apple QT MPEG-2 component which you already have) to convert your "muxed" files to DV compressed files with audio preserved for editing at the frame level in applications like iMovie, FCE, FCP, etc. Finished projects can then be burned in the normal manner using iVCD, Toast, iDVD, DVDSP, etc.

Sound from speakers and headphones alike are glitchy

Hey I have an Enyv ultrabook 4 core i5 and whenever i play music or watch something the sound is always glitchy. Anyone out there who can help?

I have same exact problem, Did u contact to HP support? wat did they say?
Even HP support couldn't help me.... they asked me to troubleshoot in all ways and asked me to format but still i have that problem. They couldn't even replace or exchange my product(ENVY 4 Touchsmart 1215dx).
Possible reasons why this happen:
1. Hard drive isn't fast enough.
2. Audio drivers not properly installed.
3.VIA Chipset issue.
4.Soundcard problem.
For me 1 & 2 are fine, so problem is between 3or 4 may be both.
Try to check where problem exsits from above 4 points

Sound from headphones and analog line output?

Is there a way to get sound our of the Mac Pro from the analog line output and the headphones at the same time?

Thank you Malcolm it works well. The only thing I found out is when doing it this way Audio Hijack Pro has to be in the record mode and on pause or files of what you are listening to will be created, eating up hard drive space.
But it works!

Can I suggest using something that will allow audio capture from the external mic. to start with. Then you will have a video with audio in sync, in a format that you can re encode into whatever format you wish.
But, if you must do that. Dump the video from the handycam file, then put the mics audio file with it. ffmpeg -i video ffmpeg -i audio into whatever container and codecs that you want. You may have to adjust audio-video sync
ffmpeg -i audio -itsoffset 0.1 -i video
Search this forum and the web. There are hundreds of ffmpeg examples. And the ffmpeg man

ffmpeg will do just about anything, but is a little daunting. Ask specific questions and you'll get specific answers. Or find a front end for it. I never use them.
